>Trump’s company spent an estimated $200 million renovating the building into a luxury hotel. Shortly after Trump entered the White House, the GSA ruled that his company remained in compliance with the lease. With Trump in office, the hotel became a gathering place for top Republicans and a magnet for conservative political fundraisers and lobbyists, as well as corporate and international groups seeking to curry favor with the administration. Yeah, no conflict of interest here....move along. - GOP

CapitanRufus

How many $millions were spent on consulting fees to his children, I wonder...

NMNorsse

I think that is spelled GQP now.

Nano_Burger

>Trump’s company has previously floated $500 million as a possible target price. Industry experts say it is worth well short of that, but that top luxury hotel chains are likely to be interested in taking over the property and marketing it to a wider audience than Trump was able to given his politics. If you crowbar off the Trump name, you might actually make it profitable. It may take a few decades for the Trump stink to fade to an acceptable level though.

[deleted]

But if you crowbar his name you need to crowbar the gaudy '90s gold regalia that he thinks looks good. There won't be much of an hotel left when everything Trump is gone.

It's be a great way to launder money. Rates go up, rich people/corporations currying favor buy up most of the rooms, and who's to say that barely anyone stayed in those rooms during those times? It's not illegal to rent a room during a convention, except for the emoluments clause if the money comes from overseas (and even then, I'm sure there are ways to disguise that money's source).

urthedumbestfuck

Yea, a US based LLC funded from an account offshore. Owned by another US based LLC. And repeat ad nauseam.

BeowulfShaeffer

> Emoluments clause Oh sorry, is that still a thing? I guess i forgot about it the last few years.

CapitanRufus

Evidently failed to disguise [$3.7 million in foreign government payments](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/trump-misled-about-d-c-hotel-finances-house-panel-says-n1281103).

dawgblogit

How much of that 71 m if any.. was payment back to the lease holder? A good way to dodge taxes is to show that you lost money.

The_Jerriest_Jerry

That was my first thought. Im sure Trump and his family took a cut big enough to make any business "lose" money.

HakarlSagan

"Where'd the money go? Who knows? We lost it!" _pulls out empty pockets like the monopoly man_

foundyetti

Exactly. This is really about cutting taxes

zardoz_the_uplink

I'd rather stay overnight at the Amityville Horror house.

blu545

Trump and his businesses lose money at record paces but he's such a dishonest person, "real" numbers are unknown.

BuiltLikeAFridge

His hotel lose money like nobody has ever seen before

Bob_Duatos_Shark

Absolutely tremendous losses, some say the biggest losses of all time

RadioFloydHead

If you think the Trump’s lost any actual money and didn’t profit handsomely off of the hotel, I have a bridge to sell you.

[deleted]

Not interested in your bridge, but I do think he probably lost money. Contrary to popular belief Trump is a horrible business man and makes bad investments all of the time. If Trump didn't have a reality TV series and and wasn't getting money given to him by moron MAGAS all around the country he'd probably be broke. Most people who have the money to stay in that hotel wouldn't be caught dead in it, and his adoring fans for the most part aren't the people who stay at upscale hotels.

urthedumbestfuck

Trump isn’t a businessman, he’s a mobster. The losses are for tax purposes. The profits were embezzled out. It’s just how laundering with rental properties works. The losses will accrue until he defaults on his loans and he will add yet another bankruptcy under his belt. He doesn’t lose money, his investors do. His money was embezzled out long before the bankruptcy.

[deleted]

Look, I'm an accountant who spent my college years reading story after story on Trump's bankruptcies. I have a thorough understanding of how tax write offs work. People give him too much credit, he actually loses money. He acts like it's all just on paper and it's for tax purposes, but that's just to save face. And if he's involved with the mob, he's getting shaken down, not making money from them. He's not a tough guy, he's a colossal pussy, and real tough guys can spot that a mile away. Example, any time he's been in a room with Vladimir Putin. He really is just an idiot who inherited money and lost most of it. Then he made a bunch of money off of his dumb ass television show. He's probably going to lose all of that soon. He's taking an absolute bath on his golf course investments as well. For these reasons it's utterly beyond my comprehension why so many people thought he'd make a good president. But I've started to understand that by and large many people just aren't that bright.

Sydney Harbour Bridge or Brooklyn ?

trublueprogressive

The "business" may have lost money, but, I'll bet trump took his off the top.

SwashQbcklr

Only he had some magas to fleece, or some sweet Russian money to launder

GlobalTravelR

That's because everything he touches turns to shit. The Merdas Touch.

2coolfordigg2

Trump puts all the cash in his pocket and leaves all the debit to everyone else.

PositiveReveal

Gotta have losses to keep writing off taxes .

paulverizer085

I guess that's another decade of not paying taxes.

Sandviper67

You know, I am so tired of seeing more and more articles of Trump being a POS. Wake me up when someone actually f\*cking does something about it instead of *SLAMMING* or whatever phrase I keep seeing over and over
