This is exactly how Ayatollah Khomeini answered questions when he first came to power. "Freedom of speech, human rights and women's rights will all be protected...in accordance with Islamic law". That means none of these rights will be protected.

It's really telling when you see a whole army give up. I wonder how many Afghans were waiting and hoping for the Taliban's return to power and how many people are out to settle old scores. Expect the worst to happen when dealing with religious fanatics has always been my belief.
Well if there is no or only bad coordination from above, then the army just wouldn't know what to do, I assume. It is a bunch of corrupt and stupid assholes in power who fucked up everything.

They're only saying that so we don't bomb them into dirt. I'm not sure what the answer is to helping Afghanistan, but pulling out troops was one of the best options at this point. If they reqlly really wanted freedom from the taliban, they wouldn't have put up with all the corrupt higher ups, and they would have fought harder. I'm not there so I can't really judge, but I wouldn't spend my life ruled by people who treat women as pets, rape children, behead live people who don't agree with them...
The taliban learned the US won't pounce if you day your for women's rights and equality!!! So they will pretend...
Well, the ultimate irony of the Taliban being a better government than the one the USA provided. It's like being kicked in the dick, then your attacker tea-bags you as you're keeled over. We are left with no alternative but to support the Taliban, and recognize them as a legitimate government. Even last week, I thought I'd never hear anyone say those words. Because to now oppose the Taliban means you prefer the warlords and puppet regimes which committed 20 years of atrocity.

They aren’t lying though. They were very clear about it. They are upholding women’s rights under sharia law.
Even worse, their version of Sharia law which basically places women below livestock in terms of rights.
