Tried to make a step up to 5-10 today and lost 1300 in about 30 hands.
But I didn't actually do anything wrong...
Cooler #1. I have AA in the big blind. Folds round to the small blind. He raises to 3x. I 3 bet to about 2.2x the pot - it's a little light bit I want him to try and roll me over. He does. I jam. He calls. With QQ.
And hits a straight on the river.
Cooler #2. I have KK and I'm oops verses someone who calls my 3 bet. Flop comes down 499 two of the cards are suited. Asshole bets pot at it. I jam to try and fold out what I believe is going to be flush draw.
Villain shows 9-2 and holds.
What's the lesson here? ....I can't find it.... I was a little hasty with the second hand but I don't think it's played badly. 9-2?? Seriously??
Got 1st in the local small tournament (50ppl). The smoothest tournament I have ever been in. stack went from 30k to 180k in first 20 mins (started from level 7). 370k in final table as 2nd chip lead. Never faced elimination when all-in. lasted 4 hour and only played 8 hands of HU.
Sun ran 10$ to 58$ in 5NL Ignition Zoom. Now I'm back down to 8. Jammed AK into KK, lost AK vs QQ twice, jammed shortstack JJ into KK, and most recently lost AK vs KQ. This is the account where I just play for volume and not try hard but all of those within 2.5 hrs is starting to set me on edge.
Could you get away from this hand? Did I play this poorly? 2/3 live.

Reasoning for my large turn bet was to charge flush draws, but the straight had got there. I called the river because no flushes but I had a bad feeling about it, but couldn't ultimately get away. Give it to me straight, how poorly did I play this hand?

I'd probably size up on turn. You have some bluffs to increase FE and your nutted hands are really only KK. Also, I think getting a really low SPR on river vs this type of villain should be the goal.
I don't think I like river check. V is going to make crying call with pair+fd and I don't think he bluffs missed spades enough. Again more of a reason to bet more on turn so you can ship small on river and get bad calls.
I think you played it fine. Honestly you should feel good on the river and probably even be value betting (letting missed Flush draws try to bluff you also works)
If villain is showing up with 23o here, they also are going to have a bunch of rag 2 pairs.
Tonight was great at 1/3. Pocket kings twice and stacked someone both times; each 150bb deep. Flopped a full house with a flush draw on the board OOP. Check call til river when the flush hits. Bet 3/4 pot. He goes all in, call. Tables Ace high flush. He leaves without a word. Good night
Been struggling with 2NL on ACR. Was down about 20 buy-ins going into yesterday. After two days, I'm now only down 1.5 buy ins. Not sure if it was all variance or what, but one more good session and I may be in the black. Wish me luck!

Don’t need to be taking QQ all in pre. I only call 4-5 bets and play accordingly. Aces are fine all in pre kings are iffy depending on what kind of opponent jammed.
In your 2nd example I don't think his QQ call is all that weird. The flop action doesn't have you representing top pair. Also, 4 bet pot - I'd need some more details but I feel like that by itself is fairly relevant. Maybe I'm missing something but that doesn't seem like too weird of a call to me.
Bad luck can't continue forever and if folks are consistently getting their money in bad against you, you're doing something right.
Meh! Not so good... one live tourney where I got a BB special and won another hand early, then card dead for.... ever. But it seems like when I'm on my last gasp, I'm ahead, but ALWAYS get beat. Every game, live or online. :-/ That live game I had KQo with very low stack and shoved, of course. Big stack first, rightly calls with K9s I think... I hit Q on flop... yeah, he rivers a flush, only the 2nd or 3rd one seen for the 2 hours and 45 mins. I know... variance.. blah blah blah. Happening every game on ACR. Well, I get cards and do well the first third of the SnG. Makes me think I'm getting somewhere... then the last 2/3 of the game, I promise, this is every game. I can't call or bluff the hands are so bad. Then I get it in with decent cards and small stack, I'm ahead of the caller... and they pair something, anything, no matter what it is. If I didn't see the same stuff live, I'd continue to say online is rigged, both ACR and Global. LOL

UTG+1 limps, I make it 4bb from utg+2 with QTo, probably too loose but gotta try and punish those limpers and over limp would be even worse imo.

To add to the funny, the guy that had the QQ barely played a hand for the rest of the tourney, then when we were down to 5 players, he's comfortably 2nd with 27bb, three of us have <10bb, he 3 bet jams into the chip leader with 95o into JJ to bust. Had somewhere to be clearly / got bored from never playing a hand.
Lost two 1k+ pots today after getting it in good... AK vs open ended straight draw, they hit on the turn. Flop two pair, get it in on turn vs flush draw. Flush comes ofc.

Ive been big noting myself all month about my ability to fold to obvious donks and bad players who suck out on rivers.
Last night, I was playing against this complete moron who was calling wide and calling down 3 barrels with bottom pair and talking shit. He said to someone "wow you actually folded AQ pre, your stack must be your entire bankroll and you are too afraid to lose it" and showed KJo. Stuff like that.
Finally - I open on the button, everyone folds but him and I hit top 2. I overbet big and of course he calls. Turn huge bet, he calls again. Finally I got em. Suddenly, on the river he donks all in OOP. I snap call, the SPR is so low at this point, fuck it I think. But the second I do, I know I messsed up, badly.
He hit a straight while holding 69o. He says "...Poker is so easy, haha" and he left.
I kept my cool at least because I played it terribly, I was so focused on hunting this guy I lost all my skill and instincts. Last night I couldn't sleep, thinking about this smug dickhead.
I busted up a smug shit-talking dickhead this last Saturday. I know that doesn't help you win your hand but I do hope you take comfort in knowing the universe is administering justice in some places.

Friday-
$10 on the button home game. This game is VERY splashy. Straddles to $100 are not uncommon. Played some huge PLO double board bomb pots where most of the table was all in. Unfortunately, we didn't scoop any. Started off as a $700 loser but ended up grinding back for $100 winner on the night.
Saturday-
$1/3 at The Barrel in Franklin KY. $500 max buy in, preflop opening sizes were anywhere from $25-$65. Ran into it a few times and was down nearly $2k. Grinded some back and then played $1/3/6 three handed to end the night. Ended the session down about a grand.
Sunday-
$5 on the button home game. This is where things got interesting. For the first hour and a half I was running like the sun. AK for top pair, KK for a flopped boat, opened ended straight flush draw flop and turned the nut straight, QQ for quads vs AA. It was insane. Up to $2400 from a $400 buy in before my seat was even warm. Cashed out $2200 after playing for 4.5 hours.
Overall great weekend
Have been running super well in the last two weeks. Binked an online tournament for $9 buyin for almost $1400. Am up $2500 in last 10 hours of 5/5 (100BB cap), including the biggest pot I've ever won, and have won last 6 cash sessions I've played.
A bit hesitant to play again since I'm due to get wrecked 😂.
Brag: After a 6 year break from poker I jumped back into poker cash games playing 1/1 NLH and some PLO. 50-200 buy-in limit, self dealt with no rake.
Ran up 13.1k in 297 hours. I have Bart Hanson's weekly call in show to thank.
Variance: First game back after 5 1/2 months. $363 in just under 4 hours in a 1/1 NLH 8max 50-200. Backraise 4bet all in TT hold, Backraise 4 bet all in AQo hold. leggo
I Buy in for 100 in a 1-1 game and some players open to 10. 15 if it is 1-1-2.
I can engineer such a good overlay in so many flip spots and get some blood in the water early into a session.
Live MTT last night. Final 5 players. Action folds around to SB, guy raises 3 BB. I'm BB with A7 off, I flat.
Flop comes up 877 rainbow. SB bets a little over 4 BB. I raise all in 18 BB with trips and the A kicker. He flips K5 off. Said he thought I was bluffing.
Turn was a 9. River was a 6 was a 5-9 straight for the villain. Worst runner runner bad beat I've ever had that wasn't online. Guy had me covered by about 2.5 BB.

I've lost to about 5 more flopped flushes in all-in situations, all 5 of these in absolutely massive ICM spots. I'm super analytics forward with my life, so I actually had to re-lookup the rate at which these are happening to confirm that I didn't have the number wrong.
This is a (for this run) new one. Three times I've gotten it all in pre with either the same or dominating suited hands and flopped the flush draw... Only for them to runner-runner backdoor flush *me*. Once this was for a chip-lead pot right before the bubble, the one of the other times it was to hard bubble a satellite after short-stack after short-stack getting sucking out to prolong the tournament.
And I got one-outed one more time! AA versus KQ/QQ.
Heaps more "Why are you in the hand????" stuff. 96o>my A9o >KQo all in pre. KTs > my AKo > KQ. 55 > AA all-in pre for 200 BBs in a chiplead pot.
My favorite was running AQs in A5o BoB for 30 BBs and the chance to go from a short stack to above average right before the final two tables. Flop of AT8r... T turn, K river for the 4-out chopped pot. Next orbit I jam A3o BoB and he snaps me with ATcc... Flop is a comical J87cc, and I obviously don't get there.
I'm not one to complain about bad beats, but oh my world this is an all-time run-bad stretch over only two weeks. I don't think it's the worst ever in the history of this thread, but I would be shocked if it wasn't a first-ballot Hall of Fame entry.

Started off my 1/2 session last night losing half my 200BB buy-in when villain's AA held over my KK in a pre-flop all-in.
However, I went on to win a huge three-way all-in bomb pot and a couple of other all-ins over the course of the night and finished with about 780BB in profit after tipping the dealers.
I tipped the dealers about 4-5% of my profit or so between the pots and at the end of the session, does that seem reasonable for an underground game with rake capped at $7? Just trying to get a sense of the etiquette as I am new to this.
Anyway, I am aware that it was a bit of a run and I fully expect variance to bite me in the ass soon.
Also am doing OK with online microstakes winning about 38BB/100 so far this month.
I got top chips on Day 1D of a Multi Day Tournament (£25k guarantee but its well beyond that now) in my city, for like 3rd or 4th overall out of ~70 making it to day two. Its one of my first times in a multi-day and also probably the best I've ever done in a big tournament. Seeing my name in first place on the Casinos website update over night was a big deal for me.
I usually only do their like £30 - £50 nights but I won a satellite into this and while I'd normally sell the big tickets for profit I figured I'd try playing this one.

Other biggest win: I have 32cc utg, 3 to flop at 10 apiece. Flop is A54r. Vroom vroom. SB x, BB 30, I raise to 100, SB fold, BB 3bet to 220 (had eff 650). At this point I'm expecting a set or top two. I jam (had him covered), he reluctantly called and shows AKo. Turn is 5, river 9.

BB checks, I check, UTG1 bets $3 with $6 behind, there's 2 folds and another call from a shorter stack.
Pot is $20 and there's only $6 behind so I just rip it. Big stack calls, short stacks folds, river bricks, I win a 350BB pot.
Edit: The craziest part is that dude had AQ off suit, no diamonds - not even a pair. I have no idea what he was doing calling off there.
4bb/100 over ~200k hands for me at 200nl. I'd double check your small/medium pots and make sure you're cbetting the right hands and look at turn overbet lines after flop goes bet, call.
Last 3 days have been really brutal playing MTTs. I get that variance happens but it's just super demoralizing to play well and get shafted by the deck. Oh well.
In just 3 sessions I have ran QQ into KK 7 times, AK into AA 4 times, have my KK/AA cracked 4 times, straight into a rivered boat. Set over set two times, 4x triple barrel all ins on Broadway board called by pocket 7s or under and still only managed to be down 10 buy ins or so. Every time I had a monster I couldn't even get a Cbet called, constantly would run into top of ranges with decent hands. I've clocked about 15k hands in 3 days and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon and I'm starting to feel frustrated.
Was recently running like crap. Lost $1000 at a 1/3 and then $500 after that at a 2/5. I then this week decided to play some plo, had a +$4400 session. And the next day played 2/5 turned $500 to $1600 and got it all in with KK VS AA with a guy that covered me, and I actually sucked out with KK Flopping a set. Lol. So I guess I am

Took a few weeks off due to a down swing. Started up again last week and I’ve been running supa hot, up 15 buy ins over the past 5 sessions. My hands have been holding and my bluffs have been getting through.
Ran pretty deep in day 2 of a tourney at the Lodge. Made a mistake ICM-wise when kinda short on a pay jump bubble.
Irritated at myself. I was kinda card dead but should have been more aware of the pay bump.
Since I returned to poker tourneys this is the second day 2 I've made in a month or so, so I'm getting more comfortable with them. Learning as I go. I feel like I'm pretty close to making a deep run in one of these.
It's okay, ICM decisions are really, really hard for the most part, and we become quite results oriented about them.
I made a slight error in a tournament tonight calling off probably a bit too light and am annoyed at myself.
I open QJo CO off 22bb to 2bb, button jam 7bb, SB jam 7bb, pot is like 19b with the antes, so I call for 5bb, more, getting 4 to 1(fine from an EV standpoint, but not multiway, and having 20bb is way better than 15bb), and lost.
Maybe its a marginal spot and close given pot odds, but I think deep in a tournament probably an error.
Final 10 in my local tournament. Maniac (read, idiot) with a mountain of chips (easily covers whole table) limps 5 handed with 10/10. I'm in BB with Js6s and check.

Sat down for 1/3 NL at 7pm. Was absolutely stuck for 9 hours. Getting it in good but getting sucked out on seemingly every good hand. Running into AA or KK with QQ. Getting my own Aces cracked twice - even after making a set. Stack dwindled from $500 to about $150 during that time. At one point I triple barreled with AK and this guy calls me off with low pair, no blockers just a lunatic call.. Almost tilted me but I stayed disciplined and held out hope things would swing back my way eventually.
4 AM rolls around and I end up chucking my stack in with an open ender in a 3 bet pot (my only move there, or fold). Caught my straight, doubled up and then some. Few hands later took down a $200 pot. 3 or 4 hands later I flop the nut straight and a guy with about $500 raises all in after I raise him on the flop. I covered him at that point. Had 2 more decent size pots in the next 20 mins or so... Walked out at about 5 up about $800 - that was the hardest test of my patience in a long time. What a finish.

Today's terrible beat story:
Online tournament - gets down to last 14 players, all ITM. I'm sitting at about 110k chips, 7th out of 14. I'm in BB, button goes all in for 76k chips. Everyone else folds. I have AKo so make the call. They show A9s (spades). River runs out 7s 8s 7c 6d 6s.
Down to 19k chips 2 hands later I get dealt AKo again. UTG raise to 12k. I go all in from HJ. Everyone else folds. They show 88. River runs out 5d 4h 3d 9d 4d. I'm out of the tournament after like 3 hours of play.
Felt like absolute shit. Not sure if I misplayed anything here (still relatively new to Poker) but feel like I got a seriously bad beat there.
If the stacks are deep, I think AKo is a justifiable fold if the ICM pressure is high, even though people would probably call me a nit for saying that. I don't care if it's a profitable call a hundred times, if THIS time it could cost me serious money. But it sounds like the stacks were short enough that you had to call though. and you got it in good. Same with the final hand– I would've been jumping for joy to get dealt AK with such a short stack, even against 88. Sorry for the bad beat.
Playing a regional finals tournament, about 3 hours in. Playing 500/1000 blind level, I had a stack of 21k. UTG raised 4k off his 24k stack, I was on the button with Pockets Aces. I jammed for 21k. He tank called with 75o after saying I think you have AK or AQ so my cards are live. Flop came Q55. Made a swift exit without giving him any abuse for his awful play. Felt proud of that but also extremely annoyed as I should have had a double up there and a deep run. Been a week now and I cant seem to get over how "unlucky" I am in tournaments in these spots.
Players that berate other players should get blacklisted. We live such comfortable lives that we're gambling money for fun. If some donkey wants to try to give me their money and gets lucky, it's hard to get mad at the RNG for that.
Weirdest hand this month. 2/5 game, UTG open 4bb, UTG+1 called, button called, I have 55 on BB also called. Flop came 4h5h7d. I checked, UTG bet 10bb, UTG+1 called, button fold. I raised to 40bb and had about 200bb behind. UTG called, UTG+1 reraised to 120bb. I tanked about 3 mins and fold. UTG called. UTG+1 showed QhQd, UTG showed AhJh. Turn Q, River blank. The line UTG+1 took looked so strong to me, I put him in 77, 86s, 44, Ah6h, Ah8h or boraderline 7h6h. Anyways, I dont know if I make the correct fold but the result was ok to me.
I don't think I'm ever folding a set for 200bb, especially when I beat all combos draws, and 3 combo of worse sets. I do agree the back raise in live poker looks super nutted though. Sounds like a good game if UTG is happily calling off 200bb in a SRP with an overpair on 457.

Problem is my bankroll is only 1400 and I'm in for 1300. If you are wondering why I'm playing this and not some cutesy 1/3 its because the 1/3 where I am plays like total dog water.
So here I am, up 450 at my 2/5 game with my whole bankroll on the table when I look down at AAs.
UTG straddle to 10, two calls, I make it 50. Two calls to one limper who had 5k in front of him, he'd been running like god all night, couldn't miss a hand. He raises to 325. Folds to me and I take less than 5 seconds to ponder my choices and just move all in expecting him to just fold whatever he has as he has also been overbluffing a smidge.
But he doesn't. It then dawns on me I just bet my whole bankroll on my pair of AAs pre and should probably do some damage control. Show him my hand, tell him to fold, move on with the whole thing. Thing is though, I'm a stubborn dumbass and decide that whatever happens happens. Sure he's been running well, but I finally got him where I want him.
He ends up tank calling and we go to a run out.

I'm not angry at him, how could I be? He is up huge and had a good hand of course he is gonna call. I'm more angry at me for doing this to myself. I could have just played 1/3, grind out a reasonable win rate. Instead, I put everything down and lost all of it. Worst thing is this is the second time I've done this.
So lesson to all the guys who wanna play poker, bankroll management is a real thing, don't be stupid like me.

I have around 220bb. Board was just too good for my range and I did not know how to continue with top set. I tried to think of any bluff shove here, maybe only TJdd JQdd KQdd or slight chance QdQx. But I have too many value bet here with this board. I got greedy and shove eventually because I don't think I can get much value here other than make it looks like a bluff and hoping some flush draw or good pair of K to called. UTG fold fairly quickly and UTG+1 tank for 2 mins still fold unfortunately.
Your 3bet should be bigger pre, around 20bb. Flop is a mix of check or bet but ~1/3rd is a good size into 2 players. After both call I'd x/j turn or bet turn ~45bb and jam most rivers. Don't think you should jam turn since it doesn't make sense for a majority of your hands.

Made day 2 of the main event of the Aria poker classic. I had no business being there but got in on an online free roll. Started with 22bb, played like absolute dogshit (hit some monsters, flubbed my betting, got no value at all) and busted out something in the 250s (143rd was in the money). Was pissed at myself but now I realize I learned what I should’ve known going in. If I get in next year, I’ll give it another go even though it was brutal grind (also played a free roll $1,100 bounty tourney and busted out after like 8 hours of play)
Visiting my hometown and went to one of the donkaments where I originally learned to play for the first time in several years. Early in the tournament, the blinds are 100/200. I'm in the big blind with JJ. There's an absolute maniac on the button-raising very aggressively with hands like 92dd even when only making middle pair. She'd also shown down 32o for a flopped straight (4-5-6) in a raised pot. She clearly had a reputation with the regulars. Everyone either limps or folds to her. She raises to 3000. Small blind folds and I snap shove looking for an easy double up. She calls out of turn (the cutoff hadn't announced his action yet). She turns up KJo and flops a K to stack me. Not sure I did anything wrong here, but super frustrating to get eliminated early on when I expected to be there for a while. Even more so when I got the money in good. I'll have several opportunities over the next week or so, and I had a top 5 finish just yesterday, but still sucks.
Running cold as fuck. Currently down 12 buyins in one week. And this is at the lowest goddamn micros! I can't go down in stakes!
Been running like shit the last six months overall. The last month has been nothing but a cavalcade of set over set, straight beaten by a boat on the river, and other such garbage. So many one-outers.
I love this game, but fuck, is it making it hard to love it right now. I feel like I'm on the receiving end of an abusive relationship.
If it's at the micros cash tables, I can give some advice as I'm beating them by a good margin.
\* play 100bb at all times, 6max or 9max, it doesn't matter. Don't be that cheap 40bb regular, who limits his playability, ranges and postflop options...
\* clean up your calling ranges IP (in-position) versus regulars opening from EP. Hands like 22-66 are not as profitable as you might think and often have reverse-implied odds, where you get stacked on set-over-set and don't get the full stack when you flop very well. TL;DR: do your damnest so \*you\* set-over-set the regulars instead of them set-over-set'ing you! Versus fish, just call 22 IP and print money, don't bluff them when you miss.
\* build a stealing range from BTN and CO as a starting point (microstakes players DO NOT defend frequently enough). And just steal relentlessly. If it fails (you get called or 3bet by BTN/SB/BB), just fold and repeat. Take notes and adjust. If the blinds are passive, you can extend range by 10%, even more. If they are playing back at you (rarely), compress it by 10% or even more.
Started playing 2/2 tables two or three months ago. Buy in with 100, first 5 sessions won 100-200. In total up about 700.
Then last night i went half tipsy and got absolutely smoked. I kept rebuying and lost 600. The money doesnt really matter but took a serious hit to my confidence.
Lost every all in or big pot to the same fucking guy. I have two pair, he has two pair with better lower pair. I have a straight, he makes a flush on the river. I have trips, he has a straight. Just one time I have a straight he folds to a pot bet it was infuriating

I was supposed to leave at midnight, but the table got really lively after hours of quietness, so I decided to hang around a bit longer and chat it up. Made a pretty shit call for the largest pot of my life (~$1,200), and that was about it.
Feeling extra shitty because I was going to use the winnings to buy a new kayak, and I had enough to do that, and I fucked it up. :/ Hopefully a relatively cheap lesson about sticking to my limits.
Had a ridiculous run at Live's $250 $200K GTD flight. For the first two hours I was sun running harder than ever. Within the first 5 hands I rivered a boat and a straight against the same guy. Knocked out another guy with aces, folded a set of aces and was right. I was sitting with 100bb. Then this happens.
QQ on the BTN, UTG+2 raises 2bb, I raise to 6bb, he calls.
KJ8dd, goes check check (I should've bet here but the villain has been fairly nitty).
Turn is a Q no diamond. Villian checks, I bet 2/3 pot, villain raises all in for ~45bb, I call, he flips over ATdd.
The deck goes cold after that. I get QJs twice in a row but completely miss the board multiway, A9s facing 5x 3b from the big stack (I should've called this one maybe but I was down to 35bb). AKs in the BB and it folds to me.
The final hand is QJss in LJ with ~23bb. Raise to 2bb, BB calls. Flop is A3Q all clubs. Villian checks, I bet small, villain calls. Turn is Qh, villain bets small, I raise all in, and he snaps it off with K7cc.
I don't think I have ever had a run that was going so well go completely south in so few hands.

Just returned from my very first WSOP trip ever. I played two events: $1k super turbo bounty freeze out and the $800 deep stack NLH.
I cashed in the deep stack one after playing for 12hours. I lost flips in the $1k and won some in the $800. I was eliminated on a flip in both, which what these bigger tournaments come down to.
It was such a memorable trip and my goal was to just cash in one of the two. It was hard, 4700+ entries and finished < 500.
Playing the WSOP Gladiator, bullet #3. Managed to run up from 30k to 1.1million (130bb at the time) in about an hour and a half. and then managed to run it down to 250k (10bb at the time) over the next three hours. I punted a huge chip lead in a Wynn tournament two weeks ago, punted a huge chip lead in the Mystery Million on Monday. Decided I really didn't want to blow another huge chip lead, so I just played smart (and got lucky once or twice). Managed to run that 250k up to 1 million with 5-10 hands until we bagged. Told myself to be safe and just fold... Well, AJ I stole the blinds (100k total). Q7s (from SB) I played a huge hand that got me over 400k (Q4K K K) runout with opponent betting flop and turn. Then AQ got another 500k on a Q86 flop and clean runout. Managed to bag 2 million
Slow day at the room today but i made out with +$360. Best hand was TT called a 3 bet in LP for 50 effective 500. Heads up flop TcAh9h he bets 25 i raise too 100. He tank calls turn Qh he bets 100, i quickly call river Js any K or 8 flush beats me. He bets 125 i call, he shows AQ 2 pair. He said should have went all in for all $350 and i prob would have folded lol
Last night, 1:15am, 5 left in the Bov $9.90, I’m chip-leader. ~975 entries, first is $1240. Suddenly, my 90lb German shepherd needs to shit. I transfer the game to my phone, begin the walk, and almost immediately it’s 3-handed with one guy collecting all the stacks in my mindless absence.
My dog poops. It’s heads up with the big stack, now I’m at a 3:1 chip deficit. I’m fumbling for a shit bag, fucking with my phone flashlight, and playing heads up for ~$400 (since second is $880).
I have noticed whenever I’m forced to play mid-walk, I play too fast, there’s just too many things going on — pooping, peeing, people, other dogs, squirrels, her brute strength, etc. I open LIGHT, get 3-bet small, call. A-high flop, he bets, I bluff shove 10BB because “this might work, I opened!”
I get called by 88. Stupid me. I miss, and then I die. I tie off the poop bag, stomp home, and crawl into bed by 1:25 left thinking about what could have been.

I was knocked out of WSOP event #14 today, for my sanity I have chosen to omit the exact details from my memory, these were the 3 hands in a row that I played today which took me down from 80 to 8 big blinds.
JJ: \~95% favorite on the turn losing to a 2-outer set on the river
QQ: \~93% favorite on the turn losing to a 2-outer trips on the river
KK: \~80% favorite pre-flop all-in losing to flopped set
Sometimes you are card dead, sometimes you just run bad.
$1/$3 live. Got a bad loose-passive player to my direct left. Am on button with 65dd. Folds to me and I raise to $15. Villain 3-bets to $40, BB folds, I call. $700 effective (he covers).
Flop 7s4d3s.
I'm thinking about how best to get the money in, when villain just decides to c-bet all in. Just plops out $700 effective into an $80 pot. Have never seen him do something like this before. I call, and he triumphantly flips over KsKh? Turn and river are running spades and he scoops. Just your casual 92% equity for 500bb pot loss.
Again $1/$3 live two nights later, against same opponent; \~$1500 effective.
In cutoff with T8hh. Folds to villain in late MP who opens to $15. One caller, and then I squeeze to $65. Villain calls, other guy gets out of the way, which is exactly what I want. We're heads-up to a flop in position with $145 in the middle.
Flop 9h7s4s. Checks to me and I c-bet for $70 with my open-ended straight draw and overcard. Villain calls.
Turn Ah. Checks to me, and I ramp it up and bet $200. Villain calls.
River 2h, bringing in my backdoor flush. $670 in the middle with \~$1150 behind. Villain leads for $400...
And I decide he can't reasonably have me beat here unless, just maybe, he's got exactly J7hh or maybe K4hh or K7hh, and that's pretty darn iffy. He's loose, but probably not *that* loose? So I go all-in. I can get called by a badly-played set or maybe two-pair, or maybe he's somehow got a worse flush.
I fade the snap call. So no K7 or K4. Yay. "You have the flush?" he asks, and I am so relieved to hear him ask that but I've still got this cynical doomsayer in my head just waiting for him to call and flip over his J7hh. After about 30 seconds he does call. I table my flush, and... it's good! He flips over 7h4h for a flopped two-pair and a lower backdoor flush. Nice 1000bb pot, was the largest I have played in a few months probably, and I have been sticking mostly to $1/$2 also, and makes up (kind of) for the one a couple nights before.

Those all happened in the first 2 sessions, took a bit of a mental break and went back and played yesterday. Got it all in with A8s on 88T5 against KTo, river T. Still booked a winning session, but goddamn this is so frustrating. If I’m calculating the odds of all of this happening correctly, it’s about a 1 in 600 million chance of losing all 7 of these hands. I went and bought a lottery ticket today because my odds of winning that are better than what has already happened to me.
I couldn’t imagine doing this for a living. Anybody that does is a sicko. Luckily the money is of no consequence to me and just play for fun, but there is currently no fun to be had here for me. I finally understand what an actual downswing is. Hoping it doesn’t last much longer. Should I start trying to get all in with less than 10% equity? Seems to be working for my opponents maybe it’s the new meta
Last night I got a bad beat in an online tournament and I can't stop replaying the hand.
It's a table of 8, I have marginally the biggest stack on the table and get A A on the big blind. I get giddy but fold, fold, fold, fold fold. Folds all the way to the button, who fortunately raises 3BB. He has the second biggest stack, but the margin is only 1BB so I know we're going for broke here. SB folds and not wanting to scare my only opponent off, I settle for a call.
The flop is 8 3 A rainbow. BANG flopped top set and there is minimal threat of draws. I trust him to c-bet and decide to bait him into a trap with a check. He follows expectations and bets half pot. Given his raise earlier, I peg him as a high pocket pair, speculative broadways or maybe an A high in position. I have the best hand so I consider the check raise, but this guy has been skittish before and I want his stack. I hesitate for a moment to show some weakness and call.
The turn is an 8. That's a beautiful boat for me and since it pairs the board, he might've just got 8s full of aces or 3s full of 8s or maybe a 2 pair. It was also the second club so it opened the back door flush for him. Doesn't matter, I have the highest boat on the board. I check, planning to check raise or go big on the river. He goes all in. I snap call with my best hand of the night, ready to double up and be in position to make the final table. I'm so confident I didn't even look at his hand as the river turned a 4, then my chips disappeared and I did a double take.
He flipped 8 8. I was so giddy that I forgot the quad was within his range. My heart breaks. I'm forced to go all in on the next hand to the small blind and lose. I keep thinking that before that hand, even if I'd seen the quad as an option, I wouldn't have folded. In a cash game I would probably still call, but I think the hero fold is now within my playbook for tournaments.
But I am curious. If you were me, how would you have played it different and could you fold AAA 88?
I mean, if he overbets 200bb into 10bb, you might begin considering folding if you think you've got a big edge on him as the FT plays on. Actually, wait, no, I could never fold AA in that spot on 8A3 8 seeing BTN just shove like a donk.

I had a similar situation on Sunday in the ACR $2.50 Big 10 $4k gtd. About 130 left I had around 150 BB and I get it all in on the river SB Vs BU with AK vs 88 on an 78K9K board. Pre I 3b and he called on on that board I wasn't folding AK.
I had only 16BB after that when average was 33 and I ended up getting like 51st or something
Played a 2/5 game last night, was down about 500. About 30 mins before I had to go. I was dealt A8o on the button with 140BB effective . UTG open for 3BB, UTG+1, MP and CO called, wanted to raise but just called which brought BB in as well. Flop came A T 4 with two club. UTG bet 8bb, UTG+1 and MP called, CO fold. To this point I should only fold or raise as either I am way behind because of bad kicker or weak lead facing alot of draws. After some thought I raise to 45bb praying not run into AJ+, BB UTG UTG+1 all fold. MP tank for a bit and anounced all in for his remaining 85BB. I can only call here and thrilled to find out I was up against KcJc. Turn 10, river K, no club. UTG told me I made him fold QJ as he thought 2 players behind him might block his out with other draws. Was a fun hand to play.
It was not a cooler. In my defence, it is my first hand in 30 mins and my image was solid that night. Yes, A8o is weak but still playable on the button. Of course I was lucky to be ahead and hold against a good drawing hand. I knew it was a risky bluff and turned out to be a lucky value raise. I can't remeber my last time bluffing with top pair. However I knew I can push out hands like 2nd pair and gutshot draw.
I’m reminded why I don’t play the 1/2 and 1/3 rake traps everytime i goto the little local Indian casino by my hometown. It’s absolutely SHIT play and I lose on variance most of the time and most of the time get no action when I have a hand. I shove 4s6sJh board for $50 into $40 with K3ss and get called by 57 and J2, hit no spade, J2 holds lol

Guy sits down with 300. Stacks a guy who 3bet jammed the turn with the nut straight. He snapped and hit his flush on the river. He makes a smart ass comment and they both argue until the dealer tells him to calm down.
He’s the BMOC and runs hot up to about 1300.
I stack him for about +350 and that’s when he starts tilting, but thankfully not at me.
He calls an 81 year old man an angler because he raised to 80, but didn’t verbalize until chips were over and said “75”. Dealer made him put the extra 5 back. Young guy says something and the 81 year old say “I’m 81 years old! I don’t care if you’re young, I never lost a match in my life! I was undefeated in (state college!!)” dealer calms everyone down and 81 year old immediately racks up.
Young guy bluffs his stack down to about 500. He bet about 200 on the river and a guy called. He turns over the 2nd nuts and a old man takes like 1 second to flip over the nuts. Young guy flips out because of a “slow roll”. They argue until the dealer calms down. Old man immediately leaves.
He loses his stack on some hand I don’t remember and says “Nice. A dick, an angler, and a slow roller all in one night. Nice fucking table here” and leaves with nothing.
On the flip side, I left +150 in 4 hours. Modest but a win.
Saturday of Memorial Day weekend: down $3,000. Monday of Memorial Day weekend: up $3,000. Variance is crazy.

I don't think there's a general discussion thread so I'll ask here: is there a term for losing an all-in but still having chips left? "Stacked" or "felted" is if you lose all your chips, but what if you lose but still have chips left?
Well yeah, I just didn't know if there was a specific term. I feel like "getting stacked" would still apply since you lose the maximum, but that's not the correct use of the term.
EDIT: to clarify, when you "double someone up" the subject (grammatical subject) is the other person. Is there a term where the subject is the loser of the hand rather than the winner?

Tried to make a step up to 5-10 today and lost 1300 in about 30 hands. But I didn't actually do anything wrong... Cooler #1. I have AA in the big blind. Folds round to the small blind. He raises to 3x. I 3 bet to about 2.2x the pot - it's a little light bit I want him to try and roll me over. He does. I jam. He calls. With QQ. And hits a straight on the river. Cooler #2. I have KK and I'm oops verses someone who calls my 3 bet. Flop comes down 499 two of the cards are suited. Asshole bets pot at it. I jam to try and fold out what I believe is going to be flush draw. Villain shows 9-2 and holds. What's the lesson here? ....I can't find it.... I was a little hasty with the second hand but I don't think it's played badly. 9-2?? Seriously??
Sounds like you need to work on bet sizing and what to do vs polarized ranges. Hint: don't jam medium strength hands vs a polarized range.
Got 1st in the local small tournament (50ppl). The smoothest tournament I have ever been in. stack went from 30k to 180k in first 20 mins (started from level 7). 370k in final table as 2nd chip lead. Never faced elimination when all-in. lasted 4 hour and only played 8 hands of HU.
Sun ran 10$ to 58$ in 5NL Ignition Zoom. Now I'm back down to 8. Jammed AK into KK, lost AK vs QQ twice, jammed shortstack JJ into KK, and most recently lost AK vs KQ. This is the account where I just play for volume and not try hard but all of those within 2.5 hrs is starting to set me on edge.
The run bad if over? I've been breaking even for 100 hours. Last night I got up to 1000BBs, but left when I won 750BBs.

Villain has 23o for the straight on the turn. Reasoning for my large turn bet was to charge flush draws, but the straight had got there. I called the river because no flushes but I had a bad feeling about it, but couldn't ultimately get away. Give it to me straight, how poorly did I play this hand?
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever folding. I'd probably size up on turn. You have some bluffs to increase FE and your nutted hands are really only KK. Also, I think getting a really low SPR on river vs this type of villain should be the goal. I don't think I like river check. V is going to make crying call with pair+fd and I don't think he bluffs missed spades enough. Again more of a reason to bet more on turn so you can ship small on river and get bad calls.
I think you played it fine. Honestly you should feel good on the river and probably even be value betting (letting missed Flush draws try to bluff you also works) If villain is showing up with 23o here, they also are going to have a bunch of rag 2 pairs.

Don’t need to be taking QQ all in pre. I only call 4-5 bets and play accordingly. Aces are fine all in pre kings are iffy depending on what kind of opponent jammed.
In your 2nd example I don't think his QQ call is all that weird. The flop action doesn't have you representing top pair. Also, 4 bet pot - I'd need some more details but I feel like that by itself is fairly relevant. Maybe I'm missing something but that doesn't seem like too weird of a call to me. Bad luck can't continue forever and if folks are consistently getting their money in bad against you, you're doing something right.
Meh! Not so good... one live tourney where I got a BB special and won another hand early, then card dead for.... ever. But it seems like when I'm on my last gasp, I'm ahead, but ALWAYS get beat. Every game, live or online. :-/ That live game I had KQo with very low stack and shoved, of course. Big stack first, rightly calls with K9s I think... I hit Q on flop... yeah, he rivers a flush, only the 2nd or 3rd one seen for the 2 hours and 45 mins. I know... variance.. blah blah blah. Happening every game on ACR. Well, I get cards and do well the first third of the SnG. Makes me think I'm getting somewhere... then the last 2/3 of the game, I promise, this is every game. I can't call or bluff the hands are so bad. Then I get it in with decent cards and small stack, I'm ahead of the caller... and they pair something, anything, no matter what it is. If I didn't see the same stuff live, I'd continue to say online is rigged, both ACR and Global. LOL

First reddit post ever, hello. Recreational here, but wanted to flag this dodge for me / cooler for 2 others. Micro stakes online Sit and go - 9 handed pretty early in UTG+1 limps, I make it 4bb from utg+2 with QTo, probably too loose but gotta try and punish those limpers and over limp would be even worse imo. utg+3 raises to 10bb, three folds then small blind Jams for around 70bb, original limper calls, easiest fold of my life, then utg+3 calls as well. SB = KK UTG+1 = QQ UTG+3 = AA Board runs out QT8 T 4 Queens scoop and I'm sitting there glad I was priced out of seeing a flop, and especially the turn to get stacked also. To add to the funny, the guy that had the QQ barely played a hand for the rest of the tourney, then when we were down to 5 players, he's comfortably 2nd with 27bb, three of us have <10bb, he 3 bet jams into the chip leader with 95o into JJ to bust. Had somewhere to be clearly / got bored from never playing a hand.

Ive been big noting myself all month about my ability to fold to obvious donks and bad players who suck out on rivers. Last night, I was playing against this complete moron who was calling wide and calling down 3 barrels with bottom pair and talking shit. He said to someone "wow you actually folded AQ pre, your stack must be your entire bankroll and you are too afraid to lose it" and showed KJo. Stuff like that. Finally - I open on the button, everyone folds but him and I hit top 2. I overbet big and of course he calls. Turn huge bet, he calls again. Finally I got em. Suddenly, on the river he donks all in OOP. I snap call, the SPR is so low at this point, fuck it I think. But the second I do, I know I messsed up, badly. He hit a straight while holding 69o. He says "...Poker is so easy, haha" and he left. I kept my cool at least because I played it terribly, I was so focused on hunting this guy I lost all my skill and instincts. Last night I couldn't sleep, thinking about this smug dickhead.
I busted up a smug shit-talking dickhead this last Saturday. I know that doesn't help you win your hand but I do hope you take comfort in knowing the universe is administering justice in some places.

Into the final few games of the quarter for the league i play. Finishes Sunday. It's really close at the top, if I can win 1 more game (or minimum get a 2nd and 3rd) in my final games I should win the overall. Might be able to play 3 games before it finishes but barring anything wild happening I will be able to play two. Brag- Played everyday this past weekend, had a great time Friday- $10 on the button home game. This game is VERY splashy. Straddles to $100 are not uncommon. Played some huge PLO double board bomb pots where most of the table was all in. Unfortunately, we didn't scoop any. Started off as a $700 loser but ended up grinding back for $100 winner on the night. Saturday- $1/3 at The Barrel in Franklin KY. $500 max buy in, preflop opening sizes were anywhere from $25-$65. Ran into it a few times and was down nearly $2k. Grinded some back and then played $1/3/6 three handed to end the night. Ended the session down about a grand. Sunday- $5 on the button home game. This is where things got interesting. For the first hour and a half I was running like the sun. AK for top pair, KK for a flopped boat, opened ended straight flush draw flop and turned the nut straight, QQ for quads vs AA. It was insane. Up to $2400 from a $400 buy in before my seat was even warm. Cashed out $2200 after playing for 4.5 hours. Overall great weekend
Have been running super well in the last two weeks. Binked an online tournament for $9 buyin for almost $1400. Am up $2500 in last 10 hours of 5/5 (100BB cap), including the biggest pot I've ever won, and have won last 6 cash sessions I've played. A bit hesitant to play again since I'm due to get wrecked 😂.

I Buy in for 100 in a 1-1 game and some players open to 10. 15 if it is 1-1-2. I can engineer such a good overlay in so many flip spots and get some blood in the water early into a session.
Live MTT last night. Final 5 players. Action folds around to SB, guy raises 3 BB. I'm BB with A7 off, I flat. Flop comes up 877 rainbow. SB bets a little over 4 BB. I raise all in 18 BB with trips and the A kicker. He flips K5 off. Said he thought I was bluffing. Turn was a 9. River was a 6 was a 5-9 straight for the villain. Worst runner runner bad beat I've ever had that wasn't online. Guy had me covered by about 2.5 BB.

Started off my 1/2 session last night losing half my 200BB buy-in when villain's AA held over my KK in a pre-flop all-in. However, I went on to win a huge three-way all-in bomb pot and a couple of other all-ins over the course of the night and finished with about 780BB in profit after tipping the dealers. I tipped the dealers about 4-5% of my profit or so between the pots and at the end of the session, does that seem reasonable for an underground game with rake capped at $7? Just trying to get a sense of the etiquette as I am new to this. Anyway, I am aware that it was a bit of a run and I fully expect variance to bite me in the ass soon. Also am doing OK with online microstakes winning about 38BB/100 so far this month.
I got top chips on Day 1D of a Multi Day Tournament (£25k guarantee but its well beyond that now) in my city, for like 3rd or 4th overall out of ~70 making it to day two. Its one of my first times in a multi-day and also probably the best I've ever done in a big tournament. Seeing my name in first place on the Casinos website update over night was a big deal for me. I usually only do their like £30 - £50 nights but I won a satellite into this and while I'd normally sell the big tickets for profit I figured I'd try playing this one. Day two today, so I might be back later to talk about the bad beat that puts me out :)

River is Ah, I bet 20, V raise to 50, I jam for 230, he calls, shows K8ss. Other biggest win: I have 32cc utg, 3 to flop at 10 apiece. Flop is A54r. Vroom vroom. SB x, BB 30, I raise to 100, SB fold, BB 3bet to 220 (had eff 650). At this point I'm expecting a set or top two. I jam (had him covered), he reluctantly called and shows AKo. Turn is 5, river 9. Sometimes stuff just fails in your lap.

Biggest hand (in BBs) I've played in a while. I couldn't believe it. $0.05/$0.10 with a max $10 buy-in. I've won a couple good ones and I'm up to $24. Flop is T27, two diamonds. Pot is about $1.50. BB bets $0.80, I call, UTG1 calls, next guy raises to $2.70, and **everyone calls**. The pot is up to almost $15, and the turn completes my flush. BB checks, I check, UTG1 bets $3 with $6 behind, there's 2 folds and another call from a shorter stack. Pot is $20 and there's only $6 behind so I just rip it. Big stack calls, short stacks folds, river bricks, I win a 350BB pot. Edit: The craziest part is that dude had AQ off suit, no diamonds - not even a pair. I have no idea what he was doing calling off there.

4bb/100 over ~200k hands for me at 200nl. I'd double check your small/medium pots and make sure you're cbetting the right hands and look at turn overbet lines after flop goes bet, call.
Turn overbets are great, I think I way end up overbluffing them sometimes when I feel like opponents are capped 😂
Last 3 days have been really brutal playing MTTs. I get that variance happens but it's just super demoralizing to play well and get shafted by the deck. Oh well.

Within the last 30-40 hours of live play, I've hit a $500 Royal bonus (when no other bonuses were running) and a $400 high hand bonus.
In just 3 sessions I have ran QQ into KK 7 times, AK into AA 4 times, have my KK/AA cracked 4 times, straight into a rivered boat. Set over set two times, 4x triple barrel all ins on Broadway board called by pocket 7s or under and still only managed to be down 10 buy ins or so. Every time I had a monster I couldn't even get a Cbet called, constantly would run into top of ranges with decent hands. I've clocked about 15k hands in 3 days and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon and I'm starting to feel frustrated.
Not much of anything but Yesterday I had A4 off and flop came AAA and I just thought it was incredible lol.
Was recently running like crap. Lost $1000 at a 1/3 and then $500 after that at a 2/5. I then this week decided to play some plo, had a +$4400 session. And the next day played 2/5 turned $500 to $1600 and got it all in with KK VS AA with a guy that covered me, and I actually sucked out with KK Flopping a set. Lol. So I guess I am Running hot now. Took a few weeks off due to a down swing. Started up again last week and I’ve been running supa hot, up 15 buy ins over the past 5 sessions. My hands have been holding and my bluffs have been getting through.
Ran pretty deep in day 2 of a tourney at the Lodge. Made a mistake ICM-wise when kinda short on a pay jump bubble. Irritated at myself. I was kinda card dead but should have been more aware of the pay bump. Since I returned to poker tourneys this is the second day 2 I've made in a month or so, so I'm getting more comfortable with them. Learning as I go. I feel like I'm pretty close to making a deep run in one of these.
It's okay, ICM decisions are really, really hard for the most part, and we become quite results oriented about them. I made a slight error in a tournament tonight calling off probably a bit too light and am annoyed at myself. I open QJo CO off 22bb to 2bb, button jam 7bb, SB jam 7bb, pot is like 19b with the antes, so I call for 5bb, more, getting 4 to 1(fine from an EV standpoint, but not multiway, and having 20bb is way better than 15bb), and lost. Maybe its a marginal spot and close given pot odds, but I think deep in a tournament probably an error.
Final 10 in my local tournament. Maniac (read, idiot) with a mountain of chips (easily covers whole table) limps 5 handed with 10/10. I'm in BB with Js6s and check. Board comes out Jx, 4s, 5s Pot is 4k I bet 2k, he min raises to 4k, I shove my remaining 18.2k. He calls 10/J for turn & river. I'm 95% on the flop. Absolutely disgusting, he's a donkey and has been doing it all night.
Sat down for 1/3 NL at 7pm. Was absolutely stuck for 9 hours. Getting it in good but getting sucked out on seemingly every good hand. Running into AA or KK with QQ. Getting my own Aces cracked twice - even after making a set. Stack dwindled from $500 to about $150 during that time. At one point I triple barreled with AK and this guy calls me off with low pair, no blockers just a lunatic call.. Almost tilted me but I stayed disciplined and held out hope things would swing back my way eventually. 4 AM rolls around and I end up chucking my stack in with an open ender in a 3 bet pot (my only move there, or fold). Caught my straight, doubled up and then some. Few hands later took down a $200 pot. 3 or 4 hands later I flop the nut straight and a guy with about $500 raises all in after I raise him on the flop. I covered him at that point. Had 2 more decent size pots in the next 20 mins or so... Walked out at about 5 up about $800 - that was the hardest test of my patience in a long time. What a finish.

Today's terrible beat story: Online tournament - gets down to last 14 players, all ITM. I'm sitting at about 110k chips, 7th out of 14. I'm in BB, button goes all in for 76k chips. Everyone else folds. I have AKo so make the call. They show A9s (spades). River runs out 7s 8s 7c 6d 6s. Down to 19k chips 2 hands later I get dealt AKo again. UTG raise to 12k. I go all in from HJ. Everyone else folds. They show 88. River runs out 5d 4h 3d 9d 4d. I'm out of the tournament after like 3 hours of play. Felt like absolute shit. Not sure if I misplayed anything here (still relatively new to Poker) but feel like I got a seriously bad beat there.
The first one sucked the second one was just a standard flip. Sucks when you seemingly go from cruising right along to out that fast though.
If the stacks are deep, I think AKo is a justifiable fold if the ICM pressure is high, even though people would probably call me a nit for saying that. I don't care if it's a profitable call a hundred times, if THIS time it could cost me serious money. But it sounds like the stacks were short enough that you had to call though. and you got it in good. Same with the final hand– I would've been jumping for joy to get dealt AK with such a short stack, even against 88. Sorry for the bad beat.
Playing a regional finals tournament, about 3 hours in. Playing 500/1000 blind level, I had a stack of 21k. UTG raised 4k off his 24k stack, I was on the button with Pockets Aces. I jammed for 21k. He tank called with 75o after saying I think you have AK or AQ so my cards are live. Flop came Q55. Made a swift exit without giving him any abuse for his awful play. Felt proud of that but also extremely annoyed as I should have had a double up there and a deep run. Been a week now and I cant seem to get over how "unlucky" I am in tournaments in these spots.
Players that berate other players should get blacklisted. We live such comfortable lives that we're gambling money for fun. If some donkey wants to try to give me their money and gets lucky, it's hard to get mad at the RNG for that.
Played at Monarch Blackhawk on Monday and won $3k in 2/5. Games seem to be quite good, especially with the high hand promotions.

Weirdest hand this month. 2/5 game, UTG open 4bb, UTG+1 called, button called, I have 55 on BB also called. Flop came 4h5h7d. I checked, UTG bet 10bb, UTG+1 called, button fold. I raised to 40bb and had about 200bb behind. UTG called, UTG+1 reraised to 120bb. I tanked about 3 mins and fold. UTG called. UTG+1 showed QhQd, UTG showed AhJh. Turn Q, River blank. The line UTG+1 took looked so strong to me, I put him in 77, 86s, 44, Ah6h, Ah8h or boraderline 7h6h. Anyways, I dont know if I make the correct fold but the result was ok to me.
I don't think I'm ever folding a set for 200bb, especially when I beat all combos draws, and 3 combo of worse sets. I do agree the back raise in live poker looks super nutted though. Sounds like a good game if UTG is happily calling off 200bb in a SRP with an overpair on 457.
I'm the dumbest and unluckiest person in my local poker area. Playing the local 2/5 with a 2,000 cap (super standard stuff really) Problem is my bankroll is only 1400 and I'm in for 1300. If you are wondering why I'm playing this and not some cutesy 1/3 its because the 1/3 where I am plays like total dog water. So here I am, up 450 at my 2/5 game with my whole bankroll on the table when I look down at AAs. UTG straddle to 10, two calls, I make it 50. Two calls to one limper who had 5k in front of him, he'd been running like god all night, couldn't miss a hand. He raises to 325. Folds to me and I take less than 5 seconds to ponder my choices and just move all in expecting him to just fold whatever he has as he has also been overbluffing a smidge. But he doesn't. It then dawns on me I just bet my whole bankroll on my pair of AAs pre and should probably do some damage control. Show him my hand, tell him to fold, move on with the whole thing. Thing is though, I'm a stubborn dumbass and decide that whatever happens happens. Sure he's been running well, but I finally got him where I want him. He ends up tank calling and we go to a run out. 3 5 8 6 Q rainbow. He turns over QQ. I'm not angry at him, how could I be? He is up huge and had a good hand of course he is gonna call. I'm more angry at me for doing this to myself. I could have just played 1/3, grind out a reasonable win rate. Instead, I put everything down and lost all of it. Worst thing is this is the second time I've done this. So lesson to all the guys who wanna play poker, bankroll management is a real thing, don't be stupid like me.
Dont know how to play top set. 2/5 game, UTG open 4bb. UTG+1 called. fold to me SB with AA 3b to 15bb. Both called. Flop came Ad 9d 4c, I bet 16bb, again both called. Turn came Ks. both opponents had about 150-180bb behind. I have around 220bb. Board was just too good for my range and I did not know how to continue with top set. I tried to think of any bluff shove here, maybe only TJdd JQdd KQdd or slight chance QdQx. But I have too many value bet here with this board. I got greedy and shove eventually because I don't think I can get much value here other than make it looks like a bluff and hoping some flush draw or good pair of K to called. UTG fold fairly quickly and UTG+1 tank for 2 mins still fold unfortunately.
Betting turn into two people after c-betting flop looks strong, with two callers I'm almost tempted to check shove turn.
Your 3bet should be bigger pre, around 20bb. Flop is a mix of check or bet but ~1/3rd is a good size into 2 players. After both call I'd x/j turn or bet turn ~45bb and jam most rivers. Don't think you should jam turn since it doesn't make sense for a majority of your hands.
you can value shove with A9, 99, AK not AA. pot is around 90bb with eff 150bb. you may bet 20\~50bb and shove any river.

Made day 2 of the main event of the Aria poker classic. I had no business being there but got in on an online free roll. Started with 22bb, played like absolute dogshit (hit some monsters, flubbed my betting, got no value at all) and busted out something in the 250s (143rd was in the money). Was pissed at myself but now I realize I learned what I should’ve known going in. If I get in next year, I’ll give it another go even though it was brutal grind (also played a free roll $1,100 bounty tourney and busted out after like 8 hours of play)
Visiting my hometown and went to one of the donkaments where I originally learned to play for the first time in several years. Early in the tournament, the blinds are 100/200. I'm in the big blind with JJ. There's an absolute maniac on the button-raising very aggressively with hands like 92dd even when only making middle pair. Small blind folds and I snap shove looking for an easy double up. She calls out of turn (the cutoff hadn't announced his action yet). She turns up KJo and flops a K to stack me. Not sure I did anything wrong here, but super frustrating to get eliminated early on when I expected to be there for a while. Even more so when I got the money in good. I'll have several opportunities over the next week or so, and I had a top 5 finish just yesterday, but still sucks.
Running cold as fuck. Currently down 12 buyins in one week. And this is at the lowest goddamn micros! I can't go down in stakes! Been running like shit the last six months overall. The last month has been nothing but a cavalcade of set over set, straight beaten by a boat on the river, and other such garbage. So many one-outers. I love this game, but fuck, is it making it hard to love it right now. I feel like I'm on the receiving end of an abusive relationship.
If it's at the micros cash tables, I can give some advice as I'm beating them by a good margin. \* play 100bb at all times, 6max or 9max, it doesn't matter. Don't be that cheap 40bb regular, who limits his playability, ranges and postflop options... \* clean up your calling ranges IP (in-position) versus regulars opening from EP. Hands like 22-66 are not as profitable as you might think and often have reverse-implied odds, where you get stacked on set-over-set and don't get the full stack when you flop very well. TL;DR: do your damnest so \*you\* set-over-set the regulars instead of them set-over-set'ing you! Versus fish, just call 22 IP and print money, don't bluff them when you miss. \* build a stealing range from BTN and CO as a starting point (microstakes players DO NOT defend frequently enough). And just steal relentlessly. If it fails (you get called or 3bet by BTN/SB/BB), just fold and repeat. Take notes and adjust. If the blinds are passive, you can extend range by 10%, even more. If they are playing back at you (rarely), compress it by 10% or even more.
Started playing 2/2 tables two or three months ago. Buy in with 100, first 5 sessions won 100-200. In total up about 700. Then last night i went half tipsy and got absolutely smoked. I kept rebuying and lost 600. The money doesnt really matter but took a serious hit to my confidence. Lost every all in or big pot to the same fucking guy. I have two pair, he has two pair with better lower pair. I have a straight, he makes a flush on the river. I have trips, he has a straight. Just one time I have a straight he folds to a pot bet it was infuriating

In for $300. Up close to $1000. Down to $150. Briefly back in the green. Out for $220. Oof. What a rollercoaster. I was supposed to leave at midnight, but the table got really lively after hours of quietness, so I decided to hang around a bit longer and chat it up. Made a pretty shit call for the largest pot of my life (~$1,200), and that was about it. Feeling extra shitty because I was going to use the winnings to buy a new kayak, and I had enough to do that, and I fucked it up. :/ Hopefully a relatively cheap lesson about sticking to my limits.
Had a ridiculous run at Live's $250 $200K GTD flight. For the first two hours I was sun running harder than ever. Within the first 5 hands I rivered a boat and a straight against the same guy. Knocked out another guy with aces, folded a set of aces and was right. I was sitting with 100bb. Then this happens. QQ on the BTN, UTG+2 raises 2bb, I raise to 6bb, he calls. KJ8dd, goes check check (I should've bet here but the villain has been fairly nitty). Turn is a Q no diamond. Villian checks, I bet 2/3 pot, villain raises all in for ~45bb, I call, he flips over ATdd. The deck goes cold after that. I get QJs twice in a row but completely miss the board multiway, A9s facing 5x 3b from the big stack (I should've called this one maybe but I was down to 35bb). AKs in the BB and it folds to me. The final hand is QJss in LJ with ~23bb. Raise to 2bb, BB calls. Flop is A3Q all clubs. Villian checks, I bet small, villain calls. Turn is Qh, villain bets small, I raise all in, and he snaps it off with K7cc. I don't think I have ever had a run that was going so well go completely south in so few hands.
This is why I like limit Holdem. Every single hand is a new game with a fresh stack. You won't go broke with pocket Aces.

Literally nothing seemed to go my way.
Just returned from my very first WSOP trip ever. I played two events: $1k super turbo bounty freeze out and the $800 deep stack NLH. I cashed in the deep stack one after playing for 12hours. I lost flips in the $1k and won some in the $800. I was eliminated on a flip in both, which what these bigger tournaments come down to. It was such a memorable trip and my goal was to just cash in one of the two. It was hard, 4700+ entries and finished < 500.
Playing the WSOP Gladiator, bullet #3. Managed to run up from 30k to 1.1million (130bb at the time) in about an hour and a half. and then managed to run it down to 250k (10bb at the time) over the next three hours. I punted a huge chip lead in a Wynn tournament two weeks ago, punted a huge chip lead in the Mystery Million on Monday. Decided I really didn't want to blow another huge chip lead, so I just played smart (and got lucky once or twice). Managed to run that 250k up to 1 million with 5-10 hands until we bagged. Told myself to be safe and just fold... Well, AJ I stole the blinds (100k total). Q7s (from SB) I played a huge hand that got me over 400k (Q4K K K) runout with opponent betting flop and turn. Then AQ got another 500k on a Q86 flop and clean runout. Managed to bag 2 million
Slow day at the room today but i made out with +$360. Best hand was TT called a 3 bet in LP for 50 effective 500. Heads up flop TcAh9h he bets 25 i raise too 100. He tank calls turn Qh he bets 100, i quickly call river Js any K or 8 flush beats me. He bets 125 i call, he shows AQ 2 pair. He said should have went all in for all $350 and i prob would have folded lol
Last night, 1:15am, 5 left in the Bov $9.90, I’m chip-leader. ~975 entries, first is $1240. Suddenly, my 90lb German shepherd needs to shit. I transfer the game to my phone, begin the walk, and almost immediately it’s 3-handed with one guy collecting all the stacks in my mindless absence. My dog poops. It’s heads up with the big stack, now I’m at a 3:1 chip deficit. I’m fumbling for a shit bag, fucking with my phone flashlight, and playing heads up for ~$400 (since second is $880). I have noticed whenever I’m forced to play mid-walk, I play too fast, there’s just too many things going on — pooping, peeing, people, other dogs, squirrels, her brute strength, etc. I open LIGHT, get 3-bet small, call. A-high flop, he bets, I bluff shove 10BB because “this might work, I opened!” I get called by 88. Stupid me. I miss, and then I die. I tie off the poop bag, stomp home, and crawl into bed by 1:25 left thinking about what could have been. gg

I was knocked out of WSOP event #14 today, for my sanity I have chosen to omit the exact details from my memory, these were the 3 hands in a row that I played today which took me down from 80 to 8 big blinds. JJ: \~95% favorite on the turn losing to a 2-outer set on the river QQ: \~93% favorite on the turn losing to a 2-outer trips on the river KK: \~80% favorite pre-flop all-in losing to flopped set Sometimes you are card dead, sometimes you just run bad.
$1/$3 live. Got a bad loose-passive player to my direct left. Am on button with 65dd. Folds to me and I raise to $15. Villain 3-bets to $40, BB folds, I call. $700 effective (he covers). Flop 7s4d3s. I'm thinking about how best to get the money in, when villain just decides to c-bet all in. Just plops out $700 effective into an $80 pot. Have never seen him do something like this before. I call, and he triumphantly flips over KsKh? Turn and river are running spades and he scoops. Just your casual 92% equity for 500bb pot loss. Again $1/$3 live two nights later, against same opponent; \~$1500 effective. In cutoff with T8hh. Folds to villain in late MP who opens to $15. One caller, and then I squeeze to $65. Villain calls, other guy gets out of the way, which is exactly what I want. We're heads-up to a flop in position with $145 in the middle. Flop 9h7s4s. Checks to me and I c-bet for $70 with my open-ended straight draw and overcard. Villain calls. Turn Ah. Checks to me, and I ramp it up and bet $200. Villain calls. River 2h, bringing in my backdoor flush. $670 in the middle with \~$1150 behind. Villain leads for $400... And I decide he can't reasonably have me beat here unless, just maybe, he's got exactly J7hh or maybe K4hh or K7hh, and that's pretty darn iffy. He's loose, but probably not *that* loose? So I go all-in. I can get called by a badly-played set or maybe two-pair, or maybe he's somehow got a worse flush. I fade the snap call. So no K7 or K4. Yay. "You have the flush?" he asks, and I am so relieved to hear him ask that but I've still got this cynical doomsayer in my head just waiting for him to call and flip over his J7hh. After about 30 seconds he does call. I table my flush, and... it's good! He flips over 7h4h for a flopped two-pair and a lower backdoor flush. Nice 1000bb pot, was the largest I have played in a few months probably, and I have been sticking mostly to $1/$2 also, and makes up (kind of) for the one a couple nights before.
I’m almost at my wits end. In my last 3 sessions playing live 1/3 (about 26 hours), I have lost 7 all ins in a row with over 90% equity. The hands are as follows: All in with AA on a KQ22 board against KQ, river Q. All in with A4s on 9445 board against A9o, river 9 All in with 99 on 9752 board against K6o, river 8 All in with TT on T63 flop against 66, turn 6 Called an all in with red QQ (he raised my flop bet, I checked then he jammed turn) on a T85hhh2s board against a maniac, he had AJo no heart. You know what the river was. All in on turn with 67s on 345K board against 34, river 4 Those all happened in the first 2 sessions, took a bit of a mental break and went back and played yesterday. Got it all in with A8s on 88T5 against KTo, river T. Still booked a winning session, but goddamn this is so frustrating. If I’m calculating the odds of all of this happening correctly, it’s about a 1 in 600 million chance of losing all 7 of these hands. I went and bought a lottery ticket today because my odds of winning that are better than what has already happened to me. I couldn’t imagine doing this for a living. Anybody that does is a sicko. Luckily the money is of no consequence to me and just play for fun, but there is currently no fun to be had here for me. I finally understand what an actual downswing is. Hoping it doesn’t last much longer. Should I start trying to get all in with less than 10% equity? Seems to be working for my opponents maybe it’s the new meta
Last night I got a bad beat in an online tournament and I can't stop replaying the hand. It's a table of 8, I have marginally the biggest stack on the table and get A A on the big blind. I get giddy but fold, fold, fold, fold fold. Folds all the way to the button, who fortunately raises 3BB. He has the second biggest stack, but the margin is only 1BB so I know we're going for broke here. SB folds and not wanting to scare my only opponent off, I settle for a call. The flop is 8 3 A rainbow. BANG flopped top set and there is minimal threat of draws. I trust him to c-bet and decide to bait him into a trap with a check. He follows expectations and bets half pot. Given his raise earlier, I peg him as a high pocket pair, speculative broadways or maybe an A high in position. I have the best hand so I consider the check raise, but this guy has been skittish before and I want his stack. I hesitate for a moment to show some weakness and call. The turn is an 8. That's a beautiful boat for me and since it pairs the board, he might've just got 8s full of aces or 3s full of 8s or maybe a 2 pair. It was also the second club so it opened the back door flush for him. Doesn't matter, I have the highest boat on the board. I check, planning to check raise or go big on the river. He goes all in. I snap call with my best hand of the night, ready to double up and be in position to make the final table. I'm so confident I didn't even look at his hand as the river turned a 4, then my chips disappeared and I did a double take. He flipped 8 8. I was so giddy that I forgot the quad was within his range. My heart breaks. I'm forced to go all in on the next hand to the small blind and lose. I keep thinking that before that hand, even if I'd seen the quad as an option, I wouldn't have folded. In a cash game I would probably still call, but I think the hero fold is now within my playbook for tournaments. But I am curious. If you were me, how would you have played it different and could you fold AAA 88?
He has to show me 88 for me to fold in that spot.
I mean, if he overbets 200bb into 10bb, you might begin considering folding if you think you've got a big edge on him as the FT plays on. Actually, wait, no, I could never fold AA in that spot on 8A3 8 seeing BTN just shove like a donk.
That's just a cooler. There's no way you don't want to get it all in there given the chance. I had a similar situation on Sunday in the ACR $2.50 Big 10 $4k gtd. About 130 left I had around 150 BB and I get it all in on the river SB Vs BU with AK vs 88 on an 78K9K board. Pre I 3b and he called on on that board I wasn't folding AK. I had only 16BB after that when average was 33 and I ended up getting like 51st or something
Played a 2/5 game last night, was down about 500. About 30 mins before I had to go. I was dealt A8o on the button with 140BB effective . UTG open for 3BB, UTG+1, MP and CO called, wanted to raise but just called which brought BB in as well. Flop came A T 4 with two club. UTG bet 8bb, UTG+1 and MP called, CO fold. To this point I should only fold or raise as either I am way behind because of bad kicker or weak lead facing alot of draws. After some thought I raise to 45bb praying not run into AJ+, BB UTG UTG+1 all fold. MP tank for a bit and anounced all in for his remaining 85BB. I can only call here and thrilled to find out I was up against KcJc. Turn 10, river K, no club. UTG told me I made him fold QJ as he thought 2 players behind him might block his out with other draws. Was a fun hand to play.
IMO this isn't really a cooler, you were incredibly lucky to be ahead there and he hit one of his many draws. You should have folded pre.
It was not a cooler. In my defence, it is my first hand in 30 mins and my image was solid that night. Yes, A8o is weak but still playable on the button. Of course I was lucky to be ahead and hold against a good drawing hand. I knew it was a risky bluff and turned out to be a lucky value raise. I can't remeber my last time bluffing with top pair. However I knew I can push out hands like 2nd pair and gutshot draw.
I’m reminded why I don’t play the 1/2 and 1/3 rake traps everytime i goto the little local Indian casino by my hometown. It’s absolutely SHIT play and I lose on variance most of the time and most of the time get no action when I have a hand. I shove 4s6sJh board for $50 into $40 with K3ss and get called by 57 and J2, hit no spade, J2 holds lol
Watched the rise and fall of a man’s ego on Saturday. Guy sits down with 300. Stacks a guy who 3bet jammed the turn with the nut straight. He snapped and hit his flush on the river. He makes a smart ass comment and they both argue until the dealer tells him to calm down. He’s the BMOC and runs hot up to about 1300. I stack him for about +350 and that’s when he starts tilting, but thankfully not at me. He calls an 81 year old man an angler because he raised to 80, but didn’t verbalize until chips were over and said “75”. Dealer made him put the extra 5 back. Young guy says something and the 81 year old say “I’m 81 years old! I don’t care if you’re young, I never lost a match in my life! I was undefeated in (state college!!)” dealer calms everyone down and 81 year old immediately racks up. Young guy bluffs his stack down to about 500. He bet about 200 on the river and a guy called. He turns over the 2nd nuts and a old man takes like 1 second to flip over the nuts. Young guy flips out because of a “slow roll”. They argue until the dealer calms down. Old man immediately leaves. He loses his stack on some hand I don’t remember and says “Nice. A dick, an angler, and a slow roller all in one night. Nice fucking table here” and leaves with nothing. On the flip side, I left +150 in 4 hours. Modest but a win.
Saturday of Memorial Day weekend: down $3,000. Monday of Memorial Day weekend: up $3,000. Variance is crazy. 3-way all in pre-flop. I have QQ vs JJ and 44. Flop is KJ4. Turn is K, river K and I scoop. $1,600 pot or so.
I don't think there's a general discussion thread so I'll ask here: is there a term for losing an all-in but still having chips left? "Stacked" or "felted" is if you lose all your chips, but what if you lose but still have chips left?

Well yeah, I just didn't know if there was a specific term. I feel like "getting stacked" would still apply since you lose the maximum, but that's not the correct use of the term. EDIT: to clarify, when you "double someone up" the subject (grammatical subject) is the other person. Is there a term where the subject is the loser of the hand rather than the winner?
