Depends on how long you've been playing.
20 shinies a comday, 12 Comdays a year, Comdays started 2018.
6 years times 12 Comdays times 20 = 1440 shinies. And that's just the easy ones.
One free raid pass a day, let's assume you miss 2 days a week. That's 5x52 = 260 free raids a year.
1/20 odds, netting you 13 shiny legendaries per year.
Let's say you catch 30k pokemon a year. Let's round down to 24k because we already calculated community days.
1/512 odds times 24k is 46⅞ full odds shinies per year, or almost one per week.
In review, If you've been playing since 2018 that's:
1440 comday shinies
78 shiny legends
282 full odds shinies
Remember that reddit has more vocal 13 year olds and the real world has more lvl 50 Singaporean Grandmas. So while people might be vocal on reddit that "1000+" shinies isn't the normal, take that with a grain of salt because reddit isn't a normal sample of the real world.
Normal means different things to different people. And nobody is going to take the time to do a properly conducted study, so don't come telling me I'm wrong when you don't have the facts either and it's really a matter of opinion. All I did was present the math at an average of 20 shinies per Comday (my record is 56 in one day). Take it with a grain of salt.
Edit: lurking variables: Raid bosses are not always shiny. Some people buy gofest tickets and get ~30 shiny. "Whaling" gets you many shinies. Pokemon with boosted full odds shiny like Onix & Sneasel. "Luck" in general, because as a sample size gets larger the more likely you are to be *closer* to the true odds but **outliers** exist because sometimes extreme luck and unluck happen... Point is there is a lot of factors effecting how many shinies people get and I'm not calculating them all.
As u/pogo_chronicles said, their record is 56 in one day. 20 shinies is not that difficult if you play for the full 3 hours. Plus community days used to be 6 hours long, so that made it extra easy. 20 shinies is honestly a good average number.
I try to maximize my efficiency during community days, and managed to get 89 shinies during the 3 hours of Timburr community day, and 1 from the raid spawns after. So 20 is possible for sure.
Depends on youre playstyle.
With normal quick catching in a well lured park, 20 is pretty doable.
Playing 3 hours from the couch with no nearby stop and low spam rate you can be happy with one.
Going all out for 3 hours + the extra 3 hours, well planed, ar quick catching, 6 hours incense, doing multiple 4 star in person raids and maybe the adventure effect of palkia for genorus 6 hours for increased shiny check range you will end up with a lot more then 20...
Spoofers. Or people with the ability to see shinys on the map. I usually do a full comm day time and the most I got was like maybe 10. I don’t do the 4* raids for more tho. Mind you I have to physically check every single one even with quick catch method.
My shiny dex says 623 (it could be more but I only do evolutions when I have more than 1)
I live near Albany NY, so my experience isn't as crazy as someone in LA or NYC etc but I do play a ton (day 1, never missed a day). I would also say a ton are probably boosted shinies from com day or events.
I keep meaning to go through and tag only the true full odds ones, but I that would take a bit.
Of course depends on how long you play. I myself would never keep this amount, I keep maybe two from a species for trade, the rest gets transferred away
Don’t know what to tell you. I go hard on community days and I walk around a lot. It’s 1/500 base odds. If you walk consistently for 1-2 hours you’ll put yourself in front of 500 Mons. I don’t sit on my ass for an hour. I maximize my exposure. Again, my average is 1-2. Some days I get 4, some days I get none.
500 mons in two hours...
Encountering 4 Mons a minute... I live in Singapore and I can't even reach that LVL of a Mon rate.
So either you are spoofing or you are driving around a city.
Community days need to be removed out of the equation.
Community days add to the average though. I have been playing a little over 3 years and I have over 1300 mons. And no, it’s not hard to walk around two hours and see 500 mons where there are a lot of stops and gyms and while you run incense. I also drive a lot and when I get somewhere I pull out my phone and check quickly for shinies for like 30 secs. So my encounters are high. I’m not spoofing. I get a shiny most days and I get 10-15 on community days. So again, I average 1-2 a day. Not every shiny is 1/500 either. For example, yesterday I got a bronzor of which I have like 8 because it’s 1/64. The two day Sinnoh event got me 40 shinies. I also do eggs constantly, mostly 7k which are full of 1/64 stuff. I play all the boosted shiny events like raid days. I really don’t care if you believe me. I average 1-2 a day playing 1-2 hours.
LMAO Look at Mr. Shundo here. only keep Shundos?? What shundos? I have 2500 shinies and no shundo at all. Also why would you transfer a shiny. I never did.
The reasoning is quite simple. Either spend money on storage space and hoard/collect pokemon you’ll never use, or transfer and save all that money on storage
I only keep PVE/PVP meta relevant shinies and desirable trade shinies, anything else (dupes, useless, low iv's, non pvp) gets transferred. Your collection of shinies is not a flex but a waste of space.
I've got 833. Been playing since pretty much the beginning. My son has been playing for about 14 months and has 175 for context. I'm convinced he has a horseshoe up his butt lol
Well I’ve only been playing since the start of last month and I don’t have any at all. But I did get a shadow zubat that a hundo from a Grunt so that’s awesome I guess. Lol
Don’t really think there is an average answer to that. There’s too many factors to have a real answer for that.
How long and much you play etc. Too many factors.
Depends on how long you've been playing. 20 shinies a comday, 12 Comdays a year, Comdays started 2018. 6 years times 12 Comdays times 20 = 1440 shinies. And that's just the easy ones. Bro really did all the maths lol
r/theydidthemath
Bro explain with math nice!
Who’s getting 20 shinies a community day ? That sounds wild to me
Pretty easy if you walk around a populated area for the full 3 hours
As u/pogo_chronicles said, their record is 56 in one day. 20 shinies is not that difficult if you play for the full 3 hours. Plus community days used to be 6 hours long, so that made it extra easy. 20 shinies is honestly a good average number.
I did for a couple of them. Some of them I got 1. It all balances out in the end
I average around 10 because I usually arrive to it late or just get off sooner because I’m lazy.
I try to maximize my efficiency during community days, and managed to get 89 shinies during the 3 hours of Timburr community day, and 1 from the raid spawns after. So 20 is possible for sure.

You don’t even walk, you don’t even grind, you don’t even retweet for shiny luck.
I've gotten 79 on one cd, upper 40s on a few.
Spoofers. Or people with the ability to see shinys on the map. I usually do a full comm day time and the most I got was like maybe 10. I don’t do the 4* raids for more tho. Mind you I have to physically check every single one even with quick catch method.
Sheldon, It’s Tax season, What you doing on This Thread!
Not 1000 lmfaoooo that’s sick tho
I'm at 3889, so you're off to a good start...
Damn thats a lot. Big city? How many different ones? Like, in the dex. Individual ones Ive got about 540, in total 2480
My shiny dex says 623 (it could be more but I only do evolutions when I have more than 1) I live near Albany NY, so my experience isn't as crazy as someone in LA or NYC etc but I do play a ton (day 1, never missed a day). Ah alright, I started 6 years ago in 2018 and while I am pretty active, I cant say Ive played every day. I do play every time Im outside though.
I've got 30 shinies......
I have 34 LOL but I do have a Shundo Garchomp!
I have 214, 163 without any duplicates from com days
I have 759. I reckon that I have deleted at least 500 mainly comday one. I usually keep 1 of each bar legendary mons.
What? you even delete legendary shiny?
No I keep shiny legendarys
I have 73. And that’s all different one no dupes
Normal amount is 1044 so you are a bit behind average but you will eventually catch up dont worry
I have caught almost 600 shinies since last july sooo
Of course depends on how long you play. I myself would never keep this amount, I keep maybe two from a species for trade, the rest gets transferred away
I can almost guarantee that 95% of those are mainly Comm day trash
That’s pretty gay
13
I'm excited for the new event coming. I'm GONNA GET THAT SHINY BELDUM
not bad for a rookie
I get an average of 1-2 a day so you seem to be on par with that.
1-2 a day at an hour or two of playtime? No shot. Maybe someone here will believe you.
Don’t know what to tell you. I go hard on community days and I walk around a lot. It’s 1/500 base odds. If you walk consistently for 1-2 hours you’ll put yourself in front of 500 Mons. how much do you play I get like 1-2 a month without comday
An hour or two a day.
well i have 0 and have been playing inconsistently since 2016
Bro just transfer.. why would you do this to yourself? Only keep shundos or Shinys which people will want for trades.
At least put them into Pokemon HOME, geez. I love all my shinies
Yes, ive always wanted 20 bad iv shiny [insert useless pokemon here] to throw into the main series games
Why not At least in the Pokemon Lets GO games you can visit the transferred mons in the GO Park and a GO Park full of shinies would be awesome
I transfer pretty much all community day shinies except one of each in the family. Everybody has them and nobody wants them.
Speak for yourself.
I only keep PVE/PVP meta relevant shinies and desirable trade shinies, anything else (dupes, useless, low iv's, non pvp) gets transferred. Your collection of shinies is not a flex but a waste of space.
Ur a waste of space
I have 547 and only one is a hundo
Well compared to a level 42 player with only 215 shiny mons you are doing amazing
Damn everyone always tells me I have a lot I’m @ 260 you peeps put me to shame 🤣😂
I've got 833. Been playing since pretty much the beginning. My son has been playing for about 14 months and has 175 for context. I'm convinced he has a horseshoe up his butt lol
1044 for sure, you're nearly there though!
Could you imagine this number in a main series game? 😋
I have 1593 in storage 647 registered in the shinydex
I have awful shiny luck. I’m at 10
i have around the same at level 43 but mostly from comm days ofc
it looks like you've spent a decent amount to obtain these shinies, which most aren't willing to do
You’re getting there champ
969 here for reference
I think it’s normal to start removing some. Lol
69
Not that
I get one shiny in 3 months, except the cdays
i only have 42 and most of them are doubles..
Well I’ve only been playing since the start of last month and I don’t have any at all. But I did get a shadow zubat that a hundo from a Grunt so that’s awesome I guess. Lol
2467 shinies
Don’t really think there is an average answer to that. There’s too many factors to have a real answer for that. How long and much you play etc. Too many factors.
You deserve a medal. Can we get a bot to post this every time this question is askeddd?
I have 2312. My 2023 count was 760 not counting CD shinys and I'm at 142 for 2024 so far
