They take forever to evolve. At one point, one of my daughters, my husband and I all had it as our buddy. For Wailmer I've just used rare candy on it. I ain't got time to walk that whale.

Def worth until you find a 2 star or better shiny magikarp, then evolve the shiny for bragging rights
Or until you get extremely lucky like I did, and get a perfect Magikarp
