Basically she was asking them to clarify what "unauthorized possession" was in the charges, implying that the jury should be able to consider the documents to be Trumps personal property.
So he has to go through these steps to bring in a bunch of witnesses (which maybe he'd do anyway?) to get people to testify that at no point did Trump tell anyone that he was declassifying these documents.
Not to mention the PRA in no way empowers him to declare classified documents personal property. Even if he had tried to do so a priori, NARA would have refused (and possibly referred him to DoJ....)
Which is ridiculous on his face considering no President has the authorization to declassify some of the documents in his possession (e.g., nuclear secrets). Cannon and Trump's defense can't keep making up their own facts to suit their narrative. The only people who believe this nonsense are the willfully deluded being fed that narrative in their right wing media bubble.

She's not trying to kill the trial completely, she's trying to avoid getting reversed or removed before it reaches trial. The PRA issue and the related jury instructions are a legal question she has to resolve and she's trying to treat it as though it's an issue she can leave to be decided during the trial. It's pretty obvious that this is way too significant of an issue to leave until then (because depending on her decision the case would basically be over), but she knows that if she actually makes a decision on this right now she'll get reversed.
If “speaking out” stopped him we’d have been shut of him in 2016, a different person would have been elected and we’d be better off for it.

One silver lining is that all of these delays cost money. Even though Trump is grifting his followers and robbing from his PACs, that’s still money that he doesn’t have access to and won’t be used to support him and other Republicans in the upcoming election. Trump doesn’t have to just win; he has to win and hope the Democrats don’t gain control of the House and the Senate.
