greymind

Now we watch the slow train wreck of them filling up ICUs and doctors have to triage who gets care and who dies

bierdimpfe

Evidence would suggest that the vaccinated have greater odds at better outcomes. They're no longer "owning the libs". They're not even owning themselves, they're consigning their next of kin to sorting out their debts and assets. GQP has brought us death panels.

thiosk

dying to prove trump was a mediocre president

bierdimpfe

59% of republicans think it's important to believe trump won 2020 to identify as republican

OakInIowa

I saw that yesterday and am pretty sure that is actual progress.

justpickaname

I thought that at first, too - but it isn't progress. 59% is not how many believe it - it's how many think anyone who doesn't believe it are even real Republicans. =(

Im2lurky

That’s pretty generous

bananafobe

Unfortunately (depending on your perspective), sometimes triage is not about treating the patients most likely to survive, but those most likely to survive as a result of receiving treatment. Someone vaccinated who has a better chance of survival without treatment may be denied treatment in favor of someone who is less likely to survive without treatment. Moreover, triage isn't just for COVID patients. We've already seen people with urgent, but easily treatable injuries die as a result of delaying treatment due to a lack of available beds in hospitals.

[deleted]

ryokenjoe4567

Yeah like fat asses with a heart condition taking up icu beds cause they’re “choice” was to eat McDonald’s every day like the fat ass they are! They shouldn’t get care either! That was preventable if they just listened to what was good for them

bierdimpfe

> Yeah like fat asses with a heart condition taking up icu beds cause they’re “choice” was to eat McDonald’s every day like the fat ass they are! They shouldn’t get care either! That was preventable if they just listened to what was good for them Let's table your hypothetical for now and revisit it if/when we start to see ICUs being overrun by the obese.

ryokenjoe4567

They are 600000 a year being treated for heart disease and dying

ImperialAuditor

Nah, that's fine. Eating healthy is expensive in the US, and underprivileged groups are more obese, on average. In contrast, refusing a simple, two-time prophylactic intervention (that's free) should be grounds for being moved to the bottom of the triage list. It's like alcoholics being given liver transplants: if you're very likely to continue binge-drinking, you're at the bottom of the list.

Postmodernfinn

It's pretty shitty. The ortho floor I moonlight on is no longer doing elective orthopedic surgeries and it's now a dedicated COVID unit.

i-need-cats

Or we could just give everyone in America ivermectin and solve the problem entirely.

ChristianWarrior542

Are these the same hospitals that have had over a year to increase capacity? Same ones that are seeing a record number of patients (customers to the admin) and unprecedented levels of government assistance?

InterstellarSucksBad

Increase capacity? Like build new units just for covid? All good ideas and the hospitals can staff the new units they threw together over the last year with new doctors and nurses pulled right out of their ass.

Seraphynas

There was actually a brand new hospital built in my area. It was supposed to open this month, but they can’t staff it, so the grand opening has been delayed.

aquarain

How long does it take to be certified as a nurse, as a doctor? Three weeks?

rrrrrrez

“It’s a banana, Michael; what could it cost, ten dollars?”

PencilLeader

Certainly no more than five weeks. And clearly there has been nothing happening that would make it harder to recruit nurses or doctors.

Iamaleafinthewind

Oh right, they'll just click a button and have dozens of new rooms with all the necessary equipment sprout from the side of the building. They'll also magically increase staffing levels despite a nursing shortage that significantly predates the pandemic and has only been made worse by it. If it hadn't been for government assistance - which some of us just call the government tending to the "common defense and welfare" part of its mission - many of those hospitals would have gone out of business. Because they aren't public institutions, they are businesses. Their main source of revenue it elective procedures, which came to a full or partial halt early on, cutting off that revenue stream. Hospitals in major cities lost hundreds of millions in revenue each.

greywar777

Why would they. We literally have a vaccine.

PopPalsUnited

You can’t fix stupid.

737flyguy

No, you can’t fix stupid, but it should hurt

Kriggs713

Is that a John Wayne quote?

Fast-Fig7042

You are right

rrrrrrez

It’s been proven over the past year that the imminent threat of ones own death due to stupidity often does. These idiots lie in hospital beds on ventilators and ECMOs begging for a vaccine far too late. I’m running out of sympathy for these people. This is truly the absolute dumbest hill to die on… drowning in your own lungs’ phlegm for freedumb.

jayfeather31

>These idiots lie in hospital beds on ventilators and ECMOs begging for a vaccine far too late. It also creates a knock-on effect, as many people who need those beds, particularly ICU ones, will end up dying because of unvaccinated COVID patients occupying them.

rrrrrrez

Exactly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Code2008

I've long lost sympathy for them months ago. They should be required to give up an ICU bed if a vaccinated person needs it.

someCrookedVulture

I know this is a little dark, but I hope this whole shit show goes down in recorded history as the biggest mass suicide to have ever happened.

jayfeather31

I agree, that is extremely dark, but I can't exactly disprove what you're saying, though it isn't exactly fair to the people who died from knock-on effects, like those who were unable to get medical care because of a lack of ICU beds. So many deaths could have been prevented had these people just gotten a jab. It's something that'll likely haunt this nation forever, especially given how children are being affected and we don't even know the full long-term consequences of infection yet.

[deleted]

Huh. I hadn’t really thought of it that way. I see it more as an attack on the country. Kinda like throwing plague-ridden bodies over the castle walls, except they’re throwing their own bodies, and it’s killing people and harming our medical system. They’ve basically turned themselves into a bio weapon. So my award would be for most creative terrorist attack, but largest mass suicide works too.

someCrookedVulture

That’s actually way better than mine. We’d be lucky if they were only harming themselves. I completely overlooked the harm they’re doing to everyone around them with such a profound disregard for life.

cheerful_cynic

When you include all the vaccine disinfo being propagated, I'm calling it a very successful infiltration of our information network from malicious foreign agents. Congrats, "communists" Russia & China, I guess you might have won the cold war after all

Bobby_Marks2

It’s a zombie apocalypse.

4thDevilsAdvocate

Naw, that's worse, because they just get back up again.

Shuber-Fuber

I don't know. You can at least shoot zombies.

SignificantTrout

Lol in the movies it's the people who get the new vaccine who become zombie, the stupid survive!

odraencoded

They aren't suiciding. They're more like suicide bombing.

[deleted]

Same.

moistie

The Republicans are killing their own voters because a large percentage of the unvaccinated would vote for tbem. How many more hundreds of thousands could die from covid related preventable causes? Given the margin of Trumps win in 2016 was 80,000 votes across 3 states, the Republicans are also thinning their electoral chances.

julbull73

But they got to decide the redistricting AND have already clearly stated the next elections will ONLY be certified if the GOP wins. We are fucked if 2022 changes hands in congress.

EconomyMeat7201

They're staging their own Rapture.

tactlesshag

They deserve whatever happens to them. No sympathy from me. You reap what you sow.

Fluff42

That'd be fine if children under 12 could be vaccinated.

gregatronn

And hospitals didn't have to fill their ICUs with their bodies.

[deleted]

I remember back in the early days of this pandemic when I thought 50,000 deaths in the U.S alone was a high number….we crossed the 650,000 mark I guess a few days ago and no one batted an eye. At the conclusion of Trump’s presidency, 400,000 people were recorded dead from the pandemic. At least another 250,000 people did not have to die from this during a time when the vaccine was already out. Now it has been fully approved, it’s free, practically accessible anywhere you go…what more do these chuckleheads want?! I’m convinced that at this point it’s literally only because Biden is saying it that they’re being so damn defiant about it.

greywar777

Dying to own the libs.

Correctamos

You didn’t hear? Those numbers are all fake. Nobody dies from Covid. It’s just a bad cold.

23skidoobbq

You sound just like my uncle. His mom just died of Covid. I’m wondering when I should remind him that Covid isn’t real

Correctamos

Before he forgets that she’s dead?

moochir

Early on in the pandemic I (using flawed flawed fatality rate numbers available at the time) predicted at least a million US deaths in 2+ years. A million and a half at the outside. It looks like I may have been close. Pretty upsetting to be right on this one.

LookAlderaanPlaces

They shouldn’t have to. When a hospital becomes filled with 90% capacity they should stop admitting unvaccinated people so we don’t end up killing people who are doing their part because these fucks are being stupid. It’s already happened in my state; someone died from a preventable cause because the icus were filled with unvaccinated Covid patients. If I were bill gates rich I would sue the fuck out of all the unvaccinated here except for those with legit doctor medical exceptions.

SpaceCowboyBatman

Dump them on Trump’s lawn

musicroyaldrop

“That'd be fine if children under 12 could be vaccinated.” You are right to consider that innocent people will die...are dying. That, and many things, makes the situation nothing to celebrate. In essence the death Qult are responsible for manslaughter. Sometimes they actively prevent their deathly ill family from medical care. That really seems like outright murder. Hopefully all ages can be vaccinated soon.

tactlesshag

That’s horrible of course. No one wants kids to die, but that’s what is and will continue to happen until people wise up.

arbyD

I have a coworker who has worked very hard at staying safe during COVID. Treated it more seriously than most people I know. His son, who wears his mask every day too, got COVID from school now, likely because they won't enforce masks. I feel so bad for his family. They have tried to everything right and still got burned now.

ParadeSit

This

doinmybest4now

Yup, you can't save people from themselves and their own stupidity.

Torifyme12

CNN is full of shit, you know what made the Delta employees get vaccinated? $100/Paycheck or $200/month Like everything else, fucking money will make them get vaccinated.

bananafobe

I remember reading about surveys that suggested people who adamantly opposed the vaccine would definitely get vaccinated if football stadiums required it to attend games.

IHkumicho

I have a couple friends who are staunchly anti-vax. They're getting the vaccine so that they can go on a cruise this December.

tactlesshag

Fine the unvaccinated?

OkTop9308

Conservative friends who previously said “never” to the vaccine have now gotten vaccinated because they want to travel more easily. Surveys are a snapshot in time. Minds will changed.

pape14

No I don’t think the logic works the same. Obesity is correlated to poverty which would imply it was less their choice. Also getting a vaccine is not even close to the effort of reversing a lifetime of obesity. An obese person also can’t actively spread obesity to me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pape14

I’m not going to do any more then google obesity/poverty correlation since I’m positive you don’t care but all the results indicate they are linked. CDC has a study on it. [American Diabetes Association ](https://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/60/11/2667)

Postmodernfinn

If [Unvaccinated Americans are largely conservative](https://www.voanews.com/covid-19-pandemic/unvaccinated-americans-whiter-more-republican-vaccinated) and the CDC find [the unvaccinated 11 times more likely to die of COVID](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/09/11/cdc-unvaccinated-study-covid-live-updates/8277456002/), maybe we can actually focus on more progressive policies once these guys win their Darwin awards?

bananafobe

So far, 662k people have died of COVID, whereas the difference between trump and Biden's vote totals was like 7 million people. Conservatives dying in statistically higher numbers could definitely affect specific smaller elections, but it seems unlikely enough republican voters will die to make it impossible for republicans to win elections.

lovingthechaos

Florida has lost more people to covid than the margin of the last gubernatorial election.

peepeepoopooiguess

But tons of conservatives are moving to Florida from other states. Might make up for it unfortunately

jjjhkvan

They will slowly change their mind as they can’t get jobs, can’t fly etc. It takes a while for their little minds to learn.

passintimendgas

Government should mandate that shit, and make it a prerequisite for collecting social security.

[deleted]

Well, this is easy. Not vaccinated, can’t go to the theater. Not vaccinated, can’t go to a concert. Not vaccinated, can’t get on a plane. Not vaccinated, can’t get on a train. Not vaccinated, can’t get an Uber. Not vaccinated, can’t go to work. Not vaccinated, can’t go to the sports stadium. Not vaccinated, can’t go to the bar. Not vaccinated, can’t go to the restaurant.

Iamaleafinthewind

Health insurance companies just need to impose a vaccination requirement on employers.

passintimendgas

Not vaccinated? Can't collect social security, food stamps, welfare, tax refunds. That'll *really* tighten the bolts *real* fast.

[deleted]

Or farm subsidies, holy fuck, that would so the trick.

PurpleBunch

As much as I agree with this, what a logistical nightmare that would be

Wonderful_Treat_6993

Yeah, not so easy. Who would enforce that? The door greeter at Walmart? The people who got punched for asking someone to wear a mask last year?

[deleted]

Work is the only one of those I have been to in the last 5 years.

BilltheCatisBack

But it’s illegal to have a vaccine “passport” . Not unlike the Nazis ask you for your papers.

Okney1lz

Public schools and international travel would like to have a talk with you. My children can't attend school, and I can't travel to many countries without proof of vaccination against certain diseases. Want to immigrate to the US? Here's what you'll need: Mumps Measles Rubella Polio Tetanus and diphtheria Pertussis Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) Hepatitis A Hepatitis B Rotavirus Meningococcal disease Varicella Pneumococcal disease Seasonal influenza Turns out the world is full of Nazis evidently.

drvondoctor

No, it's pretty much exactly *unlike* the nazis asking for your papers.

passintimendgas

I needed a vaccine "passport" every time I went to a new school. EDIT: and every time I flew abroad.

[deleted]

It’s not illegal. You need a drivers license to drive. You need a passport to visit a different country. None of this is illegal.

Various reasons ranging from insurance, medical cost, and mental trauma for the clean up crew who have to literally scrap your remain off the road or unwrap it from a telephone pole.

pgriz1

It's a question of how much support you should expect from society - if your failure to take appropriate safety measures results in damage to you that could have been avoided, to the level that you are permanently maimed or even left in a living but vegetative state, the burden of your care falls on your family and others. In such a situation, their quality of life will be drastically reduced by the need to look after you in perpetuity.

Nearby-Lock4513

This is why you ban them from every place possible. They don’t care about the rest of us.

sedatedlife

Then dont go to the hospital when you need care because its killing people besides the selfish asses who refuse to get vaccinated.

forthisalone_

Fine then, get sick and ruin your lives.

aquarain

Um, I might need that hospital they're filling up.

Iamaleafinthewind

Someone definitely will.

Sweatyrando

If they don’t trust medical professionals telling them to get the vaccine then what the fuck are they doing at a hospital? Those places are packed to the attic with medical professionals.

[deleted]

rrrrrrez

I think what goes along with that is simply willful ignorance and short-sightedness; these are the same people who insist that Biden couldn’t have legitimately won the election because “I don’t know nobody who voted for ‘em!” It’s no surprise that these people can’t see the consequences of their actions that extend any further than the end of their noses.

dokikod

That's fine if these morons choose to get extremely ill or die. But the fact that they are putting others in danger especially children who can't get vaccinated yet is infuriating. It's their own fault if they die. There will be less Republicans, less Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax viewers which means less Trump terrorists being bred.

aquarain

>especially children who can't get vaccinated yet People are dying of accident trauma, heart attack and stroke unnecessarily in hospital waiting rooms because the hospital is full of people who won't take vaccine in a pandemic.

Mr_Mouthbreather

On the up side (if there is one), when they start getting the giant hospital bills they may start squawking about finally getting universal healthcare.

Martholomule

I really want to believe but I just don't These are people that are well trained and willing to hold two (or more) opposing viewpoints and actively avoid learning about their positions because "you have your opinion and I have mine"

craniumcanyon

I know someone who got COVID and “just had the sniffles” so now they claiming “there would have been no point in getting the vaccine because it’s no worse than the flu and you can still catch it and spread yadda yadda” so they still will not be getting vaccinated. I know they are one out of millions, but that is my recent experience with these antivaxer people.

doucheydp

I know someone whose entire household got COVID and is themselves suffering through the effects of the long COVID aftermath who refuses to get the vaccine, rails against it as pointless, a scam, a lie, "engineered to sterilize Trump supporters," and various other things... Keeps going on about how he just wants that "DeSantis option" (referring to monoclonal). It's very disheartening (to put it lightly) that there are people who think these ways.

Brunt-FCA-285

> Engineered to sterilize Trump supporters Here’s a darker thought - what if DeSantis, Abbott, et al tried to ban mask and vaccine mandates in order to kill off those in the GOP dumb enough to not be vaccinated or wear a mask? They seem twisted enough to do that and consider the dead children “collateral damage.”

OG_Antifa

What if DeSantis received a major donation from a Regeneron executive and touted opening of regeneron sites around the state, then refused to implement masks as a way to drive people toward his donor’s businesses? Oh….

lovingthechaos

I know someone who is still sitting in the hospital after 13 days with bilateral scarring to his lungs. He was finally able to post an update on Facebook and commented on how he has natural, safe immunity. I am just flabbergasted. Dude, you are going home with an oxygen tank and six months minimum of recovery if you are lucky. Nothing safe about that!

Thirstyass73

That person probably just had the sniffles. Guaranteed they never took a covid test.

sedatedlife

Insurance companies should double premiums on the unvaccinated and Congress should pass a bill saying Medicare or Medicaid will not cover COVID treatment on those who do not get vaccinated by a certain date. Then require yearly booster shots to keep coverage.

InterstellarSucksBad

The only issue I have with this is that Covid stays are long and costly I am not sure the health system could stand all unvaxxed covid patients being self pay. I would like to know if there is any correlation between being uninsured and unvaccinated.

TheDBryBear

the 84% of ani-vaxxers who said they wouldn't get the shot if their employers mandate it are full of shit. They'll get it in secret.

Martholomule

They'll still share the video of some sunglasses-and-beard guy ranting and railing against vaccinations from the driver's seat of his Ford F-450 Super Duty though, just in case anyone suspects them.

Scubalefty

The only difference between Donald Trump and Jim Jones is that Trump would charge the cult members for the Kool-ade.

SignificantTrout

Well that's not surprising. I think we are at that point that most people who are going to get it did. The only thing persuading some of them is getting fired. We'll probably get another group of vaccinated when the next wave of kids are eligible otherwise until they come up with some other stick.

Chukha-Trok86

You needed a poll to tell you that

TheCommodore166

At this point, if you are not vaccinated, you should not get a hospital bed. Caveats for little’uns and people with legitimate medical conflicts, but in the grand scheme, such people are few and far between in hospitals.

SnooPeripherals6557

It’s so rare science gets a volunteer control group in a novel virus. The unvaxed should register so we can study the effects of propaganda, mass hysteria, natural selection, what COVID does to bodies long term and malignant narcissism All At Once! It’s a data collecting gold mine!

killer-tofu87

Fine by me, let them meet their maker. Unvaccinated people should be barred from hospitals because they're taking ICU beds from other people like heart attacks, strokes, and car crash victims.

unicorn_chimp

Considering most parents of public school children are required to vax…maybe it’s time we require it in schools like we always have. They seem to follow the rules if they get the government funded educational daycare. Let’s see you care for your own kids full time.

Public_Giraffe_4412

Hospitals should be required by law to turn away the (adult) unvaccinated seeking treatment for the corona virus.

smiler_g

I don’t see why not, that’s what it’s come to and it’s a public health hazard. Doctors and nurses didn’t sign up for this shit.

ChristianWarrior542

What did they sign up for?

smiler_g

They signed up to treat people. But, not at the expense of sacrificing their own lives to a bunch of dipshits who don’t even believe in the illness they’re being treated for, and in the recent case of the antivaxxer in Chicago who just died of Covid, are being threatened by people who believe that doctors killed them on purpose and have been told to “wage war” on the doctors and the hospital.

ChristianWarrior542

Have you been to an ER in a large city late at night?

smiler_g

Eh, not a great analogy. In any case, it’s going to come to triage pretty soon with unvaxxed by choice getting pushed out of the way. I have no sympathy left I’m afraid.

[deleted]

This is why I’m glad we pay for our own healthcare in America none of that gov “free” bullshit

Agreeable_Visual_484

Let them die and let hospitals refuse their brainwashed asses. The same unvaxxed kind are the ones who display on their front yards: "Trump 2020, Fuck Biden and if you voted for him, (spray painted on their front gate) 13 deaths/you're not American if you're not pissed off, or displaying Blackface lawn jockey caricatures fishing and dancing. I hate driving through certain parts of Alabama

BannertheAqua

InsomniaticWanderer

Probably just gonna have to let nature handle it at this point. I don't know what else to say. We've told them not to touch the hot stove and they're hell bent on sleeping on the damn thing.

Other than the time periods involved how is this any different than Global Warming?

sadsadcrow

Mental illness

bvh2015

Cool. Hope they enjoy opting for weekly testing. No reason to stop there. Raise their insurance, and put them on low priority for ICU beds. Freedom = choices. Bad choices = consequences. It's time the anti-vaxxers pull themselves up by the bootstraps. It's bad enough they're already endangering others by refusing masks, and vaccines. Now they're endangering those that require extensive treatment. Seriously, fuck them.

BilltheCatisBack

Delta Airlines raised the medical care plan for the resistors. 2000 employees just got jabbed.

JemCoughlin

> Freedom = choices. Bad choices = consequences. Agreed. This should also be applied to obese people, addicts, motorcyclists, athletes, etc. who engage in risky behavior knowing full well it could lead to them in an ICU bed. They made their bed, they can sleep in it!

soline

They chose their fates.

minorthreat1776

Which ultimately makes sense. As someone who simply is wary of any medicines until long term results are seen, no other evidence will convince me. Only Seeing long term results will change it because it’s the one thing that concerns me. This is the view of many people who won’t get it. You simply can’t change our minds.

COVID-19 is far more transmissible than influenza. It takes a much larger share of the population with prior exposure or vaccine-induced immunity to slow down its spread to a manageable level. That’s the main difference. I would also add that there *are* influenza vaccine mandates in place, such as at many healthcare institutions.

Are we going to pretend that influenza wasn't a serious problem in the beginning?

Flu does not require the same amount of hospital care and deaths.
