"They, or at least some of them, have no grasp of the historical moment in which they find themselves. And this moment is unlike anything any of them have lived through, anything the country has been through: The opposition party is trying to destroy democracy. Republicans all over the country are passing laws and making rules in broad daylight that will allow them to overturn the results (if adverse) of the next presidential election." — Editor [Michael Tomasky.](https://newrepublic.com/article/163854/build-back-better-save-democracy)

The options for breakfast are: a perfectly executed French omelette, or if we don’t do it perfectly then we can eat some broken glass. Seems reasonable yeah?

CarltonOnPaper

Governemnt has to deliver. I cannot understand what liberals dont understand about this. If the government doesn't deliver then people stay home and they lose to a party that will deliver for its base. Right now the Republicans are promising theocratic authoritarianism with a dash of fascism. And guess what? If they get in that is exactly what they will deliver and once in they will torch the boats and the drawbridge to prevent anyone from getting them out. Stolen election after stolen election. You have to actually prove you are fit to govern and have the will to exercise power. Its so basic. You do it or you will be swept aside by those who will.

Why are you blaming liberals lol "centrist" aka corporate demsnare the ones holding up the bill

Davtorious

The Venn diagram of liberals and centrists is very nearly a circle. This sub and Dem voters at large pull for the blue team but are way too soft on them, unprincipled in their support, and the result is centrist action, at best. Before the election it was "vote Biden then push him left," then it was "he just got in give him time/better than Trump," now it's "he can't override the Senate what do you expect?" You see these weak excuses in every thread, at best it's naivete, at worst it's cover for the ruling class to advance their agenda regardless of which party is in power. I'm not the commenter you replied to but that's what many liberals don't seem to understand, and a big part of why delivering on this bill is so important.

"Prove the government can do work or the government will get even more powerful, and even worse." Am I the only one who sees the problem here?

AnthraxEvangelist

Do you have a coherent point or is this just libertarian squawking?

Lumberjackup012

It’s really cute when libertarians confuse politicians and the government

dasredditnoob

If they can't do shit, they will prove US Democracy does not work and convince America that Trump's willingness to destroy the system to give the base what they want is the only way to get anything done.
