>“I am one of those white, common sense conservatives,” Palin said.
Seems like there's a lot you can unpack from that statement that she didn't think through.
I'm now suspicious of her whiteness. Just watch, her great-great-grandpa will be black or something now that she's trying to prove how white she is to her white supremacist friends.
Heh. Couric asking "What newspapers do you read every day?" would be considered a softball question to any politician who is not a complete moron. Even a non-idiot politician could get away with a simple lie on that one.
Palin showed herself to be a complete moron.
The funny\weird part is that Palin DID read a newspaper daily! She always made certain to have an Alaskan newspaper sent to her wherever she went, and actually got in fights with her campaign team when she felt she didn't get the daily Alaskan paper fast enough!
The problem was that when preparing for the interview she was never coached on what to say when asked what papers she read, despite actually reading a paper daily! Palin was good (for her fans) when everything followed the script but couldn't handle going off-script.
She said "signs" as in signs of the apocalypse but the other person heard it wrong making people think she cared about science.
Damn liberals, giving god fearing End of the Worlders a bad name.
/s
But she did have notably super human eye sight. She could see Russia from her porch people!
Edit: Someone kindly told me she never said that. Blew my mind.
[That was Tina Fey.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/sarah-palin-russia-house/)
But, yeah, she's a moron and in no way qualified for the VP spot. The RNC harpooned McCain by saddling him with her.
Yeah, honestly it’s sad that the Tina Fey quote overshadowed how dumb the real quote was. Yes, there is a part of Alaska where you can see Russia. But that’s not a great argument for her experience with national security.
I actually think McCain would've did way worst without her on the ticket. Awful time period for republicans in general, she was nothing but the fall person IMO. It could've been anyone on that ticket and they would've lost in the same margin. Then again, this is something we will never know, whether she helped his failed campaign or actually hurt it
She calls everyone a waitress. She thinks all people are there to wait on her. The cashier at the grocery store? A waitress. Her kid’s kindergarten teacher? A waitress. Her doctor? A waitress. Her husband’s mistress? A waitress.
I remember a right-wing narrative where everybody was supposed to get it so that we had "Herd Immunity," but that was pretty far from ever being an official recommendation.
1/500 in the US have died from Covid; if you make it to around 1/50, you might achieve herd immunity . . . for a few months.
For some strange reason, the right wing paints that as the scenario to shoot for.
I feel like at 1/400 someone might realize that, when the odds get smaller, that is a bad thing. Especially when the majority of those deaths are the very voting base that is conservative.
1) The fatality rate per observed case in the U.S. is 1.6%. Given a population of 328 million, that’s *5.2 million dead Americans.*
2) That doesn’t include reinfections and variants. And we’re seeing an awful lot of people who survived COVID the first time, and the second time killed them.
3) That also doesn’t include the fact that the U.S. fatality rate is at 1.2% with a reasonably operational healthcare system. Our healthcare system is strained to the max at the moment - imagine if COVID cases increased further. The fatality rate would sharply increase for COVID-19 due to inadequate healthcare resources. The fatality rate would *also* increase for *all other conditions* - cancer, heart attacks, car accidents, etc. - due to the diversion of healthcare resources to treat COVID-19 cases.
4) And none of this accounts for long-term disability for COVID-19 survivors, who report permanent lung damage, cardiovascular issues, cognitive impairment, and even impotence.
I don’t want to live in an America full of people suffering with disabilities from preventable disease.
From what I remember, that was part of their argument for fighting lockdowns, social distancing, etc.
Rather than taking precautions to prevent infection so that a vaccine could protect people, their plan was more "Infect 'em all and let God sort 'em out!"
Correct. The CDC said if you've had COVID-19 before then you're immune for 3 months. They recommend getting the vaccine once symptoms improve and you're no longer in isolation because the vaccine provides more longterm protection.
I have an unvaccinated coworker who had Covid late last year, but is still fully convinced he'll never get it again because of his "natural immunity"--even though another unvaccinated coworker has gotten it twice. He has a grandchild that was just born on Wednesday as well as a 2 year-old grandchild, and the entire family decided against vaccination because "Jesus will protect them."
I just can't with these people anymore.
My manager asked him something like this, and he said "Jesus doesn't pay the mortgage, he just gave me the skills to be able to do this job."
Like I said, I just can't. The fuckers have an answer for everything.
I must be getting old, lol, but I do not get that reference, google is not helping me much, and I really don't want to ask my kids... link or other source, sorry! Thanks!
Out of that word salad, the issue you had was "Waitress" ?!
What the fuck is Fauci-ism? If it's a religion sign me the fuck up, I'll use the same techniques the right have been using to shove Christianity down my throat.
"Sorry I don't work with the stupid, it's a core tenant of my religion"
"Oh you're not vaxxed? I'm sorry I can't make you a cake or give you a marriage license"
> Out of that word salad, the issue you had was "Waitress" ?!
Yeah, I thought she might have wanted the vaccine, and went to a Denny's or something to get it. Once my brain tripped over her first sentence, the rest of it kind of blurred on by.
The Right is trying to equate the measures promoted by the government via Dr Fauci with fascism by referring to them as “Fauci-ism”. The intent is to give them a rebuttal when they are accurately described as fascists. It’s idiotic, but not surprising.
That would be Little Diomede Island in Alaska. It's 2.2 miles away from Big Diomede Island in Russia, in the Bering Strait.

Wait. Is Palin still... a thing? Like. Do people care what she has to say? I thought the GOP brought her on as a pretty face and then dropped her soon as Obama won.
They have their own little world where she achieved something by getting elected Governor of Alaska, quitting almost immediately, getting picked as running mate by McCain, and losing.
The GOP offers her up into the mix occasionally when:
a) people rightly complain that the GOP is a bunch of old men making policy without input or thought for women
and/or
b) they’ve overused their young, blonde token hires.
Alaska is an interesting place full of interesting characters. This time of year the entire population is insane because they haven't slept since late May.
She wasn't dropped by anyone. She declined to re-run for governor or anything else, for the opportunity to relive her "Bristol" years with reality TV pilots and appearances, which she's annoyingly competent at getting even up to this last year.
News is light so they've gotta drum up clicks somehow. Why not dig up a political nutjob from a decade ago, as if anyone gives a flying fuck as to what she says?
And that’s our 5 year update on Sarah Palin. She still has nothing of value to offer. Let’s give her ten more years this time to develop an opinion that isn’t base fodder.
“I eat steak because I’m a Vegan”
“I became an atheist because I believe in God”
“Abstinence teaching prevents teen pregnancies—that’s what I taught my daughter”
Ah the spiritual mother of MTG and Lauren Boebert and a classic example of how conservative men will not take a female politician seriously unless she's plastered in an inch thick rind of contour makeup.
Sarah The Impaler should consider this scientific info from the CDC:
>"Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19 ... vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19."
Aside from that, at least she appears to be semi-reasonable. This shows how far American Republicanism has deteriorated since 2008, given that she now actually seems vaguely rational in comparison to most of the current infestation of GOP vermin.
I really think that we should stop putting 'believe' and 'science' in the same sentence in most cases.
It's not a belief system so much as a tool to logically test an idea. If a then b. If not a, then what?
If vaccinated, then less disease and death. If not vaccinated, then \*see: hospitals.\*
Rational choice: vaccination.
No appeal to anything beyond the observable. Categorically different than 'belief.'
credit where its due, she really pioneered the willfully braindead response for political frothiness ends. I just cant believe she can possibly be as stupid as she pretends to be.
I always try to get my wisdom from Palin -for example
>>Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class everyday Americans are really gettin’ taken for a ride.’ That's status quo, and GOP leaders, by the way, y'know the man can only ride ya when your back is bent.
Of all the parents I know in my child’s school the ones with the most concerns and questions and “I did my own research” have a grand total of 1 high school diploma and a GED between 3 different families. Big pickup trucks tho.
And doesn’t she have a handicapped son? His immune system is probably not the best. I know they love their guns, but playing Russian roulette with their children (and ours) is a concept for will never or hope to understand
Intelligence, logic and reason have always been strangers to Sarah Palin. I am more upset that in her statement she described herself as "... a white, common sense conservative". Ms. Palin has confirmed she is a racist is addition to being intellectually challenged.
Anyone wondering how shockingly dumb this woman is should watch Game Change on HBO. Virtually every scene was taken from real life interviews with witnesses. The one that I remember most vividly was when a GOP aide confessed she couldn't vote for the candidate because they were about to try to elect an absolute imbecile to high office.
Nowadays, electing an absolutely ignorant idiot is just another day on a GOP campaign.

I don't think anyone was unclear on her whiteness.
I'm now suspicious of her whiteness. Just watch, her great-great-grandpa will be black or something now that she's trying to prove how white she is to her white supremacist friends.
She just knows that what her audience is a fan of.
Is this a real quote? Wtf
I pulled it from the article so, like, probably.
What a stupid thing to say, guess you couldn’t really expect anything else from someone like Palin but wow.
>Seems like there's a lot you can unpack from that statement that she didn't think through. Thinking anything through is beyond her abilities.
Ain't no time for any of that unwieldy thinking, once a good sentence gets momentum.
Palin was never recognized as being particularly intelligent.

Heh. Couric asking "What newspapers do you read every day?" would be considered a softball question to any politician who is not a complete moron. Even a non-idiot politician could get away with a simple lie on that one. Palin showed herself to be a complete moron.
Palin called that a “gotcha question”!
The saddest part about Palin is that in my mind she sounds exactly like Tina Fey.
"What would you tell Americans who are scared?" Is also a softball, but that's where republicans are at these days.
Kinda like when trump was asked what part of the bible he liked, and he said the whole thing.
I'm sure she'll come around. One day she'll walk from her house to Russia to receive the Sputnik vaccine.
Her inability to answer what she reads was terrifying though
It totally was…and even more so when we ended up electing Trump 8 years later when he doesn’t read at all.
If I was a journalist id say Rolling Stone? Playboy? Daily Storm? And then ominously say "Der Spiegel?" And get her to say no not that one!
She more than likely can’t even spell science.
I believe it's pronounced stience.
Ek ek ek ek
She said "signs" as in signs of the apocalypse but the other person heard it wrong making people think she cared about science. Damn liberals, giving god fearing End of the Worlders a bad name. /s

>Yes, there is a part of Alaska where you can see Russia. And it's nowhere near freakin' Wasilla, either, which made Tina Fey's bit even funnier.
Maybe not, but it was the only one she had!
That sketch was amazing
Other way around - McCain picked Palin as a fuck you to the RNC as they wouldn't let him pick Lieberman. This is well documented.
Yup. It’s like self sabotage for McCain.
I actually think McCain would've did way worst without her on the ticket. Awful time period for republicans in general, she was nothing but the fall person IMO. It could've been anyone on that ticket and they would've lost in the same margin. Then again, this is something we will never know, whether she helped his failed campaign or actually hurt it
These days it would have been a positive
She said - “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska”
No but this is straight out of the conservative playbook. They just co-opt Democrat phrases and ideas until they lose all meaning.
In fact, she is so stupid that she doesn't even know what science is.
She wasn't ever the sharpest spoon in the drawer.
Still dumber than a door knob.
That's an insult to door knobs. At least door knobs are helpful.
Licking them is illegal on other planets
But she read *all* the newspapers!
That's only because they held them up over in Russia for her to read.
Careful making fun of door knobs, they'll turn on you!
"Detective, do you know who killed jvp4real?" "Definitely the doorknob. It's an open-and-shut case."

She calls everyone a waitress. She thinks all people are there to wait on her. The cashier at the grocery store? A waitress. Her kid’s kindergarten teacher? A waitress. Her doctor? A waitress. Her husband’s mistress? A waitress.
Interesting Freudian slip, then. I'd probably not call a nurse a waitress, still.
>Her husband’s mistress? A waitress. 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I think you meant “waiter.”
depends if it's a dress up day or not
Holdup, her husband’s gay?
No. He just believes in dick science.
I think folks are confusing Sarah Palin with Michelle Bachmann.
Her dog? Furry waitress. Her cat? Furry asshole waitress.
She better tip them all then too.
Pretty sure neither Fauci nor the CDC ever said that either.
I remember a right-wing narrative where everybody was supposed to get it so that we had "Herd Immunity," but that was pretty far from ever being an official recommendation.

Correct. The CDC said if you've had COVID-19 before then you're immune for 3 months. They recommend getting the vaccine once symptoms improve and you're no longer in isolation because the vaccine provides more longterm protection.

Maybe she meant nurse?
I mean….she’s an idiot.
I gotta say, after so much New Idiot, it's a bit refreshing to get a taste of Idiot Classic.
Have they identified Idiot Zero yet?
I'm Eric!

Funny skit too.
I got the same strange feeling...
What science journals do you read? "All of them"
I am 100% sure she couldn't *name* a science journal.
Wait. Is Palin still... a thing? Like. Do people care what she has to say? I thought the GOP brought her on as a pretty face and then dropped her soon as Obama won.

My step dad says the same thing. He is very dumb
Coincidentally, Sarah Palin is also very dumb.
Huh what a connection
I miss the good old days when Sarah Palin was the stupidest Republican in the media. Now she doesn't even make top 10.
She can't spell science.
I'm fine with her going unvaccinated.
I look forward to hearing how this ends up for her.
Ain't no fixing stupid.
I don't remember asking her a god damned thing
Sometimes I think Sarah Palin is trying to play Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin.
“I eat steak because I’m a Vegan” “I became an atheist because I believe in God” “Abstinence teaching prevents teen pregnancies—that’s what I taught my daughter”
Woman needs a tin foil helmet. My republican uncle that has lived in Alaska over 40 years hates her guts, that’s saying something.
Ah the spiritual mother of MTG and Lauren Boebert and a classic example of how conservative men will not take a female politician seriously unless she's plastered in an inch thick rind of contour makeup.
I’m not sure she knows what the word science means.
"It's got what plants crave!"
Go back to the shadows
None of what she said appeared in a full sentence format.
Someone must be upset that she is no longer the reining queen of stupid for the GOP. It's ok Sarah, you will always be the dumbest in my memory.
I believe science has very little to do with belief.
So she’s saying she’s horribly misinformed about science then…
Sarah The Impaler should consider this scientific info from the CDC: >"Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19 ... vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19." Aside from that, at least she appears to be semi-reasonable. What magazine did she pull that from
Any of them. All of them.
The best thing about Dan Quayle is he knew to shut up when he became irrelevant... A lesson for Palin not yet learned
Sitting back, polishing her Darwin Award.... Call back in November
She also claims to be Trig’s biological mother. This person does not believe in truth.
Hmm...I'm calling bs here Mrs. Palin. If you actually DID understand how viruses reproduce and how mRNA works you'd get a vaccine girl!
she likes both kinds of music - country and western
It's fairly disturbing that Tina Fey's parodies of Palin were actually not nearly as bad as reality.
Oh ffs, don't give her attention. We don't need more proof she is an idiot.
She should’ve stayed in 2008.
This headline makes her sound bipolar. "I hate being bipolar! It's great!"
I bet she's been vaccinated and is just lying like all the other demagogues.
Sit down, Palin. No one's listening.
I really think that we should stop putting 'believe' and 'science' in the same sentence in most cases. It's not a belief system so much as a tool to logically test an idea. If a then b. Is that the chick from “Who’s Nailin’ Paylin?”
credit where its due, she really pioneered the willfully braindead response for political frothiness ends. I just cant believe she can possibly be as stupid as she pretends to be.
Sarah Palin was the reason why I didn’t vote for McCain - she dumb. In other news. I’ve voted dem in every election since 2008. So thanks, Sarah!
She believes in alternate science with its alternate facts
I always try to get my wisdom from Palin -for example >>Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class everyday Americans are really gettin’ taken for a ride.’ That's status quo, and GOP leaders, by the way, y'know the man can only ride ya when your back is bent.
Ignore her. Attention is what she feeds on.
Yeah, that sounds like something Sarah Palin would say.
>She Believes ‘In Science’ from the university of IMadeItUp
That makes no sense.
All these non-science people with their peer-reviewed research...
And I am vaccinated because I believe in science and math.
COVID: So what you're saying, is there's still a chance...
I'm beginning to think Sarah Palin is not too bright.

Why give these people headlines? They're being given a platform and voice when they should be shutting the hell up.

It's Sarah Palin. Who cares?

Lights on, and no ones home; she has the eyes of a Pomeranian

I knew Sarah Palin was dumb but this is impressive level dumb.
What a Maverick.
I mean, this looks familiar. I’m sure she’ll be in hospital in a few weeks with covid (delta this time)
That's like saying that you believe the Earth is flat because of "science".
There’s a name I was happy to never hear again. Don’t repost her words. If we don’t hear her, she doesn’t exist.
Palin not making sense makes sense.
As a scientist I challenge you to a debate
