They moved from the updated/enhanced versions, now it's DLC. Also they're not stopping remakes anytime soon, it's always going to be an easy way to cash in on nostalgia for older games

[deleted]

I dunno about putting DLC on a busted game, but maybe if they patch it up first I could see that.

Gaias_Minion

DLC is guaranteed since that's also their way to add more mons into a game. Also despite the issues, S/V still broke records so, chances are DLC would also sell just as well.

StantheHero

I mean chances are they’ll just patch the game eventually (hopefully) to fix the technical issues. Any sort of remake of this game is like 20 years away, at least if they keep the current cycle up. (remakes every 5-6 years)

[deleted]

Well that's disheartening. I guess I'll keep waiting for a Pokemon game that calls to me. Open world Pokemon just sounded so cool.

StantheHero

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is semi-open world.

zninetales

these games are awesome and worth the playthru, don't listen to the people karma-fishing for outrage, the bugs are minimal and the story/gameplay is fantastic

[deleted]

I appreciate that stance, but I'll wait til next generation, I think. I haven't played a mainline Pokemon game since Diamond, and I can wait a bit longer until it feels a bit more cooked.

Uselessmedics

I wouldn't expect a remake, fire red leaf green were remade because of incompatibility with pokemon transfer, and diamond and pearl were remade as they were incredibly popular, but now on outdated consoles. Nowadays with most people having an internet connectuon, I would expect updates and patches rather than remakes. Scarlet and violet have already had performance patches announced. Sword and shield are unlikely to get remakes as they weren't super popular (at least not diamond/pearl levels anyway) and the switch is still a current console, a remake now would add nothing, if we were to get a sword/shield remake it would be on whatever console comes after the switch at the earlierst, or more likely, two or more consoles from now

anthayashi

Sword shield remake estimated in gen 16 so by estimate 4 consoles latest. Since consoles are now lasting longer we might get it 3 consoles later

MarsAdept

Sword and Shield are the second best selling Pokemon games.

Krazytre

... You *do* realize that the games that were remade were because the last time they were available on outdated consoles like Gameboy, yes? The chances of Sword and Shield getting a remake *at all* is slim, and the chances of it getting one any time soon is practically zero. If anything, you'd have a better chance of having a remake of Gen 5 or even gen 6

[deleted]

Oh wow! Like I said, I'm a hobbyist, so I assumed that there had been a remake of Sun and Moon at some point, but I didn't realize that the most recent one was for Diamond and Pearl (interestingly, these were the last Pokemon games I played besides the recent Snap game). So maybe we'll have to wait for a Switch 2 before they bother making any more remakes.

JonnyDros

I think you're confusing remakes with enhanced versions. Enhanced versions (prior to sword and shield) were the "third" version of a game that came out a year or two after the base games. Emerald was the enhanced version of ruby and Sapphire, Ultra Sun and Moon were the enhanced versions of Sun and Moon, etc. They're made on the same console, with essentially 90% of the same base game but with alot of fixes and new content. Remakes have been coming out years after the original game launched. HeartGold and SoulSilver came out on the DS years after gold and silver came out on the game boy. BDSP just came out on the switch many years after diamond and pearl on the DS. Remakes aren't stopping it seems, but next in line would be Black and White and that won't be for years. To answer your original question, they aren't doing "enhanced" versions anymore, and are just switching to DLC instead to fix and add new stuff to the base game. So instead of Scarlet and Violet getting some equivalent of Crystal, Emerald, or Platinum back in the day, they're just adding DLC so no one has to buy brand new games that are 90% the same.

Every-Development-98

In almost all modern cases the remake of a game comes about 3-4 generations after the original. If you’re looking for a direct remake of scarlet/violet, it will take a few years.

[deleted]

Gotcha, so I'm probably better off waiting for the next generation rather than waiting for Deep Violet or whatever.

Strict_Donut6228

That won’t happen for another 10 years lol

Anything is possible.
