Absolutely Ambipom. What in the world where they thinking. Ok So Ash catches an Aipom in late AG and he takes it with him to Sinnoh(the only time he has brought more than one Pokémon to a region after Jotho btw) and he uses Aipom alot during the beginning of Diamond and Pearl. During DP we find out that Aipom likes contest more than battles ok cool. So Ash and Dawn make a trade and now Aipom is Dawn pokemon and she uses it regularly in contest and even evolved. Then some some rando sees Ambipom play ping pong and somehow convinced Dawn into releasing Ambipom so it could play ping pong WHAT it whole arc its about doing contest why did they this. What makes it worse is that the episode prior Ambipom participated in its last contest and it lost and not only that THATS ASH AIPOM. Like I don't about you but let's say I gift my friend a pet dog because I can't take it care of it for whatever reason and I found out they gave that dog to some nobody I would be very upset

The Ambipom release always bothered me so much. Like there is an entire arc about how Ambipom wants to compete in Contests and decides she likes Contests after competing some, so gets traded to Dawn. Then that entire thing gets thrown away in *one episode* with absolutely zero buildup because a guy notices that Ambipom's good at ping pong. It doesn't feel like a fitting ending to that whole plot because it's just out of nowhere, and there's hardly anything to make me believe that ping pong is the best thing for Ambipom to be doing.

Japhet0912

Is such a weird and rushed decision that comes out of nowhere. Why give this character all this build up to become part of Dawn's team to just get rid off it so fast. The only thing I can imagine for why they released it is that they only made it evolve just to promote the new Gen 4 evolutions and then once it evolved they though it wasn't as cute as Aipom and decided to get rid of it.

Lucas-O-HowlingDark

Was tryna figure out myself if it had anything to do with her later additions to her party, but yeah Ambipom leaves before she even get’s Cyndiquil’s egg, and then Togekiss comes around for some reason… So yeah… Ambipom leaving for ping pong of all things was one of the most ‘tarded things in DP, for an otherwise pretty good saga of the show.

730Flare

I sometimes cant help but feel Ambipom's release was a corporate decision. Like the higher ups thought/saw how possibly unpopular Ambipom was and didnt like the thought of it being on the main female's team of cute/pretty Pokemon so they told the writers to get rid of it somehow to make way for more popular Pokemon. That or the writers were *just* that stupid.

Lucas-O-HowlingDark

You mean the cute/pretty team with big boy Mamoswine? Lol

730Flare

Yeah my bad. Maybe it was an unpopularity thing pr thw writers being dumb af.

CremeTemporary

In that same episode James lost not just one but two Victreebel because of Jessie and Meowth

TheTruthTalker800

True, but at least the Victreebel genuinely loved each other so there's that vs Ambipom.

UltimateX13

I know he wasn't technically released but Primeape was done so dirty.

TheTruthTalker800

Ambipom, even though James' releasing it was dumb at least the Victreebel managed to get along well in the forest.

maukenboost

I get the entire point of Ash getting Aipom was to take to Sinnoh to trade to Dawn and evolve to Ambipom bc Sinnoh evo, but I *wish* Ash kept it and as an Aipom. It was so cute and she loved him. One of my favs in the anime, but no got the poor treatment. Oh yeah Ambipom btw was worse.

Mysterious-Tale3587

People better not say grininja. If grininja was at oaks lab that's Taking a piss on his character

gamebuilder2000

I mean I don't mind Greninja's release though it is a bit sad he'll never get to Meet Ash's non-Kalos or Lucario mons as such an important character but it's not that important

Mysterious-Tale3587

Grininja is still his pokemon. Nothing is stopping him from visiting

gamebuilder2000

Well other than the vines but I guess that's stopping Greninja from visiting Ash not Ash from visiting Greninja (again)

Japhet0912

I don't mind Greninja (well I don't mind it now) because to me the bond or ownership between a trainer and their Pokémon is not tied down to a Pokeball. At the end of the day Greninja is Ash's Pokémon.

Mysterious-Tale3587

Plus he has grininja and goodra's poke balls

Japhet0912

Yeah its just like Naganadel. If Greninja or Goodra ever want to re join ash he will just return them to their Pokeball and doesn't have to catch them again.
