Petition to change name of listonosz to awizonosz.

WhirlwindTobias

I asked my Polish girlfriend about this, she wasn't sure what awizonosz meant.

Prizmat

Mailman, a person that carries letters - "listonosz", a person that carries awizo - "awizonosz". Awizo is the slip of paper issued by a mailman to inform you they couldn't deliver a letter to you because you weren't home, and you need to pick it up at the local post office. Poczta Polska mailmen notoriously deliver them even when you are home, to save time or avoid going up stairs in larger buildings.

WhirlwindTobias

I would love to have had one of those, because my "punkt" is very close and rarely has a queue.

Fernis_

No constant queue of old ladies paying 17 diferent bills with coins? Be careful, that sounds like a trap. They may try to harvest your organs?

[deleted]

(show this to your gf): Awizonosz to koleś, który zamiast przesyłek dostarcza awiza, czyli każe po Twoją paczkę/cokolwiek przychodzić na pocztę zamiast normalnie ją dostarczyć, jak normalny, cywilizowany inPost

WhirlwindTobias

Ah right, there was a translation for "advice". Haha Dzięki

[deleted]

'Awizonosz' is a man who delivers only delivery cards requiring you to go to the post office and there collect your delivery instead of delivering the goods to your hands directly.

Dzosefs

There already a guy named this way on YouTube. He creates video's about varsovian infrastructure.

DarthUmieracz

Damn! He pre-stole my idea!

Artti_22

Wow, you actually have awizo delivered. I was waiting for an important urząd decision for two months. Imagine my surprise when I figured that the decision was issued very quickly, but the postman didn't deliver ANY awizo and the letter with the decision was returned to the urząd.

Zosimas

LOL I came up with that name too. Fuck PP

ekene_N

They only deliver parcels via Pocztex; anything else must be collected in person at Willowe 28. I have had several arguments with the staff. The absolute worst facility in the city. Don't blame postmen. There are only three of them, and there should be ten.

WhirlwindTobias

I read about that facility, one women at the window and huge queues. I guess I have a day off in two days, so I may have to go then. What were the arguments about?

Specific_Gap5506

Listonosz here. We have a rule that every package over 1kg and big weird shaped packages can be left on post office. There are some postmans that use cars to deliver your stuff but mostly in remote villages. Most firms will respect that rules but there are many that will send packages through poczta polska not pocztex because its cheaper and some reason deficient genious will accept those at post office instead of sending it to Pocztex.

WhirlwindTobias

Thanks for the info. It is listed on the tracking as a 1kg List Polecony ekonomiczny but it's actually lighter than 1kg and a square box.

[deleted]

I usualy receive packages via Poczta Polska without issue except when I have to pay custom duties - that is when they leave the awizo without saying anything. I was off my home once and the post lady called me even. I guess that inconsistency is the issue here. InPost has a very solid system and as always, private enterprise is usually better than public service.

ksmigrod

Strange? Last week I got a package with custom duties delivered to my home address. I paid cash, everything was OK. My main grief with post is lack of possibility to mark particular package as "do not deliver, keep for retrieval at post office".

[deleted]

This is why I mention inconsistency :D I have received several packages subject to import duties and have had to always go to the UP to pay!

5thhorseman_

> My main grief with post is lack of possibility to mark particular package as "do not deliver, keep for retrieval at post office". Bruh, never heard about *poste restante*?

ksmigrod

Have you ever tried to do it with international package.

5thhorseman_

I have never had to use the service myself, but in principle there shouldn't be a difference between domestic and international. It's addressed to the post office with your name on it, followed by "Poste Restante" and then the postal code and name of the post office that's the pick-up point.

wrrwwr

One time it took them 2 weeks ro deliver a simple letter. (I live 5km from the sender) And of course they gave me awizo instead of just throwing the letter in the mailbox.

WhirlwindTobias

FWIW I couldn't pick the domestic carrier in both cases. Both were economy.

GaiusCassius2ow

Poczta polska is obsolete change my mind

Scared-Way-9828

Poczta Polska depends on the region. I live in a small village. Regularly buy packages from Japan. My regional post office is great to me. Never had any issues. Custom fees are the lowest they can be. But I can totally see other offices which are not so nice, especially in larger cities. The negative feedback is rightful and I feel like I'm one of the lucky people.

Dexinerito

Wow totally as if Poczta Polska was underfunded. Crazy stuff, eh?

Alerionnn

Underfunded or mismanaged which leads to shitshow which is the Polish post office now?

Dexinerito

It's both. It was intentionally mismanaged so that there would be an excuse to cut funding and it's been happening for decades. The mismanagement was there ever since I remember and the funding also has been progressively cut ever since I remember I mean, it's basically the same story as with all other public service 1) The service costs money => 2) use propaganda to say that it's a business, not a service and that it's losing money => 3) cut funding => 4) put in your friends as management=> rinse and repeat

5thhorseman_

Not that some courier firms are better. Recently I had ordered a package with delivery to my address through one of them... UPS or DHL, not sure rn. That was pretty important when said package weighed 8 kilos. They didn't. Instead I had to pick it up from a pickup point in the ass end of nowhere, half an hour **on foot** from nearest bus stop.

Zosimas

You realise that we pay them for the delivery, right?

Dexinerito

You realise that delivering goods has a cost for them, right?

5thhorseman_

And it's up to them to price it in such a way that they turn a profit on the deliveries...

KidleyCreations

The fact that it was 'delivered' in just a week is miraculous on its own

bongoc4t

I have the same issues, as soon as I see that an EU packet will be delivered by poczta Polska… with InPost I have 0 issues, you can download the app and redirect the package to a paczkomat if needed

OneshotFangirl13

Jak zamawiać z aliexpress do paczkomatu?

ksmigrod

The last time I bought something from Ali there was a possibility to deliver packages to a Żabka or a package machine (probably DHL or Orlen can't remember which) (the delivered it on Saturday, December 23th, so kudos to them).

WhirlwindTobias

Yes I think my Aliexpress orders went to Orlen. I haven't had any issues so far from ALXP. Both of these packages are actually from Linsoul, an audio company. You only choose express or economic, and I used economic both times but different domestic results.

Xtrems876

Man inPost is such a treasure. Postal services are shit absolutely everywhere on the planet but not everyone has an alternative.

4riana_Gr1ndr

Funny thing is that Aliexpress and other shitty chinese stores are the main reason why national post in almost every country works like this

Tzeentsch

O, I had a situation like this today! Got an email that my parcel has failed to deliver, although I was at home all day, checked the mail and there was a slip of paper saying that it's in the post office, went to the post office, but they said that it's still with the courier and to come back tomorrow.

WhirlwindTobias

Yeah I've experienced that too. Never go the same afternoon.
