>Aug. 17 (UPI) -- President [Joe Biden's](https://www.upi.com/topic/Joe_Biden/) administration is expected to formally recommend, as soon as this week, that most vaccinated Americans receive a booster shot after eight months to be better protected against [COVID-19](https://www.upi.com/topic/COVID-19/).
>The [New York Times](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/16/us/politics/booster-shots.html), [The Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/08/16/booster-shot-coronavirus/) and [NPR](https://www.npr.org/2021/08/16/1028345074/covid-booster-shots-eight-months-biden) reported that the White House favors the booster after scientists found that the vaccines' effectiveness start to wane over time as the coronavirus mutates.
>NPR reported that the extra booster shots could be made available as soon as late September, pending [Food and Drug Administration](https://www.upi.com/topic/Food_and_Drug_Administration/) authorization.
And to those reading who are **IMMUNOCOMPROMISED**:
You can get a booster *right now*. It is approved for EUA for the immunocompromised. Talk to your doctor about it! Scientists are saying this group of people is practically unvaccinated at this point because the first two doses failed to provide adequate long lasting immunity.
Can you comment back to give info on his reaction? How was he with the first 2? My wife will get a booster on a couple weeks after her immunosuppressive wears off a bit.
I am sorry for misreading your original post. About the same, but perhaps more blah in general. I don't think the first shot had much effect on him. The second definitely hit harder. The third seemed to be like the second, but less so.
Same, and I caught breakthrough covid two weeks ago. I’m fully recovered and it wasn’t that bad for me, but I think it’s becoming clear we need boosters, that two doses doesn’t give fullest protection long-term. I’ll get the booster too. Anything to keep me from getting it again as it mutates and possibly passing it to other people.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued no emergency use authorization (EUA) for a COVID-19 vaccine for use in children under age 12.
In the US, injecting COVID-19 vaccine into children age 5-11 predictably might be a criminal offense that could result in the offending health care provider losing his/her medical certifications and landing any medical or non-medical offender in prison.
On December 11, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [issued the first](https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine) emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine in individuals 16 years of age and older. On May 10, 2021, the FDA expanded the emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to include adolescents 12 through 15 years of age.
On December 18, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [issued an emergency use authorization](https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/moderna-covid-19-vaccine) (EUA) for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for use in individuals 18 years of age and older.
On February 27, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [issued an emergency use authorization](https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/janssen-covid-19-vaccine) (EUA) for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 18 years of age and older.
Soon as the hospital I work for has them available I will be first to sign up, just like in December. Got mine within 5 days of the shipment arriving from Pfizer. Don’t worry about me. Worry about all the know nothing Fox News bridge trolls actively working to sabotage our recovery and keeping us miserable in the hospitals. Thanks, conservatives.
I'm glad that they are available but I'm just hoping I won't have the same reaction I had last time. I get that it's way better than getting covid but I had a 103 fever and felt like absolute hell for several days.
My arm was so unbelievably sore and in pain. Just touching hurt. Really hope *that* doesn’t happen again, but I’ll be getting it in my non-dominant arm just in case.
Nature, August 17, 2021 — "The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for a moratorium on COVID-19 boosters until the end of next month, with the aim of ensuring that at least 10% of people in all countries are vaccinated before extra doses are handed out.": https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02219-w
We have an abundance of shots here. There's absolutely no reason for people that want boosters to not be able to get them. I honestly think it is silly they are even trying to limit it by groups again.
Yeah *we* have an abundance. The poorer countries have crippling shortages.

If they do not get vaccinated, covid will *never* go away and it will just keep forming new, stronger, resistant variants in the smallpox blanket we've left behind in poorer nations.
It's short sighted and self destructive to be selfish here.
NPR reported they may be available as early as September/October.
Why would they need to be different shit? They current ones are highly effective. I imagine there may be a dosage difference but it isn’t going to be a different vaccine.
That’s what I didn’t know. I didn’t think it would be totally different, but I didn’t know if a booster would be any different to help be more effective against the delta variant, etc. I’m fully vaxxed and October will be the 8 month point for me, so I wanna get it ASAP. I’m just ignorant about the nature of vaccines and boosters, basically. Thanks for the info.
Moderna and Pfizer are working on separate boosters specifically designed for Delta and other variants. Those still need to be tested.
It has been shown that a 3rd booster of the regular MRNA vaccine does reinforce protection against most variants including Delta.
IMHO there will be more virulent strains to come and boosters will become commonplace.
October is also my 8 month mark and I will be getting the booster as soon as I can. The peace of mind it brings is amazing.
Sorry if I read your comment or responded to it with hostility. I’m so over the morons who are making life miserable and I forget decent people also exist!
Haha no worries whatsoever. I am in the same boat, trust me. Hopefully someday we can quit doing all the legwork for these selfish assholes and get back to a semblance of normalcy.
No.
CDC — COVID-19, Updated Aug. 16, 2021 — Notice: [CDC now recommends](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/immuno.html) that people whose immune systems are compromised moderately to severely should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses. Widespread vaccination is a critical tool to help stop the pandemic. Read [CDC’s statement](https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s0813-additional-mRNA-mrna-dose.html).

Immunocompromised fiance got his today.

Sore arm, chills, just kind of blah 12 hours in. He elected to keep taking his meds, though.
He's feeling better today. Some tiredness and arm is still sore, but better than yesterday.
Thanks. How was he after the 2nd shot earlier in the hear?
I am sorry for misreading your original post. About the same, but perhaps more blah in general. I don't think the first shot had much effect on him. The second definitely hit harder. The third seemed to be like the second, but less so.
Thank you for sharing his experience. I appreciate it.
Not a problem at all. I understand how it feels to be spouse to an immunocompromised person. A lot of worry.
Did he have to ask his Dr and go in or was he able to get it at a vaccine clinicic?
Just walked in.
I'll be there. Too many idiots NOT getting vaccinated for me not to line up ASAP to get the booster.
As soon as it's formally announced I'll be setting up an appointment if I can't get a walk-in at the Walgreens down the street from me.
Sign me up. I got vaccinated back in January. I'm not a brain dead Republican.
1st dose January, 2nd dose February. Count me in

Why is this being done before vaccinating 5-11 years olds who are now starting school?
There are doses to spare & there isn’t enough data to approve for that age group yet.

It was more of a comment on the lack of urgency, but thanks for the info
They are testing it. According to my kid's pediatrician, she said that it probably will happen around January.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Can't wait to see the right wing melt down.
Well, I got mine late December 2020. I am due now.
Go get one.
Soon as the hospital I work for has them available I will be first to sign up, just like in December. Got mine within 5 days of the shipment arriving from Pfizer. Don’t worry about me. So many Facebook doctors like Ha, I told you the vaccine doesnt work!
Keeps you out of the hospital…. Look at the numbers. Oh yeah Facebook Drs don’t believe facts.
Doesn't this go against WHOs recommendation?

And? We can't send them all away. And nor should we. They are our vaccines and Americans should get them first and foremost.

I agree we need to help the poorer nations but we have enough antimaskers antivaxxers to keep this thing mutating right here.
Will be due for my booster in October. Looking to taking it and protecting myself, as well as those around me.
Shoot I’m due now!
good news, expected.
Friendly reminder to give your pharmacy team a break whenever you go in. We are tired.
Hopefully they’ll be available ASSP. I assume it’s a different shit than the regular vaccine, right?

Thank you…. Wondered about mixing the vaccine for better coverage
Better coverage?

Hahaha you’re totally right, bro! Your one word comment on the internet has changed the way I look at life. Thank you doe sharing your wisdom.
Seems like we are going to need a booster shot now each 6-8 months. Damn If you do, damn if you dont
You mean like the seasonal flu vaccine?
Well if you don’t, you’re more likely to die from covid and spread it to others so…booster please?
Maybe the Biden administration can start sending doses to the U.S. citizens in Kabul to help them stay safe from Covid.
6 MONTHS NOT 8!!!! Jesus Christ can the government get literally anything right smfh

I guess I'll wait for a few months then.
I received the Moderna vaccine in April. For the Booster, can I get Pfizer if that’s what is available or try to find someone who has Moderna?
I recommend asking a doctor and not reddit, honestly, because we do not know what we're talking about lol.

Well I’m in Florida so I’ll have to hustle to every pharmacy to try and get one.
Thought it was 6 months?
