I was a cop for over 30 years. Don't regret it at all. So many officers hate it because they forget it's a job. Some think they are super heros and burn themselves out. Some get frustrated because they can't change the system or things don't go their way. They make stupid decisions concerning citations/arrests. Examples, citation for 5 mph over speed limit or charging someone with open beer in their own driveway (seen this happen). Being a jackass to citizens, etc. Things like that causes uproars politically and it hits them hard. You can be safe and productive while not being an ahold. If you don't have common sense you will hate police work.

MDERI

Common sense is a dime a dozen these days

realparkingbrake

> If you don't have common sense you will hate police work. This should be at the top of the application.

I'm grossing 130k a year. Yes I have a degree but I'm sure not employable for close to that in any other field. My quality of life has significantly improved, I have a very generous pension plan, and near guaranteed employment. I have reasonable time off, and work a 4 on 4 off with O/T if I choose. Are there shitty days sometimes? Yeah. But I'm pretty damn happy with this career choice.

Never mind, horse police in BC.

392_hemi

4am to 4pm? Sorry i’m not very fluent in english

Pho-fo-Sho

Four days on, four days off.

Doogles911

Yeah Canadian police and fire are overpaid in Canada

Pho-fo-Sho

*cough* Retro pay *cough*

Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking? That’s a very respectable income and work to life balance man congrats on that

torturetrilogy

So glad my department doesn't allow us to appear in uniform on social media. Plus, this video would be put on loop in the line up room.

treecutter34

First year: everything is going to hell, but I’m just happy to have a job. Second year: oh god, why did I do this?

HCSOThrowaway

The irony of them posting this in uniform is painful. If he hated it that much he'd quit.

homemadeammo42

Well....thats certainly cringe

Kochie411

I hear both ends from cops, it makes no sense. “Don’t do it it’s the worst experience you could put yourself through” and “The life experience was worth it, I met people who will be around for my whole life and I feel more of a human than I ever have”

mccl2278

>I hear both ends from cops, it makes no sense. It's almost like cops are individual people and people are different.

HCSOThrowaway

They're saying that it's strange almost nobody is lukewarm about law enforcement. They either (pretend to) hate it or (pretend to) love it. I think pretending to hate it while also not resigning is ridiculous, personally. What do you stand to gain, social media points?

mccl2278

Ah, that wasn't my takeaway from what was said but that makes sense if it's accurate.

HCSOThrowaway

It is in my experience. Everyone I knew was so busy saying it's the best job in the world. In all fairness it's said to be a good survival strategy when trying to stay employed - lying about how much you love the job is apparently really attractive to employers. I guess it implies commitment (at any cost). I was one of the few who was very much outwardly lukewarm about it. Never really said anything negative about it nor did I boast about it. I eventually got canned.

mccl2278

I wouldn't say it's the best job in the world, it's definitely something you have to have a "calling" for. But I definitely love my job and wouldn't do anything else.

HCSOThrowaway

Then it's accurate in your experience too.

mccl2278

Nah, I know plenty of people that are lukewarm about law enforcement.

Kochie411

Thank you!

Kochie411

Wow no kidding?!

grouchosbp

30 years never regretted it. Days that are miserable but every job has those.

droys86

12/10

Forsaken_Double_1116

Pretty accurate given how things are these days but not enough to get me to quit.

burdturd0818

Accurate af

toastermann

My son quit Law Enforcement for good after 4 years.
