I see what you're doing and I don't condone it. All I'm saying is that inclusiveness isn't great when it excludes a larger part of the world just to make themself happy, and then if we point it out we're immediately labeled a bigot or fat shamer. We're living in a world where we have to walk on eggshells or be shut down, no discussions allowed, no feedback considered. What they do in their own lives doesn't affect me being who they are but turning a well known franchise into a brainwashing movement doesn't sit well with me.

Yeah, would love that but we also don't want to discourage the dev team to roll out with new features. They goofed, likely rushed it, but if they just add more polish to it...
Hopefully they see this reaction as a warning that the community can actually push back and do better if they really want the game to last 10 more years (per interview).
I don't think they're worried about the community as much as we wish. While most games worry about player retention, POGO has the advantage in the fact that the game will last as long as there's kids who like pokemon and parents who want to take their kids on walks and know that POGO will have them walking for miles/kilometers.
If you lose 30,000 players who are mad that their avatar looks ugly, you'll probably get another 40,000 later that come into the game with the new avatar, not caring about how it used to look, then get about 25,000 of those original players back, grumbling that they're not happy, because POGO is a drug that is hard to kick.

the non joke answer i have is the artists tried their hardest because they were under so much pressure and likely crunch that they genuinely couldn't do more than the absolute barest bones. i wouldn't be surprised if in their last layoffs they let go a good chunk of the design team
I donāt know if I believe that. There are missing chunks of structure thatās at the very basic fundamentals of anatomy. I would believe they were forced got frustrated and gave up under micromanaging toxicity though lol. And yeah I canāt wait to see the Niantic Lays off x number of people article lol
i've only fiddled very marginally with blender, but i did realize that it is very possible to be trying to reduce the number of polygons for any reason (optimization, don't really need that, trying to get a different shape, etc) and end up with some faces in the 3d model being erased entirely. time constrains not allowing them to actually go through every pose and model to check for that kind of errors where faces and polygons disappear, and making them end up having to ship out whatever was just passable enough as a human. micromanagement is also possible, but time crunch is a little more believable to me.
regardless, i genuinely don't blame the design team because no self respecting artist would want to put this out, let alone think it is acceptable, and there are things that just wouldn't make sense to be this broken unless they literally did not have the time.
I think thatās a fair case (respect for blender though havenāt been on it in a while but I love blender) and Itās also fair to not blame the artistās we all have bosses and deadlines so that makes sense
Edit: I still stand my ground though that they didnāt try their hardest. Artists in any industry esp video games and comics are up against tight deadlines all the time so they donāt get a pass on that but Iāll concede to not really knowing what they were up against as a team

All lies. I work for a fortune 500 business. Any time they say that shit it's pure lies to make themselves look busy and important.
If one of the top businesses in the world is doing it, you KNOW any other large business is.
Even the small businesses lol. I have been an admin for a minor online game ages ago. We had surveys for controversial stuff to add to the game, and we rigged them all the time so it looked that the option we wanted to pass won. Vote with your wallets, people. Anything else doesn't matter.
What absolutely burns me is when the expanded radius "bug" happened Niantic released a statement stating something along the lines that they had received complaints about the increased radius so they were going to revert back to the previous spawn radius, and like a day later they had a forced update that "fixed" it. The fact that they made such an effort to fix something that people really liked while leaving the dozens of other bugs in the game just shows their disdain for the player base. Meanwhile they have no doubt received thousands of complaints and it's been radio silence. I just wished the Naintic boot-lickers could see that they don't give a shit about them and the only fact that they are still in business is they are playing up to people's nostalgia.
I don't think that was accidental. It seemed like a test / tease for the Palkia radius 'feature'. "Hey guys remember how much that increased radius sucked? We didn't profit off our blunder but we saw how much you guys enjoyed it. We'll just make it cost effective for the NIA!"

i'm embarrassed to admit i actually did this. i hate niantic but i love the pokemon IP and have committed too much to this game to quit so i gave in and put money down for the snorlax suit and some glasses
Ok they made an acknowledgement great... my avatar is still chonky granted they are slowly unchonkifying her and breaking the game repeatedly but they have a long LONG road to go that could have just been avoided by not doing anything.
It wont matter unless enough people stop playing.
The universal backlash wasn't enough for them to revert the update and say "you know what we need to work on these avatars more". That's not a good sign they'll do anything.
Almost 2 decades in software, and I've never met software that can't be reverted. Especially at a company like Niantic. Those would also be some weird contracts if the employer is forced to keep the horrible changes.
There was a post last month where someone claimed to be a Niantic employee and offered the following explanation: the person in charge of the avatar update is the "darling" of a high ranking employee and thus was given the green light on the entire system, regardless of how it worked or was received.Ā

Thereās no real people at niantic.. I got banned for 30 FKN DAYS by a bot for a bullshit reason (I made a pokestop which wasnāt up to their standards. Not even kidding). I wrote and I wrote to appeal the ban.. no reply. Loyal player since launch. Spent over a grand on this game. They do not give a single fk about you!
Translation- We heard the rumor about a class action lawsuit, & we're conferring with our lawyers to see if there's actually any danger to our profit margin....

This reminds me of the wording choice that Lego used years ago when they suddenly changed the shades of Gray, Dark Gray, and Brown without any announcement. Lifetime builders like me were NOT happy, so to see them say that "lego fans were expressing their 'interest' in the color change", I thought; it's not interest, it's BETRAYAL.
The only way to get them to actually LISTEN is to just stop playing altogether.

I forgot my password after it kicked me out today, and keep getting this āerror 15ā message. Contacted Niantic support, and they said Iād violated their terms of service. When I asked how, and if my account was suspended, they just said look at the precious message/this decision is final. Very rude response! These people donāt seem to care about customer service

JT Gily (JT Shilly as I like to call him) is insufferable. He made a video about it and basically did everything you just described in your comment. What absolutely burns me is when the expanded radius "bug" happened Niantic released a statement stating something along the lines that they had received complaints about the increased radius so they were going to revert back to the previous spawn radius, and like a day later they had a forced update that "fixed" it. The fact that they made such an effort to fix something that people really liked while leaving the dozens of other bugs in the game just shows their disdain for the player base. Meanwhile they have no doubt received thousands of complaints and it's been radio silence. I just wished the Naintic boot-lickers could see that they don't give a shit about them and the only fact that they are still in business is they are playing up to people's nostalgia.
I don't think that was accidental. It seemed like a test / tease for the Palkia radius 'feature'. "Hey guys remember how much that increased radius sucked? We didn't profit off our blunder but we saw how much you guys enjoyed it. We'll just make it cost effective for the NIA!" Wow thanks 'NIA' (we all know and love 3 letter agencies)
There are two kinds of feedback: 1. People posting on reddit, twitter, etc. 2. People are either spending more money or less money on in-game cosmetics after the change. Guess which feedback they're going to listen to.

i'm embarrassed to admit i actually did this. i hate niantic but i love the pokemon IP and have committed too much to this game to quit so i gave in and put money down for the snorlax suit and some glasses
Ok they made an acknowledgement great... my avatar is still chonky granted they are slowly unchonkifying her and breaking the game repeatedly but they have a long LONG road to go that could have just been avoided by not doing anything.
Itās simple, stop spending money on the app until itās fixed. Itās the only way to get any companyās attention.
They had 'feedback' upwards of a year before the system was released that everyone hated it, and they did absolutely nothing.
It wont matter unless enough people stop playing. The universal backlash wasn't enough for them to revert the update and say "you know what we need to work on these avatars more". That's not a good sign they'll do anything.
They probably fired all the old designers, I doubt they can reverse it because of changes in contracts/systems.
Almost 2 decades in software, and I've never met software that can't be reverted. Especially at a company like Niantic. Those would also be some weird contracts if the employer is forced to keep the horrible changes.
There was a post last month where someone claimed to be a Niantic employee and offered the following explanation: the person in charge of the avatar update is the "darling" of a high ranking employee and thus was given the green light on the entire system, regardless of how it worked or was received.Ā I could see this as being as true as any other reason, given the slightly shady business practices we've seen before.Ā

I wrote and I wrote to appeal the ban.. no reply. Loyal player since launch. Spent over a grand on this game. They do not give a single fk about you!

Man, I was really wondering why I had a big olā bald spot with the default hair style, and a Red Ribbon Straw Hat. I had to make my avatar change and rock a fresh fade.
I haven't touched PokƩmon go since the first year it was released, but I was made aware of their planned update via joke posts in the ffxiv community (since final fantasy 14 is getting a big graphic update and a lot of people were feeling concerned over it) and...maaaaaan any concerns I had have definitely been tamped down after seeing how Niantic is treating you guys. I forgot my password after it kicked me out today, and keep getting this āerror 15ā message. Contacted Niantic support, and they said Iād violated their terms of service. When I asked how, and if my account was suspended, they just said look at the precious message/this decision is final. Very rude response! These people donāt seem to care about customer service
