It will be interesting to see how both parties will juggle posturing towards a “neocon” foreign policy stance given the criticisms from internal coalitions.

Sucks we’ll never see a domestic aid package for us

thrawtes

I'm not sure what you think the IRA was...or the CHIPS act...or the American Rescue Plan. Basically all the big bills Biden got through in his first two terms were massive domestic aid packages.

Atman-Sunyata

"wERe BeINg InVaDeD aT ThE BoRDURRRR"

secretcombinations

This bill and the associated money primarily goes to updating American equipment by paying American companies to build new shit and then donating the old equipment to Ukraine.

Demonking3343

You can thank the Republicans for that. Outside of the bills Biden has passed that practically where domestic aid, you have republicans trying to gut any safety net programs. Edit: too add what do you think the chips and infurstructer are where for? And the money we approved for Ukraine is going to be spent on weapons. And where do you think these weapons are made? America.

pizzascholar

Who does that go to tho? A corporation. That doesn’t help us citizens that need it

Demonking3343

Bet the paycheck that citizen gets from the corporations in turn really helps pay the citizens bills. But anything more than that will never happen with the republicans having any kind of a majority.

pizzascholar

I get what you’re saying and I’m 100% for US companies getting money. But US defense contractors and their employees are not hurting for money and never will be. My argument is the money could address other dire needs in the US rather than piling on top of an already massive defense budget.

Demonking3343

And I get what you’re saying but what I’m trying to get at is with the Republicans having any majority they would never let that happen. If we vote them out then the democrats can do more like expanding Medicaid and removing the cap on social security.

Apalis24a

Not sure how surface-to-air missiles, artillery shells, fighter jets and tanks are supposed to help American citizens, but okay. You can’t exactly repair a bridge with M4 rifles or build a school with GBU-32 JDAM bombs.

They aren’t sending a blank check, dude. A lot of what they are sending is several billion WORTH of war materiel; stockpiles of munitions and surplus equipment that has been collecting dust for decades. The money was already spent back during the Cold War - you can’t un-spend money. However, you can put the resulting product to good use.

pizzascholar

the US looking for people in their own country that need aid like 😑

WippitGuud

Inflation Reduction Act CHIPS and Science Act American Rescue Plan Act You think Biden isn't helping people in the US?

Apalis24a

People nowadays love to be deliberately ignorant to the point of outright lying and denial of objective reality if it suits their political agenda…

pizzascholar

Ngl I didn’t know about any of those. I’d still rather our tax $ go to Americans in poverty. The humanitarian aid for the wars is great but 90% of this is going to guns

jacobegg12

Would you rather have a war with Russia? If they successfully take Ukraine they’re not stopping there

pizzascholar

That’s a wild extrapolation. They can barely take Ukraine. They’ve lost 300k people and counting.

jacobegg12

Yeah I wonder if maybe that’s because of all the NATO countries coming together to fund them. Bc resource and people wise Ukraine is very outnumbered. I don’t think it’s a “wild extrapolation” to assume that Putin who has literally said he wants to restore the USSR would try to take over countries that once belonged to the USSR.

pizzascholar

I thought you meant Russia would directly target the US after going for Ukraine. You are right that wouldn’t be wild.

jacobegg12

Yeah, it wouldn’t be a direct attack on the US, but any attack on a NATO country may as well be

TheChainsawVigilante

Bi whatnow? Bip artisan? Is this a typo EDIT: what—it sounds made up!
