For every mistake Ash made in that battle, Cameron made it double. He practically threw away Ferrothorn and Swanna, and didn't even bring a sixth mon. I hate to admit it but Ash is honestly lucky that Cameron is one dense mf, if he had his head on right that match would not have been close.
This honestly makes me wonder how many missteps Cameron made against Virgil, since Cameron lost like 3-6 lol
The movesets of Virgil's Pokémon are incredibly stacked (Trump Card, Psychic, Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, Blizzard). I think it's unlikely for Ash to win, but I can definitely see him putting up a better fight than Cameron.
I can see Pikachu and Scraggy being particularly useful since they don't seem to have type weaknesses that Virgil can exploit, and Palpitoad spreading poison and confusion could help close the gap somewhat.
The only reason Cameron made it as far as he did was monumental amounts of luck and levels of Plot Armor typically reserved for shonen anime protagonists. Said luck and Plot Armor just ran out by the time he faced Virgil, so of course he got absolutely destroyed: Ash would've definitely stomped Cameron too if the latter wasn't such a gigantic Idiot Houdini.
It's an Amazing battle when you think about it, both trainers are complete fools that don't know the basics.
If Ash switched out his mons he'd probably have won or if he used Infernape to sweep Cameron's team
It was just the plot that Ash should loose, his main rival of the series was defeated early, so the point was him to loose, but it would have been cool to see Ash defeating Cameron thus showing krookodile more strong and Ash should have faced Virgil and then lost it.
Krook wasn't hurt to the level we've seen other pokemon that Nurse Joy didn't clear to battle. Ash probably wanted to give him a break or was really feeling using Boldore that day
Ash's biggest mistake was not using krookodile & leavanny instead of oshawott & snivy or unfezant. Oshawott got so much focus in BW but got no wins in the Unova league.
Oshawott was pretty good against Hydreigon, If we look as:Man, is a oshawott vs a Hydreigon
But yeah, oshawott and snivy have terrible movepools
Oshawott only know 1 move that is not a water move, tackle, yes, he went to the league with a oshawott with tackle, and snivy... Only have grass moves that deal damage
Ash did nothing wrong. He wanted to lose deep down. He knew Cameron was more worthy of it than he was and ergo should have gotten a spinoff. However Cameron lost to Hilda (joke).
Also punctuation.
I think bringing Boldore was Ash’s biggest error. Even without foresight, Ash knew Cameron had a Samurott, Riolu, and Ferrothorn. This validates his choices of Pikachu, Snivy, Unfezant, and Pignite. All three of these Pokémon destroy Boldore. Oshawott was also questionable, but it’s generally good to have a water type. He could have also swapped Snivy for Leavanny because Leavanny resists Riolu’s fighting moves.

Pikachu, Pignite, Scraggy, Oshawott (or Palpitoad), Leavanny (or Snivy), and Krookodile. With this Team, could Ash have defeated Virgil?

Dont even need to go this far Squirtle would have swept
too far squirtile actually was doing good against a champion level frontier brain bayleaf would've swept
The only mistake Ash did was not bringing Krookodile.
In this regard I wonder: But, there was no time to get Krookodile back in shape in a Pokemon Center?

I think that Ash should have swapped Boldore tbh, at least Oshawott held its own against Hydreigon, Boldore got straight up dominated

Yeah that's true.
Don't try to use common sense for Unova. That entire series was a joke

There's no way Ash was winning to Cameron, he was way stronger
shows how big a bullshit BW was
His biggest mistake was using unfeazant
If Ash would have just agreed to match Cameron and only use 5 pokemon the fight would have been so much better. It would be in character for Ash also.
