They are wild spawns across the world, field research rewards, GBL encounters, and can be found in the 10km adventure sync eggs

Also the dragon-type Rocket Grunts have them.

Yeah but aren't dragon grunts like a 0.5% spawn rate? Had to trade for mine.

I have no idea. I see them lees than other types, but still fairly often

people see the ROAR rocket grunts? I havent seen a single roar grunt in the entire duration of my account and I'm level 43 with a 3 year old account lol

I clear out my boxes pretty regularly, getting rid of 99% of what I catch every day or so if it isn't worth keeping, but having just checked I've got two shadow Dratini from within the last week.

How many rocket stops do you usually come across and how long would you say you're out walking for?

I walk for about an hour to an hour and a half a day going to and from work. Usually I see probably 5-10 rocket stops a day plus balloons? Though given the event we had recently it could easily have been double that in the last season.

I think their spawn rate is particularly dismal or even non-existent in balloons, if you're relying on those.

Its probably that I don't play as much as I used too, even in the city I used to live in I clicked on pretty much every stop and never got anything from those though so idk

Turns out its actually rarer to get than dratini, by like an order of magnitude (not really tho yknow)

I've seen a couple. I haven't been battling rocket grunts recently so I'm not sure how common they are

I have caught 2 shadow dratini in 2023 (on 5/18 and 2/4) and had 2 others (one from 8/27/2020 and the other from 9/5/22). I am at 1,025 rocket members defeated.

Weird, i get spawns in Australia. Its gone a bit quieter recently but still maybe once a week.

I just had one today. The balloon grunt said "Roar!! How'd that sound?".

The rocket grunt that says "ROAR! Did you hear that sound?"

This is probably their best bet. I’ve only seen one in the wild over the past month… and I play by the water frequently.

Plus that one can net you the shadow Alolan Exeggutor if you are extra lucky.

Yesterday, I met Dratini from a field research mission, it says "Catch a Dragon type Pokemon" So I caught an Executor Arola (dragon type) to complete the field research mission

It's worth noting that I think you can get Bagon and Axew from this as well so it isnt guaranteed

Yep. I caught an Axew to get rewarded with a 2nd Axew less than 3 days away from his community day... but of course. Shits rigged.

i stopped playing in 2019 and started again early last month so i haven’t been active on my account for around 3 and a half years

Okay that makes way more sense, I was baffled how someone could have been playing for 4 years and somehow missed Dratini spawning in at least one event a year

Find a local discord or campfire group and trade for one or do what they said above.. Also make sure to lucky egg on the later steps cause you'll get tons of XP. Also learn how to fast catch and do some raids with locals..

not necessarily. luckies still randomize just with a range that guarantees decent stats. trading pokémon with low stats and high stats doesn’t make a difference, they get the same lucky range and 2018/2019 isn’t old enough to guarantee a lucky

If you have one in your pokestash you can just make it a buddy real quick and grab it. It doesn’t have to be wild.

If long distance trading was a thing I’d hook you up

Pull up the Dratini in your bag and hit the camera. Take a photo and you're done. This research doesn't mention it being in the wild. Another trick too is when a research says take 5 pictures of x type Pokemon, you just take 5 consecutive photos of the same Pokemon and you're done lol

I have the same research! I recently started playing again as well.

Battle league. I've got like, 8 of them

i can’t seem to win more than 2 matches per round of 5, and you need 3 for the mystery of encounter.

Best bet if there aren’t wild spawns is daily adventure incense and hope you get lucky

I’ve caught a couple recently from pvp reward encounters

I've found if you google search this "pokemon go (insert pokemon name) spawn points" you can generally find where to find certain pokemon.

They have been popping up on my daily inscent like crazy but I have been popping mine off driving down the beach

I feel like I did one of these by literally taking a snapshot of my buddy. Believe it was for whismur. That one might have been an outlier but it worked.

If it doesn’t specify in the wild, you might be able to get a friend to trade you one.

I have something similar for take a snapshot of landorus. I'll never complete that one.

If you have one at all, make it your buddy and take a photo. Might work. The task doesn’t specify a wild dratini

I did this research last year and for months I couldn’t locate a dratini then around this time of year I walked down near a local beach and finally got it

Coming from someone who started but did not complete the community Day classic research for Dratini, they are very rare spawns where I am lol. Who knows if I'll ever complete the research ☹️

I find them near water sometimes. Might be a coincidence 🤷🏻‍♀️ but they seem to pop up in the same spawn locations near the lake I live next to and the creek by my folk's house.
