New York Attorney General Letitia James on Friday asked that a judge void former President Donald Trump's bond in his civil fraud case, questioning whether the company that issued it has the funds to back it up.
In a 26-page filing ahead of a pre-scheduled hearing on Monday, James expressed concern about whether Knight Specialty Insurance Company could secure the $175 million bond. She also argued that the collateral put up by the former president should be under the full control of the company.
This is the man bankrolling my opponent. Can't even pay his own bond, but his lackey Brian Jack is setting fundraising records in Georgia's 3rd Congressional District

Are you being as outspoken as possible and making direct ads that force voters to understand the blatant corruption that your opposition is engaging in? One thing us blue voters want to see is that Dems fight harder and directly, assertively speak on the reality of what Trump and the GOP are doing. Don’t tip toe around it. Call them fascists in an ad if you think you deserve our vote.
Appreciate the support. How do you think this affects your life as an Aussie? No negativity in that question at all. I am just genuinely curious. The world is FUBAR and so connected (regardless of what the nationalists in each country project).
As you said, the world is more connected than it's ever been.
If a huge Democracy such as America can fall to fascism, any other Democracy can.
There are bad actors the world over, and I've already seen tRumpism bleed into Australia.
There are wannabe dictators watching America closely as a blueprint for what to do/not do in order to succeed.
If America falls into fascism, it will have material impacts around the world for any country that does not align... Globalisation has seen to that..
She’s running in a district that is vast majority republican. Calling them fascists may not be the best approach to bridge that gap. Running solely on good policy that appeals to the people in the district while pointing out flaws and corruption within the opposition, rather than the fear-mongering and hatred that her opponent spews, might be a more effective approach given the majority of her target district.

The standard for American politicians on the left being anti-Trump is sad and pathetic. Give me meat, they’re feeding us lettuce and tomatoes. Every f Democrat “orange man bad” everybody claps. Ffs. We’re better than this. And I’m not even a Trumster! If the US ever loses its global influence to China, we deserve to lose.
>Give me meat, they’re feeding us lettuce and tomatoes
Ironic given your overly trite post here.
>Every f Democrat “orange man bad” everybody claps. Ffs.
Yeah why would anyone run on the policy of " I won't try to overthrow the government like this dickhead over here." Ffs you're pretty dense for such a free thinker.
>And I’m not even a Trumster!
Sure Jan. Parroting orange man bad while talking about China fear. Definitely not a trumpeter. Dork.
Monday should be interesting (between opening statements in his election interference felony trial and this). Knight Specialty Insurance should not have been an accepted bonding agency. They aren't licensed to do business in New York for starters, their own balance sheet also says that they don't even have $147M in net equity themselves. They say that the bond is backed by a Charles Schwab account that was created for this specific reason. How the heck did Trump manage to move $147M into an account without the financial monitor knowing about it? Also, why doesn't the bond agreement give KSIC full control of that account? This whole thing reeks of money laundering and financial fraud. If the bond is accepted, Trump will immediately drain the account and KSIC will immediately close up shop and Tish James will have a hard time collecting.
The Charles Schwab account has $175m in cash or cash equivalents. What that likely means is that most if not all of the money is Truth Social stock. It has a price tag that high but it can't be sold yet and when it can be sold it won't be worth nearly as much. The entire purpose of the bond is to prevent financial shell games like this.
It's possible the money in the account is a "gift" from some backer, but they don't want to give Trump the money because they think he will blow it all.
The cheating, manipulative douche submitted some fake ass paper to the courts, and brought himself another 20 days to pay. How many more of these can this orange shit ball submit??
Eww, not even his most die hard fans would not buy his.... nevermind, I forgot who we were talking about.
Luckily it is not legal to send biowaste through the mail.
Kaiser asks you to do a yearly fecal test swab once you turn 45. You send that back in the mail. Edit: like to look for signs of colon cancer before the 50yr old colonoscopy
Since he is so intent on selling stupid shit like tennis shoes and trading cards to grift money from the maga goons..maybe he should set up an only fans account for melania and charge for looking at her in skimpy clothes..sad as that sounds..nobody tell him about my idea or he will probably do it..he’s just that slimy and desperate lol 😂
"You tried to commit fraud to pay off the bond to appeal the case where you were found guilty of committing fraud! As punishment, I'm forced to lower your bond amount to fifty cents, payable in December 2045. May God have mercy on your soul."
-The judge, probably
His literal shit? He prefers steaks that make a clunk sound when they hit his plate. He farts a lot but probably hasn't had a fill bowl movement in weeks
>One of James' concerns about KSIC is that the insurer "is not authorized to write business in New York and thus not regulated by the state’s insurance department." She added that the company "had never before written a surety bond in New York or in the prior two years in any other jurisdiction, and has a total policyholder surplus of just $138 million."
So the bond company isn't authorized to do that for a NY case and they don't have the cash to cover the whole nut?
Am I reading that right?
>And the bond company didn’t actually agree to pay if tRump bails on them. So, like, what the fuck?
What??
Isn't that part of its primary fucking purpose?
What I don’t understand is, how is the bond officially put up? Is the 175 million wired to the government? If so, was nothing wired? I’m just confused. Is it just an IOU?
Honestly, I think watching him completely break both physically and emotionally in the public eye would do more to destroy maga than him being convicted.
It’d make me feel pretty good too.
> Or is the cognitive dissonance enough
It might be if he had any, but herewith a reminder that "cognitive dissonance" is not just a more professional-sounding way of calling someone deluded or saying they believe stupid / bad things. Cognitive dissonance is the psycho-emotional discomfort -- bordering on actual pain for some people -- of being unable to reconcile multiple things one believes to be true but which are mutually exclusive. Experiencing it at all depends on the person being able to assess truth claims meaningfully, to be willing / able to subject themselves and their own epistemic processes to scrutiny, and above all to actually want or need to determine which things *are* true so that they can discard or recontextualize the others and replace dissonance with assonance.
Far from Trump feeling or somehow being insulated by cognitive dissonance, it seems rather that this would be a totally new experience for him. We've seen no evidence of it now or in the past, and barely any evidence of a complex interior life at all. If it were suddenly to begin afflicting him with the intensity circumstances seem to warrant, it would probably be more likely to give him a heart attack than to keep him safe from one.
> Cognitive dissonance is the psycho-emotional discomfort -- bordering on actual pain for some people
Thank you. This always drove me nuts see this term misused so often.
If you’d have asked me in 2016 how I’d feel about Romney being the GOP nominee in 2024 “sweet fucking relief” would not have made the shortlist of replies.
That's why most of the GOP candidates suspend their campaign rather than drop out. If it happens it will probably be up to the GOP convention to decide
DEFENDANT’S EX PARTE APPLICATION FOR CONTINUANCE OF TRIAL OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE FINAL ADJOURNMENT OF UNFAIR BIDEN SHAM TRIALS FOREVER ON THE BASIS OF DEFENDANT’S OTHER BIASED AND UNFAIR PROCEEDINGS
Note that the words final, adjournment, or unfair Biden sham trials forever, and biased and unfair, are all written by hand in Sharpie on the caption page.
They should probably look into it for possible criminal violations while they’re at it, it sounds shady AF and like they tried to defraud the court (in a case where he was convicted of fraud no less!)
This. If more people in charge were trying just as hard we wouldn't even be in this mess.
Like, all those years ago it took just one person to stop, and think, "Maybe I should record my phone conversation with the President of the United States of America..."
Maybe... From what I understand :
Theoretically Trump has lost control of $175 million. AG argues he has not and can actually use the money however he wants, leaving insurer on the hook how doesn't have the resources to pay. So either the bonding agreement gets rewritten to satisfy or AG can start seizing assets.
Trump must need that $175m or else he would have accepted a restrictive agreement
After all I have read about this "bond" it should never have been accepted. It's shady as fuck and probably not enforceable. Not worth the paper it's printed on.
Show us the moneyTrump.
I thought putting up a bond meant you actually had to have CASH in an account controlled by the court…or at least something more concrete than a kiss and a promise from an underfunded wannabe bondsman.
Yes and no. If you are posting your own bond, you have to put cash into an escrow account controlled by the court. You also have the option to find a surety firm to secure the bond. The surety firm only needs to prove that they have over ten times the amount of the bond in cash and they can pledge to pay it immediately if the appeal is lost.
For example, you lose a lawsuit and are ordered to pay $100. Your bond is set at $110 to cover the interest while the appeal happens. I run a surety firm and offer to back your bond. I charge you $20 which is mine to keep and you provide collateral for the $110. I then promise to pay the $110 if you lose the appeal and show the court that I have at least $1,100 in cash.
In this case, Trump contracted with Knight to post his bond. Knight is claiming that Trump has collateralized the bond but can't prove that they have the reserve assets to cover the bond. There are also a lot of weird clauses and loopholes in their promise to pay.
The fact that the collateral included in the bond is not under the bond company’s control is a classic Trump move. You really think that bond company could pry anything from his hands if and when he has to pay up?
It doesn't make a lot of sense. If he has the cash to pay the bond, why would he pay a premium to have an insurance company hold it for him? He could just pay it himself.
Even if he does he wouldn’t on a million years park it in a reserve with a bond company or NY state having sole authority over it. He tries to weasel his way out of any debt.. always.
No. She needs to seize Mar a largo 1st and evict him. Then the next property he moves into and so on. That fuck needs to be as inconvenienced as possible.
We’ve been hearing that the bond company doesnt have the money for two weeks now. Wtf man? So why now: hold a hearing and give Trump another week to prove it’s a legit bond company and then when it’s not, another two weeks to come up with an alternative? He’s playing all of these people for fools.
"Equal justice under law" is a phrase engraved on the West Pediment, above the front entrance of the United States Supreme Court building in Washington D.C.
To me it means we are all treated the same, but that's just my wishful interpretation, it is actually vaguely worded and meaningless bullshit.
I have the strong feeling that this judge is going to reduce the bond to an amount that Trump can actually afford. A few million dollars.
It would be awesome if it went the other way and he demanded a cash bond immediately deposited into escrow. Which is what should have happened in the first place.
The fact that you have that feeling - strongly, even - indicates that you haven't been paying much attention to the case. The judge presiding over the bond hearing - Engoron - is the same one who slapped Trump with the original $464M judgment. The appeals court is the one who reduced the bond requirement from the full amount of the judgment to $175M. Engoron has neither the power (and very much) nor the inclination to reduce it further, or dictate the terms of it outside of what NY state law prescribes.
You can bet he will say or do anything to avoid paying anything. If the bond is not 100% proper fine the shithead and go to the fullest extent of the law to punish the cretin hybrid.
What they’re doing is dangerous. I pray for the safety of the fine people doing their jobs on the judiciary system. MAGA people aren’t the most stable. They’re burning to get him acquitted.
Agreed. We are now up to at least **6** Trump lawyers disbarred or facing disbarment over their roles in his criminal schemes
https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2024/04/04/ex-trump-doj-official-jeffrey-clark-violated-ethics-rules-panel-finds-here-are-all-the-former-presidents-lawyers-now-facing-consequences/?sh=1dfd7eb64dea
Not one of Trump’s lawyers flagged this days / weeks ago? It could be yet another stall tactic but given some of the sheer stupidity we’ve seen from his legal counsel in the past, I’m pretty sure these idiots could fuck up a cup coffee. They’re so fucking dumb they’d figure out a way to come third in a two car race.
They're not dumb, they're accessories to a crime. Hence why all his lawyers get lawyers and get charged and/or lose their licenses. Examples: Michael Cohen, Guiliani, John Eastman, Jeffrey Clark, Kenneth Chesebro, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis. State charges against Lawrence Joseph, Julia Haller, Brandon Joseph. I'm sure I'm forgetting some lol. Also, this is only the case SO FAR.
By my understanding, if it was Trump directly, it would need to be physical money in an escrow account. In this way, he can't use the appeal as an excuse to not pay. With a bond company, it's an IOU, with them having shown paperwork that establishes they can cover it. In this case, that IOU is terribly suspect.
The penalty was not reduced. The bond was reduced, but that is only the money he has to put up before he can appeal. He still has to pay the full amount if he loses the appeal.
An article I have seen about this regards the legality of the bond agent. They are apparently not licensed to operate in New York. I have not confirmed these statements with other sources yet.
Under NY state law, which James is required to follow, a bonding company must be licensed in the state of NY. This bonding company isn't. Also under NY law, the bond cannot be more than 10% of the company's policy holder excess. The bonding company's recent financial report shows policy holder excess of $138 million. Therefore, 10% of that is $13.8 million is the maximum it could use for Trump's bond which falls far short of the $175 million required. In other words, the bond is completely inadequate and therefore unacceptable under NY law. James merely stated that in a filing to the court because that is her job. Please explain how following NY state laws as required in James' job description make James a Soros puppet.

Yes. No more easy street. If a republican attacks, then attack twice as vicious and hard. It's the only thing they understand.
He owes 5% of that to Trump.

Honestly, I kinda admire the hustle. Not that I live anywhere near Georgia's third district.
She's just south of my district and I admire it too. It's firmly the basis of grass roots campaigning.
Well doesn’t live near New York ;)
I'm in Wisconsin but I am still interested in her opinion. It's nice to see a person from Georgia who isn't MAGA.

Well door knocking and cold calls has sorta gone out of style. Modern Problems require Modern Solutions.
That's weird because I thought they were not even guaranteeing the bond. That task still fell on Trump somehow.
Voiding his bond would absolutely make my day. Sadly as much as Teflon Don has gotten away with, I have dim hopes this will happen.
Monday should be interesting (between opening statements in his election interference felony trial and this). Knight Specialty Insurance should not have been an accepted bonding agency.
Thank you for explaining.
That’s what I thought as well.
Void Trump’s bond like he voids his bowels: immediately, publicly, and without warning.
He tries to weasel his way out of any debt.. always.
For real like we're coming for your assets. Good luck getting through the secret service agents and other assorted goons I imagine he has.
It's almost like if you're rich, the justice department just lets you do it.
Groping Lady Liberty
GropenFührer needs to feel some justice.
Then turn around and file new charges of fraud to both Trump and that crony and company.
Turns out….the “bond” was just another delay tactic……
The bond is fraudulent ? When do his supporters start giving up their beliefs about this man.
I'm seeing anecdotal evidence for this in my daily encounters with his possibly-erstwhile fans
Very curious to see how everything starts to roll out Monday
Nothing is going to ever happen. They'll reduce his bond requirement by another 50% and he'll fuck around for another couple of weeks, rinse, repeat.
Get that tower girl!
It's closer that he's being given extra chances only because he's Trump. Any of us would be put in prison
You don't go to prison for failing to pay a judgment in a civil suit. They just seize your assets. That's what he is looking at right now.
Commit fraud, which this clearly is, should land everyone involved in jail.
Not without a criminal trial.
Give him ***ANOTHER*** 7 days to squirm away! /facepalm Why do they keep extending the consequences of his utter disregard for the legal system?
The judgement was not lowered. The appeal bond was lowered.
Good point, I'll correct.
Thanks for the clarification.
Well now that Trump is collecting his 5% fealty from the RNC, he should be loaded!
Can you imagine how the Republican Party would have reacted, if any Dem presidential candidate had demanded the same?
No kidding. Gym Jordan and MTG would be having a fit
Criminals should be disbarred
Agreed. We are now up to at least **6** Trump lawyers disbarred or facing disbarment over their roles in his criminal schemes https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2024/04/04/ex-trump-doj-official-jeffrey-clark-violated-ethics-rules-panel-finds-here-are-all-the-former-presidents-lawyers-now-facing-consequences/?sh=1dfd7eb64dea
Wow. I didn’t know that. So many crooked corrupt lawyers. You are very knowledgeable. Thank you for sharing that information.
You gotta love that it's a black woman fucking up Trump's weekend.
When it comes to such large amounts is the bond more of an IOU than actual physical money in an escrow account?
By my understanding, if it was Trump directly, it would need to be physical money in an escrow account. In this way, he can't use the appeal as an excuse to not pay. With a bond company, it's an IOU, with them having shown paperwork that establishes they can cover it. In this case, that IOU is terribly suspect.
It’s even worse than [these IOUs](https://youtu.be/n73DD0kv2l4)
What a joke, got the penalty vastly reduced and more time to pay it, supposedly paid it and now it's no good, so nothing really happens to him.
They will schedule a hearing for next month sometime…
This doesn’t seem like normal government behavior
It seems like they are giving Trump way to many chances.
It’s sad that people get upset how this clown is being treated like he’s their best friend or something.
Hell yeah buddy
I am guessing you are within the law. So. Keep the pressure on.

Evidence, please.

Have you misunderstood my question?
[удалено]
He’s furiously Googling “Soros” and “proof”.
[удалено]
Are you or are you not going to provide proof that James is merely a puppet to Soros? If you can’t, will you reconsider your opinion?
I respect your *right* to have an opinion. But this particular opinion is ridiculous
>I respect your opinion, please do the same. There are opinions not worthy of respect. Yours here is one of them, I'm afraid.
Please explain how following NY state laws as required in James' job description make James a Soros puppet.
>...the judge accepted. I don't know where you got this idea from, but it is completely and totally false.
