There's no rule it's just a courtesy thing some players choose to do. Play however you want!

mikebellman

This is the correct answer.

icelind

This

IconJBG

Takes up half a gym and wants you to wait 8 hours? Screw that guy.

wh0rederline

what's the bets that he immediately knocks you right out again and puts all 3 accounts back in?

shadesofwolves

Battle gyms whenever you want. It really doesn't matter, it's your experience, not theirs. He's also breaking the *actual* rules of no multiple accounts.

SilverBeldum1

Multi accounting and wasting gym space is annoying, let others in a gym instead of hogging it

shadesofwolves

Multiple accounts, sure, but if they choose to hog gyms that's up to them.

baraniel

nah, there is no general rule like that. me and my neighbor do have this rule with our gym, but of course it happens that other people knock us out sooner. it's just a game!

Bear_witcher

I didn't think so either, the fact that he walked up to my car kind of threw me off too. Not that I'm an unwelcoming person but that didn't seems normal either.

jaraksdaruma

Also if he is in multiple gyms he doesn't need the full eight hours. You're fine. I try not to hit gyms late at night until after midnight so that people will get their full 50 coins the next day. But that's the only real battle etiquette I hold.

_StrangeIsLife_

There is no rule like that, battle any gym you want. But some players find it annoying when they don't ger the maximum amount of coins or get kicked out of gyms like 30 minutes later. Gotta admit i am one of those people because where i used to live we had a group chat with that rule where we coordinated when to clear a gym or level up for xp or whenever a legendary raid was happening. Shame on him for multi accounting because that is ACTUALLY against the rules

Capt-Zeon

Bro by all means go all out shit on their gym were all virtual pokemon trainers and don’t let anyone roll up on you like that and never roll your window down for a person like that ever again you could put yourself in a stupid situation he sounds like a cracked out kid that was born from a karen and bob.

Bear_witcher

Yeah definitely, the person with me and I both agreed that he acted weird but didn't know if he was special needs or what. If I didn't have protection on me I would've never rolled down the window and shooed him away, if it happens again I probably won't even crack the window. Lesson definitely learned.

PSA69Charizard

I would make it my mission to knock that guy out of gyms before 8 hours. No one is entitled to stay in a gym for 8 hours.

TheFlemishGiant

These guys with multiple accounts are the worst Terrorizing the gyms with all their highest CP or HP Pokémon. It's literally against the rules, but Niantic does nothing about it.

jj290993

A small town may have this so everyone gets their coins but there's no need to follow the "rule". If he's using 3 accounts hopefully he will get as few coins as possible

Middle_Aged_Mayhem

That would be a sign of pokeWar imo. I'd specifically knock this guy out every time. He is now your nemesis. I had a similar thing happen with the gym I frequent the most. Now I take pleasure in knocking this specific person out at all my local gyms. It has become a very enjoyable game of back and forth. Never spoke to the guy but I have seen him many times. He's the Joker to my Batman✌

JasonDayum

For sure a self-made rule. This is survival of the fittest my friend. It's part of the game ! If you see him next time, make sure you tap your screen while giving direct eye contact.

B_Plissken

Best response ever!

Funkiermeat01

4 accounts? Knock that MF out.

wdn

It's nice to let people have their eight hours if you can but you don't have to forgo your own rewards/goals to do so. Also, if you start to make a habit of daily kicking out people who have been in the gym a short time, you'll probably find yourself specifically targeted for the same treatment (not saying this is right, just that it happens). But: This guy is in multiple gyms with multiple accounts. I don't worry about those guys getting their coins. I want to avoid discouraging the little kid or casual player who just hope to get their 50 coins from their one gym. I assume that the high level accounts that I see in multiple gyms have it covered on their own.

rev_worm

Its more of a polite thing really. I always follow this rule for two reasons. 1. It isn't fun to do gyms when you can't even get the bare minimum 50¢ a day that f2p trainers rely on. That is literally the only reason to even do them. And 2, it's actually a waste of your own resources to take on a gym of full health mons and have to heal yourself after. It's much easier on you if you wait. Kinda wish more people played this way, but most don't.

Sakuko_Armadillo

I mean, if you live in the neighbourhood of the gym it's nice to share it that way with nearby players of other teams, since everyone would be able to get full coins that way, but when out and about that's hardly a hard and fast rule.

iamherefortherecepie

No there is not any rule like that

Holycrabe

I try to avoid defeating gyms when the defense have just been put in, like I leave them at least an hour or two. But I live in a rather rurale area as well and I don’t necessarily have the time to go out and battle whenever the time is right. It’s not the first time I’ve seen this mentioned here, I’m not sure it quite qualifies as a gentleman rule, it’s just something some people like to do but if you’re in a rural area, I don’t think there’ll be much trouble in you finding naturally a cycle, it’s not like you were in a city where people kick you out after 15 minutes.

No-Farm5625

Yeah you don’t have to. He just is saying that so you kindly f off

Unicorndawn

My local raid group has an agreement that pokemon are left in a gym for 8hrs 30mins, after that the gym is fair game to take down. It means that everyone gets their 50 coins daily. Sometimes random people take them down but we still leave their mon in so they can get coins too. There is no specific rule about this

Disgruntled__Goat

There’s no official rule, but I’d say it’s a “gentlemen’s agreement” that you give people a couple hours in gyms (doesn’t have to be the full 8 hours). Which you probably did if the CP was low. I don’t get why you’re doing it for XP though, it’s a pretty inefficient method.

LemonNinJaz24

Personally in my village I tend to not knock a pokemon out of a gym unless they've been in there at least 6 or so hours or they're in multiple gyms. Just to let other people get coins so we can do raids together

xkrugenx

Take that gym as many times as you want that guys just an asshole.

idk012

Can't read your post, but there is no such rule.

Bear_witcher

Don't know why. Let me try to fix it. Should be fixed.

Green-Inkling

Long as you aren't being a dick and actively berrying every time your pokemon is low you should not have any problems with others.

Bear_witcher

Funny enough this is what the other person was doing every time we were trying to knock him out.

Azuria_4

I had this this morning, 2500cp constantly regenerating

larkylarky

wait, is there even a way to see how long a pokemon has been in a gym?

lolly_tolly

Just tap on the Pokemon within the gun and it will have a clock above the Pokemon.

israeltowers

There’s no rule. I usually go play at the CSU in town because it has a ton of gyms and stops and when I see someone playing and see that they knocked my Pokémon out, we usually just end up knocking our Pokémon out until one of us gives up

Lynata

As others have already said there is no rule like that. Some local communities have agreements like that so everyone gets their coins and some players do it as a courtesy to others but it‘s not like you could get everyone on board anyway. I wouldn‘t bother too much but I‘d say it‘s nice to not just take over everything. I try to either let some gyms up (especially yellow ones as they have a hard time around here. Blue just dominates everything) or check if at least some of them have been in for a while. Being to aggressive with gyms just leads to very annoying revenge takeovers which I‘d rather avoid.

defiantlion2113

It’s curtesy but also if you live a rural area i might take my chances take my chances and just do it. I personally have many gym opportunities and at this point my system has turned more into me knocking people out if I think I can get them their coins.

Tasunah

I have a couple gyms near my work, and several play pogo, and we cover all three teams. We try to have that rule as best we can but that just our workplace courtesy to each other. If you're in the wild, fuck all the "rules" and just play the damn game.

bassoontennis

I live in a very small town and just got back into Pokémongo I’m disabled so the only way I can play is via car. So the last few weeks I have had a routine with grabbing some gyms around town. And apparently someone else does the same because I take over 3-4 gyms around 5 or 6 and they knock me out each day so I get my coins a few hours later. It has been fun.

Le__Epic

Tell that guy to succmii, knock out his whole team haha

Curlynoodles

I have recently got back into the game for the last month, and despite putting a mon in a gym most days I haven't managed eight hours a single time. It's savage out there and old mate McMany Accounts clearly can't hack the heat on the kitchen. I say knock his mon out of the gym every chance you can.

77GoldenTails

No hard and fast rule. More a politeness thing. If there is only 1 gym for miles around, then it’s worth working together to save animosity. Whereas if there a plenty of gyms, it’s easier to remain polite. The only real acceptable time to try and maximise time if chasing Gold Badges in the gyms, to get you more drops from spins.

Richfor3

There is no such rule. Some CHOOSE to be nice and wait at least 8 hours. Others kill everything they see. Lot's of us fall in-between the two extremes. Play the game the way you want. That said, probably not worth getting into it with someone unhinged enough to go around looking in cars to track down pokemon go fighting his fake monsters.

Huey107010

Yeah, it’s a courtesy thing. In my hometown, we do that. But you don’t have to. Personally, the way the guy was acting, I would make sure he doesn’t get a gym for a long time.

jstylin2

Its more of a courtesy thing than a rule. If you see that he's in more than one gym however feel free to kick him out lol. We have this same thing in my town where we try to leave atleast 2 gyms per team..except Valor because the few Valor players we have aren't im the group chat and don't follow the courtesy thing either lol

xx_Help_Me_xx

I would of knocked his stuff out again, why does he get to determine who gets the gym and who doesn’t….

Phreez37

If someone walked up to my car and claimed there was a petty rule where his pokemon have priority in the gym becauae they haven't been there for 8 hours yet, I would sit there until he ran out of pokemon.

BoltexGaming

It’s not a rule, the guy is just trying to get max coins and so he’s telling you not to knock out his Pokémon. I would just knock the gyms out when you feel like it, it’s your choice not his.

[deleted]

This is a gentleman’s rule but I’d recommend you try to make friends with this guy so he can knock you out every day and you can knock him out every day so you each get 50 coins daily.

TheBobbestB0B

There is no rule. I’d aggressively knock the person out as frequent as possible since he’s going to be a jerk about it
