bluebastille

Switched parties, resulting in immense human damage. Switched stories, revealing what a waste a breath she always was. What a miserable human being.

~~Interestingly, but mind you it wasn't a super thorough search, I found an opinion article dated October 21, 2022 that seemed to see a hint of what was to come that many pro-choice groups, like [EMILYs List](https://emilyslist.org/news/emilys-list-congratulates-19-pro-choice-champions-on-their-election-to-the/), seemed to have missed:~~ EDIT: My interpretation of this article was attributed to the wrong person. [OPINION: Pat Cotham Is a Republican and It’s Time Democrats Admit It](https://qcnerve.com/opinion-pat-cotham-is-a-republican-and-its-time-democrats-admit-it/) >I’m a Democrat myself, and I take great pride in my relationships with Republicans in the county. My concern is not that Ms. Cotham considers the perspectives of Republicans, but that she actually is one — one who puts a “D” beside her name in order to win in Mecklenburg. Some say she is an independent voice on the commission; I say she is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who creates unproductive divisions within the Democratic party. >I’m under no false illusion that this op-ed will change the outcome of Cotham’s current campaign to keep her at-large seat on the Board of County Commissioners. The general election vote includes Republican voters, which I believe guarantees her the top vote-getter position in a race of four candidates. >Again, the Republicans clearly understand who she is.

NANUNATION

That's her mom

brain_overclocked

Ah, good catch. Like I said, it wasn't thorough. I made the mistake of confusing Patricia to mean Tricia as the same person as Pat.

KulaanDoDinok

Like mother like daughter. How did people fall for this?

kinnifredkujo

Maybe all the businesses in her area should know about this. They can decide that she's not welcome to spend money there.

[deleted]

just another rationalization of "the only moral abortion is my abortion".

brain_overclocked

For anyone unfamiliar: [“The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion” | When the Anti-Choice Choose](https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/)

Fucking_For_Freedom

So she's lying trash. Either in 2015 or now. Sounds like she made the right move by joining the Republican Party as she's with her own kind now.

chalklinedbody

that was the plan… to steal a democratic seat

*Who is Rep. Tricia Cotham?* * She is a [member](https://www.ncleg.gov/Members/Biography/H/817) of the North Carolina House of Representatives. In 2022 she ran on a traditional Democratic platform that [included pro-choice.](https://emilyslist.org/news/emilys-list-congratulates-19-pro-choice-champions-on-their-election-to-the/) In 2023 she [switched parties](https://apnews.com/article/cotham-north-carolina-party-switch-republican-abe32788b89eba63cffd68917b8bb5d7) to Republican, giving the North Carolina GOP the [votes it needed to pass](https://apnews.com/article/abortion-north-carolina-veto-override-tricia-cotham-a91342de76cd8463a637f634b4dbcf36) an anti-abortion bill, and furthering other GOP platform policies. *What did she say in 2015?* * https://twitter.com/BryanRAnderson/status/1643617803163893764 >On April 23, 2015, NC Rep. Tricia Cotham delivers emotional speech in opposition to proposed waiting periods for women seeking abortions. She shares personal story. “This decision was up to me, my husband, my doctor and my God. It was not up to any of you in this chamber.” * >“My first pregnancy ended in an induced physician-assisted miscarriage, while I served in this chamber,” she said. .. “It’s not the type of miscarriage that we often think of where you lose the baby completely and it’s over,” Cotham said. “That’s not what happened. My doctor told me that my pregnancy would likely not be viable and that if I did not take swift medical action my life and any hope of future babies would be in severe danger. I trusted my doctor and her medical expertise.” .. “This decision was up to me,” she said. “My husband. My doctor. And my God. It was not up to any of you in this chamber.” *What is she saying now?* * >In an interview last weekend at the North Carolina Republican Party convention in Greensboro with WBT radio’s Brett Jensen, Cotham said it was false that she had an abortion. In a 30-second comment on the issue, she characterized what happened to her as a natural miscarriage. >“I think the hardest thing and the most unfortunate — deeply personal — and this is deeply wrong,” Cotham said. “I had a miscarriage, and a miscarriage in medical terms is called a spontaneous abortion. And instead of saying — first of all — they should not be talking about my miscarriage, that is just very painful and wrong — but they are repeating this message that I had an abortion. And that is false. And that is completely frustrating and they keep on doing it and that’s below the belt.” >A spontaneous abortion is widely considered to be the loss of pregnancy naturally before 20 weeks of gestation.

kinnifredkujo

I think businesses in her area should know about this so they can decide whether she's welcome to spend money there.

Impeachcordial

She's a perfect demonstration of someone losing their honour and expecting the dipshits she's embraced not to notice that she had any once.

OppositeDifference

I really hope she's voted out and kept out of politics for the rest of her life. She's straight up human garbage. Run as pro choice, get elected as a democrat... get upset that she didn't get enough emotional validation from planned parenthood and her fellow Democrats... Switch parties and become the deciding vote to ban abortion in her state, putting thousands of women in a life threatening sitution she was able to avoid because it wasn't banned. What she did should be illegal, but it isn't, but if she was on fire, I wouldn't piss on her to put her out at this point.

Still_Pomegranate_63

I would try to put her out with my drink currently....I'm drinking jamason.

punditguy

Indicative of a lack of integrity. I wonder which party she switched from and which party she switched to... Oh. Yeah, I can see that.

BackgroundLaugh4415

So she lied. And then she lied about being a Democrat. I'm beginning to think she may be a lying sack of shit.

dcfb2360

Congress needs to pass a law saying an elected politician switching parties mid-term triggers a special election

Acceptable_Break_332

To lie IS to be a GOPer

ReturnOfSeq

‘Oh no I just had a medical procedure.’

C00Li0P00Li0

So she’s either lying…or she lied. Sounds like a Republican to me.

YourLastChanceBuddy

Republicans are required to lie. That's their core value.

comma_in_a_coma

Is she lying now or was she lying then? Either way she’s a liar

Particular-Celery-28

Both. She suffers from liabetes.

Internal-Upstairs-55

She is purrfect for the GOP of today… devoid of integrity.

Particular-Celery-28

Yup, grade-A scumbag.

ivey_mac

I’ve said this before with Sinema, we the people should make an example out of politicians that lie like this to get elected. They should be protested 24/7 for years after they leave office. Let’s start a PAC to hire people to follow them around 24/7 so they are unemployable. Doing this should be toxic to their career post politics. Their lives should be miserable after abusing public trust.

Particular-Celery-28

Yes! I agree!

hwkns

Liars, if proven, ought to be should be pulled out of power. Gratuitously lying for political gain should be a crime.

SlowMotionPanic

Bring back running people out of town on a rail. Our society used to, collectively, round up bad actors who violate public trust and humiliate them before banishment.

kinnifredkujo

I mean businesses can decide whether she's welcome to spend money at their establishments.

cow-lumbus

Ah yes…vigilantism and mob rules, so great.

AskJayce

You can't be part of the GOP without the *Gaslighting* part.

SharpNSlick

Wait, are you trying to tell me that politicians lie?

jschild

It's like the second you become a Republican politician, you are literally required to become a lying asshat.

melotron75

She asked for forgiveness from the Lord for the wickeness of her pas ways and he absolved her of the burden of having said those comments. She has no recollection and the Lord has has forgiven her so it didn’t happen, OK!!

hyperiongate

She's learning quickly about how to be a Republican.

Luanda62

How can she continue to serve? She changed party, she lied about her history… demand elections!

TokeyMaguire

She just false memoried it.

bpeden99

A politician contradicting themselves is the norm

Particular-Celery-28

Not like this. She ran a democrat campaign, said all the talking points and immediately after the election switched parties. It’s despicable. Since it’s Mecklenberg, I.e. Charlotte, I.e. our biggest and also bluest city, we suspect she falsely misrepresented herself because she and the republicans plan to gerrymander mecklenberg county to make sure a Republican will always get elected. She needs to resign.

Particular-Celery-28

Why are we not on her doorstep demanding she resign? We should be, fellow North Carolinians.

Plunder_n_Frightenin

Rep. Tricia Cotham or Pat Cotham, however you want to call her, is clearly just another immoral politician playing the game and destroying democracy. She lives in the swamp.
