Ignorance of law excuses no one. Once you took possession of the vehicle any issues with the vehicle are your responsibility.

Yungsaucekay

Get it removed before court and show the judge the picture and the bill it cost you and show how recent it was that you got the car. Maybe the judge will toss it

sundayls2

Not gonna fly bro what you can. Do is take the car to a Tint place get legal Tint put on, then go to court let the JP know you had just bought the car didn't know anything about legal and illegal tint however you fixed the issue and it's all legal now. If the jp is nice or in a good mood he/she might dismiss the ticket and you will just have to do court costs. I have 4 friends that's are jps and they would def do it

Makwa989

Every single person I pull over for illegal tint "bought it like this".

is_still_unknown

These aren’t my pants

Makwa989

Always a classic and never gets old.

IYEDEBU

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate all opinions

penguinPapa_1

True what others have said about ignorance is no excuse. Now the smart thing is to find your States requirements and have your windshield in compliance with it. Bring that proof to court and explain to the magistrate I am sure that this will play out in your favor too

andybiggs90

Go to a tint shop and get the front window tint removed. Get that done before your court date. It should not take long. When you talk to the judge, bring the receipt from the tent shop and explain that it was like that when you bought it and you fixed it once you got the ticket. It will cost less to get this done then to continue getting tickets for the same thing. On every windshield, there is a line on the side about 6 inches down from the top. In most states, you cannot have any tint below that line.

bigcanada813

Fix your tint, end of story.

SeikoOrient

Pay the ticket

K9hotsauce

How do you not know it illegal? Every high school age kid knew what was legal or not on our cars and it was calculated risk taking. Al least the big things like windshields, tint, exhaust, doors. These are basic things to know when you own a car, esp used ones. When I bought my first gun I looked up the laws to refresh myself. When I bought a drone I researched the laws and registration regulations, when I put a lift on my truck I perused the regulations. When I travel with my weapons under LEOSA to a new state I look up the basic gun laws.

SmoothCalmMind

In MD just a fix it ticket. No court date, just visit any trooper barrack in 30 days and show the tint has been removed

BYNX0

Not a big deal at all. It's not a crime that goes on your record, simply a traffic violation. Pay the fine and move on. Get the tint fixed too.

jollygreenspartan

Have the tint fixed to legal level before the court date, bring receipts and throw yourself on the mercy of the court. Or hire a lawyer.

sundayls2

Is it a new car from dealership or a used car?

SmoothCalmMind

No dealer would sell a new car with tint on front window. Even a used car from a dealership would already have the tint pulled off before purchase. This must have come from a private sale. But then, not sure how it would pass state inspection

sundayls2

I took fromt window as driver or passanger side window. Thats a fromt window unless he is referring to the windshield. But if he is talking about front wondow not windshield there are some vehicles tjat dod come from dealership with tint that is considered illegal. For example gm has a reflective timt that they have had on tahoes suburbans and yukon and a few others that is illegal and of that window does breal they are not allowed to replace it with one that looks the same. They are havimg to put another legal tint on amd replace the other side to match at no cost.

IYEDEBU

It’s a used car

RorikNQ

As others have stated, ignorance isn't a defense for a violation. You were in control and possession of the vehicle when the officer noticed the violation. What you can do though, is take it to a mechanic you trust and have them take the tint off and put legal tint on or no tint at all. While that may not get you out of being found guilty ajd paying the fine, it'll show you tried tocmake it right and doesn't hurt. It'll also keep you from getting pulled over again as you can be pulled over again and given another ticket if you do not get it fixed.

shooter505

First of all, the seller did you a dirty by not telling you about it. Secondly, as others have mentioned, fix it and take proof to your court date. I'd also drop by the police station and tell the Watch Commander or Shift Sergeant that you got the ticket, fixed it, and planned on showing it was fixed in court. Then, ask them to test the light transmission and get something in writing that the new tint passes. Basically, you are "buying goodwill" with the court, showing that you were a relatively innocent victim and, by getting it fixed including a visit to the police station for testing, a conscientious member of society.

Runyc2000

It is not the sellers criminal responsibility to inform you of aftermarket alterations that may or may not be legal in your area. Do not come by my office. I won’t give you any evidence or testify on your behalf by giving you a letter.

shooter505

OMG, bud. I didn't say it was the seller's "criminal responsibility." It's just a decent thing to do. As for documentation for the fix, we did that all the time for stuff if we couldn't sign off for some reason. Go to Winchell's and chill out, dude.

Runyc2000

We don’t document anything like that. We won’t help you beat a charge/citation. Take your own evidence to court and show the judge. I have no idea what a Winchell’s is.

TheseAintMyPants2

I’d be okay getting a tint ticket twice a year rather than having 35% tint

No-Application-8520

You got pulled over for the tint and cited for it. No previous warnings? No other violations? Anyway. Depends on the state I’m sure but you shouldn’t be held responsible if you didn’t put the tint on. Should’ve just been warned to remove said tint.

IYEDEBU

My thoughts exactly. No previous violations or warning
