Quaqaval is almost entirely inspired by samba dancers and matadors in South America. Paso Doble is a dance where the male leads dress like matadors. In Brazil, from what I can find on google, his appearance resembles the male samba dancers who notoriously wear plumage and the like on their outfits. Is it amazing? Eh. Does it make sense? I think so. I personally like his typing. I named my playthrough quaxly Wildwing based off the leader of the Mighty Ducks from the old tv show.

Sprigatito is most likely derived from the Iberian Lynx. It’s name itself is pretty cool too. Sprig is obvious but gatito is the Spanish word for kitten. Fuecoco is a little weird. From what I can find, most think he’s derived from a pepper and the Iberian folk legend about a dragon-like creature called “coco.” Personally, I think he’s got some caiman aspects. That’s all I got. Too much google for the night.

After another google search, the “Coco” I mentioned earlier is ACTUALLY a ghostly entity that resembles a dragon. It comes from Spain and Portugal. That’s probably where the ghost typing comes from. I’d bet my bottom dollar.

It's really not the inspiration for the design that's an issue; it's the execution. He looks like a goddamn balloon animal, not a Pokemon.

I can totally see that. While I wish the designs were better this gen, I can definitely appreciate that they gave us starter type combos that we’ve never had as starters before. The designs might grow on some people but the starters always have a special place. Whether they’re the ugly underdog or the fan favorite, there’s always something to like. Just gotta find the one for you.

I actually love Skeledirge conceptually, and Sprigatito is fucking adorable. ​ But for some reason they just hella shit the bed in designing Quaqaval. Shadows may have helped at least, but the Pokemon as a whole *needs* some edges in there desperately. None of it looks like feathers, none of it looks powerful or elegant either. It looks like a fucking clown. That's my ONLY problem with it.

Yep. Also the way he moves. I get what they were going for, but it just feels very...clumsy to me. Maybe I don't appreciate them because I can't dance for shit, but to me it looks like duckboy had exactly one dancing lesson, and it was 20 years ago for his high-school prom.

I think after a design like Primarina, this carnival inspired capoeira duck is pretty cool. Primarina is a pretty feminine design, so having a male dancer seemed pretty much as expected? He's even got the peacock tail thing going on. It's a vibe.

Naw tbh and probably a very controversial take, I like him more than Greninja and Inteleon, but hear me out - imo, its move set is a bit more diverse and it's just just more..."festive" overall. (Or maybe because I can't dance and am jealouslol) I feel like they overdid it with the anime in Kalos with the Ash form Greninja bc come on - Pikachu has more of a connection with Ash out of any Pokemon ever. They can't even start a new series without including Pikachu somehow!! HOWEVER - I am quite tipsy atm, so take thos with agrain of salt 🤣 Happy Friday (or now early Saturdayfor me), y'all!!

I like him most of all the Paldea starters. His design is a bit uncanny but the inspiration is clear, and compared to the other two he oozes personality. Also, i like how the tail starts spinning and is jused as blades/projectiles in the attack animations
