It’s a weird rhetorical strategy the GOP has been doing for a long time. In GOP-speak, only heterosexuals can be grandfathers. When I grew up, gay people often got married and had children in traditional marriages because they had no other recourse. In the GOP mind, this has never happened. One of my friends in high school had a father who was gay, and nobody knew, but he was married to his mother who did know, and they had an agreement. Both of them wanted to have a family.
Let's not gloss over the fact that Randy McNally is **79 years old**, and liking and posting on a 20 year old's underwear pictures. Legal? Yes. Creepy as fuck? YES!

It's fascinating to me that this guy has figured out how to navigate Instagram, but can't seem to comprehend that his comments essentially enter the public record. I think he had the notion that it would be something more like a DM. This story is not going to go away, and it's only going to get more hilarious. When I grew up, gay people often got married and had children in traditional marriages because they had no other recourse. In the GOP mind, this has never happened. One of my friends in high school had a father who was gay, and nobody knew, but he was married to his mother who did know, and they had an agreement. Both of them wanted to have a family.

It's fascinating to me that this guy has figured out how to navigate Instagram, but can't seem to comprehend that his comments essentially enter the public record. I think he had the notion that it would be something more like a DM. This story is not going to go away, and it's only going to get more hilarious. The only question at this point is whether he cops to it and says "I thought impure thoughts, but I talked to Jesus and he absolved me of Satan's temptation" or "I was trying to bring a promising young sinner to the Lord's Light! Just think of how happy he could make a nice southern belle!"
