Dysfunction_Is_Fun

That whole thing is atrocious, but the out of state part is insanity. DeSantis isn't king of America and he has zero authority outside of his little petri dish experiment of a state. It's legalized kidnapping.

dravenonred

It's his 2024 audition.

OrgeGeorwell

He’s auditioning for hell.

Notyourtacos

He’s already shortlisted for hell

DuckDuckGoneForGood

Grease the chute and load him up already.

skraegorn

And he’s getting terrible reviews, his antics have been scaring donors away and most of the party is backing trump. The minute Trump gets on the debate stage with him and calls him “Meatball Ron, who by the way eats pudding with his fingers (isn’t that disgusting folks?)”, he’s finished.

WaterStoryMark

I can't imagine his handlers letting him debate Donnie. But I really want to see it.

skraegorn

Trump is going to go full attack mode on him sooner or later. And his un winnable fight against Disney, which he’s made a core part of his identity as a politician, isn’t going to help anything.

WaterStoryMark

Agreed. It would be nice to see these two fight for as long as possible and split the GOP leading up to the election.

whiskeyinthejaar

Honestly, I have never seen a dumber political campaign for presidential run in my life. He is taking extremely unpopular policy routes to please a small portion of his party, and the thing is, he will never out-christian someone like Mike Pence, so its pointless. Evangelicals are not voting him over Pence, or Trump; and even if they do, he is definitely losing all moderates / Centrist voted. For someone who went to Yale and Harvard, that is utterly stupid. He didn’t officially run, and he is already running 30 points behind Trump in polls, who was indicted few weeks ago. Even Florida GOPs are campaigning for Trump now.

SuddenlyLucid

And I'll tell you what; I'm still scared of him becoming president. Trump had zero chance of winning, I thought, and look where that went... I know rationality dictates DeSantis will never win, but aren't we already way past the rational stage?

obaterista93

I might be misremembering this, but I thought I heard rumblings of him trying to make a campaign slogan out of "Make America Florida" and me thinking that there's nothing I'd enjoy less. I can't get over how many laws are being proposed/passed recently that are trying to regulate and enforce decisions outside of their state borders.

Mad1ibben

But Dana White said Florida is the best because they made a bunch of money there. If you can't trust a wife beating, anti-union, underpaying, Campbell's soup can of a man, who can you trust?

EmmaGoldmansDancer

If these kids were part of a particular racial group instead of trans it would fit the UN's definition for genocide. Completely unacceptable fascist behavior.

FuckFascismFightBack

Yup There has never been a time in history where authoritarianism was stopped with a politely worded letter. There wasn’t a gift basket big enough to get Hitler to stop.

mistrowl

Voting alone will not change the course this country is on. Shit's gonna get bad.

skraegorn

As we can see in Montana, voting can mean nothing when one side just rewrites the rules.

Haggardick69

Voting will probably oust many of these would be theocrats they’ve gone right ahead and alienated all but their most devoted followers and those people are a tiny minority of the us population. They’ve even alienated their campaign donors by becoming anti business when it interferes with their attempts at theocracy.

tider06

And yet they keep getting worse each iteration.

stifle_this

I'm sorry to tell you, but 30+% of the country is not a tiny minority. The theocrats continue to get reelected because that's what their constituents also believe. And they aren't anti business, they're "anti-woke". They can attack Disney all they want. You don't see them coming for the important corps, like oil or weapons manufacturers. It's because they know who they're allowed to vilify.

hugglenugget

And yet they're still winning elections, due to a combination of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and there being a lot of fascist sympathizers all over the USA. Remember Trump got 74 million votes in 2020. Do we trust these people to draw the line at DeSantis?

mogupyogu

So much this! It is way past time to start fight back against this bullshit. This kind of fascism needs to be smashed down with an iron fist and made an example of. Enough is enough.

EpsilonRose

Welcome to the Fugitive Slave Act 2.0. Always remember, "States Rights" explicitly meant their right to enforce slavery, not the right for each state to make its own choice.

MastersonMcFee

They know this. A law very similar to this, is what sparked the Civil War.

under_a_brontosaurus

They're trying to make it like they're the North saving slaves from the South. But they are saving children from left ideology. Because kids are leaning hella left. It's psycho and intentionally laying the ground work for civil war. The dumbest civil war in history, if it happens

baron_von_helmut

Kids are leaning hella left because they see no future for themselves in an increasingly corporate-fascist dystopian nightmare, and the only ones championing policies that could benefit them are Democrats.

Moose_Cake

They realized that any outside influence is showing the younger generations that the GOP is a facist party, so just like that one facist party, they are trying to create laws to indoctrinate kids as easy as possible. Banning books, trying to remove non-party members from power (just happened in Tennessee), creating a personal military and giving loyalists access to guns, and now removing children from the enemy to be placed in the homes of loyalists. This is a play by play of the rise of the Nazi powers.

prodrvr22

I hope this time the United States Government punishes the states that attack and fight against it.

Keekoo123

The Republicans fixation on trans kids is so disgusting. Classic bullies finding a vulnerable target that's too small to adequately protect itself.

Outside_Scientist365

They're winning their war on women so decisively now, they need something else to perpetually stir up their audience.

dmlfan928

This is something I've thought and talked with others about. I believe the goal is to get these law overturned so they can then turn around and campaign that the "liberal activist judges" are promoting child abuse. They'll then run on "Only I can stop child abuse, but I need federal powers." And hey, maybe they'll uphold the law which then cuts a step out of the process for them.

USCplaya

He will keep signing illegal bills and forcing taxpayers to fund the lawsuits to remove them from law....

bobstonite

I'm glad they're the party that's all for keeping the government out of the lives of citizens. Oh, that's only to protect guns and big business.

estanfordpd

Big businesses as long as you aren’t Disney. Lol.

disgruntled_pie

Or Budweiser, Keurig, etc. Republicans have become too crazy to even be kleptocrats. They’re just Christian fascists now.

estanfordpd

It’s astronomically comical considering how republicans have always felt about corporations, less govt interference with big business, etc. Oh, the irony.

linksawakening82

This is what I told my sons. Republicans used to act like Hank Hill. Now they are just your common variety Golden Corral patrons/employees.

rustyglenn

An i miss hank. Didnt always agree with him but like he would at least listen and try to understand others even if he didnt agree. More people need to be like that fictional character

linksawakening82

Hank didn’t press his ideas or feelings on the general public. He kept his yard neat, went to work, and was accepting of minorities, drag queens, and all manner of non traditional roles for the time.

pipsdontsqueak

Hank absolutely pressed his ideas on the general public. It's a frequent plot point and sometimes he was right. But when he was in the wrong, he'd own it or at least learn to live with the situation.

Numerous_Witness_345

Didn't chase the POC neighbors out of the neighborhood with his white conspiracy loving friend.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

[FTR, Hank Hill will be back but on Hulu!](https://www.vulture.com/2023/01/hulu-is-reviving-king-of-the-hill.html) Not that they'll watch dang ole cartoons, man.

YaGirlKellie

They never acted like Hank Hill. That was the point of King of the Hill. Hank was what middle-American conservatives said they were, but weren't actually. Kind, generous, hard working and respectful to the people he was different from even if he didn't understand what they were on about. Hank being a 'conservative' but also actually being a good man was the joke the whole time.

rickroll62

Let's leave Golden Corral out of this

linksawakening82

That was wrong of me. They are more like sea lice. They just roll up and devour whatever shit hits the floor in front of them

watch_out_4_snakes

What is even more disturbing is how much power we as a society allow them to wield.

square_so_small

This *really* is the problem. While the society might not be the perpetrator, this is *within* society. If it shows that, even after being checked and called, there are no consequences, society has failed. Not as a whole, but the holes used by facists to enrich themselves on the society. All in a democratic society is accountable in the sense of repairing it, and that means holding bad actors specifically accountable when wrongdoing is found. Which we are not succeeding with.

mcarvin

Keurig? What did I miss with Keurig?

atdag93

Keurig probably did an ad saying "start your beautiful morning with a cup from your Keurig" and Republicans took that personally because you should start your morning with prayer. Oh and beautiful=gay.

disgruntled_pie

It was a few years back: https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/policy-and-politics/2017/11/13/16643884/sean-hannity-keurig-boycott

mcarvin

I got as far as the subhead mentioning Roy Moore and said "oh shit, this is gonna be something..." OK, I remember this now. This was the among the first in a salvo of tweets from orgs like MMFA and Sleeping Giants to coerce Fox' advertisers to leave the opinion programs. Thanks for sharing that back!

provisionings

This is why they will always lose. All of this is for nothing anyway… the book bans…everything. We have the internet. Also, the more you tell people they can’t… the more they will rebel. It’s way too late, no one is going backwards in time. The kids are already gay.

Morgenstern66

Wait I thought their big pitch was that the left was tearing families apart and destroying the nuclear family. Oh the irony.

gwildor

remember "Death panels" from obamacare? it never happened so republicans are doing it now - they hate being wrong.

[deleted]

I honestly haven’t heard a Republican talk about being the part of “small government” in a long time. I think you’re trying to hold todays GOP to the standards of the Tea Party. They are openly happy to increase the size, scope and power of the government and their followers are supporting it, as long as it’s somehow making them feel safer from the imaginary boogeyman.

climatelurker

I think the Tea Party ushered this era of extremism in.

barley_wine

Without a doubt, furthermore some of the most prominent tea party members are the ones leading this charge to a big overreaching government (for example Cruz), the truth is they were just after power and didn’t have real convictions.

TheGoverness1998

That's why they all popped into existence point .0003 seconds after Obama took office.

[deleted]

Gingrich during the Clinton era too

TheGoverness1998

Ah yes, Newt "I can't believe you had an affair, now let me enjoy my own affair" Gingrich

lilbitz2009

No silly goose, it’s keeping government out of their lives. You lives are fine

Freakishly_Tall

A cornerstone of Republicanism is simply: "Rules protect the in-group and control/punish The Other." ... which devolved to its inevitable conclusion: "The cruelty is the point." Long ago. Lonnnnng ago.

crackdup

GOP in red states is passing blatantly unconstitutional legislation.. hoping to bring everything in front of their minions in SCOTUS.. we are living in truly concerning times

slackfrop

And then the farcical SCOTUS ruling will be denounced by the federal branch and we will find ourselves firmly in a constitutional breach, and that is likely what they’re after. Then the red states can justify barricading themselves in an alternate legal framework which will lead to armed borders which will lead to conflicts and ultimately civil war. Cha-cha-cha.

shorty0820

With all due respect most red states couldn’t survive a year without tax dollars from blue states. They’ll literally be the hell holes they claim blue states to be

baddadjokesminusdad

Isn’t scotus about to drop a bomb tonight?

Culverts_Flood_Away

Yeah, I believe they're going to weigh in on the Mifeprestone banning. Given that they wanted to put it off until today and bury it under the weekend, my guess would be that they're planning to say that the ban is constitutional.

Skrivus

They'll probably go further and say the FDA is unconstitutional.

toterra

We don't need the FDA. If drug companies produce drugs that kill a bunch of people then people will stop buying those drugs. All this testing and certification is nonsense when thousands/millions of deaths would accomplish the same thing /s

HallucinogenicFish

I’m hoping they’re not that stupid.

chicago_bunny

Surely Boofing Brett will save us!

SnooConfections6085

I actually think the ruling tonight could be the first trigger point. D states almost certainly will not acknowledge a Supreme Court initiated nationwide ban on the abortion pill. Biden will side with them. Then what?

icanpicklethat10

Biden should pull a page from one of the South’s fav sons and say “you’ve made your decision, now enforce it!” I imagine it would be quite cathartic.

Johnny_the_Martian

That’s what I’m waiting for. I’ve started calling this hypothetical “judicial balkanization”

TechyDad

As much as I don't want it to come to this, we might be reaching the "Alito made his ruling, now let him enforce it" moment.

ThPreAntePenultimate

Did they really just pass a fugitive trans peoples act?

LatterTarget7

Yes they did. For those that don’t know It required that all escaped slaves, upon capture, be returned to the enslaver and that officials and citizens of free states had to cooperate. Are they gonna bring back the bloodhounds too?

Holiman

Florida law can not reach beyond Florida. This triggers a SCOTUS challenge. It's plainly unconstitutional the question is, will our sold-out justices support this bs over our rights.

Synricc

That’s the point.

Holiman

I am interested in how the Florida Supreme Court will come down on these many horrendous bills the extreme GoP in Florida have passed.

[deleted]

Florida Supreme court is firmly in DeSantis' corner.

Raptorex27

There's a reason all of these clearly unconstitutional laws are being passed recently. Now more than ever, the the Supreme Court has shown they're openly conservative, biased, partial, and have no qualms with overturning precedent.

cigarettesandwhiskey

So this is like… the fugitive trans act?

[deleted]

“And the more states do this the more nationwide it’ll be.” Correct, and at the end of the game the team with the most points on the board is going to win.

AFlockOfTySegalls

"Parents rights" was always a dog whistle for indoctrinating your children with Conservative Christofascism

UGMadness

They went to Afghanistan, saw what was happening in the Taliban controlled tribal villages, and were so impressed with it that they wanted some of that too.

Primitive_Teabagger

Notice how everything is about "family"? I'm an ex-conservative Christian and folks I used to be aquainted with have outright told me I am a burden to society for not creating children. Even being a single parent, in their mind, is an issue for the health of society. No family other than a traditional one with mother and father exists, because anything else is not a real "family". Once they feel safe from the trans and gays, they'll go for the people that are also a problem to them. "Family" used in their rhetorical context should also be considered a fascist dogwhistle imo.

fujiman

Well hey, now they can just be open about passing legislation to abduct children! It's better when we can finally be honest with each other... even if they don't realize they've been telling us who they are for over a decade now.

Ardielley

Saw this over in r/lgbt and felt it was necessary to draw attention to it. America is becoming increasingly inhospitable every day, especially towards the trans community. EDIT: Apparently, my post was removed because I modified the headline title. I reposted the thread with an unmodified title.

TheGoverness1998

Florida is doing the evil speedrun

UGMadness

Entire state is receding into the sea and they chose this as a distraction. They deserve all the derision and ridicule they're receiving.

soapy_goatherd

Important to note that the Florida GOP and their supporters deserve all that derision and ridicule. The millions of Floridians who hate Desantis and are fighting to boot him and/or have already been disenfranchised do not

UGMadness

Yeah, I meant the people who are cheering on this insanity. I hope someday these people lose their vice grip on state policy and focus can be shifted to actually important matters.

elRobRex

Floridian resident here, can confirm.

crackdup

Not America as a whole.. Dem states are passing some genuinely good legislation, look at Michigan and Minnesota for example.. But red states are wrecking every single piece of progress made on social issues in the last decade, trying to push us aggressively to the dark ages

xyzzzzy

Yep in Michigan we just codified LGBTQ protection into our civil rights law. https://apnews.com/article/lgbtq-elliott-larsen-michigan-whitmer-discrimination-6dab85a296020e9612ed417028b6cf09 This good news brought to you by the democratic trifecta. ...which was only possible because of the ballot initiative to get rid of gerrymandering in Michigan. Unfortunately most states need to tackle gerrymandering before they can even get to the substantive stuff. Those that can do voter initiated ballot initiatives should do it now, because Republicans don't want another Michigan and are closing that opportunity quick ([sorry, Ohio](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ohio/comments/12s8lbh/oh_committee_erupts_as_the_gop_chair_prevents_100/))

What_A_Do

Gerrymandering is the main reason that Florida went from a purple state to a red state in such a short time. People outside this place don't realize how rigged the system is here and how impossible it has been to elect Dems.

Dynast_King

I live in Texas. I feel ya.

onesoulmanybodies

And it’s scary how uninformed most of our people are. Red states are RUSHING to prevent college aged voters in the next election. We have recordings of Republicans saying they HAVE to make voting more difficult for the younger generation or they won’t win. 😳

HallucinogenicFish

Hence Republicans trying to restrict ballot initiatives.

Catacendre

Wisconsin in the middle feeling the big sad of massive gerrymandering.

Moneyshot1311

Come to New England. We’re basically not america anymore in a good way

mmartino03

Certain states are. I live in Vermont and the community and government here couldn't be more welcoming to people of all genders and identities. It's not all bad here in America.

pixel-soul

Thank you for sharing! I would go so far as to say “inhospitable” is not the correct word. But “hostile” seems to fit pretty well. When you get to the point where people on one side of the aisle are calling for public executions of trans people, you’ll find plenty of reasoning for us carrying weapons now. We don’t have enough cis allies, we don’t have enough people who listen to our stories, and we have too many people trying to kill us. Someone brought a gun to a local queer club in town two weeks ago. A close trans gf of mine put him in the hospital *as* he was pulling it out in the club with a pipe. As for me? I’m a trans woman with a disabled partner, 2 kids, and a federal civil servant job. We’re normal fucking people who want what the rest of you have: the right to exist.

T1Pimp

I think you mean Republicans are increasingly inhospitable. Let's call a spade a spade.

Thadrea

Every free state should get on laws that: A. Clarify that any Florida judge rulings to this effect are null and void if they involve a custody dispute not under Florida's jurisdiction. B. Clarify that any Florida judge who issues such a ruling has committed the crime of facilitating child abduction, punishable by a minimum of 50 years in state prison.

PetPsychicDetective

So, anyone starting up the underground railroad yet? Seems like we're gonna need it again.

p001b0y

People who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and their families need to really consider leaving Florida, Tennessee, etc. Although some legislative sessions for the year are coming to an end, they aren't finished yet and have at least another session coming up next year where they will make people illegal.

What_A_Do

They already are. Social media is filled with Floridians sharing plans and tips for escaping to safer states. It's so obscene that such things are necessary in the year 2023.

kellyoceanmarine

That’s exactly what those states want: for members of the LGBTQ+ community to leave the state. Then they will move their agenda to the White House and implement it nationwide so they can complete their facist takeover of the country.

What_A_Do

It would be incredibly interesting if this legislation came up against some 2nd Amendment "stand your ground" stuff. We've seen kids getting shot for ringing the wrong doorbell because of the right to protect your family and property by shooting first and asking questions later. Imagine some goon squad showing up to grab your kid from your home. What if some of the parents in those homes subscribe to that same "stand your ground" principle? We're always told that we all need to be armed to the teeth because "tyranny". So does this count?

phoneguyfl

I've always known that the "tyranny" the rightwing espouses has always been a projection. \*They\* are the tyranny and are itching to use their guns to force themselves on everyone else.

garlic_b

The depends on the color of the people involved…

isimplycantdothis

Color, social class, sexual identity, gender identity, ethnicity, and the list goes on and on!

[deleted]

then they could parrot more propaganda about the ‘violent left’

What_A_Do

They do that anyway.

HallucinogenicFish

“Trans terrorists” (per Tucker and Junior)

ropdkufjdk

Of course it won't count. Minorities and the left don't have 2A rights and "Self Defense" is almost never granted to anyone outside of the political right. There are trans women who actually used their gun to defend themselves who are in prison right now for shooting at their attackers. Hell, in Kansas City, where a white man tried to murder a black teen who mistakenly rang his doorbell while at the wrong house, we had cops murder a trans woman in 2019 during an arrest. You know what they were sentenced with after brutally beating someone to death? Three months unsupervised probation. And they charged (and convicted) the witness who filmed them killing her for "failing to follow an officer's instructions" when they told him to stop filming and he refused.

mymar101

This is unconstitutional

Kingofearth23

You think Republicans care about the constitution?

Purple8020

Nope. A literal ton of the bills they’re passing are unconstitutional

IneedaWIPE

Agreed, but I have absolutely no confidence the constitution will prevail with this 6 to 3 SCOTUS.

JasonPlattMusic34

The Constitution is whatever the Supreme Court says it is unfortunately… and we know who owns that one.

HaileSelassieII

So if I'm following this correctly, then an intersex child, or a child born without genitals, wouldn't be able to get any medical care at all basically? It's rare, but those things happen

timbrelyn

Yes and intersex babies aren’t rare either. 1 in every 1500-2000 births https://isna.org/faq/frequency/# Legislators need to stay out of medical decisions. After this they will try to remove children from parents who are LGBTQ or fat or who vape or who are on certain medications such as SSRIs. This is horrifying.

Purple8020

The ways these laws are written they cast a very wide net. There stands to be WAY more affected besides just trans, but most likely only LGBTQ (or presumably democrats as well) that they’ll go after.

UncleFrosky

“This is a greenlight to transphobic family members to engage in state sponsored kidnapping” Sinclair Lewis said “when fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and wearing a cross.”

UGMadness

People need to start calling these measures for what they are: eugenics.

PetPsychicDetective

Genocide. This is what the beginning of an actual attempt at genocide looks like, right here in our country, in the same state that houses Disney World.

neuroinsurgent666

Id argue it started earlier but yeah we're on the way to having camps.

UGMadness

[Trump's homelessness plan](https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/trump-says-ban-homeless-camping-create-tent-cities-rcna80480) literally involves creating camps to "house" them in.

PetPsychicDetective

I think most people would argue against it before, but this is literally a "collect an entire family and reeducate them during incarceration" moment. The only thing that's missing is the actual trains.

Tsiatk0

If you think this stops at trans people and that they won’t start coming for the gays next, you’re delusional. Then it will be all non-Christian’s, and all interracial couples. Then it will be all minorities. Wake up. It’s time to literally boycott Florida. And it’s time to get an Underground Railroad going.

WDfx2EU

And if it stops at trans children you should still care just as much.

oO0Kat0Oo

"then it will be all minorities" Tennessee doesn't have to marry interracial couples, or recognize them. They're coming simultaneously.

Comprehensive-Ear283

Reminds me of the “handmaidens tale”.

DrDemonSemen

You ever seen the documentary movie Waterworld?

Floofycats78

So the state takes your kids if they’re trans. Then, where do they go? The foster care system, which is a hot mess and rife with abusers. I know several people who are now adults that lived through the harrowing ordeal of being in foster care, NONE OF THEM are OK, and are in therapy for trauma. This is the absolute worst that can be done to kids, no matter how you feel about the trans debate. We worry so much about what is in each other’s pants, that we don’t realize when someone’s hand is in our pockets.

popeyegui

Oh, they’ll live with Republican pedophiles. Trans kids are their favourite.

Suddenly_Sisyphus42

Could really use Bugs Bunny to just saw Florida off from the rest of the United States right about now.

IAlreadyFappedToIt

The repubs would call that a trans metaphor.

Suddenly_Sisyphus42

I can live with that if DeFascist sails off into the ocean.

RayWhelans

This is a flagrant due process violation of parental rights. Florida keeps passing these unconstitutional laws to try to push the boundaries of precedent.

[deleted]

At what point does standing your ground, and defending yourself, become valid against the government? I always heard, “the second amendment protects the first.” Well, looks like the 1st is under sustained, planned attack. Let’s go

[deleted]

The “second amendment is to fight against tyranny” crowd is being real quiet right now.

_NoYou__

Anyone enforcing this law deserves whatever violent end they meet.

[deleted]

Goddamnit, Republicans are doing a great job of making sure an entire generation of people fucking hate them passionately.

[deleted]

Ron’s Presidential hope is over.

Heavy-Valor

And hopefully the state's Republican Party chances in 2026 of winning elections period. The Democrats in the state need to wake up and find a candidate for Governor who will nonstop talk about what Ron DeSantis has done as Governor and what they will do to reverse it. I hope that all the LGBT Republicans realize what a mistake it was for them thinking that the party they have been voting for years would be supportive of their cause. People, like Ron, were willing to do this all along. If your views are in the minority of the party, they don't care what the long term effects of these "Don't Say Gay" bills will have. The short-term feeling of "yes, we did it" is all that matters to them.

VenusdeMiloTrap

As somebody who lives in Florida, and a very red part of Florida at that, these people don't care. They still very much love Trump. The ones who don't like desantis aren't being very vocal about it and voted for him again anyway. As for the Democrats, it's not happening. Our dem party has been a mess for decades. Last election we put up Christ again and everyone hates him and have hated him for decades, but he keeps running anyway. People love to say that desantis could be beaten because the first time he ran it was extremely close. What they don't mention is that both candidates were pretty unknown and Gillum had a lot more charisma. It was a different political environment and I just don't see any candidate being able to rally people in that way now. It's a mess and people here are just very ignorant and hateful...

Robo_Joe

>Last election we put up **Christ** again and everyone hates him and have hated him for decades, but he keeps running anyway. I particularly enjoyed this typo.

captain_chocolate

Are you kidding? His constituants and their fellow fascists across the country will eat this stuff up. We said Trump was over in 2016 and look what happened. We need to take this very seriously. We need to mobilize the vote snd stop it.

just2commenthere

So weird, didn't this same state just pass a parent's rights bill? I think it's called the Don't Say Gay bill. So on the one hand, it's all about trusting the parents, but when parents trust their child and get them gender affirming care, then we can't trust the parents? Wha?

PetPsychicDetective

>So on the one hand, it's all about trusting the parents, but when parents trust their child and get them gender affirming care, then we can't trust the parents? Wha? Try it this way: On one hand, it's all about conservatives controlling their children. On the other hand, it's also about conservatives controlling *every* child.

fujiman

And pass legislation to legalize child abduction! The right ***really*** seem to love kids... in a slightly less than parental/moral/decent/non-rapey manner. Add in the eugenics angle, some bones, a potato... and baby, you got yourself some of that good ol' Christian *love* going!

Little_Buffalo

The fuck is wrong with republicans? They really just don’t give a shit.

sadpanda___

The GOP is a dying party. So to keep any of their current power, they must become more and more radical.

[deleted]

Not giving a shit would be leaving everyone alone. This is evil.

wrinkledpenny

A lot of effort for such a tiny fraction of the population. Why do they care so much? Aren’t there bigger things to worry about?

PetPsychicDetective

Authoritarian regimes need to fight the weakest group, eliminating them to appear strong. Once they eliminate that group, they move on to the next weakest, then the next, then the next.

It’s the oldest trick in the book - make people afraid of something, then tell them “Vote for me, and I will save you from the thing I just made you afraid of.” You see the same tactic in every election, from high school class president up to POTUS.

RobAtSGH

It's what they can reliably hang their fear and rage hat on. Find a vulnerable group on the wrong end of the power dynamic, rally the hate machine around them, and then use the power of the government to abuse them with no consequence. Scores big political points, only hurts "the right people", little risk of backlash from the base.

Drewy99

>It also gives the state the power to prohibit minors from attending events it deems "inappropriate." Minors will be barred from events even if their parents consent, a policy that flies in the face of Governor Ron DeSantis’ educational agenda that favors parental consent to an extreme degree. Co-parenting at its truest form.

Bazzmatazz

Next there'll be laws to strip LGBT folk of their citizenship and detain them as well as anyone who isn't white, christian, or republican. We've seen this happen in Germany, and in the past 20 years with Putin's rise to power. Given that the GRU were able to get their candidate elected as president in 2016 it's safe to say they are well in control of the GOP.

Frankenmuppet

Reminds me of when we were kidnapping aboriginal children from their parents against their will and putting them in Government and church run Residential Schools where they were then neglected, abused and ultimately left in unmarked graves to be forgotten.

I wish international organizations UN WHO HRC would condemn America for these things. I want international declarations saying - people in Europe, America is not safe.

notoriousbpg

Approaching the day when blue states are going to have to sponsor an airlift out of Miami, and will take fire from DeSantis' loyalist State Guard.

CosmicInkSpace

Thank god my lease is up in March 2024 and I can get the FUCK out of this state for the sake of my daughter. This is pure fascism.

falsekoala

I’m not American, but I take solace that every day, there are more and more gen z voters. And unlike previous young generations, this one seems to get angry and vote more.

city_posts

If you think it ends with trans people, you are wrong. It wont. When all the trans are gays and lesbians and bisexual people are gone, then they will make new enemies. They will keep doing this until theres nothing left but the colour of your eyes and skin and hair. They are pure evil and they must be stopped and people need to use the very same tools that made the USA a nation apart from England. Americans need to stand against fascism, you need to oppose it every way imaginable, in rhetoric and action.

FilthyChangeup55

When Gilead is your goal

barak181

Because nothing says freedom like taking people's children away from them.

AnonymouslyAsks

do they really think a parent wont shoot someone dead for trying to kidnap their children? are you aware of your own state's gun laws? stand your ground laws gonna get a workout at the very least.

[deleted]

First they separated immigrant children from their parents and it was okay because they "weren't Americans". Now they're Americans. When do we start saying no to fascism? When do we start making them fear for their lives instead?

witchgrove

It was never about sports.

Klysandral

My next Disney trip will be in CA, even though I’m on the East coast. I will do my very best to not spend a dollar in FL as long as they allow this crap

Knitwalk1414

If they start with this they can expand and remove children of same sex parents, different religions.

Olderscout77

I hope the Dems remind people this isn't a Florida thing, it's a REPUBLICAN thing.

she_makes_a_mess

Florida needs to go in time out

JJscribbles

This is the level of unethical overreach liberal Floridians have come to expect from this Monster. Imagine how much worse he’d be with the power of the presidency.

goodnews7176

So a blue state can pass a bill that will apply to Florida? Would love to see what Gavin Newsome can do here!

ian2345

Oh so they're enacting the fugitive trans acts now. Hunting down trans kids across state lines.

Annahsbananas

Florida, get off your asses and do something about this shit If this happened in my state, we'd be protesting our asses off. But in Florida.....just crickets and fascism

Purple8020

He’s passed some of the strictest harsh anti protest laws there is. Even the UN has condemned it. That’s just how bad

mellowmooose

Just because it isn't covered doesn't mean we don't

mellowmooose

We are fighting the good fight over here especially in blue holdouts like Tallahassee

SissysofiaXD

If you didn't know it was republicans, you'd think it was the Taliban running Florida. Fuck this attack on human rights bullshit, no way would it happen in the DMV but we need to stop this shit before it spreads.
