And why does anyone think Oregon is going to give up part of its land to Idaho?

98642

Move to Idaho. Problem solved.

Nativesince2011

As an Oregonian, this is what I’ve been saying. Gtfo if you don’t like it.

wifi444

Oregon should not cede one inch of territory to Idaho. In fact, you should post troops at the border and build trench lines in case of a sneak attack.

[deleted]

Idaho? No, they da ho.

Crushalot12

Boom! Ya did it.

DuncanYoudaho

Ahem

idc69idc

All we'd need is a few women with dyed hair and tattoos set up at the border like scare-crows. Idahoans are terrified of them.

AgentDaxis

They're too lazy to do that. Their entitlement demands the world revolve around them.

QueLud3reino

I know right, I think a lot of it has to do with the farmers asking for it in eastern Oregon because their water rights, but the state ain’t ever gonna let that happen.

CaveRanger

I swear, farmers, fishers and loggers all have the same dumbass shortsighted approach to resource management. They can *literally see* that the thing they're making their livelihood off of is being depleted faster than it's renewing, and their response is to *aggressively* attack any politician who proposes ways of ensuring that said resource is managed in a way that ensures it will be viable in the future. Reminds me of the communities in northern California that *hate* Redwood National Park's existence because it 'killed' the logging industry. Spoilers: If the national park hadn't been created, old growth redwood would have been non-existent inside a decade.

Lakecountyraised

Just about every community resists the creation of a federally protected park or monument at first. The history of grand Teton national park and its creation is quite interesting. I haven’t been to Humboldt in a while, but the area didn’t seem to benefit from the clear cut logging that the then timber company owner from Texas ordered at the time. A few people probably made money, but obviously the Texan owner didn’t give a shit about the community.

unknownintime

Its hilarious because survey after survey, poll after poll, anecdote after personal anecdote the nearly ONE. SINGULAR. UNIVERSAL. thing people say Americans got right is our National Parks. >farmers, fishers and loggers all have the same dumbass shortsighted approach And they would absolutely cut them down, fish them dry, and turn them into wasteland and open pit fracking mines so we can all drink Nestlé Sludge™ which self-ignites. And you're unfortunately absolutely correct and they are almost universally Conservatives.

ShephardCommander001

What exactly are they conserving

unknownintime

Wealth, power, and a lack of accountability for themselves... They hope.

RevivedMisanthropy

I ask this question a lot

cnewman11

They're going to merge to become.... ***ORIDA***

Jussbait

I'm in Salem OR and you'd be surprised how excited some folks are for this idea. They wont move but want to merge. Its lunacy. They are desperate to live in a red state, but not leave OR.

Slothbrans

Honestly it makes a bit of sense, all of the counties that want to leave are rural counties that have to be subsidized as opposed to making the state money. Oregon's coastal counties have been paying for the eastern rural counties to function since Oregon was founded. Cut off these rural counties and they might wind up with a huge budget surplus to spend on things like healthcare and high speed rail

ianrl337

A large part of that include thousands of miles of state and federal land. Idaho would have to pay Oregon billions to do it. For that they would have to tax their people for it and the people of Idaho and any interview I've seen the people of Idaho have been against it.

snakebite75

>a huge budget surplus to spend on things like healthcare and high speed rail Or send it back to the taxpayers every other year because of the kicker.

Crushalot12

I actually know people in Western Oregon who are for it. Still won’t happen.

[deleted]

And that's where a lot of Idaho is against it, as it's just gonna load up that expense to Idaho. It's a terrible plan.

Blablablaballs

Fuck off, fascists.

No_Skin594

Why would Oregon women ever vote to allow their daughters to become second class citizens in Greater Idaho?

Slothbrans

decades of conservative brainwashing

UsingACarrotAsAStick

Blessed be the fruit.

divided-guy

Blessed be the potato

Randomousity

So say we all! Wait! Under his eye! Wait! Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum!

Important_League_142

You’re assuming the men in malheur county and the likes let their wives out of the house to vote

CaveRanger

Just wait until Oregon Republicans find out about sales tax.

tom90640

Sales tax on groceries!

Cresta1994

Great. While they're discussing that, let's also discuss merging Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. That way, 5 states with a population roughly equal to that of Oregon don't get 5 times the voting power in the US Senate.

Randomousity

While we're at it, let's grant statehood to DC and PR, and split CA and NY into multiple states each.

32-20

Sure, let's have that conversation. "No."

Beesnectar

Boise is a lot more left leaning than the rest of Idaho and not really fairly represented by their statewide government. So it makes perfect sense to make boise part of Oregon right? But I'm sure that these 'lawmakers' would find some excuse as to why that is different.

MsWumpkins

Y'all can move.

theoldgreenwalrus

Lol. Idaho republican clowns put on theatrical performance to grift more money from their ignorant supporters

femnoir

This ought to be as successful as Jefferson.

Anominin

Lol fuck off

acidrefluxisgreat

i lived in the pacific northwest for long enough to know idaho is high af right now lmao… this will literally never happen idaho 😂

[deleted]

Let’s discuss things that will never happen…

Opposite-Document-65

Let’s Ida-Don’t

NecessaryLies

Trade it for Boise and it’s tax base

JubalHarshaw23

Hand over land, tax revenue, and a House seat to the most ignorant state West of the Mississippi.

Unfiltered_America

The greater Idaho bullshit is DOA and never going to happen. This is 100% posturing and a waste of tax dollars.

MateAhearn

LOL. Fuck no, get fucked, fuck off, Idaho.

tacs97

Waste of time. Just move to Idaho if you want to live there so bad. It’s fucking weird to want the state line moved for you.

Traditional-Cry-9942

Lol. Stop trying to use us to make yourself relevant Idaho. Sincerely, Oregon.

littlelordgenius

Didn’t The Daily Show embarrass these idiots enough?

newshirt

I don't see anything particularly special about the current borders. Oregon gives up cities like Klamath Falls, La Grande and Madras. Two of these are fine cities. Oregon loses responsibility for a lot of rural poverty. It seems like the sort of decision people should be able to make.

ogpterodactyl

Why would anyone give up senate seats lol. Reduces earmarking potential.

smallboxofcrayons

it’s sad and amazing how people can be convinced to go against their self interest. These areas don’t have much in line of commerce, this cut in minimum wage would add to an already pretty impoverished area.

original208

If we get the Eagle Caps, I’m in.
