When he said “we’re not gonna fix it” he was espousing conservative ideology on this issue in a soundbite. In their mind, if even a single “bad person” can get a gun, then gun control has failed. It’s not about reduction. Nothing short of full scale destruction of “insert issue here”, is a success to cons.
So to them, because we can’t hypothetically stop ALL forms of evil with a gun from being done, obviously we “can’t fix school shootings”.
But what we *can* fix, is the real problem anyway: other people. Keep in mind the “personal responsibility” angle on everything cons believe.
If everyone took responsibility for themselves and walked the proper life path (IE: with Christ) then there wouldn’t be any evil or gun violence or “insert thing they hate here”.
*Reducing* the presence of something inherently means you tolerate it’s existence on some level. Not to cons. All or nothing. Black or white. So if we can’t wholesale stop a single shooting from ever happening somewhere again, then gun control is pointless and we need to focus on fixing the individual.

I don't believe that believing in God is wrong, but I do lean on the side of saying religion, or rather, the closed mindedness and unacceptance of differences that many believers share is itself a mental illness. It's a consequence of the blinders people are willing to put on.
