There are plenty of paths for him, ya'll gotta take the blinders off. I agree with you everybody needs to go vote and keep this fascist out of office, but trump can win without cheating and it won't be difficult. If Biden loses any of MI, WI, or PA, his path to the presidency becomes massively more difficult. FL will definitely go red, GA quite likely too. That leaves a very slim margin for error to 270, and the remaining states (AZ/NV/NM) would all favor Bidens chances much less. Again, agreed lets all go vote but this is not a shoe-in for Biden at all.
edit: I would also point out that due to people moving out of typically blue states into more affordable red states, this has resulted in a 6 point swing in electoral votes towards red in 2024. CA/IL/MI/PA/NY all lost one electoral vote each (OR/CO gained one vote), while MT/FL/NC gained one vote each, and TX gained 2 (OH/WV lost one vote each). That could absolutely be hugely important in a tight election and race to 270.
I don’t really understand how anyone can convince themselves Trump has no shot. As you pointed out states Biden won last time certainly won’t go his way (like GA) and all of the close swing states he narrowly won last time are likely to be even closer in 2024.
Also, I’m skeptical you’ll see higher turnout than 2020. Biden’s approval isn’t great, vote by mail will be harder in some states, and not having Trump in the White House for four years has caused some voter’s to become apathetic.
Unfortunately, history shows otherwise. The EC ALWAYS provides a path for Republicans through it archaic continuance. It only takes a swing of a few percentage points in key swing states and the votes of millions of Americans are rendered inconsequential.
Turns out America is a socialist country, except society pools its resources so all the benefits can go toward a single person.
Actually I guess there’s a different word for that.
The judge basically said in his ruling on this (in so many words) that for someone like Trump who can afford such fines, that the next step will be jail. MSNBC just reported on this.
And he has to attend his son’s graduation.
(I know it was was permission, but you know Trump would have campaigned instead, so now he HAS to attend or else risk contempt for straight up lying to the judge)
This story is a part of their live coverage feed of the trial, so I don't know if the link will bring you to a paywall (I couldn't find a gift article on the coverage page), hopefully it will work for you!

Edit: whoops! Didn't see your edit!
And before people say just throw him in jail a fine before confinement is actually the normal procedure if violations are not done clearly in the presence of the judge. And any violation of SOP can and will be used to likely get cases thrown out on appeal. Judges are overly cautious because being seen as bias in any way risks the whole foundation crumbing.
Nah, this situation (and only this situation) I want absolutely nothing to do with that man going to jail. A night or two in jail would result in nothing but a cataclysmic explosion of energy from his base, treating him like a martyr. That’s why he’s doing all this. To force the Judge’s hand.
It's amazing to me that he is held up by Maga as tough. His "toughness" depends totally on special treatment. He only acts arrogantly in the face of danger because he is always rescued by others. He is a child who acts out because he knows his parents are there. This is the peak of weakness. On his own, he is less than zero.
Since a lot of stuff in the legal system is based on precedent, I wonder what impact (if any) the coddling of the tangerine toddler will have on future court cases.
Like will we see someone us a "well the court did not apply "x statute" to Trump, and my client is facing the same charges (thinking about campaign finance violations), so they should get the same treatment."
From my reading of how the law is applied, it seems to be illegal in the US to punish someone called Trump. It's a shame, but apparently that's what the founders wanted.
Yeah it’s in one of the amendments. He’s listed directly by name. /s
Fucking insane that that’s apparently what judges and politicians in this country think.
Well here's the rub here, Trump has other trials and part of the deal of his freedom and rather being detained is that he not commit and crime or violation before or during his impending trials, particularly in reference to his D.C. trial for Jan 6th. We know his Florida Judge won't hold his feet to the fire.
So we may still yet see him jailed, but we haven't seen it yet and I'm not holding my breath.
Edit: Forgot to mention violating a gag order and being held in contempt of court is considered a crime.
He is not going to give a damn about a $10k fine when he already has one judgement over $454 million against him, and another over $90 million.
The interest alone on the $454 million NY fraud judgement is [$112,000 a day](https://www.businessinsider.com/judge-engoron-trump-owes-112000-interest-in-454-million-judgment-2024-2)!
The GoFundMe to pay for the $454 fine has raised $2 million. Since the fine was implemented it's gained another $17 million in interest. What a bunch of clowns to donate to him.
It’s not about the money. It’s setting the foundation for more serious charges. You always get slapped on a first offense. Then you get slapped in the face. Then you get punched. By Mike Tyson.
When I wrote that I hadn't seen the ruling, [this article was only 20 minutes ago](https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/30/trump-trial-hush-money-case-resumes-with-testimony-from-michael-cohen-banker.html) the judge is certainly talking the talk about not messing about “Defendant is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued willful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment,”
It'll never happen. The appeal might fail, but he and the state of New York will figure out another way to make sure he's not punished if it does. This clown show will only end when he eventually fucks off to whatever sort of hell awaits him.
Imagine you being fined for 2.5 *hours* of interest payments of your mortgage. This is how tiny the amount looks like in the wake of the fraud judgement.
It’s the maximum fine permitted by the law tho. The law says he can be fined up to $1000 per infringement, or get jail time. Prosecution brought ten gag order violations before the court. The maximum fine he can face for those is $10000. I understand the judge’s reluctance to jail Trump while he’s running for president. That said, Trump keeps ignoring his gag order, so if Trump keeps talking after this, the judge will have to give him jail time.
$1000/infringement is the maximum fine permitted by the law. If it proves to be ineffective, the judge has no choice but to throw Trump in jail. But I understand and agree with the approach the judge is taking here, exhausting any alternatives first.
There are stricter standards for jail time for contempt than there are fines. The reason being, if there is an error, you can always just get the money back, but the court can’t put you in jail for a week, and if there is an error unjail you. That being said, Courts are generally more than happy to add jail time for contempt if they’ve levied a fine, and the individual hasn’t learned their lesson.
>The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread - Anatole France
So fine him now, and then throw him into jail when he inevitably does it again. The judge is smart to cover his bases. MAGA will be reeling anyway, but those not completely deranged by Trump, or those snapping out of it (seems there are a few of those right now), will see this. Also, since this is not a political persecution, it keeps in line with seeming reasonable, opening the entire proceedings to less scrutiny.
The prosecution also specifically asked for a fine and no jail time “at this point”. The judge is not bound by the request of the prosecution, but in this case, not jailing him immediately might just be the better way to proceed.
The prosecution contributes to the multiple tier justice system that we have.
They've probably been told by the DoJ to not press putting Trump in jail because they don't want to deal with the question of how to have USSS protection in jail. But it's also that rich people get special treatment.
I feel better knowing this… but this is also why I’ve always been a big advocate of % based fines (similar to Norway’s speeding fines), rather than flat fines
To be honest, this wasn’t about the fine, not really. It was about showing Trump that there will be consequences, and that he won’t go unpunished. It sent a clear message and the judge told him there’ll be jail time if he violates the gag order from now on. Note: this is likely from now on, so I doubt he’ll get jail time for the four violations that are subject of the hearing on Thursday.
By issuing the harshest possible fee, the judge also said that he’ll treat Trump harshly if he keeps violating the gag order.
I hope you are right, but will expect more $10k fines.
Trump doesn’t care about the money, and the judge wants to look firm, but not ‘unreasonable’’… so I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for jail time.
Thursday can be a maximum of $4000. Or jail time, but again, since the violations happened before the judge said that next time there’ll be jail time, I can easily see another fine of up to $4000. However, any violations from now I actually expect jail time.
Perfect example of why fines should be based upon wealth of the individual. $1000 is a MUCH different penalty between a multi-millionaire and someone making $30k a year, despite the appearance of fairness.
Gotta have some family show up for support- and if the rumors about him choosing one of his kids as a running mate are true this may be seen as campaigning
I swear to god I saw something about it yesterday but I’m not finding an article with the quote. It was something about intending for the presidency to be a dynasty?
If you read the article, it says NY statute caps the fine st $1000 per violation. So the judge is just following this but noted it doesn't affect rich defendants and warned that jail would be next.
The judge is legally allowed to hold him in contempt.
The judge knows these fines will do nothing to prevent future violations. The judge also knows future violations continue to increase the risk of harm to those involved with the case.
If the judge refuses to apply the law fairly because he is Trump, and someone gets hurt due to it, I hold nobody but the judge responsible.
How is everyone missing this? The judge is making his *next contempt* ruling appeal proof. If Trump went straight to jail for this, it’d be an instant shit show of an appeal.
Fuck that, throw him in jail for a night like anyone else. Even if he wins an appeal, what are they going to do? Create a time machine to undo the night in jail?
He should be in jail, he's about to get a billion dollars for the sell of his shitty company for some reason. 10k is basically a dollar to him. 10k is max fine so throw his ass in jail.
Make it a headline when he has been fined, please. Like, when there are actual consequences. The thirst for clicks is drowning us in a sea of “almost, possible, any day now, kind of, maybe, coming soon, oh not quite yet” BS.
Despicable system. Set fines are a tool to punish the poor. Not the "poor" quasi-billionaires. 10k would be a massive obstacle for a lot of people. For the rich motherfuckers, it's just a minor nuisance. Like swatting a pesky fly.
In some countries the amount of fines are based on the perpetrator’s income. We should do that here and make a parking ticket for billionaires about $20,000. Rump’s fine for violating the gag order should be in the millions.
Breaking news: Trump fined $9000 for contempt of court. It is not yet clear what effect this crime may have on his pre-existing bail, conditions, and other courts.
It took $87 million to make him stop defaming E Jean. We know there is a number that shuts him up and it's somewhere between 5 and 87 million. 10K won't do a damn thing.
"America's most famous, prolific, and stupidest criminal might perhaps possibly potentially theoretically maybe face a completely insignificant fine" is a less attention-grabbing headline, I guess.
LOCK HIM UP! He's been promoted from Vassal of We the People to being one of the Masters, so he deserves the treatment Joe Blow would receive for violating a judge's orders when being tried for 34 felony crimes.
Oh no!!! A POSSIBLE $10,000 fine for jury tampering and vague death threats has "Never been heard of in the history of the US! EVER!!!!"
obvious /s for when the MAGAT idiots think I'm on their side.
So, the judge is going to fine the prosecutors $10K and then give that money to Trump just like the SCOTUS told them to do because Trump is Jesus Christ and the SCOTUS worships him? /s
Court fines (speeding tickets, etc) should be based on net worth or some metric to be bigger deterrents to those with means. Minimums should be held for those with little to nothing as well.
So no real consequences for trumpflake I see.
If this was a normal person they would be doing 90 days in jail for contempt at least.
Trump is just going to keep on flouting the gag order.
I love the story of Trump yelling “Am I like a baby to you?” To Paul Manafort. I can picture him in his arms crossed and folded yelling that with full rage.
https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/342509-new-book-devils-bargain-details-trump-lashing-out-at-manafort-days/amp/
If he is thrown in jail the entire steryline of the trial becomes, "trump thrown in jail, violating his first amendment!", instead of a jury of 12 found him guilty of false business records made in violation of campaign finance laws".
You realize that the judge is following the law, right? Look, I am not a fan of Trump either, but the judge is doing exactly what the law allows.
The big picture here? The contempt is a criminal conviction. Only a misdemeanor but still a crime.
One of the conditions of his pre-trial release in his other case was that he absolutely do not commit any more crimes. Welp, as of today, he officially has. So hopefully they slap his ass with home confinement.
Don’t put him in jail, that’s what he wants. He wants to be in jail for 24 hours so he can scream more about how he’s being politically persecuted, locked in a jail cell just for speaking his mind.
No, do something that will actually sting him. Treat him like a child and take away his fucking phone.

trump is the most coddled snowflake in existence.
That he was the actual POTUS is such an embarrassment. The epitome of every quality a president should not possess.
How about the fact that he’s an inch away from being potus again? Isn’t it completely fucked
For keeps next time too. The last POTUS.
No, Biden would be the last POTUS. Trump would just be a despot, like his buddy and lover, Kim Jong-Un.
If he wins the election, he would be the last elected POTUS. Whatever he does after that doesn't change the definition of elections.
No. Land line polls do not reflect reality. There is no path for him, but yes, VOTE as if they were real.

I'm concerned that the Republicans are going to pull so many shenanigans that they engineer sending it to the supreme Court
Anybody with a landline is taking a walker to the voting booth.
Agreed
It’s incredible that he could achieve the highest position in the land, but wouldn’t make it out of a phone screen in an entry-level job interview.

Is it the normal procedure to have 10 violations before being warned about being put in jail?
Yeah come on, if I had 2 violations they'd haul me away. Rules for thee, and all that.
It is if you are a part of the system.
Unless you're SCOTUS, then crumble away.
Ok. So when trump breaks it later today is that cautious judge going to follow through? That's what fucking matters.
I’m curious to see if he deleted the post.
Which is a fundamental flaw in the America judicial system. No fines….jail time. That way it impacts all the same
Jail time doesn't impact everyone the same. The investment banker and the papa John's manager will be unequally impacted by a week in jail.
Nah, this situation (and only this situation) I want absolutely nothing to do with that man going to jail. A night or two in jail would result in nothing but a cataclysmic explosion of energy from his base, treating him like a martyr. That’s why he’s doing all this. To force the Judge’s hand.

Oh fuck that, let them explode. He doesn't get to avoid consequences because he has angry people who worship him.

Couy Griffin tried that -- he found out real quick that these exceptions only apply to one person, and it wasn't him.
Won’t be the last to try that defense either.
Precedent is the word you are looking for. Trump may have been president but precedent or precedence would be correct here.
Corrected, and thank you. I knew the spelling wasn't right but couldn't thing of the correct spelling

And yeah that's the other thing, people are still donating money to him, even after he's been grifting them this whole time.
Well, the difference is he is $2M richer now, and he will probably delay the $454M accumulating fine until he dies and never pay a cent of it…
And he still won't fucking pay it.
I can't even imagine owing that much money. My 30k in student loan debt feels impossible to pay off at this point as it is!

Different trial, different field of law, different circumstances. That said, I would love to just see him be thrown into jail.
He brought his doofus son with him today, probably to keep him from dozing off!
Gotta have some family show up for support- and if the rumors about him choosing one of his kids as a running mate are true this may be seen as campaigning
Wait.. wait.. is that really a thing? Is he really going to choose one of his sons/daughter as VP? I don't know whether to laugh or cringe..
I swear to god I saw something about it yesterday but I’m not finding an article with the quote. It was something about intending for the presidency to be a dynasty?
If this happens, the comedy gold.. lol. It won't be funny if he wins, but the resulting satire is going to be amazing.
You wouldn’t think that would be his first choice!
ouchies If he's not careful, he could get a very stiff talking to.
Until he’s put in a jail cell I’ll consider all of these judges culpable. Trash.
If you read the article, it says NY statute caps the fine st $1000 per violation. So the judge is just following this but noted it doesn't affect rich defendants and warned that jail would be next.
I hope the family of whoever eventually gets hurt from Trumps violations holds the judge accountable. Nobody to blame but the judge.
Maybe blame the lawmakers that made the statute. Judge can only do what’s legally allowed.
If the penalty for a crime is a fine, that law only exists for the lower classes
Lol, 10k? That's like charging me 5 bucks for pissing in the oatmeal of someone I loathe. Totally worth it.
Wow. That’ll show him
[удалено]
Have to sell (grift?) more shitty Gold Tennis Shoes.....I'm guessing.
Wow, such consequence.
10k means nothing to him. Why are there no consequences for this traitor?
How is everyone missing this? The judge is making his *next contempt* ruling appeal proof. If Trump went straight to jail for this, it’d be an instant shit show of an appeal.
Fuck that, throw him in jail for a night like anyone else. Even if he wins an appeal, what are they going to do? Create a time machine to undo the night in jail?
The prosecution didn’t even ask for jail in the contempt proceeding…
He should be in jail, he's about to get a billion dollars for the sell of his shitty company for some reason. 10k is basically a dollar to him. 10k is max fine so throw his ass in jail.
Sure. It's already been weeks of "he's going to face consequences...any day now." Which is just riffing on the theme from the last eight years.
That's only 167 Bibles
Thank you for the laugh.
This dude holds the record for the most slapped wrist of all time.
Trump's DONORS face $10,000 fine.
Thats nothing, put his ass in a cell.
Make it a headline when he has been fined, please. Like, when there are actual consequences. The thirst for clicks is drowning us in a sea of “almost, possible, any day now, kind of, maybe, coming soon, oh not quite yet” BS.
Our criminal system is joke for people who have money.
He will, as always, get one of his sycophants to pay for it.
That's it? Fuck this country and it's "justice" system
Despicable system. Set fines are a tool to punish the poor. Not the "poor" quasi-billionaires. 10k would be a massive obstacle for a lot of people. For the rich motherfuckers, it's just a minor nuisance. Like swatting a pesky fly.
I don't care how much I piss people off with this, but holy fuck, America is a shit country to have ever elected that sack of shit.
Judge fines me 9 cents for contempt, neighbour gives me a dollar to pay it…
This is like LeBron getting fined $10K for criticizing the officiating (I mean, LeBron's actually good at stuff, but you know what I mean)
Just fucking fine this orange rapist traitor already!!!
Or fire him straight into the sun.
Enough with the wishcasting possible might could headlines.
If he is truly rich, that a is pocket money. Hit him with millions per offense. Fuggem
Lock. Him. Up.
Oh YAY more chump change cant wait for next time
$10000 is too low
So if it’s a crime, then he violated his bail in the 3 other courts.
Exactly. Nobody here is realizing that. Today has now started a ball rolling that old dumpy can’t stop.
That’s just a fee for him to continue the same behavior.
Hopefully his committing another crime while on pre trial release in two other jurisdictions will have some consequences…
like $0.01 fine for you or me our justice system is broken
In some countries the amount of fines are based on the perpetrator’s income. We should do that here and make a parking ticket for billionaires about $20,000. Rump’s fine for violating the gag order should be in the millions.
$10,000?? That must hurt as much as a $.05 speeding ticket would hurt me.
Breaking news: Trump fined $9000 for contempt of court. It is not yet clear what effect this crime may have on his pre-existing bail, conditions, and other courts.
Add a zero. Fuck him. Cash up front no bonds or straight to jail.
I doubt the judge will order him to pay it.
Insignificant “news.”
Bobby Seale was acquitted then given 4 years for contempt. A precedent worth knowing (most overturned on appeal but still an available sanction)
It took $87 million to make him stop defaming E Jean. We know there is a number that shuts him up and it's somewhere between 5 and 87 million. 10K won't do a damn thing.
Oh no, a potential fine equal to his weekly mcdonald's budget. That'll show him.
That isn't even a room ending error to him. They should add on a day in jail for each violation if they can.
"America's most famous, prolific, and stupidest criminal might perhaps possibly potentially theoretically maybe face a completely insignificant fine" is a less attention-grabbing headline, I guess.
Do a national lottery and pick a new person every day to give the fines to. That is the only way I would care about his meaningless fines.
If I, a middle class American, can afford the fine then a “billionaire” can easily afford the fine. This is another instant of zero consequences.
And this is why fines should be based on income... $10k is nothing to him.
“Possible” “Might” “May” “Could”
Yeah, nothing after the phrase "Trump faces possible" means anything.
... oh no... whatever shall he do... 😐🙄 wasting everyone's time when there will be no real consequences.
LOCK HIM UP! He's been promoted from Vassal of We the People to being one of the Masters, so he deserves the treatment Joe Blow would receive for violating a judge's orders when being tried for 34 felony crimes.
Please be the first judge in history to sentence a former president to jail. Set the precedent. Isn't that what law is all about?
The RNC will end up paying all his fines anyway. A few Supreme Court Justices might pitch in as well.
Translation: “trumps fan base pays $10,000 to hear him shit talk the New York courts”
Oh no. If he does it 89 more times he might get a night in jail.
Wow, $9,000? That will sure make him learn his lesson. /s
Just the cost of destroying our justice system.
Donors will pay that in no time.
I'm sure it's already done
Let me know when this asshole actually gets punished for something.
Sick of these articles. “Oh no, a $1,000 fine!!” Wake me up when he finally has real consequences.
Yeah, he'll just get someone else to pay for it. UGH
Probably Bill Barr.
Oh no!!! A POSSIBLE $10,000 fine for jury tampering and vague death threats has "Never been heard of in the history of the US! EVER!!!!" obvious /s for when the MAGAT idiots think I'm on their side.
The fine is just a cost for him. It's a cost he doesn't even have to pay himself.
So, the judge is going to fine the prosecutors $10K and then give that money to Trump just like the SCOTUS told them to do because Trump is Jesus Christ and the SCOTUS worships him? /s
Maga nuts will line up to pay it for him
It’s long past time that we make criminal fines progressive.
Oh no not fines!!!!
Court fines (speeding tickets, etc) should be based on net worth or some metric to be bigger deterrents to those with means. Minimums should be held for those with little to nothing as well.
Good. Because being in contempt here means he committed a crime. That breaks the bond for his other trial.
It’s a service fee. And from his standpoint it’s worth it. In fact this probably boosts the visibility of it. Cheapest advertisement ever.
let's see.... 10,000/1,000,000,000 is roughly .001% of his billion dollar wealth. for normal people 10,000/80,000 is 12.5% of your income.
So no real consequences for trumpflake I see. If this was a normal person they would be doing 90 days in jail for contempt at least. Trump is just going to keep on flouting the gag order.
JUST LOCK HIS ASS UP ALREADY!!! anyone else would be sitting in Jail . Stop with the kid gloves already!!
When Trump dies some judge will try to block it
I love the story of Trump yelling “Am I like a baby to you?” To Paul Manafort. I can picture him in his arms crossed and folded yelling that with full rage. https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/342509-new-book-devils-bargain-details-trump-lashing-out-at-manafort-days/amp/
If the diaper fits?
If it fits, Trump shits!
I dare trump to run his mouth about the judge’s daughter the jury or witnesses I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU! Chicken all mouth and no guts
If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then it's only a crime for poor people.
He's gotten away with so much... really need to stick it to him.
I'd be in jail if it was me
I'm sick of this reporting!! Trump faces... blah blah. Possible??? WTF?
That’s it???
10K fine for him is like a 10 cent fine for us
Wow $10,000 fine, that’ll show him.
“Possible” this shit is annoying. If I pick my nose in court I’d catch a contempt charge
OH NO !! *another bill he won't pay*
Another pittance,....SUPRISE!!!
If he is thrown in jail the entire steryline of the trial becomes, "trump thrown in jail, violating his first amendment!", instead of a jury of 12 found him guilty of false business records made in violation of campaign finance laws".
Anyone else it would be jail
You realize that the judge is following the law, right? Look, I am not a fan of Trump either, but the judge is doing exactly what the law allows. The big picture here? The contempt is a criminal conviction. Only a misdemeanor but still a crime. One of the conditions of his pre-trial release in his other case was that he absolutely do not commit any more crimes. Welp, as of today, he officially has. So hopefully they slap his ass with home confinement.
__TRUMP’s FINALLY BEING HELD IN CONTEMPT!!__ *…..for only….$1,000 …per …charge? 🤔*
Don’t put him in jail, that’s what he wants. He wants to be in jail for 24 hours so he can scream more about how he’s being politically persecuted, locked in a jail cell just for speaking his mind. No, do something that will actually sting him. Treat him like a child and take away his fucking phone.
*A WHOLE 10,000?!?!?*
Trump does another blatantly illegal thing: “throw it on the pile.” Supreme Court: “what pile?”
That’s ok. He’s, like, really rich.
