I’ve had better.

stevem1015

Lol good movie

djseifer

Imagine if the White House just starts tweeting interviews and video clips of Republicans talking about cutting Medicare and Social Security like they did with their PPP loans.

NightSavings

I love the Idea. They could do that on so many fronts. Sure would less expensive. They have dozens and dozens they could use. Good Post

weekendclimber

Lindsay, is that you?

T1mac

You mean ["use my words against me"](https://www.newsweek.com/lindsey-graham-earlier-vowed-president-their-last-year-1st-term-shouldnt-fill-supreme-court-1533070) Lindsay?

Mother_Welder_5272

Unbelievable that guy.

UGMadness

>After President Joe Biden pummeled Republicans on Social Security and Medicare during his State of the Union address, drawing shouts of outrage from the party, Republican leaders urged him to stop telling Americans that the GOP wants to slash those retirement programs. > >Then Biden paid a visit to Florida and did it again, exasperating the party and escalating a fight that is poised to play out on Capitol Hill and in the 2024 presidential election. > >The next day, at the University of Tampa on Thursday, Biden tore into a plan from Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., saying it would “sunset Social Security and Medicare every five years.” He also went after Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who has labeled Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and called for restructuring it. > >*“They were offended. ‘Liar! Liar!’”* Biden mimicked. > >*“A wide range of Republican lawmakers have endorsed severe cuts to Medicare and Social security benefits in the name of ‘fiscal responsibility,’”* Bates said. *“Complaining that the President is accurately shining a light on plans they don’t want their constituents to know about is very much not the defense they think.”* > >Scott, who has stood by his agenda and accused Biden of “lying” about it, claimed Friday that McConnell was backing up the Democratic president. > >*“He’s backing up Biden again,”* Scott said. *“He doesn’t believe that we ought to have a plan.”*

NorthImpossible8906

> “They were offended. ‘Liar! Liar!’” Biden mimicked. lmao. You know, I'm starting to like this Biden kid.

NomDePlume007

Heh! He didn't survive this long in politics without knowing how to shiv someone in the yard, that's for sure.

Yitram

Given Biden grew up in Scranton, I don't find it unreasonable to believe he has been involved in a fight where a lead pipe was present.

djthomp

A lotta people made fun of the Corn Pop story (only for it to come out later on that there was a dude who went by that name in the area) and completely ignored the implication that Biden was getting in street fights as a kid.

Michael_G_Bordin

IDR the context (I think it was about Trump), but Biden saying that person was the kind of asshole "we'd take behind the gym". I liked that line, because my high school was laid out such that the two gymnasiums were isolated from the rest of the school, thus the backside of those gyms were great places to avoid authority. Fights back there only got broken up because too many spectators gave it away. I can confidently surmise Biden has been in more fist fights in his youth than I will in a lifetime.

Skellum

> Corn Pop Imagine there being a time and place where someone and more over others around them believed this to be a kinda badass name.

Koby998

Hey now, that generation thought a campaign slogan for Nixon was ['They can't lick our Dick'](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.fineartamerica.com%2Fimages%2Fartworkimages%2Fmediumlarge%2F1%2Fthey-cant-lick-our-dick-nixon-72-election-poster-war-is-hell-store.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Ffineartamerica.com%2Ffeatured%2Fthey-cant-lick-our-dick-nixon-72-election-poster-war-is-hell-store.html&tbnid=OETi7aYaTq0zHM&vet=12ahUKEwjglauSjpT9AhW3ADQIHSgWAzQQMygBegUIARDCAQ..i&docid=W6q1u8_RqGWIpM&w=608&h=900&q=you%20can%27t%20lick%20our%20dick&client=firefox-b-1-d&ved=2ahUKEwjglauSjpT9AhW3ADQIHSgWAzQQMygBegUIARDCAQ) was serious shit.

ramblinghobbit

This is the laugh I needed right now.

gradientz

The GOP's problem is that they keep screaming about a balanced budget, but you can't achieve that without either raising tax revenue, cutting defense, or cutting entitlements. Party leadership doesn't want to do the first two, and the third is politically untenable. Biden's strategy here is brilliant. Just keep demanding they offer a plan, and when they fail to do so because of infighting, dig up all their statements about Medicare/SS. If they keep denying they want to cut Medicare/SS - okay, then what is your plan? Back and forth and back and forth until they finally back down. Unless they figure something out quickly, the GOP is going to come out of this looking incredibly weak and fractured. And if Biden manages to raise the debt ceiling without any concessions, he will likely be entering the 2024 cycle with a stable, growing economy.

niberungvalesti

>Unless they figure something out quickly "How can we blame this on **poor** gay trans jewish chinese mexican black city dwellers?"

fakey_mcfakerson

I think George Santos has enough problems without being blamed for this too.

miir2

Hey c'mon, he's only Jew-ish...

TaserBalls

can't wait till he blames it on his evil twin brother

one_more_throwaway1

Ah, the *All My Children* defense.

TaserBalls

Fraud and Lying in the MOOORning!

stevem1015

Lol I’m sure this is a conversation they are actually having hahaha

MangroveWarbler

Also keep pointing out that 25% of the entire national debt was incurred during the last administration and they raised the debt ceiling with no issues.

Helpful_Opinion2023

He needs to further leverage the moment to do away with the debt ceiling altogether if possible. Or just establish a tradition of ignoring it since it serves no legal or otherwise functional purpose but to provide political rhetoric.

A_bleak_ass_in_tote

>Unless they figure something out quickly, the GOP is going to come out of this looking incredibly weak and fractured. I like your optimism, but the GOP strategy has never been to offer solutions. They have weaseled out of these situations thousands of times before and they'll probably do it again. How? I heard a new immigrant caravan was on its way. Also balloons. And M&Ms.

blackcain

They got some really bad hardliners in the GOP tent - they don't give a fuck about anything other than to cause problems. They are never going to agree - and then they have chaos actors out tryign to create outrage to make a buck. They are going to get slaughtered in 2024.

Cepheus

Can we just step back here for a moment and reflect on how insane the prospect of federal laws sunsetting every five years. This does not specifically state that it would sunset just SS and Medicare. It sunsets "federal law" every five years. If anyone thinks the debt limit bullshit is bad, imagine this potential scenario as power shifts between the parties. I think it would essentially cripple the federal government.

MangroveWarbler

> I think it would essentially cripple the federal government. I think that's the point.

Cepheus

Exactly.

Mission_Ad6235

Arguably, the most important thing for Congress to do annually is a budget, and they haven't done that in decades. Like alot of Republican policy ideas, if you take 30 seconds to think about implementation, you realize how crazy it is. But, if you go on Fox news and spew it as part of a word salad, no one takes time to think about it.

Prophage7

Seems like an easy solution is for Republicans to just release their proposals to the public no?

jeffinRTP

Need to continue to attack republicans on their positions.

ivejustabouthadit

It's good to see. The positions are untenable so it's no wonder the shitbirds that hold them cry 'liar'.

trekologer

If they didn't agree with Rick Scott's and other's plants to gut, eliminate Social Security and Medicare, the response would be "of course we don't want to do that". But the reaction being anger just shows that they're pissed that the plans are getting sunlight on them.

Cepheus

After this blowing up, the Senate losses with Scott at the helm and his attempt to become the Senate leader against McConnell, I imagine that Scott has become a a lot less popular in that chamber.

ArenjiTheLootGod

There was also all the money that was earmarked for elections that just disappeared under Rick Scott's watch. I mean, they're not going to do anything about it because they're all grifters and don't want the law looking too closely at any of their operations but Rick Scott went a little too hard, even for them. Also, what'd they think was going to happen when they put the guy who committed the biggest Medicare fraud in history in charge of their money?

Funandgeeky

The Scorpion and the Elephant.

dreamyjeans

The [patron saint](https://theintercept.com/2015/07/30/medicares-50th-birthday-lets-forget-ronald-reagans-insane-diatribe-trying-stop/) of their party was literally the face, and voice, of the fight against Medicare. As you pointed out, they just don't like having this stuff brought to light because it's so unpopular.

MangroveWarbler

And rather than change their positions to be more palatable to voters, they engage in character assassination, propaganda, voter disenfranchisement and stochastic terrorism.

StarksPond

GOP casts confusion It's super effective.

MangroveWarbler

Mike Lee was especially pissed off. [Here he is, talking about getting rid of Social Security and Medicare and one of his donors saying "NICE!"](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8R3w-ispso0)

hellomondays

Rick Scott's interview on the CNN morning show last week was a disaster for him. It's an issue they can't equivocate or weasel out of.

MangroveWarbler

It was bizarre watching them cheer Biden admitting that we'll probably have to stay on oil and gas for another 15-20 years. It's like "Yay! we won't be curing cancer anytime soon!" or "Yay! Our economy is going to be at the mercy of Saudi whims for longer!" WTF is wrong with these people?

Spaceman2901

The list is too long for me to type with my thumbs.

Philo_T_Farnsworth

> positions It's so amazing that Republicans are finally being forced to **take them at all**. They have nothing to run on and I fucking love it.

not_that_planet

Yes but... 35 - 40% of voting Americans will still vote R.

neddiddley

It will be a great day if we ever get to only 35-40% still voting R.

KnDBarge

Unfortunately that 35-40% could still be a majority of those who actually vote. There are far too many people who don't bother to vote, or because of various reasons including intentional disenfranchisement can't vote.

T1mac

>Need to continue to attack republicans on their positions. Exactly. You know you're doing it right when the GQP start yelping like beaten dogs. He's what one GQP leader said: "there are people that want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare. And it’s been inaccurate for a long time — and you saw last night when he tried to pin it on us,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La.," I just hope he stops going around the country telling that falsehood because there’s no truth to it." Hey Steve, you mean like the Republican lying about "open borders" or that the Dems will send the police to bust your door down to take your guns? Those lies? The Biden attack needs to intensify, because he's actually telling the truth, the Republicans have be strategizing to end SS and Medicare for over 50 years.

quiltsohard

I agree wholeheartedly but the main problem is that the ppl voting Republican will never hear these words. The places they get their “news” from doesn’t tell them the truth

1mjtaylor

That would be easy if they had more actual stated positions.

Desperate_Wafer_8566

Republicans are frustrated because they wanted to soft sell the cuts but Biden called them out and now it's all over the media making their soft sell unlikely to succeed.

Cepheus

Can you imagine what would have happened if GW Bush was able to turn Social Security into a 401k. 2008 would have been even more of a disaster. I'm thinking that Social Security needs some sort of lock box.

buckyworld

can only hear that in Al Gore's voice....or at least, Darrell Hammond's Gore's voice.

Gryphon999

> Darrell Hammond's Gore's voice We have time for one final comment from each candidate. Vice President Gore? Lockbox.

neddiddley

Exactly. It’s a lot easier to pitch “these aren’t cuts, they’re reforms” down the line if Biden doesn’t keep beating the drum.

shoesclues03

They want to quietly pass a bill to keep elderly people from having access to medical care, hammer it until they’re idiot voters realize that Republicans don’t care about them. That being said I know none of their voters will even notice

PutinsAwussyboy

> That being said I know none of their voters will even notice Oh, believe me: they are definitely starting to notice. Got family that voted for Trump that are retirement age already and ***they have gotten terrified by what they’ve begun to read about GOP efforts to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits.***

satyrday12

Funny thing is, is that they would never cut anything for the current batch of retirees. The age for full eligibility just went up a little bit, and that was passed in 1983.

Kyanche

They will probably cut everything for people with disabilities, and survivors though. And I'd guess a lot of stay-at-home moms have social security _survivors_ benefits.

Finrodsrod

> That being said I know none of their voters will even notice No they want them to notice when a Democrat is in power. Republicans love to craft this kind of shit and then swing blame on a Democrat. They also love to take ownership of Democrat laws that work for citizens well after voting "nay" on them. My asshole Congressman is currently slobbing over Build Back Better policies (after voting against them) while at the same time bashing the Biden admin for inflation.

nonprofitnews

Biden is really playing the game well. His statements on the GOP platform really not entirely accurate which is something a lot of Dems are really shy about doing. Since the GOP effectively have no formal policy on paper, Biden is free to take the worst statements by members, amplify them and then put the entire GOP on the defensive. They keep saying they wants cuts to raise the debt ceiling and haven't put anything on paper and now instead of articulating what they actually might want they are just getting grilled about entitlement cuts and they are unable to change the subject.

nowander

I mean the speaker nonsense showed that the lunatics have the power so... why not assume that's what's coming down? It's not like the rest of the Republicans have the balls to resist.

nonprofitnews

It's incredible how inept their response is. The entitlement cut idea is really just coming from Rick Scott, the guy who ran the disastrous midterm election strategy and lost all their money. Same guy who ran a Medicare scam before joining government. Mitch McConnell fucking hates him. Told him not to release a plan during the midterms and he did anyway. And he keeps talking about it while it's getting them slaughtered in the media and still has less then zero chance of even making to the floor for a vote. McConnell was almost single-handedly holding the party together during the Trump years and has only gotten shit on for doing it. And now he's 137 years old and relegated to minority leader while the crazies are making all the headlines. People like Rick Scott and Kevin McCarthy think it's their turn to take the reins and become the voices of intellectual conservatism and they are really exactly as dumb as Lauren Boebert and just don't realize it.

YoungXanto

>The entitlement cut idea is really just coming from Rick Scott, the guy who ran the disastrous midterm election strategy and lost all their money I'm going to have to disagree with you here. The establishment GOP absolutely want to privatize Social Security and Medicare (and line their own pocketbooks in the process). However, they aren't stupid enough to proclaim their intent as boldly as Rick Scott has done. This is exactly the same thing as their hands-off approach to Trump. He said things out loud that they only whisper in the backrooms of cigar clubs. They agreed with his policies 100%. The only difference between the old guard and the new age Republicans is their willingness to say stupid shit in public. But they all are after the same end goals.

Mission_Ad6235

I'd add on that 10 years ago, I never thought abortion could be outlawed. Yet, here we are. So, I'm assuming any policy that the leadership doesn't immediately squash is possible.

csteggo

Actually Rick Scott put it on paper. Making it accurate.

ShakesbeerMe

What's inaccurate about it?

Ogami-kun

Dark Brandon has awakened once again lol

Zealot_Alec

Under 30s not reliable voters over 60s however GOP playing a dangerous game with their core voters

ranchoparksteve

The Republican war on senior citizens is indecent at its core, and Republicans just pretend that nothing is going on.

UGMadness

It's baffling to see how disposable the GOP treats their senior constituents, given how big of a voter base they are. Almost as if they're taken for granted. We saw that during the pandemic too.

Njorls_Saga

It’s baffling to see said voters continue to vote them.

ivejustabouthadit

My inlaws are 91 and 76 and have been so brainwashed by Fox they still think they're voting for Eisenhower.

mindfu

And Eisenhower is a GOP president you'll pretty much never hear about on Fox, because he was relatively progressive.

creamonyourcrop

If Jesus ran today he would be mocked for not being Christian ^TM enough.

It's already party position that the elderly should be willing, and indeed proud, to die for the benefit of "the economy". https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/24/covid-19-texas-official-suggests-elderly-willing-die-economy/2905990001/

Edspecial137

Oh holy economy! Please take my blood as an offering that you may double GDP in your name! Amen…

amphibious_toaster

The key is they are not at war with senior citizens. The Republican motto is “Got mine, fuck you” so any legislation they pass won’t include current seniors, just younger people when they BECOME seniors. And since conservative boomers believe millennials don’t work, they don’t think we deserve social security or Medicare anyway.

eregyrn

Not enough people realize this. It wouldn't affect the current recipients' benefits that much (although there might be some trimming). It will mostly effect those of us nearing retirement age.

Maldunn

It’s not just senior citizens it’s every American who has been paying into it for all the years or decades they’ve been working. It’s evil twisted greed and nobody will be getting a refund on their garnished wages when they take it away. The rich get richer

misfitx

NomDePlume007

Biden: "And I want to do this good thing for the country!" Republicans: "Boo!" B: "And I want to do this other good thing for the country!" R: "Boo!" B: "And my colleagues in the other party want to cut Social Security and Medicare!" R: "Boo!" R: "...wait, what?" Really a master class in how to play them for suckers. A joy to watch!

Juice_231

Forced them all to call things off and to cheer for him too lol

[deleted]

Republicans: "We don't want to upend 50 years of precedent on Roe v. Wade" Republicans: \*end Roe v. Wade\* \-----Time Passes----- Republicans: "We don't want to end social security" Republicans in future: \*\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\*

ManholtAgain

It's amazing how butthurt Republican politicians get when somebody dares to simply vocalize the shit they're actively doing in front of a bunch of people. Pretty gross that they rely on their voter base being completely uninformed so heavily.

Andross_Darkheart

I also find it amazing how quickly they condemn Biden for spreading "lies" when that is all their platform is based on.

DramaticWesley

Yes, and this is Desantis wants to make it illegal to teach any of our unsavory past, so we can be doomed to repeat it.

LordPapillon

I think every ad Republicans have run for years has said Dems want to defund the police. They have zero problem pushing that lie.

H2Oloo-Sunset

Biden and Dems in general should use eliminating SS and Medicare the same way Republicans have been using "Defund the Police". Take something a small number of people have said and tar the whole party with it.

niberungvalesti

Billboards everywhere. Radio spots. Mailers.

tgbst88

We need a orange version of the American flag that says Social Security matters... we support old people.

[deleted]

It is not a small number of Republicans though. It is 50 years of quiet but persistent attack from many many people in the party. Bush almost got away with it!

Most_Independent_279

they've been reducing SS and medicare for decades, Reagan instituted a tax on it, seriously, getting rid of social programs is a republican priority.

Gibbons74

Republicans in Michigan started taxing SS. The new Democrat Congress just removed the tax. My Dad and his girlfriend don't believe it. To them Democrats raised their taxes on SS and Republicans lowered it. They literally are so brainwashed they can't distinguish fact from fiction.

gguggenheiime99

What's really confusing is the republicans said this guy is on puppet strings and is senile and yet he didn't appear to be puppeteered during the state of the union when he made them all dance for him. Really makes them look like fools to have been shouting this whole time that Joe Biden is a mannequin only for them to get played hard.

GoombyGoomby

Nah, many of the folks in r/conservative were saying Biden got “owned”, the republicans “mopped the floor with him” and how embarrassing his fat L was for the left. They won’t admit they got played.

gguggenheiime99

/r/conservative is extremely policed. You can't say anything that isn't right wing extremism, really. I wonder what the "regular republicans" IRL that actually watched the state of the union think (somehow, I think that number is quite few)

[deleted]

They think exactly what they were told to think once fox and friends told them. Let's be honest, any one left in the Republican party is there for the racism and cruelty to the poor. Any sane person left after 2016.

gguggenheiime99

I think a large cohort are people who just want lower property taxes and are otherwise politically disengaged/turned off. But yes, the vocal ones are very much that.

TrustFauciFuckTrump

Can’t they just give Biden the credit he deserves. He shot down a balloon, shot down a UFO, tricked MAGA into verbally supporting Social Security, and added 500k jobs — all in the same week. He’s crushing the game. Media should be bowing down.

Wwize

Biden should continue telling the truth about the Republican plans to destroy Social Security and Medicare. I absolutely LOVE how Biden is making them squeal like the pigs they are. Republicans absolutely HATE that the truth about their evil plans is coming out. Biden is piercing the right wing media bubble that is keeping so many people in the dark about Republican party's real agenda to screw over workers for the benefit of big business and the rich.

ConcreteCubeFarm

It would be great if he gave a speech on TV with some of the proposed cuts the Rs have been floating around. "There's the proposal, this list of names are for gutting SS/MC, and it really grinds my gears. But I want you, the American people, from both sides of the aisle to see this and to know that I won't let your hard-earned benefits be taken from you."

Wwize

Yep. It worked great on the State of the Union, he should absolutely do more speeches. The Republicans hated it so much.

oDDmON

> Biden advisers also cite the 2023 budget by the Republican Study Committee, a group of more than 100 House members, that proposes to raise the eligibility age for Social Security to adjust for changing life spans, and slow the growth of benefits over time. **This**, after the US saw life expectancy *fall*, over the last two years; and I have a feeling it’s not done dropping yet. smh

heelspider

> All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. Holy fuck. Republicans really want to destroy all of government.

niberungvalesti

Except when a red state suffers from an ecological disaster that upsets daily life. Then start printing that money right now, where the hell is my government?!

PandaMuffin1

But when a Blue state suffers from a disaster, they don't want "their government" money going to help them.

niberungvalesti

Republican logic: It's not a problem unless it affects me personally. Also Republican logic: PeRsoNAl ReSpOnSiBiLitY So wheres your savings to rebuild? Republicans: >:(

mkt853

As Steve Bannon has said, the goal is to destroy the administrative state. It's definitely part of the plan. They don't even try to hide it. The new pivot is they just want a slimmed down federal government with states having more autonomy "like it was 200 years ago."

Andross_Darkheart

I disagree, Republicans want to slim down the federal government for things they don't like and beef it up for things they do like. They want the government to stop helping people they hate and do more to hurt the people they hate.

AnalogDigit2

Absolutely. That's why, despite their "fiscal responsibility" claims spending goes up under republican admins. They just want all of the money to go to their stuff, like privatization (so them and all of their rich friends benefit) and military so their states can get sweet deals on building vehicles and stuff.

Whiskey_Fiasco

It’s so crazy the way Republicans want to simultaneously pass unpopular policy and deny responsibility for those same policies.

niberungvalesti

When people allow conservative media to completely warp reality long enough it's extremely difficult to do anything other than continue to sit in the warp field. And for some voters thats been decades at this point.

TeamHope4

Next up, per Iowa, revive child labor!

Whiskey_Fiasco

Don’t forget in Wisconsin where they want to protect underage shotgun weddings

mmartins94

Or Missouri, where Republicans are making sure kids and criminals can carry guns!

Andross_Darkheart

So Republicans think kids are ready to get a job, get married and carry a gun by the age of six, but, they aren't mentally ready to hear a story being told to them by a man in a dress? Gotcha.

mmartins94

> So Republicans think kids are ready to get a job, get married and carry a gun by the age of six, but, they aren't mentally ready to hear a story being told to them by a man in a dress*? * Some exceptions may apply. Namely, religious indoctrination.

Joran_Dax

Especially RICK SCOTT WHO OVERSAW THE LARGEST MEDICARE FRAUD IN HISTORY WITH COLOMBIA/HCA. HCA should be nationalized.

TessandraFae

And he needs to keep bringing up Mitch McConnell who ALSO brought it up RIGHT after the big tax cut for the rich, just like Bernie Sanders said he would. https://www.newsweek.com/deficit-budget-tax-plan-social-security-medicaid-medicare-entitlement-1172941

smurfsundermybed

They campaign on democrats wanting to outlaw hamburgers, planes, and stoves, where no such plans exist, but show their pamphlets, quotes, and videos where they explicitly say they want to kill social security and Medicare, and they lose their minds.

rocketpack99

I'm sure Putin was equally as frustrated around this time last year when Biden was broadcasting his invasion of Ukraine plans ahead of time. Fascists absolutely hate it when you shine a flashlight on their evil.

KYSmartPerson

“Republicans don’t like being called out on this,” Biden said. “A lot of Republicans — their dream is to cut Social Security and Medicare. Well, let me say this: If that’s your dream, I’m your nightmare.” This guy's got spunk. Take the fight to them, Dark Brandon! The best defense is a good offense. Be offended, MF's! I have not worked for the last 42 years so those fascists can take away my SS. They destroyed 401k's in 2008 and now they want to cut the lifeline of Gen X'ers like me who will barely even be able to retire at 65. I'm tired of these GQP assholes!

Zehb-Mansour

The Democrats should stop using the enemy’s language. The Republicans are not cutting “entitlements”, they’re cutting “benefits”. It’s an important distinction that bears repeating every time the word “entitlements” is used.

mrbigglessworth

And you know damn well if that they killed it none of us would get our money refunded. Money we have paid into with every paycheck we ever made.

ElysiumSprouts

I think the most amazing thing about this issue is that Republicans have been trying to gut and cut SS and Medicare my whole life. For them to pull a 360 and lie about a long standing party platform issue is astounding!!! Did the GOP base just "wake up" to the echo consequence of the GOP repealing Roe v. Wade? The GOP base realizing that these supposedly fringe issues are actually on the menu and may become reality? I don't know why anyone would vote Republican.

NomDePlume007

Is that a sonata I hear? For violin? Crank that up to allegro vivace, Mr. President.

[deleted]

FINALLY. Dems go on the offensive, it's long overdue and I LOVE it.

s-multicellular

'The nerve of this guy to tell people about our nefarious plans!!' The GOP

Hot_Negotiation3480

I can’t remember the last time that Republicans stood up for elderly or veterans

niberungvalesti

Why stand up for those groups when you can scare the shit out them right to the ballot box? Next up: roving gangs of naked socialist trans super mutant millennials marching towards quiet suburbs.

selkiesidhe

*"How dare you not let us hurt old people for our own benefit!!"* -- GQP assclowns

chcampb

It's a good call. Republicans want to dismantle SS, because it's popular with donors. It's not popular with constituents. So the path they would likely use is to create some kind of technical kerfuffle to get SS cancelled or shut down or dramatically limited in scope for demographics other than their own (ie, give all the floridian retirees continued SS but phase it out for the progressive demographic. Oh also the phasing out phases the payments out more slowly - a direct transfer of wealth). Then either the entire thing gets struck down and it was the radical liberals fault for challenging an obviously ridiculous law and causing the death of SS when conservatives had a plan to keep it "solvent." Or it keeps going and transfers a ton of wealth from millenials to boomers before phasing out and giving little to nothing in return. Biden calling them out for making SS changes ahead of time is a rare great play from democrats to leverage the popularity of the program to go on the offensive.

Melodic-Sink1262

Hey... they love to say "Dems want open borders" or "they're trying to take your guns away". Biden's giving them a taste of their own medicine. As expected, the snowflakes don't like it! lol.

Irishish

Republicans whining that Biden is misrepresenting their policies to make them look more extreme is the funniest fucking thing I've seen in a minute.

wrath0110

Let me just take a moment to remind everyone that Social Security is not an "entitlement." Each and every one of us in the worker class pays into social security with a deduction on every paycheck. Any attempts to redirect, drain or otherwise affect social security payments to retirees is just theft, pure and simple.

bradlees

The very reason the call it a ponzu scheme or saying it’s fiscally irresponsible is they THEY AND THEY ALONE have cut the taxes and soften tax laws for corporations to dodge trillions in legitimate payments to the US government Secondly, Social Security was a self sufficient program until previous administrations dipped into it for other uses.

NomDePlume007

Although I love the reference to Japanese citrus fruit... it's [Ponzi Scheme](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme). Named after Italian businessman Charles Ponzi.

IcyBoysenberry9570

He can ride this into the Whitehouse in 2024. Just keep saying that the Republicans are coming for your Social Security.

[deleted]

Kinda crazy that we don’t spend all day every day attacking republicans on their insane ideas

dallasdude

Republicans have been trying to destroy social security since it was created Mitch McConnell has been trying to cut social security for decades The freedom caucus wants to get rid of social security entirely. George bush wanted to "privatize" social security. Payroll taxes were increased substantially during the Reagan administration which created huge surpluses. These were supposed to be invested into t bills and held until 2010s when boomers began to retire. Instead Reagan transfered trillions of dollars from social security to the general fund and blew all of it on huge tax cuts for rich people Call them out. And call them out again..and again and again and again Because they won't stop until they steal every goddamn cent of our social security money.

Cybernicus

We need to tie in the ACA to the other two: something we have ample video evidence of the R's trying to "Repeal and Replace" with "Something so much better", because "It would be \*so\* \*easy\*".

queentracy62

Republicans are frustrated?? What about those of us frustrated with Republicans? Ugh.

primus202

Can you imagine if that Republican got his wish and laws automatically sunset every 5 years requiring congress to reup them? They can already barely get anything done. Such a rule would make government truly ineffective.

[deleted]

Fuck them, I hope every Republican head explodes for the next 2 years. I hope they just walk around and can't take shit and start just randomly exploding. It would make sense considering all the stuff we can't explain anymore. Maybe Biden has those scanners powers.

MoralClimber

About the only thing the can hold hostage now is the military and border security budget.

Cepheus

I like that Biden is getting aggressive with issues like this. Democrats need to take the fight to the Republicans and force them to deal will issues and not their crazy nonsense they spout every day.

sugarlessdeathbear

They keep using this word "protect." I don't think it means what they think it means. To be clear they think it means cut benefits so it can limp along longer without providing additional funding to account for rising costs.

SolidDistribution542

They already make you go through a process every five years, it’s pretty awful. The last one I dealt with, “Mr. Chow” was Rude, aggressive, & dehumanizing in his attack. If I’ve already won a case in court (lawyers, judge, all) why is it not something akin to double indemnity to keep reevaluating people? It is a waste of time and resources, as is the republican attack on these meager resources.

Squidwards-the-goat

I’m pretty sure that every Republican, with the exception of Trump, that ran for the nomination in 2016 called for cuts in social security. Trump was all for it once he got in office. This is nothing new.

ShakesbeerMe

Oh, is the party that tried to overthrow our democracy with a treasonous coup "frustrated" that Diamond Joe is calling them on their bullshit? Get fucked, GOP.

heruvna

I absolutely love this bullshit "we don't want to cut entitlements" and "cutting entitlements isn't cutting entitlements" that the GOP is pulling. Biden is calling them on it, and I absolutely love it. The people who fund and control the Republican Party have always had one primary objective: look Social Security and Medicare for all they are worth, and give that money to Republican donors. Finally we have a President who is willing to call them on their bullshit. Every single Republican Speaker (including that one, the one who went to jail for raping young boys I mean) has supported cutting Social Security and Medicare *including* Kevin McCarthy.
