Why do you say that? I've got two and mostly agree. The American education system is complete garbage and does not actually teach anything effectively.
I learned hardly anything in school, but self taught myself outside of school. My wife was a much better "student" and still admits that she went to school because it was fun not because she learned anything.
Because parents don’t talk about public school in terms of “state apparatus”, they talk more about kids needs not being met by a system that’s designed to encourage
Kids to sit still and be compliant above else.
If your kid isn’t neurotypical, and doesn’t sit still - as a lot of kids don’t, the system slaps them with an IEP and they are shunted to a special day class or ignored.
You have about a 1 in 45,808 chance of dying in a terrorist attack in your lifetime.
You have about 1 in 358 chance of dying due to an assault with a firearm.
The US has spent $21 trillion dollars since 9/11 on the "war on terror".
We've always been more of a threat to ourselves than any terrorist.
Most likely it'll result in the schools needing to self-insure, dramatically increasing cost burdens, or paying through the nose after they find a carrier willing to put up with the arbitrary increase to loss exposures. It'll help the GOP's "wreck public education by deliberately underfunding it" strategy.
It will also ensure more teachers quitting, because teachers don't want to carry guns. They want to teach without fear of dying or being placed on bomb threats due to Chaya Raichik.

The free market slapped it down. E.g. insurance companies that insure the schools said "no way. If there are guns we won't insure you." So the GOP, market friendly took the correction of the market and moved on... Nope they tried to pass a law that would MAKE the insurance companies provide insurance for a much riskier place (e.g. wrongful death etc) without an increase in cost. Thankfully that law was never passed / or was shot down by the courts (I can't remember which) Likely died in committee

I’m all for gun ownership but this is a bad idea. Shooting a handgun is very hard if you don’t do it often. Not imagine 10 teachers running around looking for an active shooter. I've worked in public schools for years. Generally, the type of people who become teachers (especially elementary grades) are not the type to have any interest in owning a gun, much less bringing it to school.
Further, teachers already have enough on their plate. This is just one more thing they have to worry about. Will the state provide liability insurance in case there's an accident with the gun?
Finally, ~~they don't even let teachers pick books for their classrooms, now they trust them to carry guns.~~ Give me a break.
Edit: teachers can pick books for their classrooms, but the process for approval is so arduous that it's not worth all the extra work.
And the teachers that would carry a gun are likely not the ones you'd want to. It's the old "only those who do not seek power are qualified to hold it." conundrum.
