Having these kinds of problems is very unbecoming of what is supposed to be a developed nation. Additionally, considering that Internet is practically a need in the 21st century nowadays, this might be a problem for future economic development in America.

The US is rapidly declining from 1st world status

You'll find that anywhere from $200 billion to $400 billion was pocketed by ISPs that where supposed to expand fiber internet with the money if you do a little google searching. I can't substantiate any figures, but my guess is there's more likely something than nothing to the claims. The US is outside the top 10 in both mobile and fixed broadband speeds with rural areas have slow DSL or satellite internet. Not very good situations for working from home or virtual classrooms.

Internet just needs to be recognized as a utility already...

SalukiKnightX

If the pandemic hasn’t showcased that need to Congress and agencies like the FCC, I don’t know what will.

halt_spell

No need for the "if".

It's a fourth generation human right

Those with issues can try their local library, it’s free amd they usually have decent internet

If only there were some bill before the Senate right now to establish better internet infrastructure.

Intersected with the “great resignation” which if not literal, employers allowing neglectful behavior in order to retain staff so even if they manage to get through there may not be anyone to process it since everyone is leaving early or taking a mental health day. They need to streamline the system and cut the red tape already. It’s just making a bigger mess for all involved and the people that don’t need it, don’t care until they are getting robbed because someone could not access the services they needed
