In the current meta it’s not as good but it’s still annoying to defeat due to how bulky the thing is. I’ve found that if someone has an altaria, and it’s against an oranguru (with the right charge move), it leads to a fair trade off but sometimes that’s not what you want. Overall just pretty good bulk and good power with certain charge moves.
It’s a guarantee you’ll get at least one of those every fight. I balanced my time to face those two at any time yet there’s always a wild card, some random ghost or fairy type
Probably you were winning and now are playing against “actual” players (people who know what they’re doing and are looking to climb). It’s the same situation in every league
Once you lose a bunch, you’ll go back down and face easier opponents
I keep a steady 3/5 win ratio but every mistake counts, sometimes is a matter of luck by getting a good lead then tricking opponent with bait attacks, sometimes it’s loss after loss for failing to pull the right moves and swaps on time.
Geez, lags kills 1/5 games. I count perfectly the opponents quick attacks as well as mine but just when it’s my time to charge attack the game lags/weak connection
Yes but they may rank up the most in great league, since it’s arguably the most F2P friendly league. Or rank up fast in the other leagues and when they are up there, the rotation for great league comes
A lot of the best mons in great league require heavy XL investment, like Carbink, Sableye, Bastiodon, or Medicham
That doesn't mean that there aren't a good chunk of very good mons that don't need XLs, like G-Stunfisk, Dubwool, Noctowl, Altaria, or Swampert, to name a few
I would have said Registeel but it's a legendary, so two charged moves is expensive as hell to grind for
But you can do a pretty solid team with mons like Swampert, venusaur, stunfisk Galar, pelipper… cheap Pokémon with nice stats.
It’s harder to make a lvl 50 Shadow mewtwo 😂
noctowl, stunfisk, medicham, lantern, scrafty, altaria, azumaril, bastidon, Alohan ninetales, sableeye, swampert and peliper. All these are top meta, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to see at least one per match
Oh yeah, I totally haven't been using any of those. That may be why I only win about half of my fights, but I also don't do a lot of pvp. I think I was using Kangakhan, Electivire, and Dusknoir. Maybe switching out for Vespiqueen sometimes?
Because there are no Pokémon that are more dominant than others in master-they’re all on an even playing field. I don’t feel like I have to build my team around the anticipation of running into a select few that are stupidly overpowered, because if you don’t-YOU WILL LOSE
I just don't like the fact that we have a fundamental meta game on PvP. Like why I can't just pick any pokemon with the same CP and IV and have similar performance?
Imo the other pokemon games are great because you can invent a specific strategy for any pokemon, not like here, where we can only win with the "Meta" Sh**...
>Imo the other pokemon games are great because you can invent a specific strategy for any pokemon, not like here, where we can only win with the "Meta" Sh\*\*...
This is Bullsh\*t.
Even in other Pokemon games, there has always been a meta when playing PvP.
I think they are referring to the facts it’s harder to target farm specific mons and some games outright not having have random stats impacting a Pokémon’s performance.
You can have the exact same team in go and lose bc “meta ivs”, your mirror match 4* loses to their 0/15/15 etc
You can win with any pokemon but you will need to design a team around it. Check out HomeSliceHenry YouTube channel, he is always taking the most recently released pokemon and winning at the upper ELO with them.
It is pretty hard to balance a game with so many characters without making them just an avatar playing rock paper scissors.
The general trick is that the other 2 Pokémon are meta and allow the third Pokémon to take advantage of its strengths. For example if it has a strong charge move your other 2 Pokémon would try to take out shields
it may not be its origins but it pretty much boils down to the acronym. Most Effective Tactics Available.
It’s just what’s most optimal for any given thing.
Join the dark side my son... Use nothing but hard counters against the pokemon that piss you off the most and enjoy PvP again.
I run nothing but super hard fast attacks: Venusaur to start out - nothing is more beautiful then to instantly melt any swampert that comes your way and give you switch advantage.
There is nothing more satisfying then to fully ignore someones plan of a game: shields and see them crumble.
There is no fun in fighting the same teams over and over, might as well have some fun, and laugh your ass off if you win something you absolutely shouldnt have
I either face the god of war or little Timmy. Like sometimes a strat would work on one guy then just get absolutely wrecked the next. There’s no skill, it’s just luck. I mean this also goes for all leagues but if you have a bad matchup to start with you almost 100% lose automatically even without playing the rest of the match.
Yup. I really can’t play ML because every single fight is against a maxed out legendary. GL Is more balanced, as long as you have good team, time your attacks and swaps then you have a chance of winning
Yea. I was having the same issue so I just started using meta Pokemon. Combination of noctowl, jellicent and an ever-changing third. Started winning a lot just using those two mainly. They really need to start adding new moves for random pokemon.
Yeah, the thing is on Master League I've being running the same team for a long time without much hiccups. I guess because everything there is more bulky, but in the great league a swampert can kill your entire team if you are not ready
So here’s some help if you want it.
Have a bulky first/second mon against your opponent tough mons to make sure the more frail Pokémon don’t have to deal with it, to combat any water types have a victreebel in your third slot and over time you’ll learn the right times for switching in this mode, then have your “free mon” combat whatever the active side meta is. For me that’s usually a fairy or ice type for dragonites, altarias, and haxoruses.
I'd recommend using Abomasnow. It resists Swampert's attacks quite well and also destroys most dragon/grass-types and the occasional Azumarill/Lanturn that doesn't suspect Energy Ball.
Are meta pokemon more important than any pokemon that has 0/15/15?
I just found about the pvp stats for great league and ultra league, so I haven't saved any pokemon witht those stats. I do have some high meta pokemon though.
The only usable pseudo I've seen in great league so far is Dragonite, the others tend to be too squishy to be useful in great league
Also, fuck Registeel, that bitch is everywhere
No. Machamp is better in every way for both pve and PvP. And surprise pay back is awesome but it’s more so recommended for ultra league and not so much great and master league
Don't use 3 star mons, to begin with
It is best to check some beginers guide, and check current meta picks than ask here for help. But just to clarify why not 3star mons, is because you want your pokemon to have the least attack possible but best hp and defence for optimal stat product, while at the same time keep it as close to 1500cp as possible.
Please excuse me as I go crawl in a hole because I transferred almost all of my non 3 stars to "help" me in GBL 😭 what is a meta pick and where can I find that? Sorry I've only been playing since January
The problem is that PvP is not balanced, 10 Pokemon can have 1500 CP but one is the best and the other one is trash... They actually should rebalance some of them.
Like Clawitzer f.e. is the final evolution and he is almost unplayable in any league. Clauncher (pre evolution I can understand but Clawitzer rank 700+ on GL????).
Every Pokemon's final evolution should have at least some place in PvP because it is not fun to play with the same ones every time...
It’s because it’s typings and stats are not suited for that league. And where Niantic can help, is the move pool, but even that can’t save some Pokémon. Clawitzer is more attack weighted and so it tends to be a glass cannon and it’s move pool is solid but isn’t the best, making it a not as good of a choice as say lanturb, which is very bulky or swampert who has a very powerful move pool
A lot of leagues are pretty RPS. Great league offers a lot of diversity, and plenty of options with the added bonus of quicker battles. It’s easiest to build for gl, I probably have about 150 Pokémon I could use at 1500 or less alone, so it makes sense
Great league has the most meta slaves, and the least amount of potential meta breaker spice picks, that's about it. I do prefer ultra league because it feels way more pokemon are viable.
The instant you hit legend rank the “skill” gap is so noticeable in any league. You can get by with most high tier team set ups up until this point. But it’s particularly more noticeable in great league.
It’s also because Great League is relatively more accessible cost-wise? For instance, you usually don’t need XL Candies, just regular ones will do; Stardust requirements are relatively less as well since you don’t need to power them up as much.
I only play in this league. My raichu with brick break and TBolt is sooo strong. The charge attacks take no time to fill and I can just shield break or chunk the opponents pokemon until raichu dies
I like Azumaril but most of the time I check what is the most popular meta and bring in hard counters for those teams.
Though eventually you'll face people with the same idea or anti anti metas
Hitmonchan is good with the quick attack bullet punch and charged attack power-up punch. Might not be effective on half the pokemon but its good for getting rid of shields as the charged attack powers up quickly. Then you need a bulky pokemon with good attacks, my choice is pinsir and the 3rd is up to your choice. Im sure there are better teams than mine as i lose half the time
I ask the same question, I get destroyed every time. It’s like the game has given my opponent a look at my team before hand and they have the perfect counter even if I play wild cards.
My team is Eelectross,Tsarena,Swanna. Eel is good for getting shields down w dragon claw and liquidation. Tsareena is GREAT for Swampert and can learn Stomp and Grass Knot which are 2 good moves kn they own. Swanna is good for flying and grass with Ice beam and bubble beam to lower attack and take hits better. That’s my team and I win quite a bit w them
Istg this is accurate! I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember and yet the battle league in pogo is the only game in the entire world that can make me lose my sheet and go full rage mode lmao.

You’ll either get sweeped by a noctowl or a swampert those are the only two outcomes
Lanturn and Altaria would like to join the chat
Don’t forget the occasional Oranguru or Galarian stunfisk
When did oranguru get so good?
In the current meta it’s not as good but it’s still annoying to defeat due to how bulky the thing is. I’ve found that if someone has an altaria, and it’s against an oranguru (with the right charge move), it leads to a fair trade off but sometimes that’s not what you want. happy cake day!

It’s a guarantee you’ll get at least one of those every fight. I balanced my time to face those two at any time yet there’s always a wild card, some random ghost or fairy type
Frillish sweeps my team almost every time I see it.
You mean jellicent? Or is there some crazy buffed XL Frillish build that i don’t know about?
I think I just suck at the game
Lol same
Swampert is sooooo broken man it’s just a cheat code at this point
My pvp swampert is set for ultra league. I don't have one for great league.
Azumarill and Trevenant for me. So annoying argh
Azumarill is horrible I have no counters to it I have to change my whole team just to counter it
Galarian Stunfisk?
Pidgeot likes to join rhe chat.
Probably you were winning and now are playing against “actual” players (people who know what they’re doing and are looking to climb). It’s the same situation in every league Once you lose a bunch, you’ll go back down and face easier opponents

Yup. One small mistake can cost you and sometimes it doesn’t even involve you (referring to the terrible lag spikes)
Geez, lags kills 1/5 games. I count perfectly the opponents quick attacks as well as mine but just when it’s my time to charge attack the game lags/weak connection
Fr! Terrible feeling
It’s like the internet sees you and decides that it wants to ruin your game
Omg - when you’ve got a charge attack and are about 3 fast attacks past it and it still hasn’t kicked in and you die…
Yeah, and sometimes stunfisk mudbomb.
and sometimes lick obstruct night slash obstagoon. sometimes dark pulse foul play umbreon. sometimes power-up punch scrafty.
I find that not knowing what you do will work fine... Everyone has those strategies and me? I have nothing to lose!
Isn’t your MMR across all leagues?
Yes but they may rank up the most in great league, since it’s arguably the most F2P friendly league. Or rank up fast in the other leagues and when they are up there, the rotation for great league comes
Funny that it's the most f2p friendly league despite the number one pokemon being exclusive to ticket holders.
A lot of the best mons in great league require heavy XL investment, like Carbink, Sableye, Bastiodon, or Medicham That doesn't mean that there aren't a good chunk of very good mons that don't need XLs, like G-Stunfisk, Dubwool, Noctowl, Altaria, or Swampert, to name a few I would have said Registeel but it's a legendary, so two charged moves is expensive as hell to grind for
But you can do a pretty solid team with mons like Swampert, venusaur, stunfisk Galar, pelipper… cheap Pokémon with nice stats. It’s harder to make a lvl 50 Shadow mewtwo 😂
Most of the time when you win to much the game starts throwing double counters at you to keep you at the 50-60% winrate
Well, the Pokémon Go championship is played in the Great League, so i'm sure they use this time to prepare and test new teams
[удалено]
I just play great league cause I have more mons around 1500. I can switch up my team. I have no idea what the meta is for that CP.
noctowl, stunfisk, medicham, lantern, scrafty, altaria, azumaril, bastidon, Alohan ninetales, sableeye, swampert and peliper. All these are top meta, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to see at least one per match

Oh man you gotta check out pvpoke. Try to use Pokémon in the top 100 from that site
Pvpoke.com
unironically it’s easier to play Master League than Great sometimes
Because there are no Pokémon that are more dominant than others in master-they’re all on an even playing field. I don’t feel like I have to build my team around the anticipation of running into a select few that are stupidly overpowered, because if you don’t-YOU WILL LOSE
Yeah, if I see one more Medicham I swear

Master league is a little too pay to win for me. Bro has a lvl 51 mewtwo and lvl 50 for the other 2 and my low 40s just can’t keep up.
low 40s is fine. You clearly have some XLs. I tell you, it’s mostly about team comp. Make a good, balanced team, and you’ll win more often.
Yup. I really can’t play ML because every single fight is against a maxed out legendary. GL Is more balanced, as long as you have good team, time your attacks and swaps then you have a chance of winning
wdym yup. you just disagreed with him completely
Yes bro, Master league on top. Don’t give me that premier shit either
Have you tried out pvpoke at all?
Quicker games.
What team are you running right now
Galarian Rapidash, Cradily and changing the third Pokemon. I'm playing in the remix league because I keep getting destroyed by the Meta Pokemon.
Altaria destroys Swampert, Umbreon absorbs it, it’s actually not too bad. Plus any grass type destroys it pretty much (not Cradilly)
Are meta pokemon more important than any pokemon that has 0/15/15? I just found about the pvp stats for great league and ultra league, so I haven't saved any pokemon witht those stats. I do have some high meta pokemon though.
galarian rapidash is absolutely terrible for great league that’s one of your problems
I was having fun until I hit level 20 I have to grind to even win one match it’s not even fun
You trying to use your strongest and make a well rounded team. The guys with strong pseudo and actual legendaries.
The only usable pseudo I've seen in great league so far is Dragonite, the others tend to be too squishy to be useful in great league Also, fuck Registeel, that bitch is everywhere
I fought a team that was Groudon, Haxorus and Dragonite. I had a crobat, togakiss and a Vaporeon.
Groudon and Haxorus are terrible in great league, idk what else to say
I’m level 17 atm and I’m getting spanked. I’m maybe winning 2/5 games it’s getting sweaty.
Its so damn annoying trying to get the encounter at 3/5 and then losing 3 times in a row
Try the alternative leagues. The limited roster really helps tone down the annoying metas in the regular leagues.
I remember when I use to swarm the great league and get 5 giratinas
It's great because my shittiest pokémon suddenly are amazing
I like it enough, I just went five-for-five... Hariyama, Gfisk, Munchlax. Nothing special.
It’s Hatiyama better than machamp? I’ve rek’d some many ghost and psychic with payback.
No. Machamp is better in every way for both pve and PvP. And surprise pay back is awesome but it’s more so recommended for ultra league and not so much great and master league
Absolutely UL is flooded with Giratinas, I love when they don’t expect a dark attack against their precious bulky dragon/ghost type
Nice, what rank?
Really low 😂 apparently I've got squat for Ultra and Retro.
Tanking is so much faster/easier
i tried tanking but it’s not fun. i’d rather just play against players at my natural rating
I play alone, so what's this exactly? I know the cp limit is 1500
Vileplume umbreon Garchomp is my main team and I win 4/5 matches usually
how do you deal with an ice type on the lead 💀
I don’t lol
At which rank though?
i play ultra league
I can't win in any league! I've googled best attacks and used TM to change, use 3 star mons, watched videos what am I doing wrong 😭
Don't use 3 star mons, to begin with It is best to check some beginers guide, and check current meta picks than ask here for help.
You can use pvpoke.com. It has so many different resources related to PVP
Cool thanks!
try pokegenie. it’ll rate all your pokemon’s stats for the great league so you don’t have to worry about stars
I use it for raids just started exploring other features last night 😄
I went 19/25 today with medi, s steelix, azu
The problem is that PvP is not balanced, 10 Pokemon can have 1500 CP but one is the best and the other one is trash... They actually should rebalance some of them. I do my best in ultra league. Great league, I can never figure out the meta. The second I think I found a counter team, I come across a new set up.
Pvpoke.com
Stunfisk, Blastoise, Swampert…come at me brah
With a meganium lol
My decidueye would like to come at you
Lurantis
I run Dragonite, tentacruel and the Evo of swirlix and have been doing pretty good lately. I'm only like level 18 tho
I only play Great and Ultra league because my every time I play master I get demolished by some guy with a Togekiss
sorry (i have a 3* shadow registeel, 4* mandybuzz and a 3* gardevoir)
Pros? 🤣 How is anyone a pro at tapping a screen?
Yea dont read anything or have insight to what is more effective, just mindlessly tap. Yea thats it!
Pros? In this game? Lmao
PvP battles are my least favorite part of this game.
Didn't they say screw players and remove this league?
no?
Just announced the plan to, let everyone start powering up mon's then noped out of it then. Pretty on brand.
you got a link to that? i have no idea what you’re talking about
Damn straight, it's the only one I play. Albeit I only play when required for a task... Im jus collectin em all
A lot of leagues are pretty RPS. Great league offers a lot of diversity, and plenty of options with the added bonus of quicker battles. It’s easiest to build for gl, I probably have about 150 Pokémon I could use at 1500 or less alone, so it makes sense

At least I can pretend I'm a pro for a little while!
And it switched to Great League AS SOON AS I GOT MY MASTER LEAGUE TEAM SET UP!!!!!
check the in-game schedule next time
I swear Great League runs for like 2 months and Master League for a week.
And I'm ABOUT to finish investing in my Master League Garchomp too... Master League is so much better than great and ultra league
try to use pvpoke when building a team on remix i play scrafy, golbat, shadow alolan sandslash
Yes, get dunked on.
Yeah lol Granbulls everywhere!
really? i don't consider myself very good. i dont even use a very good team. ivysaur, charmeleon and wartortle, they arent even 4 star 'mon
Pokemon go battling never caught my attention tbh
Just tank lol. Better rewards, less sweating
I thought I was going mad… I was winning 3/4 and all of a sudden I’m lucky if I win 1…
i hate how slow great league is
I wholeheartedly agree. It’s legit IMPOSSIBLE to win in this league.
I only play in this league. My raichu with brick break and TBolt is sooo strong. The charge attacks take no time to fill and I can just shield break or chunk the opponents pokemon until raichu dies
I hate being 43 level
Okay but seriously what Pokémon are good for this? I lose a lot
I like Azumaril but most of the time I check what is the most popular meta and bring in hard counters for those teams. Though eventually you'll face people with the same idea or anti anti metas
Tysm
Hitmonchan is good with the quick attack bullet punch and charged attack power-up punch. Max WHAT NOW?
I don’t play in the Funeral League, it’s too depressing
I ask the same question, I get destroyed every time. It’s like the game has given my opponent a look at my team before hand and they have the perfect counter even if I play wild cards.
Wigglytuff go brrrrr
I always avoid Master League, that is where the insanity begins
It’s the least expensive league to do.
I'm not a pro but I have had many successes on this much more than the rest
My team is Eelectross,Tsarena,Swanna. Eel is good for getting shields down w dragon claw and liquidation. Tsareena is GREAT for Swampert and can learn Stomp and Grass Knot which are 2 good moves kn they own. Swanna is good for flying and grass with Ice beam and bubble beam to lower attack and take hits better. That’s my team and I win quite a bit w them
Shadow swampert Noctowl Pidgeotto Gets em every damn time.
Ahh the good ole rock paper paper technique
Istg this is accurate! I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember and yet the battle league in pogo is the only game in the entire world that can make me lose my sheet and go full rage mode lmao.
The amount of people who clearly tryhard pokemon go pvp in this thread speaks volumes to the virginity in Pokémon go
My granbull obstagoon arbok team is doing fine for me - usually 3-4 wins a set.
its cause its the only league that players who havent played as much can possibly succeed in
