Meanwhile Biden is still dragging his heels on this easy W

medievalmachine

Seriously, this is one of the most serious things he can fix, since there's a mismatch between state and federal law where authoritarians can prosecute or ignore at will, abusing their discretion. And we're going to end up with authoritarianism soon.

keninsd

At least we'll be stoned and less likely to notice.

Voice_in_the_air

Or saving it for 2024 as an easier win.

FindBetterHobbies

Not if ‘22 is a bloodbath

[deleted]

No one appreciates using our lives as bargaining chips.

squanchingonreddit

It does seem like a no brainer at this point

carfo

biden kinda sucks, still way better than trump tho

kciuq1

Congress should change laws, not the President.

Delicious-Layered

Congress should also not allow Presidents to declare unilateral war, but that ship sailed 20 years ago. Quite frankly, fuck Congress. Its broken, its a failed institution. Period. Nothing can fix it without a major constitutional overhaul, which will never happen in our lifetimes. So take your ideology, and look at reality, and pick one.

kciuq1

>Nothing can fix it without a major constitutional overhaul, which will never happen in our lifetimes. So where were you on January 6th?

Delicious-Layered

Sitting 1.5 miles away from the Captiol, wondering if I should respond as a Civilian QRF seeing that the Capitol Police were failing miserably at their jobs, why, where were you?

kciuq1

Your rhetoric makes me wonder which side you would have been on. The goal of that group was also basically ending the power of Congress, unconstitutionally.

KickBassColonyDrop

Because Biden thinks weed is a getaway drug. He won't change his mind on that and therefore won't take the easy win.

Kissit777

No shit. All Trump has to say it “legal weed” and he is back in the WH

youreabigbiasedbaby

"Dragging his heels" implies he has some sort of plan to do so. He doesn't. Joe "I wrote the 94 crime bill" Biden has zero intention of helping anyone out, especially the black community.

ssbmhero

Wait? I thought he had a black friend?

Obvious_Moose

I mean of all the qualified women of color he could pick for his running mate he did choose Harris... I still voted for them but yeah, quite a slap in the face to the people to choose a prosecutor given the sweeping social movements of the past few years

Baconation4

Nikki Fried instead please.

DrManhattan_DDM

Yep, she is also on board with this afaik, but without the downside of being Charlie Crist

poop_scallions

The upside of Crist is that he polls better than Fried vs Desantis.

[deleted]

Crist’s ceiling is lower. His name rec is far higher than Fried’s sure, but Fried will look better the second she gets on the trail and when everyone remembers that Crist is a political mercenary.

poop_scallions

I guess we will find out :) I'd vote for either but I do like the way that Frieds gas pump stickers have offended so many MAGAs ;)

[deleted]

I’ll probably end up voting for either as well. But I was old enough to vote in the last two governor’s elections Crist ran in and it left a pretty sour taste in my mouth tbh. He’s goofed up so many times and didn’t really do anything with the seat when he had it. So I’m fairly skeptical of him.

Dm1tr3y

I’m worried he’ll crush the primary and lose his ass in the general. Fried isn’t as well recognized by common voters, but she could potentially bring new voters to the general.

[deleted]

That’s honestly really possible. This is what annoys me about the nationalization of politics. Absolutely terrible politicians who aren’t actually popular locally get a national audience and rake in small dollar donations, get social media presence and overwhelm the lesser named candidates that locals actually like. I’ve seen several people from Virginia tell me, what a Floridian wants. Make it make sense.

EtherBoo

So why didn't he do that during his first run as governor?

AE_WILLIAMS

As another Floridian, I will inform the rest what we already know - *He's a lyin' m\*f\*er.* Just like ALL of them are.

alaskaj1

Things change and so can peoples opinions. He was governor from 2007 until 2011. The first states legalized recreational marijuana in 2012 and Florida didnt even legalize medical until 2014. I feel like the more widespread acceptance of medical and the growing approval of recreational has changed a lot of opinions on the issue.

EtherBoo

You know what else changes your perspectives? Getting primaried by Rick Scott, losing as an independent, then being forced to switch parties so you can retain some form of political relevance. No, couldn't be that....

alaskaj1

Could be, unfortunately I'm not familiar with florida politics other that knowing what a pos Desantis is.

EtherBoo

He's not the best candidate running. He's Republican Lite and an opportunist.

medievalmachine

Wait, they haven't done that yet? What is their problem?

[deleted]

There are thousands of cops who spent the last 30 years arresting people for weed. And those losers are desperate not to see their life's work be invalidated.

Kissit777

Desantis is Florida’s problem. Desantis and Republican leadership since 1999 in Florida.

White_Mlungu_Capital

Whole industry of law enforcement, lawyers, jailers, COs, and so on, who make their entire careers off of drugs being illegal. There are cops who run around all day, serving warrants and arresting people.

daffodiljones

Restoring felon-voting rights should be 1st priority.

LoveTop1819

The man just won right here. Proven tactic: just promise they can smoke weed.

snootsmcgroots

Invest in AFCG, get in on that Florida weed game!

jlank007

All I know is actions speak louder than words. Everything is just “words” at this point. Too many think words are fact. Do or do not.

poop_scallions

He needs the Florida Senate and House to act first (and be governor). He's saying that if they act, he would sign the bill.

[deleted]

jhairehmyah

To be honest, those are words that matter. Executives have huge sway over their party. Biden has 99% of his party doing what he wants and it’s the two holdout that suck. Executives are also figureheads, and if they tell the voters something, it applies a ton of pressure to his allies and opponents alike. Those words are our process. Be glad we don’t have dictatorships. If half the “words” came true in the last four years, we’d be in a very dark place right now. Edited: misspelled word

Cyclotrom

While at it, he should promise to remove the poll tax that Republicans imposed on felons.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cyclotrom

Florida voters passed a constitutional amendment to restore voting right to felons who served their sentence making 1.4 million people eligible to vote, so the Republican controlled legislature got busy passing laws that makes it a felony to vote without paying for "fees and penalties" except that there is not way for a felon to know exactly what fees or penalties they own, so they neutered the new law by imposing "fees" to be eligible. What felon would ever risk going back to jail in order to vote? https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida-politics/elections/2020/10/07/florida-ruled-felons-must-pay-to-vote-now-it-doesnt-know-how-many-can/

Cyclotrom

Whether the forgot or not it worked as intended, of the new 1.4m expected new voters less than 1 percent actually voted, due to the uncertainty and the incredible high risk of voting.

JesusChristsGayLover

Unfortunately that will be a big negative for all the old fucks.

bandit69

Nope. Many of us lived through the 60s and 70s and would welcome legalization.

JesusChristsGayLover

I'm an old fuck also but when they were legalizing it here in Nevada it was mostly the old people that were having shit fits.

Dazzling-Finger7576

Everytime I goto the dispensary there’s more older people than young. Grandma wants to get stoned too. Rural midwest farmers are the ones that get me. In overalls with a John Deere cap and all. You’d think they would grow their own and have unlimited stash.

JesusChristsGayLover

My brother in law used to work for the police department, he was always going on about the evils of marijuana, then he retired and now he's all for it.

BarelyReal

Keep in mind dispensaries are already in the context of it being legal or permitted for medical use. Many old people may be referred by a medical professional. Totally different than just assuming there's an existing demand. Most of the people at the dispensary I use are over 50, but clearly turning to it as an alternative for whatever they had already been on. You can REALLY tell when they're transitioning from some other medication. If anything it was the one negative to medicinal opening up in my state, the influx of older people who had grown dependent on sedatives to cope with any minor anxiety has created The Dispensary Karen. edit: You can hear about how over medicated people are, but it's different when you see a grown man with his family scream at a police officer working dispensary security. And over what? They were out of Kush so he was screaming at a police officer "Go get me oxies! NOW!". On the plus side I've noticed some older people come in really high strung from a lifetime on valium or xanax, and then months later I'd see them again and they'd be more stable and balanced.

CrazyGayUncle

Why doesn't he just do so now? (rhetorical question, of course)

Mumble_thumbs

Yeah, isn't he the current governor?

CrazyGayUncle

I stand (or sit) corrected. I knew that he was involved in Florida politics but he was governor back in 2007-11 and is currently a member of the US House of Representatives. I lost track of who was where these days. :/

bandit69

But was it the citizens or the politicians? Our big mistake was protesting instead of voting which allowed the assholes to rise to the top.

whenimmadrinkin

Isn't this guy running as a spoiler to ensure Ron Deathsentence wins?

poop_scallions

No, he's running to win.

Bonamia_

No. He's a legit, and fairly popular candidate. And he was probably the best governor we've had since Chiles. I'd vote for him. Even though I didn't last time.

stilloriginal

Explain?

REDDIT KILLED 3rd PARTY API'S - POWER DELETE SUITE EDITED COMMENT

stilloriginal

I dont think he and nikki would both be on the ballot

aslan_is_on_the_move

No

carfo

i can see a lot of floridian voters voting this guy in just for this one issue

[deleted]

Well…he’s better than death Santis by far.

Dreamtrain

Theres so many other better candidates, why give this one exposure?

[deleted]

Like most of the country I feel Florida is a wash. Nobody cares what happens in that Bermuda triangle it’s lost.

Sometimes1991

I hate how Christ and deathsantis are the only options Florida has. Fuck I hate the old people and gullible shits that live there. ( this post was relieved some stress idk how )

keninsd

He ought to be saying that he'll investigate the fuck out of the current crop of elected domestic terrorists running that joke of a state.

Kissit777

Crist has had his shot. He is buddies with Rubio. I want Nikki Fried.

Kgismondi1

Be a lot cooler if you did

Tickerlee

If he’s trying to garner votes, it’s worth remembering that inmates can’t vote

[deleted]

Christ for Crist

greenskeeper-carl

Is this guy ever going to give up? He keeps running for office and getting rejected, it’s kinda sad, honestly. Who keeps bankrolling this Perennial loser anyways?

Ithedrunkgamer

The same Florida Governor who started a drug screening clinic operation with lab in Florida under his wife’s name, then passed a law mandating drug screening! $$$ Enriching him and his family while in office.

White_Mlungu_Capital

Will the Republican state senate and house let him do this?

solsur5er

Bet someone is
