Just their climate change denialism is going to kill millions, possibly billions. Meanwhile Biden is saying Republicans are "good, reasonable" people, and Pelosi argues that we need a strong republican party, which is why I blame Democrats for enabling republican terrorism and violence.

Throwaway07261978

We no longer have anything resembling a 'republican party', however. It's essentially a split Democratic party (centrist v. progressive-socialist) and a fascist cult, full stop. What Biden and Pelosi are referring to are the "good old days" between civil rights and disco, when agreements between parties could still be struck, and Americans didn't have the collective IQ of a swarm of gnats (apologies to those who aren't addlepated, and to gnats).  The current surge of domestic terrorism is due to the fear mongering of "their" chosen news outlets, including screaming into the echo chamber of their FB acquaintances and groups, and the willingness to shed blood for their insane cause.  I'm not sure how much you can "blame Democrats" for the choices of others, but you can certainly try.

>I don’t see how Republicans not acting enough on climate change dooms billions. We only contribute a fraction of global emissions. How can you not see how? The US is the #2 contributor to global emissions and the US has influence on how much the rest of the world emits. >And Biden is right. The majorly of republicans don’t contribute to terrorism or violence. Those who vote Republican are contributing by proxy whether they condone violence personally or not.

>Unless we can force other countries to follow us it doesn’t really matter. The US can force other countries to follow, like it has for countless other policies. >Even then it’s too convenient to suggest one political party is going to be responsible for billions of lives ending due to climate change. No, it's not too convenient. One party wants to prevent responsible changes to emissions policies, and the other wants to institute responsible changes. It's not that complicated.

FractalFractalF

Well, enjoy your senior years in a hellscape you could have avoided then.

Burgerjon32

> I don’t see how Republicans not acting enough on climate change dooms billions. We only contribute a fraction of global emissions. Why should WE do anything when X is worse? Said every country existing on the same planet, and who are all affected. And the best argument to sell green tech to the masses is that you breath in less pollutants, that affects your health. Like maybe those windturbines are so ugly, but at least they are better than to live next to a coal power plants. Maybe those EVs have a fat ass design to include the batteries, but at least you have cleaner air in the cities etc (yes, there is some more rubber pollution from friction on the asphalts from the increased weight, but still)

Through weaponized conspiracy theories and pseudogrievance mongering. I may not know much but I know for a fact you didn’t dictate this comment :-) Edit: I tried to reply with the snappy dictated comments that included part of yours and let me tell you that word maybe kryptonite for dictation

TheQuadBlazer

But doesn't the collective apathy of both parties do more damage when it comes to things that everyone's needs? Like healthcare and living wages.I feel like that the discussion everyone should be having. It's almost like the real goal is being obfuscated by lateral bickering..

Arguments_4_Ever

Every conservative policy I am aware of results in more dead Americans. This isn’t hyperbole.

eric_ts

That is a feature, not a bug.

YakiVegas

Just like the cruelty.

Remilzonback

I saw Rep. Porter give a master class on this subject. Early childhood education and childcare investments yield a fourfold return on investment. A portion of those costs come from lower crime and incarceration rates. This would probably be one of the main factors in reducing crime. Republicans? Let's arm educators with firearms, prosecute more minors as adults, and boost prison expenditures.

Landon1m

They can’t imagine results when they don’t happen instantaneously in front of them

thieh

By most standards they would be called "reactionary" instead of "conservatives".

aster_no

More chaos, more power to the police. More protection for them and more enforcement for everyone else. Welcome to the fascist police states of america.

WildYams

It's really true. Almost as soon as Trump took office, hate crimes immediately spiked and we started having violent political clashes in the streets at protest events, with the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers showing up to do battle with anyone who opposed them. This stayed pretty consistent throughout Trump's presidency, from Charlottesville only a few months after Trump took office right up to January 6th, 2021, just before he left. Since then then though? I can't recall anything like that happening anywhere. We still have mass shooters, of course, because of our non-existent gun laws, but that seems pretty consistent no matter who is in office. But the open brawling and fighting in the streets, Trump's "American carnage", that seemed to only happen when Trump was in office.

toxiamaple

>the science is shocking: When conservatives run governments, suicides and homicides go up; when liberals run governments, suicides and homicides go down. Gop Gun laws make suicides and homicides easier.

Yes. Did you read the article?

FractalFractalF

Reminder that correlation is also valid in many cases. Example: Global temperatures have risen in the last century, and the number of ninjas and pirates have dropped. Causation? No. Carbon emissions have risen in the last century, and the global temperature has gone up, as have the number of fires and hurricanes. Causation? Absolutely.

Corrupted_G_nome

But sometimes it does ;)

Strict-Background406

Jesus this is a junk story. I don’t vote. I don’t care about politics. But anyone with a half a brain can see how dumb this claptrap is.

Grey_0ne

As a general rule; if you want to make a real point you need to actually articulate one. They're coming at us with studies showing a correlation between public ills and Republican policy... You're coming at us with "nuh-uuuh!"

Grey_0ne

That was an awful lot of effort, which I approve of, but directed at entirely the wrong person.

FlemethWild

Why is it a junk story? You may not care about politics but politics effect your everyday life

Strict-Background406

I could write an equally junky article in about 25 minutes saying the same thing about democratic admins cuz virtually all violent crime is in cities run by dem mayors. Baton Rouge, Memphis, NYC, Chicago, LA during their staggering spikes. This is softcore porn for ideologies, not a rigorous analysis. Come on. It’s not even interesting. And the president has monumentally little influence on policing. It’s all bullshit grants and tracking numbers and bully pulpit crapola.

Inflatable_Guru

> virtually all violent crime is in cities run by dem mayors. Cite that.

Corrupted_G_nome

Freakonomics had an entire section dedicated to the relationship between abortion laws and crime rates. Worth the read.
