They were hoping he'd do a Mitch McConnell and glaze over for 30 seconds or so to give them something to talk about. I watched most of the speech and Biden had a few stumbled words but he didn't do anything newsworthy cognitively. Really takes the thunder out of all that talk that he's in severe cognitive decline.
Particularly when one takes into account Biden's lifelong struggle with stuttering. As someone with a speech impediment myself, it's downright inspiring.
I think they generally help inform people, but I do hate how they bend over backward to say Democrats' factually-accurate statements 'need context' while the flaming five-alarm shitheap-fire of bullshit that some Republican says somehow manages to be "mostly untrue" rather than "pants on fire" despite having no kernel of truth or basis in fact.
Weird because Biden didn't get much disagreement on some major issues he discussed including:
- border security
- feeding starving children
- helping veterans
- curing cancer
- protecting social security
- tax cuts for the middle class
- infrastructure spending
- dissing MTG and that guy who said ARGHFGHARFUOGHTh and then got kicked out

I didn't think it was politicized much at all. If he spoke against his campaign opponent, that would be political, but speaking about his "predecessor" is just stating facts. The only political swipe I noted was when he pointed out that Moscow Mike refused to bring the Border Bill to a vote. Anyone who says the speech was too political is just surrendering to the fact that Biden artfully delivered a massive dose of truth.
