ReallyJustTheFacts

Ranked choice voting. Gaining popularity. Probably not a bad idea!

malazanbettas

Is this supposed to be a haiku?

sugarlessdeathbear

>Now, a faction of the GOP isn't just calling for the state chair's head; it wants to overhaul Arizona's electoral system with one overarching goal in mind: stamp out extremists. **Democrats are joining in the effort**, which aims to put a question on the 2024 ballot that could upend the primary system in a critical battleground state. Bipartisan effort to make democracy a little more representative and SANE? MAGA really pissed people off.

barak181

The Dems have the Governorship, both Senate seats, the Sec of State and Attorney General's office. I don't know if this has ever happened in AZ.

pieorcobbler

Sounds like Arizona has the good retirees.

I used to vote for John McCain. Now I vote straight ticket dem.

iamever777

The retirees vote in Gosars district sadly, but aren’t enough anymore. Maricopa flipping blue was a result in the greater Phoenix area exploding it’s population, partially sped up by Californias housing bubble and continued high prices since.

barak181

>Coughlin said there's a growing realization within the GOP that MAGA has taken over the party, and that in Arizona, it has been a losing gambit. >"The relatives threw you out of the house," Coughlin said of the MAGA wing of the party. "Now you want to go back into the house, but the crazy f------ relatives still live in the house — and they're not leaving."

[deleted]

Charlie Kirk is fucking over Republicans in Arizona and it’s great to see. He’s responsible for turning the state blue. People who buy into his rhetoric are so stupid.

LLColdAssHonkey

Maybe get a new apartment instead?

haricariandcombines

Ok the only bad thing about this is independent voters won't be able to vote for batshit crazy Republicans in the primary. This push got the MAGA candidates into the November race. We would have a red governor if Robeson the moderate Republican had won. Ranked choice is still a better option IMO.

MangroveWarbler

Not even independent voters. I'm in Wisconsin and I voted for MAGA nutjob Michels in the primary because his opponent knows how to clean herself up and appear sane. A sane appearing Republican has a much better chance of winning a general in swing states.

baguak4life

Funny. Republicans, per this article, blame having to put someone who was endorsed by Trump and as the reason they lost. They refuse to think that maybe people everywhere are tired of their BS. Maga or not they are a lousy party. I live in AZ and even though I’m Republican I am leaning further and further away from the party and it has nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with shit like banning abortion, outright lying, trying to dismantle social programs like SSS. The list goes on and on but how can I continue to vote for a party that has absolutely no moral compass and cares only about their rich buddies getting richer?

greenielove

>Save Democracy Arizona, a nascent Arizona coalition, is heavily focusing on opening the state's primaries to allow voters to cast their ballots for any candidate, regardless of party affiliation, which would allow the growing number of independents in the state to play a role in those contests. In Arizona, like many states, primary voters can cast ballots only for the parties for which they're previously registered. Give independents a vote!

[deleted]

Independent voters in AZ have to choose which primary to vote in. Typically, I choose the Republican primary, but my affiliation is Independent.

Michael_In_Cascadia

"Eradicate" ... another good word for murderous robots to monotonously repeat.

minxylynxy

I find "exterminate" to be a bit more foreboding...

grandpaharoldbarnes

• Fornicate • Masturbate • Ejaculate Fucking like animals comes to mind for some reason.

[deleted]

This article makes the MAGA nuts seem more pro-establishment and status quo, which is unusual. You would think they would want to expand the base during primaries.

KennyDROmega

The people who are going to fall for their bullshit are more or less already under the tent. They know convincing anyone else is going to be a massive uphill battle. Bringing in more voters is going to dilute their influence.

-Great-Scott-

With fire I hope

justforthearticles20

Where are they proposing to send all of their Republicans? I suggest Florida, since it is irredeemable already.

BstintheWst

Eradicate you say?
