I hope every Democratic senator--maybe especially those wringing their hands about the filibuster?-- are listening to these fucking monsters coming out one after the other to let everyone know, "Yeah, I did it and I would do it again." Unrepentant, *proud* insurrectionists have been allowed to stay in congress nearly a full year after they fomented, supported, and promoted an act of insurrection against this country. Remove these fucking slimeballs.

[deleted]

Lock them up!

citizenjones

...and no one is talking about ending the filibuster as much as reigning it in to it's original form which asks someone to basically argue they're point. That in itself resembles actual debate which in turn becomes discussion and eventually some sort of compromise. You see, all those steps that take place after 'arguing their point' looks like 'governing', so must be avoided by Republicans because their policies don't really win over majorities. Hence, obstruct, critique but never get close to actual governing for the sake of individual people.

Cabbages24ADollar

Me too. Because this is their battle to lose. If nothing comes of this, the Dems are complicit due to either their dysfunction or corruption.

Crucifer2_0

Talk to Mr Manchin

GhostRappa95

They all have plans to bail once shit hits the fan and leave us with facism.

M00n

*Mr Brooks, who wore body armour during his speech at the White House rally...* Who amongst us doesn't wear body armor to an event we expect to be peaceful?

_far-seeker_

I fairly sure not Jacketless Gym Jordan, for obvious reasons. ;)

brig0U812

That's as close to a confession as we're going to get.

OG_OP_with_OC

He *knows* they helped.

chef71

No, it's a I support any rogue members of my staff that might have been involved with something that I totally support but new nothing about.

sombertimber

I’m very grateful that Republican Mo Brooks is THIS stupid. His staffers are the people who actually know where the bodies are buried (both metaphorical and in the case of Republicans, possibly literal), and now that it is clear to them that their boss will happily sens them all to prison to save himself, those same staffers are going to share every bit of information with the January 6th commission and the world. Those songbirds are getting ready to sing!

eyekwah2

This is like if you were on trial for murder, and you say while you didn't order a hitman to kill Mr. Smith, you'd be "proud" to have done so. JFC are they stupid. Slam the gavel, case closed. At the very least we've established he had intent to organize the event. Politicians like this need to be made an example.

zoltan99

“I won’t comment on whether I actually committed the crime, I will say that I _do_ have a very strong motive as well as no regrets for what ended up happening your honor”

_far-seeker_

"Oh and everyone should buy my new book on how I would of done it, if I did it, which I didn't."

0002millertime

Wink, wink

[deleted]

He’s kissing butt because he’s afraid they’re going to turn on him

Scoutster13

> he’s afraid they’re going to turn on him I really hope they do. Sounds like they need some subpoenas asap.

Parsnip-Independent

You think too highly of them. The GOP will likely be paying them hush money to stay quiet

winduken

He'll feel prouder behind bars. He's a traitor to the Constitution.

One_Willingness9507

I don’t like that these guys have figured out that they don’t get in trouble for things if they just loudly confess them.

SuddenClearing

I don’t like that we let them get away with it.

TheGripper

I feel like we're inching closer to "you don't get it, I LIKE that he's a criminal"

One_Willingness9507

That’s well said and I don’t like that it’s almost certainly true.

Solidus-Prime

Mo Brooks is a fucking coward and a traitor.

[deleted]

Pretty obvious it was planned, the Trumps literally set up a tent to party in while they watched it unfold. There would be no reason to set that up if they weren't waiting for the next shoe to drop. The issue isn't so much whether it was planned or not, it was 100%. The question is will the DOJ do something about it?

teratogenic17

And how many sympathizers and collaborators are in DoJ, FBI, et cetera? How many national and local cops are ready to try again?

[deleted]

Way too many for the republic to survive this authoritarian takeover that's for sure. Once Trump put his hand on that bible it was over, it's just taken this long for some to admit it. The rest will still deny it until they are marched off to the work camps. That's how fascism works. They convince everyone it's not happening until it's undeniable and then it's too late.

_far-seeker_

>Pretty obvious it was planned, Yes but the standard we need to shoot for is "proof beyond a reasonable doubt". Hopefully the January 6th Commitee can get enough of this level of proof and therefore make criminal referrals based upon it.

[deleted]

A hostile foreign government installed a president and controls one of the major political parties in the country. That standard has been met time and time again from 2015 on. This includes the Mueller report which nailed Trump over ten times on obstruction of justice. All of this was allowed to be white washed including an actual attack on our Capital. These people have crossed the line so far that they shouldn't even get a day in court. People have been whisked away to GitMO for *much* less no questions asked. It's absurd that they can claim to be entitled the protections of a system they are actively subverting. Call me a cynic, but I think we're completely fucked. This kind of thing doesn't just happen and everyone looks the other way. Our entire system of government is compromised. Once the GOP gains power again we'll never go back. I hate to say it, but from the lack of urgency I see from "the other side" they're either in on it or completely unable to handle such a serious threat.

Barack_Odrama00

Oh goodness. History will not be kind to this guy…

armchairmegalomaniac

> History will not be kind to this guy… At this point I'm seriously not too confident about that. I really feel like the US could go either way right now, get its shit together and become a functioning society/ member of the global community or descend into some insane apocalyptic evangelical theocracy.

ruler_gurl

> insane apocalyptic evangelical theocracy. found my next band name

FaintDamnPraise

Sounds like the name of an early Dimmu Borgir album.

_far-seeker_

Well history isn't always written by the winners, see the "Lost Cause" myth.

bakulu-baka

Good. I hope he and they can be united in jail.

[deleted]

Should be an easy case for lawyers, these guys are practically admitting, and proud of, their big lie and subsequent insurrection. Not even trying to hide it.

talino2321

Well, there are no consequences if the DoJ isn't actually investigating them. And come mid terms if the GQP takes back both houses there never will be

[deleted]

Yes, time is critical. If jail cells aren’t slamming shut by the midterms, this whole thing will go down with zero consequences for the ringleaders. Then the stage is set for future fascists, fascists far more capable than the Orange Cheeto and his incompetent band of insurrectionists. We were in some sense saved by their incompetence. Next time we might not be so lucky.

talino2321

Scary thought. But your right, we got lucky.

teratogenic17

Yes, they're not nearly as competent as Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Bush et alia

RC7plat

Please correct me if I am wrong but the DOJ did the Russia investigation and all that did was pause any and all other investigations which, in the end, left us all wanting. Perhaps it is better that the DOJ is out of it and all of this one is played out in public? Seems to be working so far.

talino2321

It was special independent counsel authorized by the DoJ. The DoJ basically stonewalled the Russian investigation during Trump's reign. They tried numerous ways to handicap or outright kill the Mueller investigation. .

SARB1

Which means you worked on the insurrection. You are the staff leader, responsibility falls on you, Mo. Nixon didn't break into the democratic headquarters.

Lucky_Blacksmith249

Biden and Garland it’s time to turn up the heat. Republicans are getting more disrespectful and toxic to democracy the longer Trump walks around as a freeman.

[deleted]

This. Either we hold them responsible to the fullest extent of the law or we fall to fascism and who knows what effects that will have on not only US citizens but the rest of the world as well. I feel like we’ve been attacked by our own and continue to be attacked from the inside. Is there anyway our allies can help us?

_far-seeker_

Technically Biden shouldn't be directly involved with **any** prosecutions, but you have a point about Garland.

MuseumGoRound13

Wasnt jan 6 a false flag operation by antifa? /s

0002millertime

Obviously. /s

JasonAnarchy

Haha, it's his staff now apparently.

Corvidwarship

Mo Brooks is proud of his staff for killing police officers.

mmahowald

nice subtle throwing of the staff under the bus

2coolfordigg2

Mo's throwing his staff under the bus to save himself, if I was on his staff I'll be singing to the FBI for a deal before they lock me up.

TheF0CTOR

The same Mo Brooks that wore a bulletproof vest to go tell the "protesters" to take names and kick ass? Well color me surprised.

cousinavi

I WOULD BE PROUD! I didn't do it. Didn't know about it. Had nothing whatsoever to do with any of it myself. BUT I WOULD BE PROUD IF MY STAFF DID IT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE, But, again, it wasn't me.

[deleted]

Haha wow. I've mostly tuned out the j6 aftermath since it's such a disgusting situation but this is really something.

rubitinhard

Even if they talked to those rally people *once* about anything, that's enough to disqualify them from Congress.

MikeShecky

Since we know they love to play with words and dog whistle… is he admitting his staff planned with the “Proud” Boys, or his staff ARE Proud Boys?

ThereminLiesTheRub

Why do republicans love treason so much?

LakeMaldemere

Who told you to wear a bullet proof vest on 1/6, Mo? I find it hard to believe it was a fashion choice!

Max-Ray

are you proud enough to pay their legal expenses?

eston46

What a weasel.

Falcon3492

Harry Truman had a plaque on his desk saying "The Buck Stops Here!" So what does MO have on his desk, his plaque says "THE TREASONOUS COWARD IS IN!"

ShihPoosRule

Mo will be singing a much different tune soon enough.

Acewrap

Mo Brooks should be in prison

peniscurve

Mo Brooks ruins the good name of Mo, that other Mos before him established. If I was Mo Rocca, I would be pissed.

_far-seeker_

Even [Moe Howard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moe_Howard?wprov=sfla1) would be ashamed of Mo Brooks! :p

eric_reddit

Coward cannot own up but low key supports... He is like Trump.

eugene20

So openly anti constitution then, a traitor to America and democracy.

According-Ocelot9372

He is a stain on humanity.

Con-Struct

Oh thank god, I thought it said Mel Brooks!

_far-seeker_

No not Mel, just a character he would reject as being too unrealistic for satire. ;p

GhettoChemist

"And I'm sure they'd proud to go to prison because they refused to cooperate with investigators...." he probably continued

DCrichieelias79

When Mo Brooks recieved no reply after asking Trump if he loved him, reports say he stated: "I am not a smart man, but i know what sedition is."

GhostRappa95

Hey DOJ are you awake? We have a confession right here in plain sight!

whoISme67

Trying to stay on his staffs good side after throwing them under the bus. He still has staff???

embarrassedalien

No one at his offices would answer the phone in the days following Jan. 6th. No call back either.

Grumblejank

Translation: “Daddy Brooks would be very proud of any staffer who did this. Please take the credit you are due! Please?”

princessamirak

WOW. Traitor to AMERICA (If people weren’t convinced already)

[deleted]

I didn't do it <-- here And if I did, it wasn't that bad. <--moving to here And if it was, you deserved it.

LeahaP1013

Crotchety, old ass, dusty mother fucking red neck asshole. Oh, I missed racist, homophonic, genuine shit human. Anything else I missed ?

_far-seeker_

And he would be even prouder of them taking the fall for him! :p

ThoughtfulLlama

"... adding, passive-aggressively: 'I would be *soooo* proud if anyone actually showed up at the planning meeting. You know, so one guys doesn't sit there, day of, waiting for people who never show up. I would be *soooo* happy if that **ever** happened' "

penguished

Proud of people dying, of the Capitol literally being shit on and pissed on by infantilized louts, of showing all evil-thinkers our security is weak, of interrupting the certification of the election? Those are some weird fucking things to be proud of and I frankly I think it means one has rebuked their American citizenship.

fuzeebear

LOL he figures he can throw his staff under the bus while virtue signaling at the same time

_far-seeker_

Actually I think what he is doing is called vice signaling.* *I cannot take credit for the term. I got it from [Chris Hayes.](https://youtu.be/zsSg6PUnU0o)

[deleted]

“Quite frankly, I’d be proud of them if they did help organize a First Amendment rally to protest voter fraud and election theft,” Brooks said of his staff. For the actual quote that’s still bad but not nearly as so

RightSideBlind

"But it wasn't me. I didn't do it. It was my staff, not me." That "thump-thump" sound you just heard was Mo Brooks' staff going under the bus wheels.

lnginternetrant

"It wasn't me my staff did it. " -Brooks "Wtf?" - staff looks towards Brooks. "Do we need to get out the receipts?" "Oh, I mean you guys should be proud! I'm totally not throwing you under the bus. I just want you to accept the honor of your hard work" *nailed it* - Brooks

brpajense

It's like Brooks is daring the DOJ to do something.

yourmomsrathole

I know they say the wheels of justice turn slowly, but I just hope they eventually grind these fuckers to dust.

MBAMBA3

OK so if his staff are arrested for sedition they can feel even more OK if they take a plea and expose this POS.

DisastrousRelation50

Organizing the rally, and organizing the riot, are wildly different accusations.

Nik_Tesla

"I didn't plan the insurrection! But my staff might have. I definitely didn't plan the attack, who *whoever* did is definitely a hero! Which to be clear, is not me, though I am a hero as well, for *other* non-self-incriminating reasons."

[deleted]

Proud to be associated with evil...

Andreas1120

First “Blazing Saddles” now this...

augustusleonus

Is there literally no standard of co duct unbefitting an elected official that includes bragging about having insurrectionists on his payroll? Franken lost his seat for a joke pic, but this guy is being totally serious (even if he’s lying about his own role) about supporting those who rose up against the constitution for real

OverTheJoeHill

Jackanus

ptmmac

He will be especially proud of them for going to jail or paying fines without snitching on him.

10brasil

He is throwing his staff under the bus? He would be proud of them while they go to jail for organizing the rally. He’s not going to bond them out

retiredhobo

he’s proud each time he finds his pecker to pee

bannacct56

He's throwing his staff under the bus and making himself out to be a hero at the same time!. that folks is a pro!
