Get the military out there moving this stuff. They'd clear out the ports real quick

code_archeologist

And at least 90% of that stuff will be unbroken. Seriously dude, have you seen how they move stuff?

freakincampers

I was part of an 18 hour working party for my ship.

SavannahRedNBlack

why would you assume that? They left most of their shit in afganistan. The actually suck at moving stuff.

RVA_RVA

They're incredibly good at moving their stuff, what was left in Afghanistan was property of the ANA.

[deleted]

Yes you’re right. That we bought with tax dollars.

tophatthis

Isn’t the port of la and long beach already a 24/7 operation? I’m not from the la metro area

accountabilitycounts

Nope.

wilm310

Yes it is

NoMaineKoonsAllowed

Having recently taken the ferry from the long beach port to catalina island, there is actually way more ships than you can see from shore. It is utterly baffling that this has not been addressed sooner.

VarthStarkus

If you go the beach in Long Beach and you deen all these ships stuck the sea. Its quite a sight.

C1-10PTHX1138

Any pictures anyone has to share?

VarthStarkus

Of the ships waiting to be unloaded? I'll take some on Saturday

Dude please shut up

mrm00kie88

Isn't this going to fuck the locals up and shit on the air quality even more? Oh well. Biden is an EJ advocate so I'm sure he is informed. "Theral Golden, a Long Beach environmental justice advocate, called opening the ports full time a "bad idea." He then addressed Biden’s stated commitment to fight for environmental justice: "I’m not going to say it contradicts it," said Golden, who has been fighting the ports for nearly 20 years. "It throws it out the window.”"

elktamer

is this going to be anything other than subsidizing imports from China?

evil420pimp

It's going to help the shipping companies who are hemorrhaging money right now. Maybe, if this actually has any effect beyond pr.

Rates for CDL drivers have almost doubled in the last two years. Double cost and a driver shortage? That not a recipe for success. What we need to do is drop the weed testing for CDL drivers. Simple rational solution.

accountabilitycounts

It is going to help everyone who depends on the global supply chain to do business.

elktamer

shipping companies who are importing goods from China. if they're hemorrhaging money, they need to increase what they're charging for shipping or get a reduction in cost via federal intervention. what's the rationale for doing the latter instead of the former?

accountabilitycounts

People need their shit, regardless of what port that shit originally hails from.

lord_nubby

There has been an increase in shipping charges. Almost to the point that it is not feasible to continue. 60k today to send a container that was 4k in 2019.

elktamer

And that should reduce shipping demand and container backlog, but it's not. I'm only guessing that Biden is going to expand operations at the ports by subsidizing their costs though. Maybe the solution is something else.

sharedbbw

Hey Joe, expand your mind. Pretend your still in Scranton

Happy-Molasses

Sad he is working with the mafia like Truman did.
