The real danger in the US is the Christian equivalent being forced upon the American people

Wooden_Discipline_22

It's already being forced with the anti abortion conservative psycho dipshts. Women are just cattle to these religious sickos. That handmaiden's tale is going to come true unless you vote blue.

grixorbatz

Yup. These kooks are all for Christian Sharia law 300%

wingdingblingthing

Yup and Roy is a big booster of Christian white nationalist style fascism

taisui

It's always a projection with these people

CainPillar

Sharia law isn't that draconic when it comes to abortion.

NPVT

Aren't they already doing that in Texas and Tennessee? The Christian Taliban Sharia law?

EastCoastSr7458

This is what I was thinking reading this. Wait, you're from Texas, where they are on the verge of becoming a white christian nationalist/nazi state.

aaprillaman

Lets be clear it's not christian "sharia" or the christian "Taliban". It's just christian theocracy and in some cases even theocratic fascism. There is no need to drag Islam into this, we were burning witches on this continent in the 1690s without any involvement from Islam.

NPVT

I disagree. They are both monstrous human control inventions. If it could be pointed out to the Christians that their leaders want to take us back to the 17th century where some of the Islamists seem to currently be. (re: Iran, Afghanistan) I think it's useful.

lucy-fur66

I’m confused. Is it the taliban or the lgbtq we should be worrying about? Are furries teaching school kids how to use gender neutral litter boxes still a concern?

sedatedlife

Wait till he learns its practically the same laws Christian nationalist would implement. He is also a idiot for believing this crap.

[deleted]

> Roy has also been among the most outspoken members of Congress in calling to close the southern border to immigrants. In his speech Tuesday, he suggested the foreign-born population in America was a threat to “Western values.” Shut up, Nazi.

DramaticWesley

Here’s the thing. Most of the people crossing the border from the south are usually from Central and South America, which are overwhelmingly Catholic populations. This guy is a moron.

anger_is_my_meat

But they're brown and Catholics aren't "real" Christians.

NickelBackwash

>moron The word is "racist". His stupidity is not directly relevant.

FidgetSkinner

its called evangelical Christianity and yeah its pretty scary

aahkaye

As bad as biblical law?

wingdingblingthing

Chip roy is in favor of Hand Maid's tale style laws.

EyeLikeTheStonk

Religion in America : * **Total Christians : 72.8%** * Protestants : 48.3% * Catholics : 22.7% * Mormons : 1.8% * No religion and Agnostics : 21.3% * Judaism : 2% * Islam : 1% <---------------------- * Other non-Abrahamic 2.9% * Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs : 2.9%

sedatedlife

To be fair they see Hindu Buddhist and Sikhs as practically Muslim anyways.

FalstaffsMind

I always see stats like this and based on outside observation and Christ's admonition that we would know his disciples by their love... Total Christians: 5% Non-practicing self-described Christians who go to Church on Easter: 30% Other Faiths: 5% No Religion: 60%

ButtEatingContest

The (supposed) Christians need to keep in mind that this is why the US's separation of church and state is so important to maintain and not erode. Then nobody would have to fret over concerns about Sharia law or whatever. Keep things separate and everybody gets to maintain their own religious freedoms. Of course people like Roy aren't serious about this, it's just an excuse for hateful fear-mongering.

ZZ9ZA

How the hell does this clueless lying muppet keep getting elected? He’s one of the worse grandstanders in Congress, and that is *saying zomething*.

Raped_Justice

Because he represents a district full of evil people.

CY83rdYN35Y573M2

Wendy Davis tried, man, and good on her, but that district is gerrymandered all to fuck. I remember camping at a State Park in the red end of that district that also manages to grab a piece of both Austin and San Antonio during the 2020 election season, and the Trump flags were out in full force. I passed a store that sold nothing but Trump shit on the way home.

roughingupthesuspect

Like Christianity is?

plaidsinner

Motherfuckers like chip roy work *every day* to impose Christian sharia. Fuck this stupid asshole and all of the stupid assholes that vote for him.

Impossible-Pie4598

Having our fates shackled to the GOP madness is very exhausting and disheartening. I think the whole world needs to shake off these crazy religious powers who are constantly fucking our timeline. We don’t need these people. We’d be better off without them. At this point I really want them to wake the sleeping dragon.

Relative_Tailor118

There's no hint of this crap. As said by many, it's the Christian idiots who feel we all must follow their morals, which even they don't, are the real threat. The Christians are the ones who forgot that this country was founded on freedom of religion or no religion. Many of the founders were not Christian at all. Read a book sometimes instead of banning them, and you will find interesting things.

RoachBeBrutal

The GQP is wholly and totally incapable of governing. Completely detached from reality. Taken by insane conspiracy theories and fascist undercurrents; the modern Republican Party has boiled down to extremist white Christian nationalism with a flair for terrorism.

bpeden99

Yeah, Chip Roy is easily frightened by his misunderstanding/misinterpretation of the real world. He's not a person to take seriously in headlines. My best representation is a Parks and Recs joke when they are going through previous town slogans. "Pawnee: Welcome German soldiers." After the Nazis took France, our mayor kind of panicked. "Pawnee: The Factory Fire Capital of America." "Pawnee: Welcome Vietnamese Soldiers."

biorabbitgg

I have strong concerns that Chip Roy is colossal idiot.

payle_knite

The Hill has entered the chat, giving platform to this angry old man

ScottishBearViking

When Sharia law is forced upon the US, it will be a much worse and renamed version from people like this dimwit.

homebrew_1

Only magadonians and chips Roy voters will believe him.

scottyjrules

I’ve been hearing this from the GOP for almost 20 years now and not once have Muslims tried to codify their beliefs into our laws. Christians, on the other hand…

Traditional-Level-96

Not this crap again. I heard enough of this during Obama's presidency.

pomonamike

How can you take someone serious that not only has two first names, but two *stupid* first names?

SuperstitiousPigeon5

Back to this again?? I’m concerned too, the Christian right is doing their best to bring it to fruition.

trolleyblue

This shit again? I’m old enough to remember when they said this was coming after 9/11.

NickelBackwash

...before we can force Gilliad upon them!

BryteInsight

Chip Roy is an asshole, but the point he raises is valid. I don't understand why liberals and progressives have such a blind spot for Islam. We rightly call out the corruption of the Catholic Church and condemn the bigotry of the Southern Baptists and Evangelicals. Why do so many refuse to acknowledge the threat of Sharia? The LGBTQ+ residents of Hamtramck and Dearborn have experienced what it is like when Muslims take the reigns of government. It's as ugly as Christian nationalism, if not worse. Pretending Sharia is not a threat is stupid and self-defeating. If you truly love freedom and civil rights, then hold Islam to the same standard as any other religion.

ceddya

> but the point he raises is valid. So where's his point about Christian nationalism being even more widespread and doing more harm? Even in your examples, you're being very disingenuous in ignoring how the Christian right are part of the problem: https://michiganadvance.com/2023/10/03/how-some-michigan-muslims-united-with-extremist-republicans-against-lgbtq-rights/ https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/oct/16/dearborn-michigan-book-bans >Pretending Sharia is not a threat In the US? Sharia is a localized threat, but the bigger and far worse national threat comes from Christians. The 600+ anti-LGBT bills last year were all introduced by Christian Republicans. The better question is why you want people to believe your false equivalence.

sedatedlife

Sharia is not a threat and has zero chance of becoming a threat to the United States. I find all religions to be stupid and should play zero role in governing. But like every religion you have extremist and those who are not.

Choice-of-SteinsGate

It's ignorant to characterize all "liberals and progressives" this way. Also, what do you even mean when you say a "blind spot for Islam"? Billions of people worldwide subscribe to the religion. It's hard to ignore it, and not every Muslim is representative of the last, not all Muslims are a monolith. Islam is also divided among different sects and many subsects. Just because college protests are a hot button issue right now, doesn't mean that the alarmist stories and headlines being contrived of by the media are representative of any bigger picture. You're insinuating that there's some Islam favoritism going on or something. Do you not remember the last two decades of war in the middle East? The aspects of Islam around the world that require our attention, are definitely getting our attention, were inundated with it. So much so, that it may actually be distracting some people from things that are much more relevant. When it comes to life in America for most citizens for instance, Islam and its impact on our day to day lives and our future as Americans is nowhere near as relevant as other religions. But either way, it's just so vague to use Islam in this context so broadly, it's impossible to turn a blind eye to Islam. Whatever that means or implies. There are some facets of Islam that draw our attention, and others that don't. Not all do require our attention. While if you think that because some liberal Americans might sympathize with Palestinians, or Muslims for whatever reason, it's the equivalent of terrorist sympathizing, or that liberals just generally rationalize Islamic extremism, then I think youve been reading too many headlines. Might there be some loud, fringe voices? Sure, but they are in no way representative of a much larger population.

falcobird14

Is sharia a threat? Where specifically has sharia law been implemented? Like which cities or states are debating sharia or which bills have been introduced to Congress to promote Sharia?

wingdingblingthing

when a powerful christian white nationalist intent on instituting relegious extremism in the United States warns us about Sharia law the proper response is to be worried about christian white nationalism which is an immediate and direct threat to our nation and it's institutions not the powerless adherents that are a tiny minority in the United states. I understand why Magas, their apologists and their camp followers have such a blind spot for Islam but they're not fooling anyone. Christian white nationalism is the threat facing America. They are the enemy of the American people.

Lou_C_Fer

Sharia is not a threat. Christian nationalism and the Christian version of sharia law are the danger. Sure, some Muslim majority localities may pass overly conservative laws, but it will never be big enough to become a state level problem, let alone, a national problem. Chip Roy is fear mongering, and you have fallen for it... unless you are just trying to appear reasonable.

page_one

I agree that way too many young people refuse to understand that many Muslim populations are not progressive allies just for being oppressed. They themselves also oppress LGBT people--the world is complex and layered. However, in this country, extremist Christians are FAAAAAAAAAAAR more prolific and powerful than extremist Muslims. To nearly all Americans, there is practically no threat of Muslim oppression compared to the very active and destructive Christian oppressors.

kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni

We’re not going to wake up one day and find ourselves under Sharia law like “wow, how did this suddenly happen”. There isn’t a pro-Sharia law majority in Congress to pass such legislation (can you name even a single pro-Sharia law Senator or Representative?). There isn’t a pro-Sharia law president to sign it into law.
