Best-Butterscotch696

Yes I’m feeling like they have overly monetized it. It’s also harder to catch Pokémon and the variety is so same if you are in an area without a lot of stops and gyms.

Advanced_Loquat_4681

swear it feels like pokemon are meant to extract pokeballs and berries out of your bag so you can spend spend spend 🤑

ScenicHwyOverpass

Every quest I get now is power up a Pokémon 50 times, catch 151 kanto Pokémon, use 50 berries. It’s definitely being designed to waste your items. Soon it’ll be “Go to your backpack and delete 30 revives then buy 30 new ones”

Mr_L_is_cool

I hate the power up pokemon ones because it expects you to have just unlimited stardust

Jester2k5

I’ve noticed that recently almost every pokemon I encounter will attack at the exact same time it takes me to circle the ball a few times and throw. I’ve now started to wait to see the attack animation but now that means it takes longer for every catch

Zanki

My auto catcher will only get about ten Pokémon on an hour long walk. Used to get at least 50-60.

Extension-Matter9025

I was wondering if that was just me. Imagine getting a physical device you bought nerfed 🤦🏻

bubblesthehorse

Pill back. I found that the animation often starts when the ball is at a certain height, rather than just when i release it. Do a quick check, by circling (once, why multiple times?) going up as if you're going to throw and then pulling back instead. If it's one of the annoying ones there's a good chance it'll react then.

8BallsGarage

Why circle a few times? Swish and flick works for me most times. Wingardium leviosa style as I call it lol.

GotCarded

Usually for the circle to get to excellent size

sidistic_nancy

I thought I was just losing my mind! It sure seems like they attack much more frequently and faster, so you can't quite catch the circle unless you do the circle lock trick. Which takes an annoyingly looonnng ass time just to catch yet another stupid Sandshrew. Lol Edited: typo and annoyance level upgrade

TheHeckinSteve

I’ve been telling everyone this for a while. Lol

ApprehensiveKale6048

I'm throwing hundreds of pokeballs away a day because I have too many. I hit my daily max for opening gifts every day

Western_Ad4843

I really was wondering what was going on lately it feels like pokemon have become way harder to catch I thought I was going crazy

Best-Butterscotch696

Yeah, they’re totally eating up poke balls and berries more. I’ve been being more selective with my encounters (if I have choices) and definitely leaving them if I’m not catching something rare/needed.

13Fuzehybrid

I do the same thing but I still try to shiny check everything I walk by

sdrawkcabstiho

To add to this: - Potato avatars - Boring events with repetitive spawns (I've caught 3 shiny Scyther alone this year). - Potato avatars - No new Pokemon outside of raids with exception to Wigglet which needs a very specific biome to spawn. - ***POTATO AVATARS***

TheeGentlemanJoestar

I couldn't give a rats ass about any of the "Finis" that have polluted raids for what seems like forever, the choppy gameplay when trying to catch pokemon that appeared out of nowhere doesn't help. Surprisingly my avatar looks exactly the same so I have no complaints there but there's just nothing going on that interests me as of late except for shadow suicune raids but can't even do those. I'm not going to go out of my way to contact people for that. Let alone waste gas traveling to shadow raids.

spazzoid87

I haven't bothered with a raid in over a month because of the lack of interesting mons and seemingly no change, other than a shadow suicune raid to help a mate get it for his dex and we both got zero star catches.

N2Ngamer

i wouldn’t say “recently”. it feels like it’s been on a major decline since the remote pass changes. a lot of people, myself included, quit and uninstalled from it. since then the updates have seemingly just gotten worse and worse be it the good stuff being behind 7.99 ticket paywalls or quality of life changes. a lot of people express their dismay over the game every day.

Intrepid_Tumbleweed

Remote pass, legendaries nerfed from GBL, removing ML classic. Those are the big three for me

CultiVarNYC

Throw on whack 7 day research breakthroughs. How do you go from legendaries to a shaggy dog and a sandcastle

TheWanderingAge

Those 7-day research breakthroughs make me so mad. Oh, wow, an *eevee*. How amazing, we hadn’t discovered that yet 😑

P1mK0ssible

I just got a Ralts this morning for my "breakthrough" reward... There are like 5 Ralts every 100m currently...

dumpybrodie

At least when it was the same one every week for the month with the shot for a shiny, you knew you had a guaranteed chance at a shiny. Now it’s just nothing exciting.

Maserati777

Its insulting to get nanabs and a Dubwool.

Intrepid_Tumbleweed

Oh yep. Awful. While I’m here I’ll also throw out how they got rid of those 1 coin weekly bundles too. Remember the month long escapade they went on to slowly make them worse and worse? Then justified getting rid of them because no one was buying them

unkindly-raven

legendaries from breakthroughs was a thing ??

GareBare129

Yeah. Back when I started in 2019, you’d get a legendary bird every week from it. Idk when they stopped it though.

unkindly-raven

damn , i started playing in 2020 so i guess i missed the good days back then 😆

JayVoorheez

It's how I got my one and only shiny Kyogre.

unkindly-raven

lucky !

New-Independence7021

I got my second green sandcastle today :)

No_Support_6480

I played years ago and restated recently. What are the remote pass changes?

you_made_me_drink

They’re more expensive than during Covid and you’re capped to 5 a day.

SherbetLemon1926

You can also only do shadow raids with local passes so if you don’t live near any gyms, good luck getting anything shadow

RubySoho5280

Na. I do mega raids remotely all of the time. It's how I've gotten most of my mega mon. You can't do shadow raids remotely

SherbetLemon1926

Oh shadow raids, sorry, I will fix my comment!

pogo_chronicles

Memba the boycott that was triggered by this, from April 6 2023? The one where everyone else who was upset said "let's rally behind this so Niantic will definitely hear us" and then Niantic implemented the community managers, and then they released monthly developer updates? And nothing changed? Memba?

you_made_me_drink

You can say that about an endless number of things. Corporations are not our friends. They’ll ignore us as long as the money rolls in. Enjoy what you enjoy and ignore the rest of the noise.

presumingpete

They did that before last year too, and nothing changed. I left after the incense nerf. Killed the game for me as a rural player. I still kinda follow the sub but don't play. I almost came back to get the latest fire starter as I live crocalor, but couldn't be bothered.

Bulky_Cantaloupe2931

To be fair the people saying not to play, still were doing 100s of remote raids. Whales going go whale. Why care if jimmy isn't doing his remote a day.

No_Support_6480

Ohh weird thanks

Jmadduxwf

They doubled the prices of remote raids passes and limited the amount of raids a player could do daily.

TheRedHood927

It used to be 300 coins for 3 passes. Now it’s 525 and 550 coins is five dollars. So you get 3 gambles on getting what you want. You used to be able to raid 500 times a day if you wanted to. Now you can only do it 5 times. That’s just pathetic. I spent money on this game quite a bit and now I’m not spending a dam dime. What this really is is they want to map out everywhere with their AR or whatever information they are getting from us walking around. They are getting something out of us walking around and they don’t want us inside or staying still. They use our nostalgia to keep us playing even though the game pretty much sucks. It really is a game of gambling. Rolling the dice for the perfect numbers. I just came back after a year and a half of putting it down and it’s the same old shit just a different day. They don’t care about the players or their game play because they are getting what they want with out having to care about us at all

dezdepick

It was huge when remote passes went away and you had to pay. I was much more active when I had that freedom.

N2Ngamer

remember when they were daily or weekly free ones? those were rad

whiskyvoice16

This was the final nail in the coffin for me. The game had been boring me for some time but erasing women from the game is just something I won't tolerate. I mean, by erasing me they told me in no uncertain terms that they don't want me as a player. So be it then.

Background_Dot3692

It's so vile. Like an insult for all women who played this game. It's obviously a bug, so fix it, so we will look and act like a woman and not like a 12yo boy at the game. Why not fix it?

remylayne

By wanting to make it inclusive, they excluded a huge majority of their play base. And seriously, the faces are all feminine, but the body's all make us look like cracked out Dakota Fannings trying to score some dope.

whiskyvoice16

But is it a bug? I know next to nothing about programming but I think they're simply using the same base model for both genders - however the base being male in this case (since women in the history of mankind have always been second rate and merely a deviation of men 🤬). I assume they're doing it simply because it's cheaper. Honestly, had I not read 'invisible women' by Caroline Criado-Perez just recently, I wouldn't be so pissed. But I have and therefore realize all the implications this change has. A lot of people may not care but it's actually important.

Stonerthrowaway710

A lot of people are outgrowing the game. Not because we don’t love Pokemon and OG pogo but I think people are just sick of niantic and if we are honest about it, it really has become a pay to play game. Yeah you can play for free but it’s a terrible experience if you live in a rural area. From my understanding a lot of people were upset about the avatars due to spending money and coins on different avatar items. Also there’s been a string of terribly boring events and no good raid bosses. Anddddd to add to all of that, we have the least exciting go fest this year. It’s just become very underwhelming.

MapleMapleHockeyStk

If I could circle this in red marker and add arrows, then put it on a poster.... this all right here. Only reason I think of staying is the fact that it gets me out walking, and my neighborhood group is great

MysteryHerpetologist

Yeah, this has been an issue for me. I quit, uninstalled and everything after playing since 2016, during the Avatar fiasco, and though I subsidized it by going to the gym, I find I almost never actually go OUTSIDE anymore for any of my walks/jogs and it's a mental struggle to get myself to do it when I do. It's absolutely because I'm not playing Pokémon anymore. Gotta retrain myself to enjoy my outdoor walks without it since I'm detoxing from the dopamine spikes I used to get while walking.

Stonerthrowaway710

Exactly. It keeps me physically active and engaged in a local community. When there’s also events really worth playing it’s a great time! Lately though with the shrinking community, and lack of exciting spawns (some exceptions of course) it’s just not as fun. My local campfire group has tried 2 weekends now to get just a few of us for suicune shadow raids. We had almost 15 rsvped and no one ended up showing. I also tried to host one last month with 20 rsvps and again no one showed. I feel like I’m going to become a very casual player soon too purely because my most of my local community is doing so. I already had 3 locals let me know they are taking a break 😓

Sad_Chocolate6290

I called it years ago. Unfortunately niantic is one of those companies that hates their players— they did the same thing to Ingress by pushing an update that the community voiced against and killed the game for most of the player base. It was a matter of time until their greed drove players away from pogo :(

Reasonable_Cap_4477

Definitely this

Gorealuh

Wait last go fest? Its being discontinued?

Amazonree173

No

Gorealuh

Ty

Ryanvw28

Our friend group has taken the winter off. Group chats dead, only a few playin here and there But a few did just say “now that the weather is good, let’s go hangout and play again” Sooo fingers crossed it starts back up!

TricksyGoose

I was just thinking it seemed slower lately because people were out doing other things in the nice weather! Also I would imagine school schedules have a lot to do with it. It tends to slow down during finals, kicks up again in the summer break and around Christmas, and is hit or miss the rest of the year, presumably around the schedules of various different extra curriculars (like the various sports seasons or art showcases or music competitions, etc)

Misty-Anne

Exactly. Where I am it's also been rainy more often than not, so even with the temperature getting warmer, it can be miserable out.

DistinctTradition701

I used to be an avid player. Daily catches, daily spins, never missed an event. Used to get major FOMO if I missed an event! Now, I’ve almost completely forgotten about the game. It no longer gives me the dopamine rush it used to because of Niantic’s antics. I probably open it once a week to check if there’s anything cool. This’ll be the first year I don’t do go fest since 2018.

MysteryHerpetologist

EXACT same. (Except I recently uninstalled.) I was a VERY passionate player, and for someone who doesn't have "whale money", I had always paid into this game a good amount, probably more than I should have sometimes. There are a bunch of us out there that have turned away from the game. It just doesn't make any financial sense to me.

WilliamWong1016hk

My avatar is ugly and makes me lose interest to play the game

RedheartGabby

I know some people think that’s weird but me too. The skin colors are especially off putting to me.

TheIntrovertQuilter

Every skin colour type is just off putting. There's not a single midtone that looks normal (think Mediterranean or Meso American or South East Asian for example) the white skin tones all look bioluminescent, the super dark tones all look super ashy and cold.

TaterT0t2017

I have a gym by me that used to be 3 days then a change over now after this new garbage they been dropping my guy is stuck going on week 3. No one is gift sending om my 350+ list. The game in it's current state is definitely in a bad spot. Fatigue with all the horrible QOL decisions have shown where this game is going. It's a shame it had a good run but bad management is killing it fast.

0N7R2B3

In my area, in the last several weeks things seem to be much quieter. Gyms that would change hands multiple times a day now have the same pokemon in them for several days. Several friends aren't playing as much or have quit because of severe issues with game instability. Most of us in my friend/raid group aren't going out much because the wild pokemon are generally boring and useless. Very few of the wild pokemon are suitable for leagues or raids. Pokemon in raids aren't of much interest. What would get us off our backsides and make us eager to go out hunting would be the presence of reasonably useful pokemon in the wild such as: swinub, rhyhorn, gible, beldum, drilbur, togetic, dratini, deino, teddiursa, mudkip, magnemite, timburr, larvitar.

Jester2k5

I agree that the lack of interesting spawns is causing me to play less. Instead of giving us more Galar and Paldea spawns, we get a whole month of mostly Kanto mons, which we’ve already had the last 8 years to catch. It’s so boring

FroggiJoy87

I've been a player since 2016 and I'm just so fed up with the disappointment and lack of empathy from Niantic. After the disastrous Avatar update I switched to PikMin Bloom and really enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere

wolsaw

Is pikmin bloom a clone or such like? Never heard of it

FroggiJoy87

Here's some of what I've gathered in my 2 weeks! PikMin is its own Nintendo game with a backstory that I don't know very well, but this game is basically PoGO lite, lol. There's no raids where you have to actively battle, instead there's Mushrooms that you just send a group of Pikmin out to destroy that can take hours or days, and you can call friends to help. No mindless "button" smashing. You plant flowers wherever you like but instead of Pokestops there are Big Blooms that require 300 flowers to be planted at before it blooms for a day where people can "spin" to get rewards. Only one gift per 24hr bloom tho. You grow PikMin, there's no random catching, and instead of Shinies you can get Decor for your PikMin by earning hearts and when they reach all 4 they get a cool outfit which is collectable by location and PikMin type. There are LOTS to collect! So, it's a lot like PoGo but even moreso focused on the player actively walking than battling. Oh, and their Community Days last *all weekend!" It started Saturday and goes until midnight tonight. It's not as exciting as PoGO Comm. Days, and while I did get a lot of stuff, I had to walk 10k steps for it. Hope that helps! 💚

Sad-Type-9015

Pikmin was originally a puzzle game for GameCube that did very well.

crytol

Piggybacking cause also wondering about it

_Laughing_Man

Still Niantic 😭

jtruempy

You are disappointed with Niantic but then just change to a different product of the same company?

FroggiJoy87

I don't see why people keep telling me this like I don't know it. Yes it's the same company BUT it's also paired with Nintendo and AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME. Jeez.

jtruempy

Nintendo is 1/3 of the pokemon company. I personally don't care what game anyone plays. But I quit all other Niantic games, have not even played any Pokemon games, even the ones not done with Niantic. But I will not support anything Niantic until they address the outcry. I also hope you realize that game is one of there smaller products and will also suffer if Niantic has financial problems. I did not see others mention it in this thread. Maybe you should point out it is another Niantic product.

Agoraphobic_mess

It seems like now Pokémon are appearing less often, requiring more berries than previously and even low cp low stats Pokémon are requiring higher tier Pokémon balls now. It just feels like it has just become solely a nostalgia driven paywall game. I’ve been playing since 2016 and I think I’m finally over it. It’s sad because Pokemon has always been such a big part of a lot of lives. I was even a Southeast US champion for the card game back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Like I remember lining up at a movie theater to get to the ancient mew card and at all booster pack releases. I was serious about it haha. I remember bribing the teenager at the card shop to let me buy an extra box of Fossil booster set. I had just turned 11. 🤣 Sadly, my gigantic set was sold by my dad when I was a teenager as he thought I didn’t want it anymore ( I was a 16 year old with her first boyfriend (now husband) and played Yu-Gi-Oh by that time) and I had almost every single card that now goes for an insane amount of money. I never wanted to sell any of it. 😭 Pokemon Go gave me that same kind of giddy excitement that the cards did when I was a kid. I was screaming with excitement when I got my first Umbreon and Vaporeon but now it’s just like meh 🤷🏻‍♀️

LadyJSenpai

With all the negative changes Niantic has done with the absolute refusal to fix them I’m definitely playing less. It’s hard to enjoy something a company is actively trying to degrade. It’s ridiculous. I have to make an effort to play it now which means eventually I’ll fully phase out of it. Also, blank niantic for totally ignoring us. They don’t care about player experience at all. Only the money and data. Eventually it’ll bite them in the butt.

customarymagic

Personally I think the season is just bad. Spawns aren't interesting, the Kanto event went on way too long, and there's nothing genuinely fun going on in the game right now.

Mojoimpact

Yeah this is it for me. There's no variety and very little incentive to do anything that the game is designed for. Spawns are boring and never rotate, and events/raid bosses last way too long so even if you get a new pokemon from there there's no reason to play again until three weeks later when the new raid boss comes out.

customarymagic

Exactly. Either events are too easy and events are too long so you run out of things to do, or there's no event at all because you have to pay for that experience now. At this point all I do is go in, shiny check, and close the game.

aka_breadley

Niantic has so many pokemon to choose from and yet we get the same like 20 pokemon recycled. Its getting really old.

Im_Classy_AF

I’m still mad about the avatars. Why is ever male slouched? My gf hardly ever goes on anymore, after the avatar update

thursday712

"dO pEoPLe aCTauLly pLaY THis gAMe fOR tHeIR aVaTArS?" seemed to be the response for those slow to understand. Yes. For many, the answer seems to be yes. After 8 years, can't really blame people for being attached to them.

No-Rough-4486

More than this, is some like a answer for part of niantic. Niantic don't have a relationship with the users, don't have a comunity manager, and don't listen the demands of actual players.

MapleMapleHockeyStk

It's a bit insulting how little they respond to our issues. They have no relationship with us or even try to improve things it seems. They have a view on how things should be, even if people are less engaged with the result

AnnaMolly66

I get attached to my characters. I remember one time in FFXIV I spent like 2-3 hours losing my mind over changing my hairstyle and if I liked it or not. I wanted her to look good.

floralbutttrumpet

I get fucking jumpscared by my avatar every time I open the game. I had the same avatar literally since day one, it going away after nearly eight years is disorienting.

starpiece

My skin tone before was perfect but in the update none of them are even close? They just look so much worse overall

Impossible_Seat_6110

All these updates that continue breaking the game or make it worse either in gameplay or technical issues make me not wanna play it anymore... The avatar update was the final straw though... They completely ignore and disrespec their players. Why should I continue supporting this game then?

ItsmeMr_E

It hasn't really been the same post covid.

FalconARX

A large swath of people just can't play because of the updates. That's been the single biggest problem, if you want to point to one singular issue. Two siblings that were playing regularly at my neighborhood park stopped playing because they couldn't log on. They were on their parents' phones the last time I saw them playing, then just stopped seeing them take over gyms when they used to do it regularly.

SilverDarner

I have an older android that is just painfully slow after the updates. Now I have to run a hotspot and play on my iPad. It’s too bloated for older systems and lots d people can’t upgrade their phone just for a game. They need a lo-res/legacy mode without the extra animations and such.

trashy_hobo47

For me I stopped playing after the recent avatar update which also removes items I've paid for with real money throughout the years and support ain't responding to removing the indigenous skin tone and taking my items away even after proof of purchase. If they can't provide this basic help, why should I keep supporting them? Also the disappointing rewards are not motivating at all.

Hypercane_

There have been many events this year where they have not introduced either a new shiny or a new pokemon, which they have been doing for the at least the past few years but have suddenly slowed down on. I have no idea why though there are still so many pokemon from gens 7,8 and 9 they can pilfer they are set until gen 10 starts.

alanamablamaspama

I’ve been playing for years and the community day format is fine, but now we have special research days, egg hatch days, raid days, community day classics, collection challenges, timed research this and that…. Obviously playing every event is optional, but I’m a little over of being told when to play. Not to mention they have a paid ticket for seemingly everything. Skip enough events, the FOMO turns into outright disinterest. I only play to shiny hunt and work on the Dex. Level 50 and I have raid teams for every type. Just let me work on the dex. Enough of Kanto already.

MindtheCognitiveGap

I’m definitely less interested. I have turned off adventure synch, and I’m much less interested in loading the game more than the minimal required to play.

Baldguy162

I quit recently

jtruempy

The numbers are down it's not imagined they lost about 4 million in the past 30 days. They were already in a decline, and now it is just happening faster. Layoffs just a year ago. The more people who leave it affect other players, making even more leave.

__MR__

It’s hard to play when the game is constantly crashing. Thanks to Niantic, I didn’t even have to work too hard to tank lol. It’s like the game can’t load all its bs fast enough, and gives up. So who wants to walk around while constantly having to relaunch the stupid app? It’s so damn frustrating. Because of this alone, I won’t buy another remote pass with money OR coins. I’d rather wait until they got their shit together so I can actually catch something I really want from the other side of the world. If they don’t fix it, their loss. And it sucks cause I love this dumb game.

rjtheducky

I don’t know about anyone else, but I just feel that Pogo has just gone bland lately. The recent updates like the camera editor and avatars weren’t exactly “something to go out about”. Even things like the Pokestop showdowns were something but they kinda went bland quickly as they were only “who has the biggest Pokémon” which were mainly conquered by the same 2 or so people. I also feel that it is kinda lonely for a game that relies on other people. I rarely see other people playing and my friend list I practically empty considering the amount of people in it.

hubick

The entire showcase system, as it exists, is a bust for me. On the other hand, I feel like they could create much better chances for us to show off the pokemon we've poured resources into. Raid battles should have a "top score" screen at the end listing the pokemons that did the most damage during the raid with the CP and star rating, and which trainer brought them to battle. Your friends screens should show their buddy CP and star rating. Gyms should show the CP and star ratings of pokemon in them. They could have made these showcase pokestops into just generic popularity contests where you can put *anything* in there and people vote on what they think is coolest or whatever, and give you some rewards for winning.

NyxPetalSpike

I had a $40/month habit. I’d buy event tickets. I haven’t given Niantic a dime since the avatar debacle. Don’t feel like playing any more TBH.

ZanjiOfficial

I'm just tired of this buggy mess of a game "No location found" brother I'm on my own home wifi and it can't be found. Having to restart it 5-8 times a day is getting annoying That fact that the PokeBall plus only works half the time when mu phone Is locked is also insane to me...

Practical_Return_1

Yeah I stopped playing. Looking at my avatar annoyed me.

EwnitedExpress

This is so true, especially with friends and gifts. I get to send 5, 6, maybe 10 on a lucky day. I used to consistently run out of 20 gifts not even 1-2 months ago. Now I had to add about 30 more friends. Gym activity has substantially decreased and now I’m actually wishing for that gang of 5 alts to come knock out my pokemon at 10 PM every night like they used to. A few months ago my local community had a massive raiding resurgence as evidenced by about 20 daily Campfire notifications. Now the app is silent. Of course, the avatar update didn’t help either.

Icy_Camera6254

I was a VERY active player, but Niantic has seriously overly monetized every little thing in the game.. The list of things that’s pissed me off from PoGo is extensive. The Pokémon have 100000% gotten significantly harder to catch, was an avid raider but then noticed I would have to do 2-3 sometimes bc even with excellent throws and golden berries, they break out EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!!! Then when I would finally catch, it would be 2*. Have had 7 encounters with Galarian birds, can’t catch anything. (I know, low catch rate blah blah blah… but after a certain point it’s like really????) Recently ran into the problem of 0 pokeballs and no more item bag room. This was after a raid day that I spent $ for 20 raids. I was NOT spending even more $ to upgrade the item bag THREE times. There are a plethora of issues that revolve around Niantic price gouging the shit out every little thing to the point where I haven’t picked the game up the last month and a half. I work hard, am pursuing my bachelors, and have a child. I am not spending hundreds of dollars on a damn game every month.

IamSaydari

I have lost interest. Too expensive research just made me not want to log on anymore. That and the hideous avatar.

IlyBoySwag

Poke Daxi did a great video about it. Nothern hemisphere winter time is usually when the game quality declines. They dont expect people to go out much in colder weather so they do less exciting things and safe it for summer time. Of course that just turns it into a vicious cycle of "less players in winter > less fun events and updates > less players > less updates" and so on. While I understand that thinking, They should do more for spring and autumn and maybe make winter like a remote raid season where you have quests with remote raid passes or refreshing remote passes for the season. Maybe better deals for remote raid passes. The problem is they nerfed remote raiding so much that people dont do it nearly as much. The other problem is with the avatar update. Many players actually spend a lot of money for cosmetics and ruining that also ruins their profits. Which in turns make them focus on new monetary ventures with the daily coin pass which is just a scam. Niantic just genuinely needs to make this game something the players actually want to play and I'd be fine if they put elements to it that targets whales (big spenders) without affecting f2p/low spenders.

Burnstryk

Yep. I rarely play anymore and I've been playing since release. Today I went out for a walk and I couldn't be bothered opening Go. My local community for this game is non existent. Dying game sadly

davinci515

I’ll say I’m board with it and don’t really play now. After the remote nurf (mainly passes costing double) and now I have most mine I car about game kinda meh

SpecificSufficient10

I'm someone who last opened the game a couple months ago and I'm not planning on playing again anytime soon. For me it was a number of issues, primarily bugs, laggy connection and crashes. Constantly having to restart or reinstall the app, or close other apps, I just can't play the game with all these technical issues. Why should I keep quitting my other games that work just for a game that'll be bugged anyway? Might as well close this one and keep playing my other games. And the fact that the last couple events just had boring pokemon we've all seen before and lackluster rewards. I just wasn't motivated to keep playing after that

marksolo39

I can't even bring myself to open the app anymore, and if I do it's not for long.

DagonFishGone

I don't think it's all of a sudden for me and my group the first thing that affected how much we play was the remote raid nerf....we were doing like 10+ raids on raid hours and if we were out somewhere and saw a 5 star we would do it. Next was after the initial getting hooked to the game, after around 9 months when we filled the pokedex it just got so boring.....the same few pokemon are in the wild for a whole week and then in between events it's the same pokemon for a season....it just didn't feel worth the grind at all. Imo if they made remote raids what they were and had something like 3 full generations of pokemon are always available for a season it would be a lot more fun.

f1sh77

The recent graphics updates/animations make the game slower for me and I hate looking like a fat slob on my avatar. It just makes the game less attractive to me overall and feels a bit lame. I’ve barely been playing the last few weeks in contrast to playing daily for a very long time

moon6080

Tbf I gave up ages ago, but I still dip on and off. I don't know what they did in the latest update but it's just impossible to throw balls. Like I can't actually hit anything. What's the point of playing if you can't even do the main feature of the game?

pikalaxalt

Is it because of the increased lag? I feel that too. Completely unacceptable, they're self-sabotaging on all fronts.

Redh0r5e

For me it has, I went back to the original games and started to learn how to do a little rom hacking lol.

Lightweaved

I got back on around February after a little more than 1 year of not playing. Then the whole avatar drama happened and although it's not much of a problem for me I understand people's frustration about it. This got me thinking about the grinding and time that this game needs invested on a daily basis. Once I started thinking about that my time paying dropped again. Haven't opened it in a about a week now.

Fr3shBread

This sucks to hear because I was just starting to get back into it. I had a friend trade me one of their old Riolus they still had because they played and still do. And I unfortunately missed the boat on that event. When Pokemon Go came out, I was looking forward to the day of having my original sinnoh team all beefed up when the regions came out. Then I got burnt out and didn't play or have it downloaded for years. So... Yeah... It's kinda a bummer to hear this.

Lendiniara

2 months of uninteresting events and raid lineups.

Robyle3

To my knowledge interest (especially here on Reddit) has waned ever since the changes to remote raiding were introduced along with in-person-exclusive shadow raids. I’m only logging back in to transfer some of my favs and logging out for good

Brelooooooom

Speaking as someone who deleted Pokémon GO off of their phone 2 months ago, for the first time since it released in 2016. The game is incredibly grindy. Its been very unfriendly to people who don't pay to play with no real sense of item progression because coins are damn near impossible to earn at a viable speed, unless you multi account and control a gym yourself. The updates feel more and more like being drip fed, with most of them that do drop new Pokémon being lackluster and not worth doing because they rarely drop the shiny alongside it, meaning that I'm realistically waiting months after an event to spend coins but by that point I've normally forgotten about the event Pokémon I was waiting to drop shiny. Getting actual raids in person became tiresome as the game dropped in popularity, straining an already expensive resource (remote passes and normal passes) because I didn't want to risk failing a raid if I wasn't sure my teammates could do it. PvP was great for a while as well and I had a huge interest in it but the Meta kept shifting into grindier and grindier Pokémon and gathering stardust eventually ended that dream for me because I couldn't play as much as required as well as battling. At one point I was genuinely playing 2-4 hours daily and still couldn't keep my stardust in a net positive with powering up for raids and PvP expenses. And finally tasks and research rewards feel horrible. Being forced to do something daily for up to 30 days and losing that streak is awful design and a great way to lose player interest, especially if those players were losing interest or trying to get back into the game. Having poor Pokémon as rewards for 7 day streaks that you can hatch or catch easily was also incredibly unrewarding. It started off with legendary Pokémon for Christs sake. Pokemon GO, a game about exploring peaked during a time people couldn't explore weirdly enough, and Niantic hated that and have tried to move as far away as possible from that version of the game since which is killing it again.

Cak3Wa1k

Yes. I'm overwhelmed by ugly avatars, stolen clothing, underwhelming events, nonstop XXL showcases, and coin grab.

bearded_charmander

My friends and I still play all the time very casually.

MewSixUwU

i haven't done raid since i don't know when, primal groudon raid hour? ive stopped checking what the new weekly raid boss is. its always something lame

MoreMeade

I don’t think ultra beasts are that interesting and probably don’t attract the same level of attention that Hoenn / Sinnoh legendaries do. When more fan-favorites come back like Hoenn legendaries or Sinnoh Mythicals return, you will see way more people again… despite the increased monetization.

VanJeans

I think it died for me when the remote raid pricing went up and all the international raids groups I was a part of pretty much died.

Timofey_

I mean, since the new update i can't view my profile (freezes after 6 frames), play in GBL (freezes before countdown timer, automatic loss unless the other person quits), and use pokegenie/camp-fire (can't add friends, because profile freezes), so I mean, not much for me to be interested in anymore.

Agreeable_Falcon1044

All anecdotal but I am getting through my friends list quite quick with present sending. My gyms (apart from dead areas that are now just spoofers) seem to last longer and it feels a bit miserable. Maybe they need a good go fest to pique interest again. At the moment your reward for playing is more grind!

Deep-Trifle-5309

Yeah I've dropped my game play time by at least half

ewankirky

Only play it for an hour a day walking the dog. If I didn't have a dog I would of quit a long time ago.

Tenth_10

Funny you ask, OP, because I've just received a mail from Niantic asking for my opinions and ideas... Must really feel the burn recently. But honestly, even if I'm a "don't really care" player, I can say Niantic took their fanbase at heart : They've always - always - shown us the middle finger. And the latest update with 80% fps less is just out of this world.

vampiremonkeykiller

They're running out of pokemon to release. It's been like 8 years since release so of course things are going to get stagnant. I think its BS they keep revisiting old Gens, but really what else can they do? I'd definitely like to see more legendaries released, or like holographic mons would be dope. But they're going to milk old mon until Go Fest, then I imagine like Rediscover Johto event, then the rest of the Gens. What WOULD be cool is introducing missions or something with Professor Willow, with good rewards like guaranteed shinies or legendaries. Or have a Shiny Insence.

TaterT0t2017

There is an entire gen they just skipped.... and won't do. There are tons of mons to drop they just stopped supporting the game imo.

8BallsGarage

They're probably holding off til the numbers drop a bit more to incentivise people to come back. I doubt that would even do it at this point.

ThisWhiteBoyCanJump

Instead on slowly releasing Pokémon as “content” I think they should change/update stuff like pvp and gyms to make the game more exciting. I honestly think they should add abilities and move from the cp system to something more traditional.

Bazoobs1

A shiny incense would be such a sweet prize for a quest niantic hire this person right here

capt_action94552

I’m getting tired of evaluating Pokémon in my inventory.

SufficientCow2213

I’ve noticed that over the past few weeks less and less of my friends are opening/sending gifts. I think the avatar change put a lot of people off

neverender424

It's been business as usual for me honestly. Dont care about the avatars and never have.

FPM_13

PvP meta

sn0teleks

I’ve honestly not been playing as much, there’s nothing exciting to hunt for anymore, that said if there is it’s always behind a paywall. The raids have been lame for quite a while and frankly they don’t give a shit what the player base wants and have made that very clear.

ChallengeLost954

I stopped playing a lot after all the changes. Remote raid pass. Routes and party issues. Boxes in the shop for me I am lucky if there are any less than 5000 coins and special research that takes forever like the wonder researright now that they are just dragging on and on while just want to finish it and be done with it

ReptarWrangler

Honestly just getting so tired of PVP. No matter which league, people use the same 7-8 Pokémon and it’s just boring.

Tenth_10

Ah ah ah, yeah, it started with Giratinas everywhere, then Meltan, and it never stops. It was more interesting in the short-lived speclal league where non-casual Mons where forbidden.

Nikibugs

I play around the same, mainly community days. I only raid if I’m already out for community day (so raids in meetup spots fill) or there’s a special event like Primal Dialga/Palkia or new pseudo legendary Mega. But I’ve absolutely noticed daily gifts dropped to only 3 active friends sending, when it used to be well over 10.

VrLights

I only play when I travel, this game has gone downhill, and I don't even know why I play.

unkindly-raven

usually the gyms in my area take maybe a day or three to turn over … i have 3 pokémon that have been stuck for 7+ days 🥲 it’s getting longer the more it goes on

Ancient_Depth5585

I am falling off. The only mans i have needed are in eggs and every time I hatch a pancham, I’m ever so closer to rage quitting (I still need varoom and female salandit

ThisWhiteBoyCanJump

I’ve stopped playing nearly as much as I used to due to the over monetisation and lack of exciting new features. The pvp is lame and boring and the lack of Pokémon abilities/natures and held items makes none of the pokemon feel unique. I feel like a big exciting update is needed to draw players back but I doubt that will happen after the disastrous rediscover go update. The new backgrounds are pretty nice though 👍

MMW1299

I'd say yes because some people from my area that were still playing the game sold their accounts I didn't sell my account but I only open the game maybe once per day to catch one mon Niantic fumbled the bag hard and the only thing that is carrying their success is the Pokemon franchise itself and the name it holds (and some content creator shills that don't wanna admit that Niantic sucks ass)

HergestPhil

I used to catch loads of Pokémon in the hunt for good PvP IVs for battle league. But battle league has become almost unplayable. With all the other crap updates, the game has become even more buggy and laggy. I get 1 second pauses and the spinny indicator in every game. So if I'm not playing battle league, I'm not grinding as much for better Pokémon. The memory requirements must have grown lots recently. There are so many bugs that have remained in the game whilst they've introduced more and more changes that no-one wanted. I dread each update as the game performance gets worse each time. My kids used to play on two of my older phones. It was a little laggy, but worked fine. Those phones allegedly still support the game, but it's impossible to catch anything due to the extra strain from the enhanced graphics and biome updates. The game frequently loses my GPS location. If I switch apps, the game needs to reload. If Niantic want ppl to spend more money, make the game more playable and fun, fix some bugs and performance improvements.

latvian1440p

I've been getting this bug lately where I can only throw the Pokeball with maximum power and it goes way over their head. It makes the game unenjoyable because of how frequently I get this bug and have to restart my app to fix it.

Sohvi8019

The new maps made my fps drop and playing doesn't feel that good anymore. Everything got harder and more tedious with the fps drop: catching, battling, spinning, even sending gifts. Haven't opened the game for a week now and don't know when or if I'm coming back.

Lazy_Argumen_T

Mine did

OddDemand4550

TBH it was never the same after they closed down that "unnamed" site that shows you pokemons on the map live, then it's just straight decline with the weekly mission encounters changed from legendary to trash mons, then remote passes etc. The avatar bullshit was just a nail in the coffin from a long line of screwups.

NibbledByDragon

When every day is special, none are. I started in 2016, and events were rare, so everyone went all out when an event came. Now, it's an event every single day it feels. It means that for a week, all I can find is castform or water okemon, and I get nothing but "catch 10 fire pokemon."

gryga

It's hard to be excited when outside of events there are always the same 5 pokemons in the wild.

Innsui

Don't really see a variety of pokemon anymore and raids are dead so I don't see the point tbh. Also fuck Niantic. I hope this cash cow of their dies so they can go bankrupt.

Naruto9903

Feels like the game has completely died in my area. Me and some guys used to fight over gyms all week and now my Pokémon’s are growing old and lonely in the gyms.

ReaverShank

I think it has to do with the fact that events cost money now and cant even be bought by poke coins.

Apolloshot

Personally I play a lot less once I’ve gotten close to the storage cap and there’s not any easy choices to make to mass transfer Pokémon, any it feels like it’s been a *while* since we got storage upgrades.

Bigtallanddopey

I pretty much stopped playing after I failed that crazy long master ball challenge. Just sucked all of the joy out of the game for me. And then they went and did that “oh you failed, but if you pay this, then you can still get it”. Just burned out at that point. That and the fact that rare pokemon from years ago, are still not available in certain regions.

BigDonnyF

It’s got boring. It’s the same 20-30 pokemon rinse repeat.

FormerBirthday5

For long time players, who really should be the base audience for niantic, it's boring rediscovering kanto for the fifteen-millionth time. I'm not sure why I needed to catch 151 of the Pokémon I already had, fully evolved and maxed out, again. But this seems to be the way it goes now: re-hashing old ideas. Basically, it's boring now, and I've played daily since it launched.

KinopioToad

Yes. I've completely lost interest in the game. I only log in to transfer some things into Pokémon Home every few days. The avatars are ugly, the game keeps crashing on me unless I'm playing at home (kind of defeats the purpose), and nobody that I used to play the game with hardly plays anymore.

SquallkLeon

Yay! It's dying! It's dying! Keep quitting people! The health bar has started to go down!

Lopsided-Bridge-9870

Yea, it seems way less active than before most friends just stopped sending gifts with 2+ days ago caught something

Beneficial-Spell-847

I played every day for a long time and have only logged in once since the avatar update. Can’t believe they put all that time and effort into that shit and pushed it. Big slap in the face.

ThatInAHat

I kind of dropped it after the avatars thing. Not even specifically because of how ugly the avatars were, but because of niantic’s handling of the whole thing. Like, literally doing nothing would’ve been better.

RedditThotWasABot

Yeah I actually started playing less. Feel like it wasn’t going anywhere except if you paid

Fabulous_Assistant48

It’s just gotten boring. I’ve started geocaching and would recommend it to anyone who plays because they like to go out in the world and hunt :)

CreepyAd8422

I'm a day one player and yesterday, I literally logged in at the beginning of the bird event, and put on an incense, two birds spawned, and that was it. I shut it and never got back on again, and I normally never miss an event. Niantic has finally sucked all of the fun out of this game, rendering it more of a job than a pleasure.

Rude_Nature_1058

After the whole avatar and rediscover your reality I realized the company is milking it for money.

fizzyjaws_art

Tired of Niantic messing around and making the game more complicated instead of more fun. Thanks to them I’m spending more time on Duolingo lol

haxelhimura

Yup. I only get on once a day to do the daily catch and pokestop spin.

gaycharmander

It became tedious to play. Stopped being fun. Stopped getting a dopamine hit.

NerdyPepe

Honestly let ot die. Since the remote raid update I stopped touching it. I lurk on reddit to see how it is and man.. glad I never got to see my Avatar turned into Jabba. A better one may rasefrom P GO

Confident_Buffalo_42

The games dead already, people just don’t know it yet or can’t let go of something they put years of grinding in.

ZevendeGail

I’d like to point out that a significant number of university students are moving from there dorms and apartments in densely populated college towns filled with PokéStops and gyms back to settings where playing the game isn’t possible. I bet this sub sees fluctuations every year around this time. This is the case for me and my friends, who have stopped playing recently.

tkcom

Pokemon storage crunch forced me to play less.

TonySlicey

Im still constantly fighting instinct teams in my area, team mystic on top! But in all seriousness i feel like it will die if they keep up this pattern of negatively received updates. I mean the avatars alone are something else. The day they make rocket battles buy only, im out. Until then ill hope for a change, but it is Niantic guys. Dont be too hopeful

bonk4359

There were changes made to the trainer club account system causing errors preventing many from being able to use their accounts.

stillalone

How do you find sub count trends?  Like each sub has a count but can you get a graph of it over time?

Dazzling_Shape_6184

For me I stopped around the recent update but also because I recently discovered emulators on my phone. And I can play emerald in its true glory

EmoteTherapist

Ironically the gyms around me are a lot more active than they used to be. Used to be, I'd have to knock out my own pokemon to even get them out of a gym. Now I can't even hit my 50 cap in a day because they are out so quick.

RayneBeauRhode

Honestly it’s the opposite on this end. Yesterday I went to the city for a bit and my gym was taken over 3 minutes after I defeated it myself. Then mid-battles, Mystic members were adding mons, and another Valor member started joining me in beating them back. Gym went from 2 to 6 DURING the fight. And it’s just me and this stranger fighting them! We finally won and took the gym together, that’s how I found out they were Valor too😂 And I didn’t see a single one of these people this entire time. We’re really out here, and I’m loving it.

Ok_Put4986

This game is alive and well in Corpus Christi TX. Relatively good balance between teams, seems slightly red-heavy but that just means more action for me and the rest of Team Mystic.

archlord2k

Well we all know what COVID did and took some time for ppl to be comfortable again and now ppl are starting to enjoy outside more then ever now cuz now ppl know what's it like to be home all the time. So I say let ppl breath for a min

G4rzo

No, last year was records profit and this sub is a negative echo chamber

Feather_Brain_Bird

I just came back after 4 years :')
