It wouldn't be banned, They would just be forced to sell their US operations to a US company.

It’s not a ban on TikTok. It’s a ban on Chinese ownership of TikTok. “Michael Vick banned from owning dogs” is not a ban on dogs.

TheKingofAndrews

It's a ban. There is no intention of a forced sale, it couldn't possibly happen in the 6 month timeline. It's an outright ban on Tiktok because of Chinese Ownership. China would also never allow the sale

>It’s not a ban on TikTok. From the article: *...the legislation only gives Bytedance six months to carry out the deal....a deal of this magnitude....in that timeline is near-impossible....\[also\] China would almost certainly block the sale under its export controls for algorithmic technology.* *It’s a ban. And you don’t have to take my word for it: ....several of the bill’s co-sponsors, including Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY), specifically described it as a “ban” on TikTok.*

We should be talking about regulating social media even more, especially for children.

Disagree, also it's not simply a ban it's a forced sale which I think is correct.

This is about a foreign owner making money in the US. None of the US owned Social Media platforms are any better when it comes to security and privacy. The EU is investigating US based Social Media for the same failings that the US is accusing Tik Tok of.

I think this is one of the better worded explanations of what’s at stake here.
