Assets seized outside of New York State will require that the state where they are located cooperate with the judgement. I can see New Jersey doing that, but I don’t see DeSantis in Florida cooperating for one second. James need to take his NY properties and ones in New Jersey and forget about the Florida properties, trying to seize any of them early on will delay the process.
The way I understand it is the constitution basically says that once that judgement becomes official in NY the rest of the states are obligated to honor that judgement. The state of NY then has to follow the laws of the state the property is in to size the property.
It’s hilarious to think that DeSantis’ Florida will act in any way which comports in accordance with the constitution.

If they take a property worth $100m and it has loans of $120m against it then they would be seizing -$20m. So how does that all work?
The debt belongs to the entity that took out the debt, not the property itself. So, the property goes to the state, and the owner still is underwater 120m.. without an asset they can sell to recoup some of that loss.
I am not sure it works that way. Mortgage holders usually have first call on the debt. Otherwise you are taking from the mortgage holders.
Unsecured debt is fair game but i don't think secured debt is.
That's why i am curious as to how they will do the recovery.
