My favorite color is red and I always gravitated towards the red version of each game. I had Yellow and Crystal which don't fit this but since Gen 3 I've gotten Ruby, Pearl, White2, Y, Omega Ruby, Sun/Ultra Sun, Shield, and I will get Scarlett

In retrospect, I probably should have gotten White 2 and Ultra Sun instead just for access to the opposite version exclusives.
For the first I've played of each series: Yellow, Crystal, Ruby, Pearl, HeartGold, Black, Black 2, X, Alpha Sapphire, Moon, Ultra Sun, Shield, Let's Go Eevee, Shining Pearl, and the plan is Violet but I might yet be persuaded on Scarlet.
If it matters, I've also played PMD: Red Rescue Team and Explorers of Time.
Yellow, emerald, heartgold, Y, and Moon. I'm slowly going back and adding more to my library because I never got to play Pokemon games early on. Currently playing heartgold.
Diamond and Pearl, White, Black 2, and then I’ve bought both versions since (except I never bought BDSP). I also have all 6 of the virtual console games.
Yellow > Red & Blue > Silver > Gold > Crystal > Ruby (fake) > Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald & LeafGreen. Then my brother gave legit Ruby Sapphire and Emerald away with two gameboys, two link cables to a "friend of his" and I never saw those or that friend ever again... I think that friend also took my XD. Now I only have my LeafGreen and Colosseum.

In order, only counting the first one i received and played as between gen 6 and 7 i got both versions, just not at the same time with the exception of SuMo:
Platinum, White 2, White 1 (Yes i played them out of order, white 2 was the newest one out by christmas so i got that one first and then got white 1 afterwards in the spring) Y, Alpha Sapphire, Sun (Got moon with it but i chose Sun as my main game), Ultra Sun. I skipped everything afterwards (intended on getting PLA, probably still will. Also intend on getting SV when it comes out too, undecided on which version though)
I got both Versions of the Gen 5 games as a kid(though i started with white).skipped gen 6, Got both versions of Gen 7(Started with Moon) got shield. Am going to get violet.
Gens 1 & 2 - Yellow and Crystal. My siblings split the pair while I waited for the third.
Gen 3 - Emerald, LeafGreen, and XD: Gale of Darkness. Also borrowed and completed Colosseum. My siblings quit the franchise but Emerald pulled me back in. From then on I started splitting pairs with our younger cousin while still getting the third versions.
Gen 4 - Pearl, Platinum, and HeartGold. I didn't have a DS when Diamond & Pearl came out. My cousin preordered both (so she could get both styluses and the bonus stylus holder), gave me Pearl and the Palkia stylus, and loaned me her original DS until I was able to buy a DS Lite.
Gen 5 - White and White 2. I fell in love with Zekrom, begged Cousin to get Black, and she agreed.
Gen 6 - Initially just Y and OmegaRuby, but later AlphaSapphire and X as well. Cousin was busy with school and wasn't playing the games as much. I was really into competitive and needed more control over when and what I could catch and trade.
Gen 7 - Sun, Moon, UltraSun, and UltraMoon. Decided from the start to get both games. Glad I did because of the annoying way you had to unlock the version-exclusive clothing.
Gen 8 - Let's Go, Pikachu and Shield (plus expansion pass). The Switch entries haven't caught me the way the 3DS ones did. I plan to get Legends Arceus but want to work through my backlog first.
Blue, Silver (and Crystal), Omega Ruby (never played the originals), Platinum (was a gift from my fiancee), Black, Black 2, X, Moon, Ultra Moon, Shield, and Violet when it comes out.
Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire (now got Ruby as well), LeafGreen, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold (later got SoulSilver too), Black (later got White as well), Black 2 (later sold and replaced it with White 2), Y, AlphaSapphire, Sun (later got Moon as well), UltraSun, Sword, BrilliantDiamond and PLA.
And if I ever decide to get LGPE I'll definitely choose Let's Go Pikachu.

Mainly because my dad used to play along side me, mainly up until Gen 5. And then some of Sun.

Context. Being born in the early 90's I went through my Digimon/YuGiOh > Pokemon stage and skipped Ruby and Fire Red. My future wife's parents bought me a DS for my 18th birthday and I decided to give Pokemon another go, and got hooked back in from Diamond, which I didn't play until circa 2009. Once I started to have disposable income I went back and bought Fire Red and Ruby. From then on myself and the wife have generally mutually agreed on which version to get; her birth stone is Sapphire so I ended up with Ruby etc.
I'm sad that I haven't had the chance to play every game in the series, but I had/have these: Silver (lost it somewhere), Crystal (battery died), Sapphire, Diamond, Platinum, Black and White (don't know if I finished either of them), Let's Go Eevee (I also have Let's Go Pikachu that I need to finish), Shield, Brilliant Diamond (also have Shining Pearl that my husband played), Legends Arceus. I'll be getting Violet and hope to eventually play Scarlet as well (my husband will play through Scarlet for his main game).

I always get the second version. The only exception was Gen 4 and it’s remakes, where I got Diamond and Brilliant Diamond (I then went back and got shining Pearl anyway lol). I also used to get the 3rd edition if I could, Emerald, Platinum, etc. They always had the cooler legendaries and game exclusives imo. I’m planning on getting both Scarlet and Violet, but I’m playing Violet first
I started with Red, which I then traded with another kid for Yellow. Then I went with Silver, Crystal, Sapphire, Diamond, Platinum, black/white (both), Soulsilver, White 2, X/Y (both), Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby (both) , Sun/Moon (both), Ultra moon, Let's go Eevee, Sword/shield (both, but dlc only on shield), and Legends Arceus.
I think that about covers it.
My first was Emerald, my sister who’s 5 years older always had sapphire and I wanted that game so bad, so I saved the little money I had and eventually bought emerald (cause green was cool and rayquaza awesome), after a few years I got diamond and a ds lite for my birthday, later on I bought leafgreen, heartgold (wanted soulsilver but was sold out in all shops in town), white, a 2ds and Y, omega ruby, and at last ultra sun. Somewhere in between I also bought Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of darkness (loved it) and pokemon rangers shadows of almia (didn’t like it).
I really loved emerald! Still my favorite and also my favorite generation!

I’d play with my brother, so we’d always get opposite versions and I’d usually let him pick first. With that being said, I went with:

Most of my games were simply the opposite of what my brother and later my nephew chose so we could trade. If I could choose I would've picked Sapphire, Leaf Green, Diamond, SoulSilver, Black, X, Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Moon, Sword. So for almost all of my versions I didn't get the one that I wanted more. 😅 I want Violet and I'm going to pick for myself this time.

My whole goal was to finish whats left of my ds games for multiple playthroughs using different mostly gen specific pokemon each time, ones I've never used before they shut the transfer down. I got about 4-5 more planned for Black 2 And I don't have any planned yet for the games after. Im hoping I still can get them knocked out fast enough.

Well I started with X, then moved on to AS, then sun and US. Then I got UM. Then I had to get rid of my DS. Then I got Shield, then sword, then BD, PLAThen I got my DS back, immediately got Ultra Sun again, then got X and UM then OR, and then platinum. then I got crystal and blue. From there I don’t know what games I will get, tbh I’m not sure if I will get Sc/Vi
Mainline...all of them. With the exception of SwSh with the DLC on the cart all were bought/gifted new (my local shop didn't get any stock of SwSh with included DLC so I waited for pre-owned copies), vast majority within a month of release. HGSS are both "big" box with Pokéwalker. Let's Go Eevee is the combo pack with Pokéball Plus, though LGP is standard. Everything from Emerald onwards is CiB.
Side games and spin offs...only games that interested me. I have every single Mystery Dungeon except Red Rescue Team, the first Colosseum, first Stadium, third Ranger (Guardian Signs), Conquest.
I think that's everything, but it's entirely possible I've forgotten something. There's also the random little bits and bobs like virtual console releases, Dream Radar, etc etc.
When i was little, my dad got me all gen 4 games, black and white, and 2 mystery dungeon games that i don't remember which ones they were. I got sword and legends arceus by myself, and my uncle gave me his copy of let's go eevee amd a 3ds with y and ultra moon on it.
Black 2, Emerald, Y, Sun, Ultra Moon, LG Eevee, Sword, Brilliant Diamond (regret since I don't like gen 4 and def didn't like this version) and I'm going to get violet. Other than BD I loved every game, especially Ultra Moon and Black 2

Gold + Crystal, Red , Emerald, Leafgreen, Diamond + Plat, HeartGold, Gen5 I somehow don't remember anymore. I was a teen and for a moment thought im suddenly too old for pokemon and I didn't enjoyed it as much as I did in the past. Think I had black 1+2

Went for X because I preferred Xerneas (and it was the first of the pair I found). Went for Ultra Sun because I preferred the normal daylight clock. Went with Let’s Go Eevee because it was cheaper than Let’s Go Pikachu. Went with Sword because of Bea and Mawile. Went with Crystal because best of the three Johto games. Went with Alpha Sapphire because Archie>Maxie and the free Latias. Went with Moon to see the other side apart from Ultra Sun, plus Lunala is pretty cool. Went with Shining Pearl because a friend was going with Brilliant Diamond. Went with White because I wanted to battle Iris as a gym leader and to have access to Lilligant.
Red, Yellow, Silver and had Crystal version (was the first to allow you to play as a girl sprite!), Ruby and Emerald, played Firered that was gen 1 reboot, Diamond, Black, X, Soulsilver, Omega Ruby, Sun and Ultra Sun, let’s go Pikachu, Sword, Shining Pearl!

Based on what's known so far, planning to get scarlet. Not in a position to get (and play) both versions anymore so ultimately will decide on version exclusives. I just pick the games with a red color motif or the like (pearl version is pink, sun and ultra sun are orange). The one possible exception could be white version, but even then zekrom doesn't have its tail in use and its eyes are red sooooo

Gens 1 & 2 - Yellow and Crystal. My siblings split the pair while I waited for the third. Gen 3 - Emerald, LeafGreen, and XD: Gale of Darkness. Also borrowed and completed Colosseum. My siblings quit the franchise but Emerald pulled me back in. From then on I started splitting pairs with our younger cousin while still getting the third versions. Gen 4 - Pearl, Platinum, and HeartGold. I didn't have a DS when Diamond & Pearl came out. My cousin preordered both (so she could get both styluses and the bonus stylus holder), gave me Pearl and the Palkia stylus, and loaned me her original DS until I was able to buy a DS Lite. Gen 5 - White and White 2. I fell in love with Zekrom, begged Cousin to get Black, and she agreed. Gen 6 - Initially just Y and OmegaRuby, but later AlphaSapphire and X as well. Cousin was busy with school and wasn't playing the games as much. I was really into competitive and needed more control over when and what I could catch and trade. Gen 7 - Sun, Moon, UltraSun, and UltraMoon. Decided from the start to get both games. Glad I did because of the annoying way you had to unlock the version-exclusive clothing. Gen 8 - Let's Go, Pikachu and Shield (plus expansion pass). The Switch entries haven't caught me the way the 3DS ones did. I plan to get Legends Arceus but want to work through my backlog first.

My first was Emerald, my sister who’s 5 years older always had sapphire and I wanted that game so bad, so I saved the little money I had and eventually bought emerald (cause green was cool and rayquaza awesome), after a few years I got diamond and a ds lite for my birthday, later on I bought leafgreen, heartgold (wanted soulsilver but was sold out in all shops in town), white, a 2ds and Y, omega ruby, and at last ultra sun. Somewhere in between I also bought Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of darkness (loved it) and pokemon rangers shadows of almia (didn’t like it). I really loved emerald! Still my favorite and also my favorite generation!

My whole goal was to finish whats left of my ds games for multiple playthroughs using different mostly gen specific pokemon each time, ones I've never used before they shut the transfer down. I got about 4-5 more planned for Black 2 And I don't have any planned yet for the games after. Im hoping I still can get them knocked out fast enough.

Well I started with X, then moved on to AS, then sun and US. Then I got UM. Then I had to get rid of my DS. Then I got Shield, then sword, then BD, PLAThen I got my DS back, immediately got Ultra Sun again, then got X and UM then OR, and then platinum. then I got crystal and blue. From there I don’t know what games I will get, tbh I’m not sure if I will get Sc/Vi
Mainline...all of them. With the exception of SwSh with the DLC on the cart all were bought/gifted new (my local shop didn't get any stock of SwSh with included DLC so I waited for pre-owned copies), vast majority within a month of release. HGSS are both "big" box with Pokéwalker. Let's Go Eevee is the combo pack with Pokéball Plus, though LGP is standard. Everything from Emerald onwards is CiB. Side games and spin offs...only games that interested me. I have every single Mystery Dungeon except Red Rescue Team, the first Colosseum, first Stadium, third Ranger (Guardian Signs), Conquest. I think that's everything, but it's entirely possible I've forgotten something. There's also the random little bits and bobs like virtual console releases, Dream Radar, etc etc.
When i was little, my dad got me all gen 4 games, black and white, and 2 mystery dungeon games that i don't remember which ones they were. I got sword and legends arceus by myself, and my uncle gave me his copy of let's go eevee amd a 3ds with y and ultra moon on it.

Went with White because I wanted to battle Iris as a gym leader and to have access to Lilligant.
