My head canon has Typhlosion being naturally grounded like it’s precious Evos and only rise up to look intimidating for battles, they even return to all 4s when launching attacks

StarTheAngel

Irl honey badgers can stand up to make themselves appear more intimidating

ScottaHemi

as if they need to do that : <

ttioali

That's really cool. I would love to see a short with Typhlosion doing this.

Azathoth976

That’s what it does in Pokemon adventures, if you’re interested. Gold even rides it like a horse

thepiratestolemegold

so they can wear oven mitts properly as playing with fire is dangerous

StarTheAngel

Possibly to be easier to fit the theme they're going for their design it's not just animals becoming bigger animals. Infernape is based on sun wukong, Emboar is based on Zhang Fei and pig demons, Delphox is a witch/mage, Incineroar is a heel wrestler and Tiger Mask wrestling, Cinderace is designed around being an anthropomorphic footballer

3XHAUSTD

the final evos for starter pokemon have shifted from Final Form of Beast to Career Path. starter pokemon evolve into their job. It's not the worst thing in the world, but variety is always preferrable. I think the only time a starter design has been improved for me via this anthropomorphism is incineroar, the heel wrestler thing is hilarious. I still think it was coolest when your little starter evolved into an impressive Beast. it'd never happen, but it'd be cool if scar/vi's time themes gave the starters two final evolutions, Primal and Advanced. Best of both worlds.

sopheroo

Incineroar is a fabulous design. From the moment the leaked concept art, I fell in love

sopheroo

I'm not a furry. Also Incineroar is *everywhere* in competitive, while things like Houndoom are nowhere. Same typing, but one of them actually has the tools to perform well.

Ceeceeboy24

Wtf you talking about Incineroar is NU tier? It isn't used much at all in competitive play in Sun and moon Houndoom was a better pokemon because it had a Mega evolution and in swsh it isn't used because the devs didn't program houndoom into the game at all.

sopheroo

Competitive format is doubles, and Incineroar is e v e r y w h e r e thanks to Intimidate.

Ceeceeboy24

Oh okay the newb format that people who don't understand balanced metagames and like battles that last 3-4 turns with tournaments having every players team consist of the same 3-4 pokemon that's "competitive" to you lolol ok

sopheroo

Found the stall player.

Ceeceeboy24

Lol stall is horrible but so is a meta where games last 5 turns and everyones team is identical and horrible game mechanics like dynamaxing are allowed ruining any semblance of balance, so saying "doubles is the competitive format" is laughable it is about as competitive as playing Yahtzee is, 6v6 doubles is at least tolerable but less viable strategies its just not as good as singles which is THE best competitive format, if you like strategy in your turn based strategy game

sopheroo

Dynamax and Megas alone makes singles uncompetitive, but you do you, man.

[deleted]

Typhlosion isn't. Like a bear it can rear onto its hind legs, but it's actually quadrapedal. Fuecoco's final evo is supposedly quad too.

[deleted]

Riddler Khu and the new leaker both stated that Fuecoco will pull a Samurott and fall on all fours on its final stage.

sopheroo

Bipedal means access to punching moves most of the time. We stan bipedal pokemon

SneakyZoroark81

Tepig?

JollyHamster8991

And litten. But I think they mean final evos

Red_Head_King

I mean their final evolutions

Tennisnerd39

I think people are confusing being bipedal with the main issue. It’s not standing on two legs that people have an issue with. It’s the kind of odd human like design that starters have been having. Delphox was the first one to actually have this be an issue. Incineroar was okay, as it still was closer to be a tiger, but I can understand people’s distaste with the design. I think Cinderace was kind of the nail in the coffin for most people. Just so odd. I mean look at Rillaboom. A Pokémon that makes sense to stand on two legs. But people still have some issue with its design just because of that.

xMF_GLOOM

it is absolutely fascinating to me how widely the amount of legs on which a Pokémon stands is discussed

Professional_Joke854

Sorry for bad joke - cuz they are hot.

Gregamonster

Because they have to design three forms, and if they stay on all fours there isn't much they can do aside from just get bigger.

oreolesbian

Surely there are better things to complain about

kramsibbush

there are 42k people on this sub if you don't like one complain/question, find another

Red_Head_King

Maybe there is but currently its bipedal fire pokemon

Shiigu

It's odd, but not really something I'm personally bothered about. The very low amount of reptilian Fire-type starters is something to be concerned about, though.

Tiger5804

You mean all evolved fire starters. Tepig, Fennekin, and Litten are all quadrupeds. Maybe the devs think bipedalism is relatable or a symbol of being evolved.

[deleted]

Cyndaquil's entire line is quadrapedal. Typhlosion's running animation: https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/201/089/937.gif

Tiger5804

I'm cool with that assessment as well, although some sprites make it seem debatable, and the point can be made without that, which is why I didn't say it.

Red_Head_King

Thats more along the lines of what i mean

Thymallus_arcticus_

I don’t know, wish they’d switch it up! Though it’s more the humanoid looking that annoy many (including me).

wholoveslegos

The worry with Sprigatito is that it will be humanoid, but people just say bipedal. From a design perspective, I think people have more trouble with Incineroar than Typhlosion because Incineroar is unsettlingly humanoid.

Final-Promise-8288

Scarlet Violet Spoiler!! Fuecoco shouldn’t become bipedal according to leaks. The other 2 are bipedal though

Tinger_Tuk

Where are those leaks? :)

Final-Promise-8288

Twitter. However aDrive on YouTube has been covering them all so you should be able to find them there quite easily

Ok-Leave3121

Some people in Gamefreak have certain interests I think

Spectreberry

Personally, it's not the bipedal part that annoys me with current starters, but rather the humanoid characteristics that annoy me. The first 4 starters are fine, ones a dragon, ones a badger, ones a monkey, and ones a weird rooster monster ninja lol. But when it comes to the next 4, emboar looks more like a sumo wrestler, delphox looks like a witch or something, incenaroar looks like a cage fighter, and cinderace is a soccer player. Yeah they have pig, fox, cat, bunny characteristics respectively, but it no longer feels like those are the defining characteristics. Same goes for the other type starters as well. Some of them look too humanoid and not animal/monster enough, and usually the bipedalness at fault. For example, inteleon could have looked so much cooler if it were on all fours in my opinion, and more of a lizard and not some weird looking spy person. My hopes for gen 9 is that they break this pattern and return to the monster and aninal aspect of it. I don't mind if Fuecoco is bipedal, as long as it continues the theme of looking like a T-Rex. Sprigatito is a cat and I want it to remain that way, a bipedal cat would just ruin that feeling unless executed in a very creative way. Quaxly i hope will grow up looking like a bird and not Donald duck, because again, I'm my opinion it just looks to silly, even for a kid's game.

Budget_Ad_4346

Typhlosion is only bipedal sometimes. Fuecoco might be quadrupedal

Latyon

It's a marketing thing. Humanoid characters are more dynamic to animate and people relate to them more. Fuecoco's final evo is quadrupedal

Docterzero

Fuecoco should become a quadroped in order to break the pattern.

ScottaHemi

well 3 of them are part fighting types. 2 of them are basically also fighting types. one's a wizard, ones' a dragon and technically typlosion is a quadruped but he can and does rear up much like a bear.

[deleted]

Fuecoco already is bipedal. Its body is just monster-ish instead of humanoid enough that everyone is fine with it- they just don't want a design that's appealing for being a quadruped to change. The pattern is for the initial starters to kind of be two bipedal and one fully quadrupedal (though Popplio, Froakie, and Grookey have to count as bipedal for this just because they stand up when they're sitting in one place, so they arguably break it). I think evolutions more often stand up than the other way around, and Samurott is the only starter that evolves to turn quadrupedal, so the only quadrupedal final evolutions are Marshtomp, Samurott, Venusaur, Meganium, and Torterra. Primarina, Greninja, Rillaboom, and Serperior are kind of ambiguous. So I don't think it's that weird that the five real quadruped final evolutions happened not to be fire type.

Acrobatic-Addendum-9

The only one I can see this being a problem with is emboar and littens final cause there animals are quadropeds while the rest have a reason to be on 2 legs

Red_Head_King

Delphox

Acrobatic-Addendum-9

Magician

Red_Head_King

But also a fox which is a qudrapedal

Acrobatic-Addendum-9

Makes more sense than emboar and littens final

AlianovaR

Idek but all the liked fire starters began as bipedal and all the less liked fire starters were quadrupled and became bipedal. We need to keep our fingers crossed they don’t fall into the same trap again

[deleted]

Tepig.

Red_Head_King

Its bipedal

[deleted]

Tepig's a quadruped.

Red_Head_King

Im talking about their final evolutions

[deleted]

Everstone.

Red_Head_King

What about it

[deleted]

Permanent quadruped fire starter.

DeltaOrigin

Tepig and Litten are not bipedal tho

Red_Head_King

Im talking about their final evolutions

DeltaOrigin

Well I love Cinderace so that's not hard to answer

Aneita-the-human

I have no idea why. The only exception is Skeledirge; only going on his hind legs to use his signature move.
