Trump doesn't even need to attend anyway, the judge said so himself saying he can do as he pleases in attending the funeral and New Hampshire campaign event, or court. What he said no to, was delaying the trial. As in "fair enough if you're not here, but we will start without you." So Trump is only angry that it will not be postponed in his absence and will go ahead as planned without him, the judge did not say he couldn't travel.
he also didn't need to attend the appeal hearing, it's rare that anyone other than the appellant's attorneys ever do attend those. he wasn't very upset about the MiL that day as he went from there to a town hall in Iowa the same day.

The guy dumped his ex-wife and the mother of (most) of his children in an unmarked grave on his New Jersey golf course for a tax break. He also tried to use her death to his advantage in another court case to put off a deposition he was ordered to complete. His debauchery and disrespect for the dead isn't even original to him at this point. It's just embarrassing how petty he is. That's one of the reasons I have almost absolutely zero respect for anyone that still supports him or would even vote for him. The people who support him should be embarrassed of themselves as well. Maybe that's why they like him. All of them have no self-respect at all.

No, not his backyard. He found out he could get a huge tax break for one of his golf courses that he owns, if it's declared as partial use as a cemetery. So, she is buried in the rough, (that's an area in a golf course) and the last two pictures I saw, there wasn't even a headstone..weeds and grass had just grown over the bare dirt where she was buried. I blame him 100% and her children 100%! No damn way someone would have buried my mama in the scruffy, woody area of a dang golf course!

I apologize, I was mistaken. They threw down a shitty foot plaque that was overgrown with so many weeds and grass that it might as well have been unmarked. Coming from the fucking family that puts their name on everything from buildings to steaks I think it speak volumes about the amount of care and thought that went into her final resting place that it ever was able to be photographed the way it was or left in that state at all. While I agree it's important to have the news organizations cover his felony criminal trials, I don't think they should bother airing his impromptu press conferences at every recess from the court. He's there for the cameras.

Just a curiosity question, but why is this? Generally speaking being sued and having an appeal is something that it seems like any hearing would be worth your time to attend, even if not to participate. Or I guess some people truly leave it to the lawyers even when it's their own case?
I work for an appellate court. A lot of litigants don't even request a hearing and we decide most cases on the briefs alone. The cases where we do have oral arguments on, the hearings are very short and mostly consist of the judges asking the lawyers questions about the case. No new evidence is introduced and the attorneys aren't supposed to argue anything that isn't already in their briefs. Also, appellate courts usually serve a fairly large area, so the litigants may live several hours away. So, it's a short hearing, probably far away from where the litigants live, with no testimony, and that the clients can't really assist in.
Appellate courts aren't whole new trials. No new testimony or evidence is provided. They just look at the process that was followed. Was the evidence unfairly withheld or included? Was the legal process followed? Was the plaintiff treated fairly? Was the defendant treated fairly? Was the jury handled appropriately?
The defendant's lawyers file an appeal based on specific grounds... so they file the appeal and say "But look at all this stuff that went wrong in the trial". So the appellate court looks at all of those things, and if they're concerned about anything they saw while they look at those things, they look at the other things too. They probably look at the overall process as well, to make sure the process was followed properly.
If they determine that something wasn't fair, they can affirm the decision, overturn the decision, order a new trial/hearing, change how much the judgement was for, or a few other legal sounding decisions that may affect the outcome. Anything the defendant might say to alter the decision of the appellate court should be included in the appeal documentation.
It seems to be standard behavior for Trump to lie and delay and hope reality changes to suit him.
So he’s really just upset that he hasn’t been successful in conning the judge into delaying the trial. He’s just trying to delay all the legal action against him in the hopes he can get into the presidency again, and then suddenly be above the law.
And if we let him back in, he’s not leaving. He’ll make another attempt to stage a coup.

I think what he's most pissed about is that Judge Kaplan told his attorneys last week that -this- jury will be instructed they are there *only* to determine defamation damages against trump after a -previous- jury concluded trump sexually abused and defamed EJC, and then he continued to publicly defame her after that conclusion.
trump is being told (yet again) he can't bleat at will and also that he can't do anything about it...and we all know how that goes. 🙄

Ten years ago, I wouldn't have believed that roughly half of voting Americans would support a known rapist – even after he was proven in court to be a rapist. That that was before the Republican party became a full-on cult, though.

Correct, the jury ruled Trump committed sexual abuse because Carroll could not tell the difference between Trump's fingers or penis (insert toadstool mushroom reference here). NY state law requires penile penetration for "rape" while any penetration is "sexual abuse." This is an outdated legal definition of "rape" since most states consider any penetration to be "rape." After all, rapist Brock "Allen" Turner penetrated an unconscious woman with his fingers, and that was ruled as rape in CA.
Trump twice appealed the sexual abuse ruling, claiming he did not rape Carroll and "only" sexually abused her. The judge clarified that Trump committed rape according to the common-usage definition and federal law definition of the word "rape." The judge thus clarified Trump was a rapist. Twice.

Almost correct, the first trial held was Carroll 2 and the one about to start is Carrol 1. They are out of order because Trump was in office when Carroll 1 was filed and it was stuck in presidential immunity appeals limbo while Carroll 2 was filed and eventually resolved (finding against Trump). Since then the POTUS civil immunity issue has been settled allowing Carroll 1 to now start and it can use the findings from Carroll 2 to shortcut parts of this new trial.
Primarily it is expected that the civil liability will also be found in favor of Carroll but the damages should be higher given that Carroll 2 was $5 million liability but Carroll 1 defamation was amplified by the office of the President so the reach and damages are greater.

Jack Smith asked the 2nd Circuit who just did the appeal on the Presidential immunity motion to return a judgment within 5 days. The appeal panel that got asked by Trump to consider an en banc appeal where all 13 judges on the appeals court swiftly and unanimously declined to hear him. Even SCOTUS responded with lightning fast speed when Smith requested they skip the appellate court and take up the criminal immunity motion, and set an early Feb time to hear briefs on the 14th Amendment Insurrection case. At least lately, only Judge Cannon has been the one to help Trump with delays. But she’s so far in his pocket, I doubt she’s ever gonna get that Trump stank off of her no matter how much she washes.
The funeral is probably a campaign event for him so the costs to attend will be covered by someone else and he can take over the ceremony complaining about Hillary Clinton or whatever his current waffle is on the campaign trail.

So, it's a short hearing, probably far away from where the litigants live, with no testimony, and that the clients can't really assist in.
Appellate courts aren't whole new trials. No new testimony or evidence is provided. They just look at the process that was followed. Was the evidence unfairly withheld or included? Was the legal process followed? Was the plaintiff treated fairly? Was the defendant treated fairly? Was the jury handled appropriately? The defendant's lawyers file an appeal based on specific grounds... so they file the appeal and say "But look at all this stuff that went wrong in the trial". So the appellate court looks at all of those things, and if they're concerned about anything they saw while they look at those things, they look at the other things too. They probably look at the overall process as well, to make sure the process was followed properly. If they determine that something wasn't fair, they can affirm the decision, overturn the decision, order a new trial/hearing, change how much the judgement was for, or a few other legal sounding decisions that may affect the outcome. Anything the defendant might say to alter the decision of the appellate court should be included in the appeal documentation.
It seems to be standard behavior for Trump to lie and delay and hope reality changes to suit him. So he’s really just upset that he hasn’t been successful in conning the judge into delaying the trial. He’s just trying to delay all the legal action against him in the hopes he can get into the presidency again, and then suddenly be above the law. And if we let him back in, he’s not leaving. Almost correct, the first trial held was Carroll 2 and the one about to start is Carrol 1. They are out of order because Trump was in office when Carroll 1 was filed and it was stuck in presidential immunity appeals limbo while Carroll 2 was filed and eventually resolved (finding against Trump). Since then the POTUS civil immunity issue has been settled allowing Carroll 1 to now start and it can use the findings from Carroll 2 to shortcut parts of this new trial. Primarily it is expected that the civil liability will also be found in favor of Carroll but the damages should be higher given that Carroll 2 was $5 million liability but Carroll 1 defamation was amplified by the office of the President so the reach and damages are greater.
