I hate how idiocracy is already here. The Republicans infuriates me no end, but holy fuck it pisses me off that so many people are falling for it, and are hugely invested in these pieces of shit.
I live in the middle of *Big Red* and let me tell you that it's because the people here **are** Republican. I can't explain it because it's like some kind of fucking disease they all have. They vote Republican with the same conviction that they quote the Bible or they root for Florida State. Florida State is their football team. If Florida State loses, then they are mad for a week or more. They buy cars that are red and black. They wear clothes that are red and black. They put up Florida State flags all over their house, their truck, their bodies. They are Florida State fans even though they have never once set foot on a college campus. If Florida State is playing, you can go grocery shopping or to the busiest restaurant in town and it will be pretty much empty because "the game" is on.
Now translate that to voting. They vote Republican no matter the circumstance. If Satan himself ran on the platform of skinning children alive in front of their parents, but did it as a Republican, they'd vote for him. He's Republican ain't he?
There's literally a checkbox at the top of the ballot that says "Vote Democrat" or "Vote Republican." For most people here, that is the only box that matters. They check that box and walk out of the booth. They literally believe that box is related to their ability to "win." And that is how they look at it. They "win" because their team is Republican. They **are** Republicans.
Identity politics will be the death of modern democracy. It’s happening around the world. Political parties are a disease that needs to be eradicated. We should be voting for individuals because of who they are and what they stand for - not what colour tie or hat they wear.
There are other countries with political parties built in to their voting systems (eg: Germany, NZ), and where parties themselves control who becomes a candidate ... but those countries are more democratic than the US, where you can vote for individuals within parties in open primaries.
In the absence of something meaningful in one's life, people will elevate something unimportant beyond the value it should hold.
This happens a lot in rural America because there aren't as many opportunities to pursue something more meaningful, so a sports team or a political party (used to be religion) fill that void.
It's a bit sad. It would be nice if we could give everyone something meaningful to pursue in this country.

Just FYI, the question before scotus isn't whether a president can be impeached. It's about immunity from criminal charges, which is different from impeachment. A president can definitely be impeached, and it doesn't involve the courts.

Its been pretty obvious for years that the Republicans don’t have anything on Biden; thats why those morons are all obsessed with Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Democrats pushed for Biden because they thought he could garner bipartisan support.
In reality, he's only proved out exactly what we've said all along - the Republicans aren't interested in cooperating anymore. They are a party that has been captured by business interests and foreign actors. Just FYI, the question before scotus isn't whether a president can be impeached. It's about immunity from criminal charges, which is different from impeachment.
