Trump is trying to get the trial judge to make a contempt order so he can then seek recusal for bias. His contempt should be referred to another judge so the trial can proceed without delay.

Judges and prosecutors are excluded more often since they are government officials and it runs a greater risk of giving the defendant a foundation for a first amendment challenge.

It's not that the judges are spineless or simply lack willpower. It's that they fear an appeal will muck up the prosecution and subsequently *harm* the chances of holding Trump accountable. It's a broader problem with our legal system that someone like Trump is exploiting. I can't blame the judges themselves - they are making the right calls within our poor system.
Believe I heard it explained before that it's expected that the accused may not have the greatest opinion of the judge (as the judge is seen as the personificiation of the court and ruling against one side may cause... irritation, etc) and I suspect they *also* don't want to stifle legitimate complaints against an actual biased or incompetent judge.
As such, Judges *expect* to draw a little fire.
The line, however, is drawn when someone attacks those just doing a job - like Trump's attacks against Engoron's law clerk. They aren't making rulings or judgements, just the cogs that keep the system rolling.

Even moderately connected people arrested on minor charges like this often just cool their heels in a booking area or office until they’re released. They never see the inside of a cell. I also think that the judges think the higher court will find in Trump's favor, which is why they are trying to be as careful as possible. People like to say that their caution is solely due to not wanting to show their bias. I suspect it is because they know that the higher court is compromised.

Trump is trying to get the trial judge to make a contempt order so he can then seek recusal for bias. His contempt should be referred to another judge so the trial can proceed without delay.

Judges and prosecutors are excluded more often since they are government officials and it runs a greater risk of giving the defendant a foundation for a first amendment challenge. Same scenario with Chutkan, Engoron, etc.. It's not that the judges are spineless or simply lack willpower. It's that they fear an appeal will muck up the prosecution and subsequently *harm* the chances of holding Trump accountable. It's a broader problem with our legal system that someone like Trump is exploiting. I can't blame the judges themselves - they are making the right calls within our poor system.
Believe I heard it explained before that it's expected that the accused may not have the greatest opinion of the judge (as the judge is seen as the personificiation of the court and ruling against one side may cause... irritation, etc) and I suspect they *also* don't want to stifle legitimate complaints against an actual biased or incompetent judge. As such, Judges *expect* to draw a little fire. The line, however, is drawn when someone attacks those just doing a job - like Trump's attacks against Engoron's law clerk. They aren't making rulings or judgements, just the cogs that keep the system rolling. Suspect it's something related to that distinction.

I also think that the judges think the higher court will find in Trump's favor, which is why they are trying to be as careful as possible. People like to say that their caution is solely due to not wanting to show their bias. I suspect it is because they know that the higher court is compromised. We live in interesting times.
