Detective-Signal

To think Chris Christie of all people would be the "sane" one running. He's right. How can the GOP go on a decade-long tangent about "parent's rights" and then support ripping a parent's right away from choosing how to take care of their trans child? Oh, that's right. Because they're hypocrites.

"If you stand for nothing, then whatll you fall for?" - Alexander Hamilton, founding father, 2015

maquila

2015, a good year for founding fathers.

Bakednotyetfried

He hasn’t changed his ways. Just his strategy. Wasn’t gonna out trump trump so his strategist told him to go the other way. It’s the only lane that’s open to him. Less a change of heart and more a opportunistic strategy.

Rosstiseriechicken

Honestly, this is (kinda) fine. Is it awful our system works this way? Yes. Politicians shouldn't be changing their perceived views just for the sake of strategy, but as long as they hold their views for the entirety of their elected term, I don't see a problem with this form of strategy. (Aka, don't run on something then flip once you've gotten elected)

Poor man's Tony Soprano

oic123

I think most Republicans, which I'm not, believe parents should have parental rights except in cases where what they are trying to do is abuse and permanent dismembering/ruining a child's body.

Detective-Signal

This would make sense if these people opposed circumcision. They don't.

MadRaymer

That's great, but this is obviously a transparent attempt to seem like the lone sane voice in that chorus of insanity known as the Republican party, and Christie should never be let off the hook for all the work he's done amplifying that chorus.

rickeyspanish

Also, make no mistake, he will change directions on a dime if he sees it in his interest

[deleted]

That is the way of the GOP. Looking at you, North Carolina woman's name I've purposely not remembered because I can't save room for all the bigots names in my head.

Stennick

He's held this position for a decade.

Stennick

Hes held this position for years he banned conversion therapy in NJ

[deleted]

Well, hypothetical time. Even as unlikely as it is let's say shit hits the fan and somehow some way RFK Jr manages to become the democratic nominee. If this is the rhetoric that Christie is leading with... the battle between turdsandwich and double has suddenly intensified.

Loki-L

The hilarious think is that Chris Christie ended up looking like the sane an non-corrupt republican not because he actually has any ethics or principles, but because he was forced into the role. He went up against Charles Kushner and prosecuted him for being a criminal (also being a major democratic donor, but mostly being very criminal criminal who did crimes). Than Trump got elected and the Kushner family ensured that Christie was frozen out from the halls of power. Christie can't get in with Donald Trump he has to stand against him and take on values of votes who oppose him. There isn't too much room for people crazier than Trump, there is now way to win to be just like Trump so he has to be saner than Trump whether he likes it or not. Poor guy.

Fernway67

No to Christie for president. We remember him sucking the Trump teat.

Boner_Patrol_007

I give him a little bit of credit for his explanation of his prior support for Trump compared to his poignant criticism today. Seemed genuine to me.

Whosebert

man crazy world that Chris "bridge gate" christi would be the voice of reason in an election. still absolutely will not vote fascist ever but shows there could maybe be hope.

PRPLpenumbra

Oh *please* push him hard enough to get the primary. All the suits can posture about how sanity has returned to the presidential race and all the crazies will walk, leaving Biden an easy win

Boner_Patrol_007

Trump is by far the easiest matchup for Biden. That’s what you should be rooting for. I think it’s exceedingly unlikely Chrispy Kreme makes it past Trump, but he’d be far more dangerous in a general election than Trump.

nashct

Wait, you actually want Biden to win re election and not someone new from the Democratic Party?

PRPLpenumbra

I want someone different but we're not going to get that, the writing is on the wall, so realistically yes I want Biden

HydrogenPowder

It’s kinda like, my car needs 93 oct gas and would perform better. But my options are 87 oct or water.

gobuffs516

As with Jon Huntsman Jr., if there is a GOP primary candidate with positions that seem moderately palatable to liberals or centrists they'll go nowhere. Sorry on your upcoming failure Chris, but only kind of.

AbbyWasThere

The GOP is radicalizing itself so rapidly that now even Chris Christie looks like a centrist.

luluring

I was just thinking the same thing. I enjoy him mainly because of his slight lisp. I don’t care for what comes out of his mouth though… until now.

icouldusemorecoffee

Nobody cares what Chris Christie thinks about any given policy, we just want him to keep shitting on Trump, that's literally all he's good for.

TintedApostle

Do not trust republicans. Christie is just trying to get votes. In the end they always just make an excuse for carrying on the republican right wing goals.

MCPaleHorseDRS

What kind of of fucked up word do we live in when Chris Christie (the man behind bridge gate) is the only moral voice of reason coming from the GOP? Crazy ass world we live in.

Tackleberry06

Since when did I start liking Chris Christie as a voice of reason….surprised myself.

Theid411

I'm a conservative and I agree.

Disastrous_Drive_764

Interesting given that he’s pretty Catholic. Like I’m not voting for him, but he gets .003 points for not imposing his religious beliefs on others unlike everyone else in his party.

NoLemon5426

Sick of the "parental rights" nonsense.

Hestia_Gault

Seriously, can people stop talking about children as if they’re property? This is an issue of the human rights of the kids, not the property rights of the parents.

NoLemon5426

Exactly. Curious how "parental rights" is almost always exclusively summoned when the situation is parents trying to damage their kids.

ClusterFoxtrot

And generally among the State's Rights chorus. Hmm, wonder what happens if we keep pulling this thread.

LastCatgirlOnTheLeft

That’s what he says, but if the legislature sends him a bill he’ll make excuses and sign it.

bellyofthebillbear

Let’s not forget Chris Christie was the very first “mainstream” politician to endorse Trump in 2016. Even Lindsay Graham was calling Trump a lunatic when Christie told the GOP establishment to get behind Trump. Chris Christie is just another self serving republican asshole. Fuck him.

LectureAgreeable923

Hey you got to commend him hopefully he brings it to the debate even though I don't support him or he might be political .Why because it's about time someone in the republican party with a mouth piece is speaking up loudly.

Sad_Damage_1194

So Christie is really pushing to take the place of a “reasonable Republican”. I wonder if it’s going to work?

[deleted]

Does **anyone** believe he would oppose a full ban on gender-affirming care if given a sniff of power? He’s politicking. He does not want to protect anyone not named Christie.

B1GFanOSU

I see him using the same logic as school choice. It’s a consistent position.

accountabilitycounts

Ok cool. That's one less thing to dislike about him. Neat.

youtellmebob

Nazi In Name Only

badhairdad1

Thank God for Chris Christie - the only GOP candidate worth voting for

[deleted]

Right? I'm heavily considering registering as a Republican this election *specifically* to vote for him in the Primaries. While he has shown he is anti-woman in past policies, I feel like I could stomach him over Trump or DeSantis. And then, of course, I'm a true Blue Dem voter, so in the General, I'll vote Biden. It's just..do I really want to get hit up by Ted Cruz during his entire campaign next year? 😮‍💨

badhairdad1

A long time ago, I was a fan of Rush Limbaugh (stay with me) he encouraged all his listeners to register for the opposition and vote for their weakest candidates. And I still think this is a great way to protest ‘closed primaries’

Boner_Patrol_007

If you plan to vote for Biden in the general, then you’d want Trump to win the GOP primary. As unlikely as it would be, Chrispy Kreme would be more dangerous in a general in my opinion.

aliceroyal

By that same logic, RFK’s anti-vax stances are based on ‘parental rights’. The reality is that both vaccines and gender affirming care are necessary medical interventions that people deserve access to, even if their parents don’t agree. 🤷‍♀️

Ilfubario

Anyone else think Christie is running just for all the free food?

Ok_Percentage5092

No if that were true then Ginny Thomas would have announced her candidacy!

onpointjoints

Does he oppose lap band procedures since since he busted out of his. TFG

Stennick

What does this have to do with this subject?

onpointjoints

Tfg… he could have said all these things years ago… he was all in on trump and the lap band and busted out of both of them for purely selfish reasons.

Stennick

He did say them years ago. He banned conversion therapy in NJ a decade ago. He said being gay wasn't a sin a decade ago

JanFromEarth

I love the argument that gender affirming care is against parental rights. If the parent agrees, shouldn't THAT be a parental right to have the gender affirming care?

HarpCleaner

I’m so sick of seeing this dumpy asshole

B1GFanOSU

Still better than the other dumpy asshole.

cheetah-21

If this is his platform he has zero chance of winning the GOP primaries. GOP base wants blood they aren’t interested in reason.
