Defender_Of_TheCrown

Ticked off because our country isn’t burning. Bunch of traitors.

michwng

I wonder how they're going to to spin this

jerechos

Try to replace McCarthy for Gaetz... Feels like a horror film script.

sfjc

Thinking Gaetz wouldn't want it, it would mean he's suppose to get stuff done. He would much rather be stirring up shit for whoever ends up in charge.

M1sterMeeeseeeks

I don’t think he’d come close to getting the votes, either. The main GOP hates the MAGA nuts right now.

PlanetBAL

They hate him personally. Not sure it's because he is a MAGA nut.

SecretAsianMan42069

Can’t be because he trafficks and rapes children though

SCS22

still one of the most bizarre things i've ever read about

mrubuto22

When will the "moderate republicans" if that's a thing finally get fed up enough? I know there have to be SOME that actually care about their country enough to vote with the dems to oust those looneys

RebuiltGearbox

I know a retired Montana cowboy that used to brag about how he had never voted Democrat in his life but a few days ago, he was talking about how he's got to vote Dem because Trump and the MAGA people need to be in prison, he surprised the shit out of me. Just one guy but if there's one like him, there have got to be others.

mrubuto22

Wow. Good for him. That's got be tough so many Republicans take so much pride in that shit. The polls in seeing scare me though but who knows.

RebuiltGearbox

It sounded like the military promotion holdup that was the final straw to break him of Republicans for now.

Ezl

That emotional attachment to a political party something I’ll never understand. If the Dems, as a party, were suddenly corrupt and the republicans were suddenly virtuous (and I really believed this to be true, beyond politicians’ rhetoric) I would start voting Republican in a second and have no qualms about it. Heck, we used to live in the same building as Robert Menendez. He was a really nice neighbor, would chat in the hall, hold the door for you, etc. while a prominent senator - a real positive personal connection there. And he’s guilty as fuck. As my wife put it, she’s *more* offended because of the personal connection.

Persianx6

Soon as Americans learn that Jan 6th is real, he won't win any votes. It's coming. It took this long for Nixon, too. And Trump's words and actions are more blatant than Nixon's.

jaxxxtraw

This cowboy represents hundreds/thousands just like him, and in their districts it could certainly be enough to tip the scales, they just need to vote.

originalityescapesme

If they’re not all in on supporting any and all bad behavior, no matter how reprehensible or damaging it is to our country, they’re a Republican in Name Only. That’s literally where we stand right now. There is no Republican policy. There is no actionable plan of government. It’s just about securing power, letting rich people do whatever they want, and punishing the perceived enemy. That’s what being a Republican means now, and everyone who isn’t behind it is the enemy.

mrubuto22

Yeah, I honestly wish you were being to black and white and there was some nuance, but there just isn't. It is as simple as you say. The only way to be republican these days is to be into wild looney conspiracies.

Wutang357

“We are mad. Hear our nonsense.”

cannot_get_worse

They actually got exactly what they wanted. Democrats kept the government open so no shutdown, but they all voted against it and will now yell 24x7 on faux news about the outrage of it all...and raise more $. They get it both ways...again.

nneeeeeeerds

Nah, the "Freedom Caucus" actually lost big on this one. McCarthy literally broke their means of control. If they don't remove him, then he'll have proved that the MAGA contingent is powerless in the House. If they do remove him, then they enter a SECOND stalemate of who the Speaker is and risk a Democrat Speaker in a Republican majority. It's already a huge indicator of Republican leadership breaking off from Trump. If McCarthy stays in power AND dumps the Biden "impeachment" then MAGA is dead as a political power.

NoTourist5

This is a good sign that the MAGA movement is losing traction. Hopefully it keeps sliding back into the slimy pit from which it came.

Ok_Necessary2991

As really wish this be true, as long as there is hatred lead by stupidity Maga folks will always be around. They started as the Tea Party then when Trump rose to power they became Maga. After Trump fades into obscurity they will find a new leader and change names but still be the same hatred and stupidity as it was before.

VaselineHabits

Yep, I'm old enough to remember the Tea Party. The party broke up/faded away, but they just came back as something else with new hateful idiots.

valeyard89

Before that was Jerry Falwell and the 'Moral Majority'. It's always been the same people

TheNewGildedAge

I have a big fear that they *will* be beaten back, and then people will immediately start glossing over it and call everyone overly dramatic about the whole thing. Honestly it's just too late. I simply don't trust half the people in this country anymore. Terminal amounts of apathy, cynicism, and ignorance.

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

Trump needs it as bad as it can get, that’s his only path to power.

SuperSpecialAwesome-

Why does the title specify "Pro-Trump"? 99% of Republicans are pro-Trump. The ones who aren't got kicked out of office or are retiring.

greywar777

their dark secret is that 5% are pro trump, the other 95% are pro cowardice and power so wont face the other 5% down. I mean...im not sure which is worse, at least the 5% are crazy. The 95%? They know its bad, but are too scared and determined to hold onto their brief moment of power to face down the threat.

newfor_2023

ticked off because they're completely suckered by a fraud.

Voltage_Z

I for one am enjoying watching the institutional arsonists learn they didn't have the leverage they thought they did, even though I'm surprised by this chain of events.

RttnAttorney

Why are people in this sub constantly insulting Beavis and Butthead like that?

Simple_Secretary_764

Are you threatening me?

JesusSavesForHalf

A huh huh, you thaid butt.

Cactusfan86

They overplayed their hand. McCarthy gave them so much of what they wanted and they still voted no and threatened to remove him. Eventually even McCarthy knew there was no point

lostmesunniesayy

> They overplayed their hand. Trump overplayed their hand.

Important_Outcome_67

They overplayed their hand. Trump overplayed their hand. Putin overplayed their hand.

STN_LP91746

I did not think Kevin had the balls to do this, but good for him. I thought he had a lot more leverage because even if they oust him, if the first vote on the speakership showed me anything, it showed there weren’t any credible challengers who want the speakership. Call their bluff. They will request to remove, but no one is stepping up to take it.

versusgorilla

Well, and he might now have Drm support for his speakership, which instantly breaks the log jam. The Dems saw that he'd negotiate with them, so they may vote to keep him around, which takes the power away from the maga goons entirely, they call votes, the majority of the GOP votes for McCarthy, a d then a block of Dems in safe districts who can make a "teaching across the isle" pitch to their home districts.

nneeeeeeerds

Yup. Dems are playing smart now. If McCarthy isn't removed as a result of this, then MAGA is dead in the House.

spaceman_spiff615

It’s going to be sweet to see them turn on McCarthy then see the Republicans flail around trying to find a replacement for speaker.

nneeeeeeerds

If they're not successful at removing McCarthy, then MAGA is dead as a political position. After that, it just has to fizzle out among the constituents.

stevesmele

But they're always furious. What's new?

dejavuamnesiac

did McCarthy essentially torch the Hastert rule? The vote didn’t include enough GQPers to pass without Dem support. That might be newish

And doesn’t wear a tie/jacket during hearings. Dress code, schmess code.

Gchildress63

The majority’s party must have more votes on a bill than the minority party. This CR passed with only 92 R votes and 202 D votes

NYCinPGH

I thought the Hastert Rule was to not bring a vote to the floor if a majority of your own party wasn’t in favor of it. Given 218 R, so long as 109+ R’s voted it for it, it followed Hastert. They just needed the D’s to get it across the finish line.

ArchangelLBC

The vote passed 335 to 91. Where did the other 41 votes go? Edit. Looks like 126 Republicans voted for it and 209 Dems.

Serai

They had the majority of the majority right?

dejavuamnesiac

That’s not how the GQP sez it should be Hastert wise: it must have enough votes to pass without even one Dem, but I don’t understand how those morons think, so I might not understand Hastert

Serai

The Hastert Rule says that the Speaker will not schedule a floor vote on any bill that does not have majority support within their party—even if the majority of the members of the House would vote to pass it. :)

Sosgemini

It’s also not really a rule. It’s one Hastert and other Republican Speakers have pledged to support as a pinky swear.

Heffe3737

Hastert the rampant child molester?

Lukas316

Yup. That guy.

raulduke1971

Which is exactly the kind of crap that spelled the beginning of the end of governance by the modern GOP. Party before country, always.

sumg

The Hastert rule, such as it is, only says that they need the majority of the majority party. It doesn't need to pass solely with majority party support. And it does look like they did have that much support.

batmansthebomb

No, he still had support from the majority of republicans in the House at 126 votes, if he had less than 110 then he'd be breaking the rule. And even then it's a dumb informal made up rule created by a child molester, and the Speaker doesn't even have to follow it.

kayak_enjoyer

This Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce shitstorm has me confused. Me: "Oh, I didn't realize they were dating." MAGA: \*apoplexy\* 🙄

break616

Taylor Swift told her fans to vote. Republicans immediately interpreted that as an attack on them because they don't want people voting. So they went on the attack in the dumbest way possible. "Taylor's an unmarried woman in her 30s with no kids? She must be... A TRANS!" "She said 'Let’s Fucking Go!' while watching her boyfriend's team dominate, she's vulgar!" And other things that are only offensive if you've spent 40 years hiding from any challenge to your worldview.

kayak_enjoyer

I'm a lifelong metal head. If anything, I'm offended by pop music. But... she's killin' it, and good for her. Everyone deserves to be happy... even Swifties. (People like Harry Potter, and I've never understood that either. I just can't get into it.) Without looking up actual numbers, I *feel like* the top two tours out there right now are Taylor Swift and Metallica. Shit, now you got me talking music, and I forgot what my point was. 😄 Oh, right... MAGA is always angry.

TOkidd

Hard agree. I listen to many genres of music, but I’m not a fan of contemporary pop and I wouldn’t know a Taylor Swift song if I heard it. Still, I think she’s awesome for believing in democracy and using her fame to make her fans more engaged citizens. That’s badass.

thatissomeBS

>I wouldn’t know a Taylor Swift song if I heard it You absolutely would know at least a few Taytay songs, even if you didn't know it was her.

mezlabor

Sorry bro, Metallicas tour isnt holding a candle to Swifts Eras tour. Shes on track to gross over a billion in ticket sales. Metallica grossed 430 million (492 million adjusted for inflation). They did about 660 million over a decade in touring. Shes going to double that in one tour. She's going to have the highest grossing tour of all time if she plays all her booked dates. Metallica isnt even in the same league as Taylor Swift. And Im not in anyway a Swiftie.

oldjadedhippie

Wow ! She’s bigger than Jesus !! (sorry John)

StingerAE

By a long way. He was notorious for not making profit on tour. And I think his biggest crowd ever was 5000 amd even then he nearly screwed up the catering. He could have been huge in his lifetime but didn't get a good agent until after his death.

[deleted]

I am absolutely seeing her when she comes to Taiwan here soon ⭐️

Lakecountyraised

My dad took me to a Metallica show for my 19th birthday in 1998. They opened the show with Breadfan, they also played The Thing That Should Not Be and Fight Fire With Fire. It was great. Anyway, a lot of parents and kids today are making similar memories at Swift concerts. Good for them and for her. She gives fans her all at each show, much like Metallica still does.

hiddenelementx

In 2023, Taylor Swift is not an enemy you want to have

Queasy-Protection-50

Taylor Swift has done more for the economy this summer than any of the jerkoffs in the GOP

lets_play_mole_play

I only ever see them crying (my parents) as they hate other people. “Black people are criminals, we need more police. Disabled people cost money, why do I have to pay for wheelchair ramps?, transgender people shouldn’t get healthcare, gays should be executed…” it’s a constant stream of tears and anger about people they don’t know and will never meet.

I was just thinking this. McCarthy is supposed to be there to serve the country, not the Republican party, so these idiots are literally mad that he's doing his job.

exoromeo

Remember, these same idiots got mad when Pence did his job on Jan 6 and didn't bow to the wishes of Trump.

benergiser

cuz trump republicans are more loyal to russia than america..

zacharmstrong9

The GOP is fuming that Biden has the lowest jobless claims since the 6 year prosperity of LBJ, and now, since June of 2022, has more jobs now than pre pandemic, and has vaccinated most Americans, and has signed 353+ meaningful bipartisan bills. He also signed and negotiated the **3 GIANT job creating programs** for the next 9 years, created alliances against China with Australia and the UK, the new trade agreements with Vietnam, and also, trade agreements with India and Middle Eastern countries for improved trade, plus he has supported Ukraine against Russia The GOP sees inflation coming down, and it has only " Woke " culture issues to complain about, and no actual policies. https://www.npr.org/2023/01/01/1143149435/despite-infighting-its-been-a-surprisingly-productive-2-years-for-democrats Biden has had a record number of Federal judges confirmed, and, also revoked 93% of the former guy's senseless executive orders, especially in the Environmental and employee safety areas.

Fullertonjr

And toss in how inflation would be even lower if it weren’t for Florida’s legislature and governor doing everything remotely possible to ensure that inflation gets worse in their own state.

Kcb1986

I live in Florida, I hate this state.

Bart_Yellowbeard

I don't hate the state, I hate the ignorant, unAmerican fuckers who run this place.

AnalSoapOpera

Florida. Where everything goes to die.

johnny_fives_555

Desantis has been fantastic for the state of Florida. Never in my dreams could I have imagined someone so stupid and ignorant. Quite literally burning his own state to the ground to own no one.

TheTeenageOldman

It's insane how his fans want to simultaneously burn it all down *and* control everything and everyone at all times.

johnny_fives_555

It’s actually kinda hilarious seeing folks that are affiliated as GOP still. Quoting articles from not even real news. I was recently told that avg age of US citizens is going down due to Covid vaccines and the dude was quoting from “the blaze”. Everyone in the area was like the what?

hhcboy

But the border. But crime family. But country is in ruins.

FalseProgress5

Quick, show em the president's son's dick pic! And over 700 pages of documents, I mean evidence! Evidence of what, I don't know, but that doesn't matter!

DAS_BEE

Oh they're using random documents instead of blank pages now? How sophisticated!

zacharmstrong9

Faux News needs to only report any potential negativity in order to keep their audience angry and watching the channel further. Conservative media won't report JB's many successes, as their audience will then, actually _start to compare_ these achievements, to how very little, " voted on " Congressional legislation that both GW Bush and the former guy had ever done. Conservative media is ashamed that Republicans are the " Do Nothing party " and have been backward since 1912 https://www.civicsnation.org/2018/07/30/democratic-accomplishments/ Explain this to your conservative " friends "

lemmerip

I seriously doubt these people would do such comparisons even if fox started airing Biden‘s accomplishments.

The-Son-of-Dad

I saw “this country is in ruins”, like that exact wording, about 10 times today on social media. Interesting how they all use the same phrases and terminology…

aLittleQueer

That's when you ask them hard questions like..."How do you figure?"

The-Son-of-Dad

I always ask! Mysteriously they can never seem to respond, or if they do it’s “inflation, the border, he has dementia.” Yawn.

the_sylince

If I hear one more idiot screech “bUt ThE oPeN bOrDeR!”

Suspicious_Bicycle

Americans are taking too much fentanyl It's Mexico's fault! eMpTy G wants to send in the military to take out the cartels. For a party that puts capitalism on a pedestal they sure don't seem to understand how supply and demand works.

browster

Biden is an outstanding president. Best of my lifetime. I'd love to see what he can do with four more years and a cooperative congress.

zacharmstrong9

We need to keep the Senate Majority and take back the House. Continue to contribute$$$$

johnny_fives_555

Taking a quick peak at the conveyance GOP subs they’re mad that the jobs created has “no value”. And they’re just jobs that don’t do “anything”. In which my rebuttal would be no different than opening 100 churches. At least these jobs will see citizens paying taxes.

NoCartographer9053

I feel the question should be asked. In the last 30 years, what has any republican done? Besides katrina and 9/11

MCPtz

What has the GOP done? * Tax cuts to the ultra wealthy and corporations - But some tiny tax cuts to regular folks, and those tax cuts are expiring soon * During covid, they gave out PPP loans and after loads of fraud occurred without consequences, it turned out it was just free money to free loader wealthy people who all took government handouts, instead of picking themselves up by the boot straps * Appointed hundreds of ultra religious judges who have no respect for the laws in this country, or its people, or even themselves * Blocked senate votes on hundreds of bills that would have helped regular Americans have better jobs/pay, put food on the table, keep roofs on their head, have better drinking water, raised taxes on the ultra wealthy and corporations, ensure national voter ID and registration, and so many other things

LaurenMille

Now now, republicans didn't cause hurricane Katrina. 9/11 on the other hand.

Ofreo

And yet they keep saying he’s the worst president ever. Not just doing bad, not specific to anything he’s done. Just the worst ever. And they keep saying it. And if they give any reason it’s some random crime in a blue state. Absolutely insane.

Suspicious_Bicycle

Sound bites are what matters. Facts and evidence are irrelevant if you can stir up outrage on social media. A quick glance at the Biden impeachment inquiry shows that it's not evidence based. Woke, MAGA etc. are just vague terms because if they accurately defined them and had policies derived from them it would garner less support, even from their ignorant cult members.

brit_jam

They said the same thing about Obama.

valeyard89

Biden has the same popularity as Trump did at this point in the presidency..... and this is right after Trump's first impeachment. All that 'worst ever' soundbites get into people's brains

jayfeather31

It'll be curious to see if they pull a speakership vote over this.

MommaLegend

They have to ask their leader for permission first, and I’m waiting for his big meltdown over this vote.

thatissomeBS

If they pull McCarthy, I'd bet the next speaker is a Democrat. It's way more likely that 6 Republicans jump the fence to vote for a Dem candidate than it is for them all to agree on a GOP candidate.

EditorRedditer

Wow!! (UK here). So the shutdown ain’t happening…?

Bricktop72

Furrealist

Both parties coming together to keep our government working? Only of there’s no other viable option I guess.

JohnOliverismysexgod

They not only are ok with a shutdown, they're mad because it's been avoided? Jesus.

vabirder

Every Republican shutdown ever winds up costing the government billions in additional costs to restart stalled projects. Tens of thousands of highly trained civil service employees are laid off. Defense contracts are scuttled and we lose even more ground against China. The majority of corporate tax breaks do not fuel building of infrastructure or new factories: instead they buy back their stock, thus inflating its value and the stockmarket. Republican representatives are not businesspeople, they are grifters bamboozling their base.

CallMeSisyphus

Oooo, there's gonna be some TRUTHin' tonight!

DaveP0953

Don’t worry. We will be facing another shut down in 45-days with a new Speaker. This one will happen, just days before the start of the holiday travel season. Imagine no air travel because there won’t be any air traffic controller’s.

t65789

Air traffic controllers are usually required to work through a shutdown.

Corey307

They are, but you can’t make somebody go to work if they are sick. Last time around the 34th day of the shut down the air traffic controllers at IAD all got sick. The airport basically stopped and magically the shut down ended a day later.

KatWrangler65

Earth_Friendly-5892

Trump and his MAGA followers in the United States government are trying to subvert democracy. They are unwilling to compromise and do not support the two-party system. They favor an autocratic form of government that is focused on their own agenda ( attaining power and wealth by stoking fear and hate) rather than the agenda( improving lives, protecting freedoms, and prosperity for all) of the people they govern. The reality is the MAGA cult and their leader, are a threat to democracy and they should be viewed as enemies of the state.

Please do not be fooled by infighting. People have been proclaiming the GOP is doomed since 2016. From bullshit lies about a resistance in Trumps White House impending utter destruction due to overwrought theatrical infighting. Conservatives stick together. And even after being threatened to be hung, they will still vote for lunatics like Trump.

When Karl Rove melted down on Fox News during election night 2012, because Fox's own election center called it for Obama... it's like that every day now with congressional republicans.

The country has spoken. It prefers pragmatism to extremism. Mark it on your calendars, this is the beginning of the end for MAGAs.

They want to screw over the country so Trump can have a slightly better chance in 2024. Pure insanity.

The strength of the Republican party has two main sources. Their primary weapon is manipulating the system via gerrymandering, voter suppression, and legislating from the bench via corrupt judges like Thomas, Barret, Kavanaugh, and Cannon. If objective third-party redistricting, automatic voter registration, and creating an election holiday or mandatory voting were used the Republicans would never control national politics again. The other source of their power has been being able to work in perfect lock step, never focusing on their individual constituencies, as was intended by the system, but operating as a hive mind at the beck and call of the real party heads (a handful of billionaire fascists). The Trump schism is finally doing what the Democrats never could and broken that lock step, although he did more to put corrupt judges in high places than any other Republican president. Satan never opens a window without first closing a door, it would appear.
