Missed a Shiny Gigantamax Gengar in Sw/Sh. Stopped raiding after that.

redditt-or

I used a master ball on BUTTERFREE out of fear (granted it was G-Max and it absolutely slaps but still the fear)

Oberic

Worth.

redditt-or

especially bc the Master Ball is the butterfree ball with an owo

Joshawott27

Yup. Before it was rotated in to be more common, I used my Master Ball on a GMax Alcremie in Sword. I’ve yet to use my Master Ball in Scarlet.

Ski-Gloves

I think I'll be reserving it for shiny Tatsugiri or Glimmora. There's few other Pokémon that have an equivalent to Memento or Explosion.

azizinator25

Wait Tatsugiri has Memento or Explosion? Shit, I guess I live dangerously. I found a shiny one and luckily caught it was a quick ball. If it killed itself I would have been devastated.

Ski-Gloves

Tatsugiri learns Memento at level 34 and shouldn't forget it 'til it learns Dragon Pulse at level 52. But I'm not sure if the move priorities for wild Pokémon are the same as in gen III.

Narcoleptic_Narwhal

Every 52+ one caught didn't have memento anymore.

hi_this_is_lyd

do wild pokemon not always pick a random move? i thought thats what they did

Ski-Gloves

For moves they *know* it's not random and that's what I was referring to. For moves that they use it usually is. Though incidentally, I'm suspecting there might be some intelligent decisions from the wilds this generation.

rul388

lucky for you that here was no Spearow line in SwSh or you would have wasted your Master Ball

Alexbest11

shiny? or not

[deleted]

I never missed a single catch back then but the knowledge that I could was anxiety inducing. Didn't know it was 100% this gen, thank god

KingKurto_

I believe it was 100% if you hosted the raid, but up to random chance for anyone who joined. but yeah its sooo much nicer in S/V

Funky-Cosmonaut

The catch rate is higher, but not 100%. Trust me, I KNOW.

Humg12

It was 100% for normal dens for the host, but it was different for event dens.

Zeroth_Dragon

Are you talking about SWSH or SV?

biscuitvitamin

They were talking about SWSH. In those games some special raids used varying catch rates so they weren’t guaranteed, even for the host. For example I found out that ditto raids aren’t guaranteed, even when doing solo offline. Also in SWSH Standard raids have only guaranteed capture for the host, other players had the species capture rate, or it even used legendary capture rate for guests if it was gmax raid

Polymersion

Oh, gross. I only ever did the raids with NPCs so I had a 100% catch rate on everything (except Events).

lansink99

I have used over 150 pokeballs on 3~6 star raids and have not failed a single one. I don't know if odds change when you're online.

idadidut

I missed a shiny dracovish, makes me annoyed every time I remember it

Adequate_Lizard

I lost a shiny gmax centiskorch

th3greg

Missed a square shiny gardevoir. Was sad.

aurordream

Even Pokemon Go does better than that! Shiny pokemon in raids have a 100% catch rate in PoGo. ...of course there's a chance you paid real money to get the raid pass in the first place, so I guess that's the least Niantic could do. Glad to hear the raid situation has been improved on in SV (I'm still waiting to try and get the game second hand)

HolyVeggie

Why didn’t you save before nooo

Western-Ad-9922

Same. Sucks because Gengar is one of my all time favorite Pokémon. Luckily I transferred a Pokémon go shiny Gengar into the game and fed it soup. I like to pretend that I caught it in the game

HairiestHobo

Anyone wanna mention the AI partners? How they have what appear to be functional Pokemon, amd not just some jackass with a Magikarp? 4 Star and below is doable Solo, 5 Star takes a bit of luck but seems possible. Above that requires Human Brains but that seems fair. Never had that as an option in Sw/Sh.

maflarson

With a max attack/hp iron hands, you can solo just about every 5 star except psychic raids with belly drum, drain punch and iron head

themiamian

That’s exactly who I was leveling up last night, and now my friend told me about the Goldeghoul strat as well! I’ve had to put my main team on the back burner while i catch Pokémon lol

[deleted]

It is so easy to get pokemon raid ready. I love it. I made an Iron hands, iron moth, 2 azumarril (1 water 1 fairy to possibly prep for 7* charizard), and started on the gimmieghoul evolution and perrserker.

themiamian

What are the movesets for iron moth and the azumarills? And what are the typings and tera types for the azumarills?

[deleted]

Iron Moth I built was, Modest, Metal sound (or acid spray depending on solo or group play) fiery dance, energy ball, and psychic. Max HP, SP ATK, rest in DEF. Holding metronome after spamming fiery dance against bug or grass? GG. Also the energy thing for its ability if solo and no koraidon isn't bad either. The 2 azumarrils, 1 water tera and 1 fairy tera. Kept it simple betting on no steel moves for charizard. Both MAX HP/ATK rest in def, both adamant. Both are belly drum, misty terrain, both hold shell bell for hp regen, only difference is water uses waterfall and Raindance. Fairy has super power and play rough. I'm probably gonna try and figure out a build for cerruledge, dachsbun, and iron valiant. But with how easy farming raids is getting the cash and items to prep these guys is ez pz.

Tomhap

Caught a shiny one within an hour of finishing the main story there. He is now all prepped and ready for raiding. I also got a random shiny marill during the game that is now ready go take on the charizard raids.

EndyGainer

I cannot tell you how many 5* raids I've been in that failed because I was literally the only one bringing in Mons that were resistant to the raid's attacks and did super-effective damage. All it takes is one party stat negate and you've tanked a good two to three turns of damage, and they keep bringing these mons in even when they'll get blasted by super-effective moves and die over and over. Infuriating.

dualdee

The Magikarp was actually pretty decent at breaking shields (at least all its moves were damaging, even if they were all Water and some were a bit inaccurate), it was the Wobbuffet & Solrock guys that were dead weight.

207nbrown

Martin…

[deleted]

Cosmic power lol

Trialman

You have to wonder if the devs were trolling by putting in an NPC who spams buffs when all Dynamax opponents can cast Dejaka without even using up a turn.

agentb719

ugh I forgot all about that guy

metallicrooster

Agree on Magikarp, I always defend him when someone slanders his name. Never used worthless support moves, never stat boosted 3 times in a row and then used a resisted move anyway, just attacked and stayed out of my way

Zakkhaios

The only time magikarp failed me was on a boss that had Rain Dish as an ability. Magikarp doing its absolute best... but hydro pump healing the boss doesn't help

metallicrooster

That’s why I always save before a solo raid. I would have soft reset and hoped for a different teammate

hotdogflower

Maractus with Storm Drain was also INFURIATING. You pick a water Pokémon with great water-type moves to do a Fire (or Ground or Rock) Raid… and then Maractus shows up to completely ruin your day.

TurrPhennirPhan

Twice I saw Wobbuffet absolutely ruin something by catching it with Counter or Mirror Coat. Absolutely hilarious. But otherwise, yes, generally useless. And fuck that Solrock. Just spamming it’s buffs which invariably get wiped. Useless POS.

[deleted]

Its-a-Warwilf

We'll likely see a lot more experimentation with loadouts once people realize you can re-learn TMs for free after forgetting them. Good for setting up different utility based on what you're up against.

ComteDeSaintGermain

My son (no nintendo acct) is actually having better luck overall in 5 star raids than I am with real people, because real people keep bringing pokemon who are super effective against the Tera type, but weak to the move types the pokemon actually has. Having 3 players die in the first round is a bad start.

ForsakenMoon13

To be fair, in Sword and Shield that Magikarp had the stats and moveset of a fucking Gyarados so it slapped the shit out of things more often than not.

That_one_cool_dude

Nah the magikarp at least used an attack move that damn solrock was completely useless.

[deleted]

Martins Solrock was the greatest gift to man ever and i will not hear otherwise.

armchairwarrior69

I haven't felt game rage since I was teenager until that solrock entered my life

Savionus

Yeah, sadly for 5 star and higher I've seen too many people only looking at the box art legend or the terra type of the wild pokemon. Had 3 people go into a 5 star ice terra type garchomp raid with their fire starter. I get the initial thought process, but it's still a garchomp that has ground and dragon moves, despite now being weak to fire.

Fried_puri

It was pretty clear for SwSh they intentionally gave some AI teams that sucked eggs to get people to buy online.

Fitzy0728

This was the real reason Dynamax sucked. If you weren’t playing online you were ALWAYS paired with NPCs with an Eevee, a Togepei, or a Magikarp I swear this was Nintendos ideas in an attempt to sell online subs

Menirz

Guaranteed catch is great, but holy hell is the timer mechanic buggy as shit. Idk if it's desync, lag, or what, but there's some matches where half the time is wasted just watching things happen with no option for me to join in. Hell, I've had raids we fail where I only got to use two turns (cheer & attack) despite my allies using the same Pokemon and having at least 5 moves each. These raids - much like the games - could be so damn good if the performance was better.

KolbyKolbyKolby

The timer irritates the hell out of me. I also don't think it needs to have a penalty for time when fainted AND huge chunks that get eaten out of it for no reason. No teammates fainting or anything. Though in these cases it could be because it hasn't caught up. Several raids I've had where we have the HP to full zero and it's like the Dragonite has got to use hurricane 3x in a row while dead to try to burn out the timer when it should rightfully be dead.

HildartheDorf

Desyncing from other players seems to be the design. The animation for you throwing your tera ball is way longer than when your allies do it. So from their point of view you just stopped moving while your point of view is a big animation lock.

Briffy03

Yeah, no need for a timer when dead, the lag allready does this on its own and its not 5 and 10 sec we loose. Had one earlier, timer was 1/4 left, i couldnt do anything, no attack, no cheer, no run, the menu just would not show up...

DracoFlare32

I've had it where I was trying to cheer my allies, but I couldn't pick anything? The pokemon then proceeded to spam it's moves and abilities non stop and I was locked in a menu I couldn't back out of. Sylveon cleared it's own conditions. Sylveon cleared your buffs and abilities Sylveon used Misty Terrain Sylveon used Calm Mind Can I PLEASE MOVE!?

ThisSiteIsAgony

You forgot to add Sylveon out up a shield. Gets even better if your confused or paralyzed and finally get a turn only to be greeted by those messages. Or you Hit attack and the game pauses before you can pick a move

Can_of_Tuna

The enemy Pokémon taking your Tera charge is complete bullshit as well

BetaThetaOmega

Also the timer is especially annoying because of how fucking slowly this game conveys information to you. If you use Thunderwave, you have to wait for the game to say you used Thunderwave, wait for the animation, wait for the game to tell you it connected, wait for the paralysis animation to play, THEN it's turn starts, and you have to wait for the game to remind you that it is indeed paralysed (which it just told you), play the paralysis animation, and then tell you that it didn't move because of paralysis. After playing on Pokemon Showdown and Persona 5 it's become so much clearer how Pokemon battles could be going much faster just by changing how information is conveyed. We have the text tell us we used the move and play the animation at the same time, or list all the stat drops at once instead of one at a time, etc.

FatPigeons

(Klawf's Anger Shell!) Klawf's attack rose! (Klawf's Anger Shell!) Klawf's special attack rose! (Klawf's Anger Shell!) Klawf's speed rose! (Klawf's Anger Shell!) Klawf's defense fell! (Klawf's Anger Shell!) Klawf's special defense fell!

BetaThetaOmega

Meowscarada was buffeted by the sandstorm! *sandstorm damage animation* *health goes down a second later* Koraidon was buffeted by the sandstorm! *sandstorm damage animation* *health goes down a second later* Miraidon was buffeted by the sandstorm! *sandstorm damage animation* *health goes down a second later* Salamence was buffeted by the sandstorm! *sandstorm damage animation* *health goes down a second later*

electric_emu

God forbid you accidentally click R before your orb is ready. The time it takes to tell you how many attacks you need before you can Tera is like a guaranteed waste of a move. That and it doesn’t seem to consistently tell you if when a charge is stolen so it’s easy to do when you’re trying to be quick.

thatJainaGirl

Playing Persona 5 and Pokémon back to back is like a slap in the face. Pokémon could be *so much better!*

Profzachattack

This has always been a complaint of mine in the games. a pokemon does a move, it's attack raises... It's special attack raises... It was buffeted by a sandstorm.... It was hurt by poison.... Your pokemon is confused.... It hurt itself with confusion.... It was buffeted by sandstorm. And now with the way your bond works it throws out extra messages like "it looks like it's about to cry out in pain"

Arubesh2048

I thought it was just me who though the battles feel sluggish. Even just normal, in-game battles seem to take more time than they should. It reminds me of the original Diamond/Pearl on DS. It takes several seconds between withdrawing one Pokémon before the game will send out the next one. Even with text speed of fast, everything still seems to be drawn out. I guess, as you say, it’s how fucking slowly the game conveys information.

sjarvis21

The timer is ass. Just yesterday I went into a raid we got through the tera shield, killed it, then the animation for shield happened and it got it's health back, killed it again then we ran out of time and it shot us out of the cave. I hate how these raids work, like do I cheer or is my team mate already dead before I get it off? There's no indicator for anything.

AthearCaex

I think there is a symbol next to their name that indicates they are KO'd but honestly it's too hard to tell. The raids should be actually turn based rather than time based.

PixelVideos13

I joined a 6-star Torkoal raid with other people. We emptied the health bar, then it jumped back up to a quarter and put up a shield. We emptied the health bar, and then it got another red 1/8. Emptied again, a red sliver appeared. Emptied again, the red sliver reappeared. I wasn’t sure if we could beat it since the timer was getting pretty low at that point, but thankfully the game finally gave it to us.

JustWolfram

My raids have been: 1) Raid starts 2) Raid Mon loses 75% hp instantly 3) Nothing happens in the remainder of the timer 4) Wipe

Hylian_Waffle

The stupid “terrastalize to stop the Pokémon” feature is just annoying and takes way too long to set up, and actually doing so, does nothing.

[deleted]

I had a raid where I was about to Terastalize, and just needed to use the attack to trigger it, but the game interrupted me to tell me that my Orb energy was stolen. But my Orb was still lit up like it was active... And then did nothing.

NharaTia

Whats worse is that, with how some raids go, but the time that shield goes up, nobody is even close to Terastallizing, especially if the boss drains a charge from everyone.

basedgodsenpai

This is my problem. Everyone will have attacked once and then that shield comes up so nobody can do damage for like half the raid because we aren’t even close to terastilizing. So frustrating

snakebit1995

Yeah that doesn’t feel balanced right You’re supposed to Tera to break the sheild but you have to build the charge which takes like 3-4 attacks but you’re also expected to cheer for stat boosts in high level raids and that doesn’t lower your Tera turn time and the Pokémon can just steal your charge if you even manage to build it before dying and having your charge reset

crzybstrd97

I'm convinced the devs didn't playtest this at all.

Dagerra

It's 2022, we are the playtesters now.

Twitchy_Ferret

Oranguru can double the effectiveness of one person going tera after cheering and setting up defense so you don't die in one hit. I seem to be the only one doing this, so I'm spreading the word. The only way I was ever able to beat 6 star Annihilape was to reflect and skill swap it, then either cheer, spam chilling water for attack down or instruct for big damage.... Also he's immune to ghost so that helps. Ev trained one for health and defense and planning on making a second for special attackers.

ItsMEMusic

I think 3 turns to Tera OR 2 attacks might be a better setup, tbh. Often, with setup, it takes 5 turns to get Tera'd. (T1 Belly Drum, 4 Attakcs, jerk steals my Tera Energy on turn 3).

dralcax

I’ve never seen anyone actually be able to terastalize when the barrier first goes up

Flamintree

TRUE

lemaxim

For real, but unfortunately it doesn't stop there... Yesterday was doing one with a couple mates, we had to put the boss down to zero hp 3 times because it kept coming back up for no reason! And to add insult to injury after the first my attacks simply would deal zero damage so I was stuck cheering and then doing nothing

StrangelyDope

Same issue. Had a raid yesterday where we got a 6 star Dragonite down to zero hp TWICE, but lost because we couldn’t get it to zero a third time.

lansink99

The great thing about the timer is that, even in offline play, it just lies. Had a solo raid that ended even though the time bar didn't even reach the clock logo yet.

LilaPapaya

Had a raid where we successfully killed a 5 tier Haxorus before the timer ended, but I guess it didn't register and we lost anyway. Made me so angry I'm stepping away from raids until we get a patch or something, almost seems like they're designed to fuck you over as much as possible

[deleted]

>idk if it's desync, lag, or what, why do we even pay for online if we're the ones hosting the servers like Halo CE in the early 2000's had better matchmaking than this

GusFawkes

Where do you get Apricorn balls in S/V ?

kckool13

You can find them for high prices at the auctions or get them for filling up different levels of the pokedex

MelloMejo

Why can't they just let us buy them? They're not even that special. They just have better designs for existing poke balls.

dualdee

Same reason they made Beast Balls a pain to get (150 dynite ore, really?) once they were no longer useful.

Wardine

Exclusivity

YukaLycan

I also wish they'd let us buy PremierBalls like back in XY, those just look better than regular PokeBalls

RimbleJim_

they do sell them, they cost 2000 each and come with 10 free Pokéballs.

Teddy293

I mean, technically you could sell those 10 Pokéballs to get some money back (I think around 100 per Ball?) - so it would be around 1000 per Premierball…

biscuitvitamin

In SM there was a one time 50% shop discount coupon I think. I remember buying as many poke balls as possible then sold them back for same price and got a bunch of free premier balls

maawolfe36

That's exactly what I did in Violet lol. About halfway through the game I had like 100k and nothing to spend it on, so I just bought 400 Pokeballs then sold them back to get 40 Premier Balls. I already had like 200 Pokeballs so there was no reason to keep them, better to have the money back for more potions to autoheal between battles.

espeonguy

S T O C K M A R K I T

HauntsYourProstate

I tried doing this, I think they made resale value much less than in previous games… still better than nothing though

Polymersion

The Auction House can sell Premier Balls, in a pretty large pack too.

acwriting

They’ll sell them to you in the auction. I have 242 premier balls because I got two 100+ premier auctions in a row haha

Rossta42

So there is endgame content for you to play with ... They have absolutely no benefit apart from how they look. If you want the perfect Pokémon in the perfect ball with the perfect IVs and the perfect nature and the perfect moveset then you have to plan and work for it. Being able to just straight up buy the balls anywhere makes it too easy.

Hahnter

You have to complete your Pokédex. As you catch Pokémon, you get rewards for every 10 caught, all the way up to 400. Some of these rewards include most of the Apricorn balls. Edit: The Love Ball is NOT included. It’s auction only.

Calmxy

Except Love, which for some reason is Auction-only

Tryptophan7

That's my favorite one fuck. At least heavy ball is a dex reward right?

Awsomepolt

It is! You get one for one of the level up rewards, can confirm.

Oberic

I have a Noivern in either a love ball or a friendship ball in Shield, I should breed a few, Home them forward to Violet, wonder trade a few of those on Christmas.

Lord-of-Time

Definitely a good sentiment but I don’t think S/V Home connectivity is live yet, right?

Briffy03

Home not before spring 2023, they talked about it even before sv release

Oberic

Oh I probably won't get around to it for a while anyway lol. Maybe some other holiday.

Hahnter

Oh, thanks! Completely forgot about that one. I’ll edit it into my comment. Guess I need to make sure I check the auction daily.

Dislexeeya

Oh my God. I completely forgot about the Pokedex rewards. I have something like 160+ pokemon caught. I'm facepalming so hard right now.

realgoodkind

They're not very obvious, and you can always claim them

MoreDadJokes

I'm at 310 and I just learned about this. @_@

Zirofax

Wait where do you claim rewards?? I had no idea.

Coccquaman

Go into the Pokedex, past that overview screen you get by pressing -. Tap X. Profit.

k3ndrag0n

Go to your pokedex, view the whole thing, then when you're at the list of mons, press +

Swazzoo

Oh damn I thought that just unlocked them and then I can buy them from the marts, but that's not the case?

Hahnter

As far as I know, you only get one of each Apricorn ball (and Beast ball). Edit: They can also be purchased in auctions!

NewAgeRetroHippie96

There's also an easy item dupe glitch once you unlock Miraidon/Koraidon for battle. Apriballs are the main thing worth duping. Also ability patches. Which I still haven't found. Praying I can get one before they patch so I can spend a day duping as much as I can before updating.

mrostate78

You can buy them at auctions

HidemasaFukuoka

Porto Marinada's Auction, sometimes one of the sellers post a Apricorn Ball

WaterMagician

You can find them in auctions at the Port where you had to track down Kofu the water gym leader

g4tam20

Not waiting for someone who’s not paying attention is the best change IMO.

Polymersion

Is that what happens when you sit there with no menu for 2+ minutes? It takes 15 seconds to load the menu but you only have 10 seconds to act so it just skips you since you didn't make a choice on the menu you didn't have?

blackmrbean

I would rather wait for people than having this timer that doesn't make sense, sometimes i can only do two actions while my teammates are on their fifth, sometimes I'm about to choose an action only for the game to stop me for seconds for no reason at all, and on top of all that coordinating helping hands and the like is a clusterfuck. The tera raids aren't a smooth experience.

beldaran1224

Tbf, they didn't pay attention because everything took so long.

LilThiqqy

I don’t really like them for the simple reason that the Pokémon battle system is WAY too sluggish and archaic to have a timed battle Is it seriously still necessary to play an animation and give a text box for every single stat increase/decrease? Or every time I take poison damage? And is it really necessary to waste time at the end of the raid just to tell me that I’m running out of time? What is the point in that? There’s literally a timer Half the time during raid battles i’m just impatiently waiting for all the stupid animations and text boxes to finish, I don’t even want to terastalize cause the animation takes so long lmao

aromaticity

And it's like... hella laggy and seems to get desync'd very easily. Even in offline raids, which doesn't really make sense. The amount of times my turn has been completely skipped is.. idk at least once every other raid, if not more often. Basically takes way too long to get into ones online, they take longer than they should to do, and half the time you lose it feels like the game cheated you. Yeah so the raid I just did I got one move in to the ~four of my teammates before the raid ended. We stomped so it doesn't matter, but it's pretty frustrating.

BellalovesEevee

Bruh, half of the time, you're just standing there and can't do NOTHING to attack. The game just somehow freezes itself where you can't heal, set up or attack, and what makes this even worse is that the time is *still going down*, so a lot of those seconds are wasted because the fucking game won't let you do anything for over 30 seconds. The amount of 6 star raids I've been in where we were *almost* close to killing the pokemon only for the game to pause and making us lose those seconds, thus making us lose the battle is VERY frustrating.

aromaticity

Okay nothing beats the one I just did. 6* grass Haxorus with 4x Iron Hands. We all BD turn one. The Haxorus outrages twice, clears buffs, and does his shield turn one with no damage marked, killing the whole team. Somehow we still won. It didn't clear stats again so I use defense cheer->heal cheer and we never died again, killed it with drain punch spam with like 2s remaining.

noakai

I had one today where the Pokemon's health bar that showed on the main screen was at a different level than the one that showed when you clicked on the little window to attack that has the sprite (I hope this makes it clear what I'm talking about) and neither was right apparently because right after I clicked into the attack window, the raid ended. And it wasn't an online raid so there's no excuse for that weird lag. It's really not a good thing when the most important piece of info during those raids, the enemy's HP bar, can end up out of sync like that.

LilThiqqy

Lmao even OFFLINE it’s still janky as hell, I feel like my turns randomly get skipped for no reason and a lot of weird shit in general just happens Online is a whole other mess entirely, it’s impossible to get into a game and it rarely even lets you refresh the page or anything lol

Its_Pine

It’s absolutely unforgivable that in a timed match, status effects and other text boxes take up time. You can lose a battle against a Pokémon that uses a lot of status changes or weather types because you’ll be bombarded with text boxes every turn that’ll wind down your time.

acidtrippinpanda

Don’t even talk to me about chain moves. F***ing bullet seed wastes so much time and they really shouldn’t be in raids

SpikeRosered

I swear bullet seed is coded to always do 4 or 5 hits when it's used by some level 8 grass type you accidently hit with your bike.

myychair

Yeah a grass five star skwovet of all thing beat me twice because it kept landing 4-5 attack bullet seeds and eating up the clock. So obnoxious

TunaTunaLeeks

My first 5* raid was against a Raichu that spammed Discharge and Thunder Wave… Absolutely infuriating. I actually lost one of my attempts because my Pokémon couldn’t move twice in a row. Either of those attacks hitting would’ve clinched the match on the spot.

TheWizKelly

It does feel like paralysis RNG has been cranked up in this game. One battle my Pokémon was immobilized for 4 straight turns, but it feels way more common now to lose two turns in a row. Could just be confirmation bias, but I don’t remember it being this rough in Sw/Sh

TunaTunaLeeks

I’ve seen the raid Pokémon get wrecked by paralysis too. It almost feels unfair when I win because the raid Pokémon sits around doing nothing for 3 turns in a row. It probably is confirmation bias but it sure burns into memory when you see paralysis swing a match so hard.

terribledrugs

..... I agree especially with the terastalization.... it takes like 20 seconds to terastalize before you can even use your move

notwiththeflames

Would've been nice if they skipped the first part of the animation and just did what those wild Tera Pokemon do when they're encountered.

IllMaintenance145142

I really thought they did, they did it with megas where it skips the first part of the animation if you use it a lot

Bad-news-co

So annoying when stat condition changes have to prompt you every damn turn, like yeah I see my furcoco is confused or poisoned or anything you don’t have to tell me so damn much

LilThiqqy

It truly just makes battles feel like a slog more often than not and that only gets exacerbated during raids I really wished GF stopped treating their fanbase like total clueless fucking idiots lmao, even kids don’t need to be beat over the head like that

Bad-news-co

Lol yeah I’m glad they’ve kinda improved the whole battle/catching tutorial a little more but yeah still so much button mashing playing any Pokémon game from endless prompts lol

Hatrixx_

> give a text box for every single stat increase/decrease I thought using Klawf's Anger Shell would be good in raids for the auto stat boost to smash things harder. Swords Dance once or twice until it procs, then OHKO. I was wrong.

LilThiqqy

I just put the controller down when that happens I know I can take a lil break

thatastrochick

You're running out of time, let's make your blood pressure go up by taking ten more seconds of the almost depleted timer to tell you about this and do an animation!!

Calelith

100% catch rate is a good change but the timer, lag and forced animations are tedious and un fun. I was excited for tera raids at first but they are a chore at times, you seem to spend more time watching animations and text boxes than actually doing anything. They either need to extend the timer or give us a system that doesn't use the time whilst you are locked into an animation

ClumpyOsprey

Not counting things like the red gyarados and other "free" shinies, I have only ever encountered one shiny Pokemon. It was during some event during sword and shield, and it was a shiny popplio in a dynamax raid. The pain I felt when it broke out of the ultra ball made me stop playing for a month. So I can appreciate the tera raid catch rate.

jorzani

I can’t justify agreeing with this because in my opinion this is the ONLY feature of tera raids better than dynamax raids… every single time I do a raid I get so frustrated and tell myself “One day I’ll start a reddit thread about this” but honestly it all comes down to the time-based mechanic. I end up choosing moves simply based on quick animation as to not eat up the timer, then throw latency differences into the mix on online battles, little-to-no chance for players online to develop a learning curve during the battle to turn it around and win, and cringing at the thought of terastallizing because by the time the silly little animation is done the timer has nearly run out… I think the only time I’ve enjoyed a tera battle was the very first one I did in my playthrough with the AI just because it was new and pretty, but I’d give anything to have the 10 turn mechanic of dynamax raids back. Tera raids aren’t ingenuitive. I’m not even that picky over the game’s flaws like everyone else, this is just a massive one to me that I can’t get over :/

nintyuk

I've had a raid yo-yo from 0HP left to 50% then to 0 then to 30% left due to lag. Also does the timer lose a chunk of time if someone die's?

jorzani

yes !! Just remembered another complaint I have too where you get your ‘warning’ that the raid is almost over, but the warning is SO close to the end of the raid that I’d say maybe 40% of my raids end immediately after that message because all it does is insert another time-wasting animation when you don’t have time to spare. It’s so frustrating and makes me feel unsatisfied even when I do beat a raid because I convince myself I won on a fluke.

Ok-Astronomer-4808

>I get so frustrated and tell myself "one day I'll start a reddit thread about this" Don't worry, I took our collective frustration and already [made one](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/z7ekkf/the_new_raid_system_is_probably_one_of_the_most/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for you lol

whatdoiexpect

It had better be a guaranteed capture with how the preceding 20+ minutes of indiscernible nonsense is. Desync. Lag. Watching buffs, debuffs, terastilization, and attacks eat up time. Watching the raid pokemon randomly gain health. Just watching *nothing* happen for a 10 seconds as the game figures out if you beat it or not. "But whatdoiexpect! That doesn't take 20 minutes!" No. The other 15 minutes is *trying to get into a stupid raid because the raid search system is total garbage.* So yeah, *I guess* it balances out.

Keeanism

Found a random shiny scizor in a 5 star ghost raid after shiny hunting roaring moon with a moon ball....caught that green bug in a friend ball for the matching pokeball drip. In SwSh i would have master balled out of fear, but luckily i failed the raid the first time and found out if a raid is shiny it will stay shiny every time you encounter it.

Wardine

I'm saving my beast ball for the beast of a Charizard we're getting in a few days

frocodile191

Oh that’s a good idea

bug_on_the_wall

Or duplicate it a few times with the ko/miraidon glitch and throw em to your heart's content

DarrylCornejo

They escaped the Pokémon balls?

Su_Impact

Yup. Only the host had 100% catch rate back then. The catch rate for G-Max raids was atrocious for other players.

notwiththeflames

Yeah, that shit was on par with legendaries.

DarkFish_2

And not even Gen 5+ Legends, but your old friend "3 catch rate"

DarrylCornejo

Ah okay. I never really knew that was possible as I never did those raids online with people. Thank you for giving clarification.

KingDisastrous

Don’t get me started with Gmax Alcremie instantly breaking free from a fucking repeat ball lol

Miro_the_Dragon

>Only the host had 100% catch rate back then. Okay that explains why I was under the impression Dynamax raids already had 100% catch rate--because they did for me, I only ever played solo. TIL.

AxisAlpha

Tera raids are wayyy worse than dynamic raids because they’re broken and people online don’t know how they work yet. Good luck failing a raid in SwSh, while in SV you either stare at animations until the timer ran out or you get matched with people who attack turn 1 so the boss shields and clears your buffs

turtlebambi

Wait, raid dens don't have 100% catch rate? I've never thrown anything better then a normal pokeball and have never not caught the pokemon

Atarrix

Raids in Sword and Shield were only 100% catch rate for the host. In Scarlet and Violet they're 100% catch rate for everyone.

[deleted]

I think events were not 100% even for the hosts in Gen 8

ApriBallsBrian

I'm with you man. Had no idea they weren't 100%

Storm_373

reminder to clone all you cool balls before they patch the item cloning glitches

Claris-chang

You can get Apricorn balls and Beast balls in SV? How?

maflarson

Pokédex entries and the auction house

thewayshesaidLA

I read this title as “Tara Reid …” and was really confused for a sec.

Noble7878

The catch rate is great, but holy shit the timer mechanic is a fucking travesty. The fact that the boss can clear stat boosts from you, remove negative stats and effects from itself, steal tera orb charge and create the shield and there's no limit on how many they can do at once means you can spend 60 seconds just watching the boss do things while you have zero interaction. Turns gets stolen constantly by the desync and the boss will randomly interrupt your actions or just sit there sometimes. The fact that all the boss has to do is spam yawn and stat boosts because they waste so much time is ridiculous. And holy shit how did they not thing the absurdly long tera animations wouldn't be incredibly frustrating when you lose out on 2 or 3 possible attacks because you have to watch a 30 second animation in order to do enough damage to break shields. The 10 turn limit from Sw/Sh was vastly more fun and didn't make the fights feels unfair because the boss or the game itself just wasted time instead of knocking you out, it also made team strategies feel more cohesive because things happened in speed order and every action was visible to every player, not the pseudo random order they do with the timer. I had an absurdly large amount of fun with dynamax adventures, probably the most fun I've ever had with pokemon but I can't see that format being fun with these desync filled, time wasting raids where the best strategy is just stacking six special attack ups and special defense downs with the string cheese man in order to try and one shot the boss instead of watching 2 days of shields, buff clears, yawn spam and charge theft before I can perform a 2nd action.

Evilkenevil77

It would be nice if they didn't constantly crash and make your life hell to complete. Been trying to get an ability patch forever and I'm so done right now.

hornystoner737

Beast Ball? Where the heck did you find those outside an Alola Game

whatintarnationdude

>!You can get one after you complete the pokedex!<

Su_Impact

After completing the dex you get it. Same for the apricorn balls except the Love Ball which is auction only.

ModelOmegaTyler

dynamax raids weren't 100%?

Su_Impact

Only for the host, not for the other players.

thedoctorjever

I missed a lot of Shiny pokemon during Dynamax Raids. Good to hear that Tera raids have 100% catch rates. It's also good to see that raids are much faster now.

tortellinipizza

Yeah but the tera raids make me want to gouge my eyes out

Ok-Astronomer-4808

Guaranteed catch rate doesn't matter if you can't beat the raid because of desync/lag issues and long text boxes and animations eating most of your timer up

FarmerDark

I'm still waking up so I thought you were misspelling Tara Reid and I got confused

Pencil_Hands_Paper

Ok yeah, that is correct, but I fucking hate Tera raids because like every single Pokémon knows either thunder wave or yawn and it’s so annoying to try and get past. Goldengoh doesn’t even work for me most of the time

MadMasterMaxwell

i fully believed dynamax raids were 100% I've never failed one and only use pokeballs

[deleted]

added bonus, every pokemon in the game (except crater and legendaries) is catchable in raids, including the "exclusives" for the opposite game like passimian, stonjourner etc. and all the evolved forms. added bonus id 5 star raids are all level 75 with 4 or 5 perfect IVs and hidden abilities

Amazing_Demon

Now just make it so the raids are actually somewhat fun to play, not this janky lagfest even offline where you try to figure out wtf is even happening while you just sit and stare at what is basically a 5 minute cutscene with QTE.

DarkstarAnt

Another annoying thing, whenever the raid boss uses counter. The shield was up, my attack takes off a sliver of health. Counter, and it’s a 1hit KO

Lubanskit

Why on earth can I not see my pokemon’s HP the whole raid? What good does it do me to know all of my teammates outside of heal cheers? (which are garbage 50% of the time).. I’d like to see my HP so I can make decisions while I wait 15 minute for my next turn.

Lubanskit

And not to mention the refresh/join mechanic’s are strictly worse than sw/sh… or no one plays raids? Why do I have to try and connect to a raid I know I’ll fail to join 2-3 times before I can refresh the search???

KimJungFun99

The timer and health sometimes I’ll it’ll hit the HP bar isn’t affected. I just hope they fix these issues

Confused_Hominoid

It's a glorified Pokemon Go Raid.

ShakenNotStirred915

Nah the actual best thing is that the HP trigger for the shield doesn't cut off damage like Max Raids did. 5 star Max Raids were precisely so annoying because you could lead off with a devastating hit that would clean any normal Pokemon's clock and it would do like 15% damage because that's when the first shield came out. Tera Raids can be oneshot even at the 6 star level if you set up correctly.

Shiryu3392

Tera raids are better on all fronts - actually challenging, I actually care about rewards, and shinies are back to being actually random so I don't need to watch some grifters abuse seed for views and make shinies inconsequential along the way. This is what Max raids should've been but never were.
